- Fish remote lakes or want custom mapping of your favorite Honey Hole? No Problem with HELIX 9, 10 or 12 now features AutoChart LIVE that can build custom maps while you drive. Here is an example of an area that I created a custom map to get me more details. Check how simple and easy to build custom maps.
another great and helpful video thanks Doug!
thank you for the answer.
This is a great tool for lakes that they have no maps for..I have one by me that lake master or hot maps don't think its big enough to chart....
Hey Doug great videos. Got a question I bought a helix 9. And when I go the AC live tab and turn record on, the map starts developing and then what. Does it auto save on the card or do I need to go to the save current track before I turn mapping off? I didn't see a different save spot if I needed to.I made AC last year on my 788 and did the PC conversion thing. Those existing maps don't come up on the screen colour detailed like the new stuff I just recorded can I change that some how so the colour matches the depth like it does when your recording? Thanks
You need to adjust maximum range. since this is shallow lake I reduced the maximum depth to show more color variations. AutoChart LIVE is saved for 8 hours in the unit or until you insert the Zero Line Card (Optional Purchase) and it will transfer the data to it
Doug, Thanks for the great Tips & Tricks... New Helix 12 MEGA 2GN user and recently started using autochart live, as my local lake has been lowered 20+ feet for upcoming spring flood control. Feel like I can get real good imaging at this time.
When mapping I noticed my mapping doesn't look like yours... the area "revealed" as I drive is a narrow, rectangular area versus wider rounded area shown in your video. Is that a setting I can adjust or just the way the Mega works?
Any help or suggestions on how to best use ACL is appreciated.
Is Bottom Hardness Indication and Side Imaging Mosaic part of AutoChart Live the unit comes with or do I still need to buy AutoChart PRO to have those features?
How much area is covered like say going in straight path when using this feature??
If you adjust the “Water Level Offset” (in the Humminbird menu) after mapping an area will it adjust the contours to reflect the difference the same way LakeMaster maps do?
Should do that too
If I record areas on a lake and then return to record more areas on the same lake how do I calibrate the subsequent recordings so that the indicated depths are all the same if the water level changes?
I have not tried this but you might try using the water level offset feature. I think that will do it.
That's what I was wondering. It would seem you would have to have the off set, set correctly before you use auto chart live.
Doug, I am using auto chart along with the zero line card in my Helix 9 di. I can only see the mapping data when I'm near the spot where it was created. Is this normal? I would like to be able to study the maps while not on the water.
You can use the 4way cursor and move to that area with AC data and review it
+Doug Vahrenberg. I tried scrolling around the lake while at home. I can't see my maps. they only show up when I am at the mapped location on the water. Even if I'm on the water I can only see the area where I'm sitting. I can't scroll to other areas of the lake and see my maps.
+Mike Williams I figured it out. I needed the map position to be on auto instead of fixed
I have a Helix 5 but can only see customs maps from 1000ft nothing closer. My track is only 1/4 wide. You seems a lot wide. Any idea
I have not tried it on HELIX 5. I would call Humminbird 800-633-1468 they can assist you better
After 10 days on the water I could not get my Auto Chart Live to show contour lines. I was fishing at Flaming Gorge in Wyoming in 110 Feet of water. My Lake master chart would show the contour lines but they were totally inaccurate. Several times my downriggers got hung up on structure as it went from 100 feet to 40 feet with the charts showing no change in contour. Its very frustrating to get 2 downriggers hung up and the map not showing any change. After I got free of the structure, I tried using Auto Chart to map the area. Much to my dismay the Auto Chart did not show the contour lines so I could not use the cursor to follow the contour. The only option it gave me was to follow bottom hardness. I suppose Humminbird will want me to purchase something else to correct this problem. And I bet it will be another $150 bucks out the window !
Dear Doug!I tried to make a map like you showed but I couldn't with Helix 12 Chirp SI GPS.Does it work in The State not in Asia? Please let me have the solution make it work.,Plese.
I do not know anything non-domestic units but it should be able to create AutoChart LIVE data anywhere. I would talk to Humminbird Representative for your Country to be 100% sure
How different was the auto chart compared to your lakemaster chip?
+J M No mapping company can cover every single inch or foot of a lake. LakeMaster is very good but they have limits to every lake. AutoChart LIVE allows you to fine tune those special places for the ultimate mapping just for you
So if you have a helix 5, will it not do autochart or autochart live?
I think the HELIX 5 can save Sonar Recordings and if it does you can use the AutoChart PC Program from the SOnar Recordings. I haven't run the HELIX 5 but Humminbird would know for sure.
About how many acres do you think you can scan before the internal memory fills up?
It's 8 hours worth of data and that is going to depend on speed of boat when collecting data. Faster you run the more acres you can travel. If it was me I'd get the ZeroLine Card and then you don't have to worry about how much you can save.
Would it work with a smart strike card?
You need a Zero Line Card to save the data created by AutoChart LIVE
while in auto-chart mode, can you split the screen to DI on the left and auto-chart map on the right?
Map is always on the left side of the screen. But you can split
Doug after you make a map with auto chart live will your I pilot link follow the new contours you have produced .
Yes
Hey Doug I have just got 2 helix 9si kvd and I connected them with a network cable. I upgraded the transducers. The problem I'm having is the front graph will not let me use the transducer on the trolling motor only the one on the transom. Do you know how to fix that issue? Thanks Brian
+Brian Dimont I would try restoring defaults first thing. Could be a connection issue
i have helix 9 si.....no map card,,as out of box...when running autochart live my contours dissapear when i go below 1000 ft on map scale...makes everything so tiny,,is this normal ...it does not appear that way in your videos ...seems to cover more area around boat ..or looks like it doe because maybe your scale is less than 1000 ft on map ...
In the video it was being done at 50meter...I forgot to switch to feet as I had to install the software to produce this video when I shot it last year.
turn on "show raw data" in your autochart live settings
Do all models of Helix have this ability? I will be buying a Helix 7 soon but fish a lot of unmapped rivers so I would like to have the ability to use this. Do I need a bigger unit to do this is my question?
+Eagle Outdoors/ T2EAGLE82 HELIX, 9, HELIX 10 & HELIX 12 offers AutoChart LIVE. You could use AutoChart PC with HELIX 5 or 7 and create maps from Sonar Recordings but must import into computer for AutoChart PC Software to convert then export back to Zero Line Card
Doug, I have a HELIX 5, what do i need to purchase in order to autochart my lake? Where can i purchase it? i'm having a hard time finding it.
+trevor bryan You will need to use the AutoChart PC Program. Either AutoChart PC or AutoChart PRO Version.
so does units use a combination of down sonar and side sonar to build the contour maps in auto chart live? if so does the settings for side imaging such as auto or set feet say 50 ft affect how far it maps side to side? or does it not matter? cause i see that some pple seem to have wider charting paths vs my helix 5 si.
No. AutoChart LIVE data is created from the 2D sonar Data.
always great vids doug. Can I use my autochart pro card instead of a zero lines card ?
AutoChart Pro uses Zero Line Card for Mapping
Great videos!
I have the helix 9 with AutoChart live and Lake Master plus. I have used the autochart live on larger bodies of water that are included in the program/mapping. However, I'm looking to map a small private lake and plot the data for the folks that live there. Will i need to purchase the additional AutoChart Pro cd mapping software or is there any other way to export the data? Thanks in advance!
AutoChart or AutoChart PC Program would be needed
That's what I figured, but it's impossible to get a solid answer from the employees at the big box stores. Didn't want to spend another $200 if not needed.
Thanks again!
Doug, i tried autochart live on my helix 9" yesterday. But i did'nt get the nice wide mapping track as you got on this tutorial. Mine was allot narrower than the boat. Do you have any tips for that?
Sorry if i miss spelled something. I'm fron Sweden.
What zoom level were you at?
+Doug Vahrenberg Since i have my unit set to meters. The little thing to the left on the screen said 25meters (about 82feet)
Lower the zoom level the wider the track.
So the american Helix 10 version also has metric system, do you know if the GPS is geofenced or can it be used in europe? Going to California soon so maybe i can buy a unit there (half the price) and use it back in Sweden?
+GuteBysen I have no idea on that. I only deal with Domestic Products.
Cool
I just installed or Helix Mega Si unit and have a Navionics+ card left slot and AutoChart Live in right slot. All navigation charts end up river where we fish. I turned on AutoChart Live to record where the navigation charts end. Seemed to be a real narrow path and I had to go back and forth a lot to fill in all the gaps. Shouldn't I be able to record a wider path? I'm also using the two transducer setup with a Y cable. The recording I'm sure is being done by the 2D Transducer - XNT 9 20 T Single/Dual Beam, 20/60 Degree, 200/83 kHz. Any suggests on settings and getting a wider path. I have recorded maps with a Garmin unit and it covered a wide area.
There is no width adjustment you need to run crossing pattern to learn the depths so that you know the depth changes. ACL uses the 200kHz to create the contour lines.
Doug Vahrenberg That's what Humminbird support told me narrow beam 200 kHz
I will try the crossing. this is on a River so it would be hard to run straight lines in both directions. I also noticed as soon as I started recording the river outlines and my waypounts are way off.
Hey Doug.I have mapped an entire small body of water.when I go back to the lake I can see the map I have created but now sitting at my computer with autochart pro installed I cannot get the files created to be seen by the program.where are the files saved that I created with autochart live? when I search for the zero lines card within the program there are only 3 folders visible.I cannot add any of them to the program.thanks in advance! I love your videos!
I would call Humminbird Customer Service 800-633-1468 they can probably better answer that question
Thanks for the reply.I figured it out on my own.Humminbird customer service is an absolute joke
Does Autochart live only stay on the hard drive of the helix 9? (as an overlay) and is there a timer that reset after 8 hrs? Can you see the timer before it resets? Also more info on Autochart Pro (software) and how it works. I think the recorded data in the snap shot screen is for autochart pro, right? not the autochart live. can you clear this up for me.
+Bob Luyk It will ask you if you want to delete or save to ZeroLine Card. I recommend saving the data to ZLC. Anytime you insert ZLC it will force data to the ZLC
+Doug Vahrenberg would like to save before the helix erases all my data or resets.
+Bob Luyk You need to get Zero Line Card. Might look at Cost of AutoChart PC Program because it comes with the Zero Line Card and you can now import AutoChart LIVE data into AutoChart PC
Hi Doug. have the Helix 10 Gn2 mega. So my understanding is that I will need to connect a 83/20 khz transducer to record ACL.Is this correct?
If you have the MEGA Imaging transducer installed where it can read at the speed you want to map it has the 83/200 2D sonar crystals built in already.
Thanks for your reply Doug. Much appreciated.
Hey Doug. what is the difference between acl raw data and map data. Second of all , how do we adjust mapping colors? As a humminbird prostaff, I recommend your videos to many as you do such a great job
Not sure what you mean on that question? You adjust the max depth and it will adjust the color range
I've found that when I have map data selected, my contours disappear when zoomed in closer than 1000 ft. I'm assuming that there is a way to finalize the autochart live readings and then they would show up when zoomed in? just my experience though
How does this work on rivers?
works fine. Many Rivers are outlined on the Zero Line Card
how does what you make usually compare to the lakemaster chip?
More Details from custom maps. LakeMaster does an amazing job but they cannot cover every single inch or even foot when scanning or we would only have a few lakes and one lake per chip with that humongous amount of data per each lake. So AUtoChart allows you to make super high detail maps of those special places or secret spots and get the highest level of data.
Can i network my HB999 with a Helix 10? I currently own autochart pro so i guess i can export data from Helix to 999 via autochart pro pc software?
+GuteBysen I have not tried but could work since you can now export AutoChart LIVE and manage with AutoChart PC Program
Are you able to overlay the saved auto chart data with the navionics data
Yes. AutoChart Data is a separate layer over the Mapping Data.
Why won't they add autochart live to the core series units? 800-1100 series units?
+David Howard Because it requires the internal processing power to operate. The New HELIX Series was created with Internal Components capable of handling the new feature.
Doug, tried talking to humminbird customer service and they're no help. How many hours would you guess a zero lines card holds? Mine says full and i have only mapped probably 20 hours of mapping and a lot of it is driving over the same spots. Also, when its full and i get another one when i get autochart pro, i want to finish plotting a little lake I've been plotting. Most of my data is obviously on my first card, Am i going to have separate data on two different cards, or will my internal memory show I've plotted certain areas already? Or do you know what happens? Thanks!
Are you saving the sonar recordings to the ZeroLine Card? I would not do that. Only save processed data from AutoChart LIVE or Auto Chart PC. It is virtually impossible to fill map data on SD Card. Recording can and I would use a blank SD Card for the recording data and ZeroLines from Processed Data
Okay, I'm not sure if i understand completely. So when I'm plotting, use a blank SD card, go to ACL on my helix, chart and it'll automatically save to my card? And then once i convert my dad from SD card onto PC/pro, save that data to the Zero lines card and it'll essentially act as another lake master card, but of the lakes i plotted? Is there a way to delete all the stuff i have on my zero lines card then, or would it clear once i uploaded onto PC?
AutoChart LIVE must go to ZeroLine Card. If you use Auto Chart Pro (PC Program) then you need to save the sonar recording you are processing with the PC use blank SD card then import into AC Pro PC Program and export that data back to ZeroLine Card.
Also what is going on with your temp, I have the same thing on helix 9?
+Bob Luyk That is not a temperature reading, but a compass heading. Notice how it resets at 360 degrees.
+Bob Luyk That is COG Course Over Ground since I am in Chart View
Very helpful video, where can I buy a zero line card?
From your Humminbird Dealer. Or one comes standard with AutoChart PC Program too
Thanks
Great video. How do you save on the Zero Line Card? Can you have multiple lake on ZeroLine Card?
Hey Folks! Just discovered that submerged trees and under-surface obstacles DEPTHS are NOT recorded in a separate "layer" or within bottom contours, so if like me you are trolling, or casting into waters where submerged trees exist, your out-of-luck with AutoChart; a BIG disappointment for me as I fish lakes in the Sierrra's where 100 foot+ submerged standing-pine trees are in the middle of some lakes, and while you may be in 140 feet plus waters, you will get "hung-up" on trees that will NOT show on the chart! AutoChart Vegetation also ONLY shows a color and does NOT associate DEPTH. In talking with Customer Service about this somewhat major issue for me, they reminded me that AutoChart is for "recreational consumers!" Are you serious? They obviously have not discussed this with Marketing where I see the "PRO" label used almost excessively.
Is it only on helix 10 or bigger?
+Richard Rommark HELIX 9, HELIX 10 & HELIX 12 offers AutoChart LIVE
+Doug Vahrenberg thanks Doug
