Even more crazy considering that the lead singer on this song Nancy Wilson is considered the significantly weaker singer and usually sings back up vocals to her sister Anne, who sings backup here. Goes to show what a vocal powerhouse Heart is, in addition to being Rock Royalty.
This was one of their best 80s tunes. The live version of this from the Live in Seattle DVD is really superb, as well. Ann slips into the background vocal role so smoothly and Nancy's voice is fantastic.
I was at the Seattle concert at the Paramount Theater.a small intimate venue...one of my top three concerts..The live version is better than the studio version...Nancy at her best
Any other band would KILL to have Nancy as the lead vocalist, which says so much about Ann’s talent. That being said, Nancy’s voice is gorgeous, what a talented pair of artists.
The little raspiness fits Nancy's voice, she fucking killed this song, she definitely doesnt have as much range as Ann but they harmonize well in all their songs, she definitely could hold her own and she is a killer on the guitar.
Anne is sining background vocals, just as Nancy does backgrounds for Anne. Flawless blending of voices. The Wilson sisters ROCK. Just think how incredible these ladies had to be to make it BIG in a band fronted by ladies in the 70s...
Nada One is a Nancy led song. She does have a softer tone, but the 2 voices blend so well. You can tell they're sisters. It's not just you - I have been crazy about Heart since their 1stbalbum. I was 15 then. Here I am 63 (not too much younger than Ann) & still obsessed with their music! Ann has always been my rock idol.
They are great. got to be the best female band of the 80's. A time when female bands were not widely accepted in rock. I grew up listening to them and always loved their music.
I made my 12yo daughter watch this with me. It was fun to introduce her to my favorite band when I was her age. Ann and Nancy were the first musicians I fell in love with when I started to become a music fan in my own right... My biggest regret is that I never saw them live.
Another great song with Nancy on lead vocals is "Stranded". It was a massive hit as well. And yes that was Ann on backing vocals. Edit: Spelling cause I got fat fingers.
This is actually the second cut of this video. When it first came out they didn't have all the shots of Ann singing lead vocals or the shots of Ann watching as Nancy comes down the steps with the entourage. She was literally only shown when she did the background vocals. They added all that extra footage of her a couple of months after the video came out because she was basically absent and it looked like a Nancy solo video.
It's because it was just Nancy singing except for chorus and the echoes. It really was Nancy's song. And Ann was jealous that their 1st #1 hit was sung by Nancy. She wrote about that their book.
The backing vocals are more like a mixture of Ann and Nancy together, probably with additional vocalists as well. The live version in Seattle is my favorite, and she hits some really high notes at the end. Most of the songs where Nancy sings lead are lighter and ballads, which are more suited for her voice. Some other great Nancy songs: Nada One Treat Me Well One Word There's The Girl Stranded I Want Your World to Turn Will You Be There in the Morning I Need the Rain Led to One Christmas Waits She also does some amazing versions in her live acoustic album of songs Ann originally sings. And of course their cover of Battle of Evermore and Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.
Omg there is NOTHING like 80s music and music videos, I'm literally in love. I'm so happy Nancy was able to front a couple few times, she's amazing. ❤️ have always loved this song
My absolute favorite Heart song. I’ve always been a fan of Nancy. She’s an exceptional vocalist, and she also rocks as a guitarist. Thanks for showcasing Nancy. ♥️✌🏼😎
You can also hear Nancy sing this live 16 years later "Heart - These Dreams (Live In Seattle)" and nail it. You can also hear Ann deliver a perfect back-up vocal. Difficult to decide which version I like best. When Nancy performed "Nada One" in 1978. it was clear she had something special to offer. "These Dreams" gave us Nancy fans vindication.
Just remembered another good song done by Nancy its called "There's The Girl"...Another cover of a Led Zeppelin song they both did is called "The Battle Of Evermore"..Its a great cover song done by both.....
I think she also sings lead on "Stranded." I think I have followed them from day one. Ann is still singing and is my same age. I have never been able to sing like her. She is mind-blowing. I love her Kennedy Center Honor tribute to Led Zeppelin. Nancy's guitar is exceptional. Great performance.
When this song was presented to Heart - after Stevie Nicks passed on it - Nancy immediately fought to sing the lead vocal. (She had a reputation of being like a 60's "flower child", or I believe the producer called her somewhat of a "space cadet"). She just connected with the lyrics. Regardless, she knew this was HER song - and Ann agreed.
Did you know this song was written for Stevie Nicks by Bernie Taupin and she didn’t feel like it sounded like her 🤷🏼♂️ so they gave it to heart! Who did an amazing job with it!
Even if you don't react to it, you should definitely watch the Live in Seattle version of this song. Nancy kills it - that version is better than the studio IMO.
Heart was the second concert I ever went to, they literally looked like angels, Ann's voice is incomparable, but it's actually Nancy who puts on the show, they are an unbeatable pair.
Nancy Wilson is a great vocalist as well. You can tell their voices apart because Ann's has more husk. I think that Nancy's natural register is higher than Ann's.
It's been a while since I've heard this. I got a chill! Now I've been a fan of Heart since the mid seventies and have seen them live back then. They didn't get taken seriously at first, so in eighties their management wanted them to put out softer stuff for the MTV crowd.
21 when this came out,Ann and Nancy both had killer voices even live.......and were both smokin ass hot in the 80's! Great to listen too and great to look at! Greatest decade of music was the 80's,hand down no debate.
In the 1980s, this was the main song at the Sea World indoor water fountain show called "The Sparklett's Water show" (brought you to by Sparklett's bottled water!) and I'll never forget it. After walking all day in the Florida or California heat at the amusement park, the show as 20 minutes of blairing air conditioning, dark, light show, and an amazing water fountain/light show. You watch it, feel refreshed, then back out to the Sea World park. My parents lived pretty frugally, but they saved up enough money to drive us kids for a 2 week vacation every year to the other side of the country: Disney parks, Sea World, Niagra, Statue of Liberty, Space Needle, St. Louis Arch, Empire State buidling, Sea World, Knots Berry Farm. It was great childhood and I saw how you can make little money, but save up, and still live a good life. Thanks mom and pop!
That part where the backup comes in with the chorus BEFORE she sings the line is so spooky and cool, a musical genius moment. Lots of chorus backup repeats the vocal line after the singer sings it, as a reinforcement of the lyric, but this foreshadows the line and makes it sound even more magical. It ties the music to the lyrics in a super strong melodic way. This song was the hugest hit because it was loved by teens, adults, boys and girls. Does it Rock? no.. Does it Roll? definitely. Does it sound new and fresh and beautiful, adventurous, innovative, warm and welcoming, and a little bit sexy? Oh Yeah.
Heard this on the radio all the time as a little kid in the 80's. Took me until my 30's to realize it was Heart! Hahahaha! Yeah, most music tastes have softened a LOT over 40 years.
Alone is my fav Heart song. However even though I did listen to heart way back then, this song I did not know. Strange! Very nice, so also my first time hearing this.
Nancy also does a great cover of an Elton John song called "Mona Lisa's and Made Hatters" . Its up here on youtube from there concert of 2002..Also from the same concert is another great song called "Dog and Butterfly" Thanks for all the great Heart tunes..Much Appreciated...Heart is so great...Keep going...
I've always liked Heart, but for me they've never matched "Crazy On You." Maybe cuz it's the first song I heard when the album came out. But this song is definitely magical. They both have fantastic voices. "Dog and Butterfly" is another 'magical' tune you should check out. Enjoyed yet another reaction, and thanks for this one. 😀
Sure they did. Barracuda, Heartless, Magic Man and numerous album cuts that weren't hits like Devil Delight, Rockin Heaven Down, Little Queen, Bad Animals, The Night, Black on Black, and the list could go on. I love Crazy on You and while everyone's tastes are unique, they have a ton of songs that rocked harder. If you mean they never matched it as far as the acoustic / electric blend I think you have a pretty good point, but even Barracuda has acoustic all through it if you listen closely. They kind of abandoned the acoustic/electric thing during the self-titled album and Bad Animals, but they got back to it pretty quickly on Brigade (The Night) and Desire Walks On (Back to Avalon) not to mention their latter day albums which were closer to their 70s sound.
With all that said, this song is one of my least favorite Heart tunes; to me it sounds like something you'd hear at a high school talent show. Too much synth, too mellow, and the video keeps showing Nancy jamming out on her guitar even though there is hardly any guitar in the song. The only guitar I hear at all is the bass.
You’re not overreacting it’s a great song. Heart is amazing. How about Heart doing Zeppelins Battle of Evermore? They both sing on that. It’s quite good. You will enjoy it. If you haven’t seen it I strongly recommend it ☮️
This is the song that made me fall in love with Heart when I was little. It’s such a beautiful song. As others have said, their live in Seattle performance is excellent and a must watch. It shows Nancy’s range more and showcases Ann’s background vocals much better. They’re incredible, these two 😍
The good thing about the 80's is you can throw a dart at a top 100 list from any year in that decade & it will probably sound amazing. I was born in 79 and grew up with 80's mixed w/ Stax & Motown. I couldn't have asked for a better musical upbringing.
Mid-80s massively big hair, shoulder pads, and pastels. I don't really miss that era (my hair was short, and I was wearing dull greens and the like - thank you Uncle Sam and USMC).
One of my all-time favorites! I saw an interview with Ann once. She had taken up the guitar, but let it go when she realized that Nancy was better and she preferred singing. Nancy preferred to play the guitar.
Not sure if you have seen and heard them cover STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, at The Kennedy Center Honors! To do Led Zeppelin in front of them is pretty ballsy, but they blew them away and brought Zeppelin to tears! Definately worth a look, its been viewed Millions of times!
I remember an interview that said that Nancy was indeed sick when they did these vocals but decided to keep them as they liked the rasp produced by her messed up throat.
I love this song. I saw the concert for this album - they are great live. I remember being so surprised when I first found out that Nancy sang this one.
The vocal rasp makes the song. I guessed she didn't really like doing it as in live performances she only does it for the first chorus then drops it. Amazing song
Lol, we all really liked it!! 😂 Yea, Ann is backing her. Another reactor commented on the familial harmonies between the two. Sisters, makes sense. "Dog & Butterfly" please.
ALWAYS loved this song!! Sure Nancy doesn't have the range nor power of her sis Ann, but she has a beautiful, melodic voice that compliments Ann's perfectly! And when they harmonize, wow! The Wilson sisters can do no wrong! Still say you need to check Sylvan Song/Dream Of The Archer from the album Little Queen to hear Ann's range AND hear Nancy's finger picking prowess! Check it my man!
This song, like Alone they acoustified live later on to make it more their own. Nancy's main guitar is acoustic but the producer in the 80's said acoustic guitar is dead. You should check out their performance of this on Alive in Seattle or the Road Home DVD's.
Absolutely love Heart. I think Ann Wilson is one of the top female vocalists of all time. Saw them live and this woman sounds just as good live! Nancy, she is an excellent performer! Love watching her rock out on her guitar. Always enjoy watching your videos and how you appreciate these bands! If you like Heart there is another band The Motels. I never see them being reviewed on UA-cam. Their more popular songs are Only the Lonely, Suddenly Last Summer, Take The L I’d like to know what you think!
The greatest irony of their first top at the 100 was that it wasnt Ann singing but Nancy...
I believe It’s their first billboard #1
@@JPVM it is indeed
I was at the Seattle concert at the Paramount Theater.a small intimate venue...one of my top three concerts..The live version is better than the studio version...Nancy at her best
Totally agree. I didn't even really like this song until I saw the Seattle live version.
I miss great music by talented musicians who could write , sing, and play instruments
Any other band would KILL to have Nancy as the lead vocalist, which says so much about Ann’s talent. That being said, Nancy’s voice is gorgeous, what a talented pair of artists.
The most kickass lady's band of ever!
The little raspiness fits Nancy's voice, she fucking killed this song, she definitely doesnt have as much range as Ann but they harmonize well in all their songs, she definitely could hold her own and she is a killer on the guitar.
Nancy’s range is ridiculous even with her having a cold and Ann slayed the background vocals! 🔥
Anne is sining background vocals, just as Nancy does backgrounds for Anne. Flawless blending of voices. The Wilson sisters ROCK. Just think how incredible these ladies had to be to make it BIG in a band fronted by ladies in the 70s...
HEART was a Seattle Band Before the Explosion.
When Grunge Hit hey all paid respect to them.
What a Band. Seattle Knows Music.
This is my favourite song of ALL TIME with NANCY.
Am I the only one that misses this big hair? The aroma of Aqua Net all thru the house?😂 ok... I miss the music too!😉
Ahh, yes, I definitely miss those days, aquanet sticky on every surface.... yes yes yes
Nada One is a Nancy led song. She does have a softer tone, but the 2 voices blend so well. You can tell they're sisters. It's not just you - I have been crazy about Heart since their 1stbalbum. Most of the songs where Nancy sings lead are lighter and ballads, which are more suited for her voice.
Some other great Nancy songs:
Nada One
Treat Me Well
One Word
There's The Girl
Stranded
I Want Your World to Turn
Will You Be There in the Morning
I Need the Rain
Led to One
Christmas Waits
She also does some amazing versions in her live acoustic album of songs Ann originally sings. And of course their cover of Battle of Evermore and Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.
Yes Don! "Will You Be There" was a big hit with Nancy on vocals......I forgot
Omg there is NOTHING like 80s music and music videos, I'm literally in love. I'm so happy Nancy was able to front a couple few times, she's amazing. ❤️ have always loved this song
That hair! Omg😅❤
Nancy is one of the most talented guitarists out there. 🙌
My absolute favorite Heart song. I’ve always been a fan of Nancy. She’s an exceptional vocalist, and she also rocks as a guitarist. Thanks for showcasing Nancy. ♥️✌🏼😎
Worked stage securely. Toledo speedway jam. 80s. What an amazing experience. Life long fan.
I always loved to watch Nancy play her guitar! She really did “manhandle” that thing! So cool!
"Nada One".....wow! I have not heard that in years....great song!!!!
The Seattle performance is so good!
"Nada One" is a classic Nancy vocal song. My favorite from her....
I was going to say exactly this. Great performance.
Just remembered another good song done by Nancy its called "There's The Girl"...Another cover of a Led Zeppelin song they both did is called "The Battle Of Evermore"..Its a great cover song done by both.....
oh yeah.....I think that one was a top 20.
And she was sick singing this one Nancy ❤
They were both so beautiful. Nancy, normally spent her time being one of the great guitarists in rock.
This one's my Heart favorite! Not surprised to learn it was offered to Stevie Nicks.
I think she also sings lead on "Stranded."
I think I have followed them from day one. Ann is still singing and is my same age. I have never been able to sing like her. She is mind-blowing. I love her Kennedy Center Honor tribute to Led Zeppelin. Nancy's guitar is exceptional. Great performance.

Love Love Love them!!!!
Giving this one to Nancy was a brilliant. Her voice has a more vulnerable fragility.
Coming behind a great vocalist like Ann I bet it wasn't easy. Lots of credit for that. Perfect Job!
Bernie Taupin also wrote this song. He's the long-time lyricist for Elton John.
I've got a huge amount of respect and admiration for her !
Ann just slays the background vocals on this one… no shade to Nancy, she can sing but them together is just SO good.
one of my favourite Heart songs along with 'Alone' and 'Will you be there in the morning'
Heart was the second concert I ever went to, they literally looked like angels, Ann's voice is incomparable, but it's actually Nancy who puts on the show, they are an unbeatable pair.
Siblings in song is something to behold! And songwriting!
Nancy Wilson is a great vocalist as well. You can tell their voices apart because Ann's has more husk. I think that Nancy's natural register is higher than Ann's.
You got my ❤️💜💜💜
music is such a magical thing.
It's been a while since I've heard this. I got a chill!
Now I've been a fan of Heart since the mid seventies and have seen them live back then.

Afraid I would debate. I think 75 to 85.
My wife and I were lucky enough to see them on this tour. It was a great show performance and loved their glam look for this period.
In the 1980s, this was the main song at the Sea World indoor water fountain show called "The Sparklett's Water show" (brought you to by Sparklett's bottled water!) and I'll never forget it. Nancy Wilson(dark hair), arguably the best female singer in rock. Profs to my man Denny C. on drums.
These woman were Dominating the Rock music era when it was only Male Rock bands ❤❤love also BONNIE TYLER has a Raspy voice
You’re not overreacting it’s a great song. Heart is amazing. How about Heart doing Zeppelins Battle of Evermore? They both sing on that. It’s quite good. You will enjoy it. If you haven’t seen it I strongly recommend it ☮️

I always look forward to this song in Heart's concert, great performance!
I'm glad that you enjoyed Heart and this song too -- I think this one of the crowd favorites!
Nancy is awesome to watch play guitar!! Very talented.
Mid-80s massively big hair, shoulder pads, and pastels. I don't really miss that era (my hair was short, and I was wearing dull greens and the like - thank you Uncle Sam and USMC).
It was one of my favorite songs of that album.
#1 was "What about love" and #2 either "These dreams" or "If looks could kill".
This! Outstanding. might be one of the descriptions you might use!
Dog and a butterfly is a very good and underrated song by Heart give it a listen
This is the music I grew up with. (Born 1967). So many great bands.
Wonderful harmonies with the Wilson sisters.
One of my favorite Heart songs hands down... Hope you can react to Toto's "Hold the line"... I'm sure you'll love it! 🙂
I actually miss me some 80s hair 😂❤
One of my all-time favorites! I saw an interview with Ann once. She had taken up the guitar, but let it go when she realized that Nancy was better and she preferred singing. Nancy preferred to play the guitar.
Forgot how good this was....amazing vocals.
Great reaction 😊
You have to watch "These Dreams" from Live in Seattle concert. If enough of us tell you, maybe you should.
This has always been my favorite Heart song.
I love this song. I saw the concert for this album - they are great live. I remember being so surprised when I first found out that Nancy sang this one.
Amazing!!!!!!! Song
The vocal rasp makes the song. I guessed she didn't really like doing it as in live performances she only does it for the first chorus then drops it. Amazing song
Both gorgeous
My favorite song sung by Nancy for Heart is “I Want Your World to Turn.” My favorite early solo song by Nancy is “All For Love.”
I know this will be hard to believe but back in the day we actually had a TV channel that played music videos 24/7.
Personally this was my favorite heart song but none of their songs are bad :-)
They're also phenomenal in person! Such a good show!
Thankyou. Its been a while 😊
My favorite song ever!!
the greatest female baND OF ALL TIME
Lol, we all really liked it!! 😂
Yea, Ann is backing her. Another reactor commented on the familial harmonies between the two. Sisters, makes sense.
"Dog & Butterfly" please.
A good version of this comes from their live in Seattle dvd here on youtube. 2012 I believe.
I strongly second sylvan song/Dream of the archer- their most mystical song!
I third Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer!
I'll bet a lot of us didn't know that Nancy could sing until this song came out.
This song, like Alone they acoustified live later on to make it more their own. Nancy's main guitar is acoustic but the producer in the 80's said acoustic guitar is dead. You should check out their performance of this on Alive in Seattle or the Road Home DVD's.
So cool
Live version seattle at the Paramount using a new camera system...in my top three concerts
Their more popular songs are Only the Lonely, Suddenly Last Summer, Take The L
I’d like to know what you think!
Yes, it is Ann singing the background vocals.
