Another thing that I am grateful to this game for: Introducing Kenny James, by far the best voice of Bowser yet. Oh God, his deep growling tone, that echo, how he applies it to roaring, laughing and even humorous reactions to his faltering situation, you can tell that he made this character sound powerful. And I love that it stuck for later titles like Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Super Mario 3D World (I hope you have that up for vote eventually). It's a massive step up from synthetic roaring sound effects and the grunting Cookie Monster voice in every game before.
happy 15th anniversary super mario galaxy!!! :3 a great showing of mario on the wii and my favorite mario game(along with super mario world,3d world & odyssey) that i love so much with it's music(the orchestrated pieces definitely that add to the bright worlds in space you explore .),gameplay(though i wish the rolling ball was cut and wish the red star was brought back/made into the cape feather it took advantage of the wii/used gravity in a non forced way the star spin and cappy are my favorite features and i just found out about the homing ground pound.), cinematic presentation(it has such a movie like feel similar to sonic unleashed to me that i'm glad odyssey brought back and hope the next mario game has that.),post game(way better than pre galaxy and 2 especially with how much you collect as i loved playing as luigi again along with finding his interactions with rosalina cute in the ending picture and getting to enjoy the star festival at the end just wish peach was there outside the photo/we saw more of toadette considering her cameo in the intro.) and especially rosalina(along with luigi/daisy,princess peach and wario/warioware's cast my favorite mario character for her sweet motherly personality, her wonderful backstory which mario needs to do more of and being my favorite nintendo god along with palutena/viridi.:3)

i would, but skyward sword looks like a GC game honestly. after replaying it, i could tell it was nowhere near HD. it did have very pretty colors though, and it still did look nice
+ahbeef Yeah, brawl looked pretty damn good for being made on a system that was really only about 1.5x as powerful as the GC, but it shows how much good programming skills can do to make up for the hardware.
+ahbeef Play it on Dolphin. You can run GameCube and Wii games at extremely high resolutions with great frame rates (as long as you have a good computer.) If your computer isn't amazing, just run it in 1080p60fps.
This guy is my favorite reviewer of all time. Not because I want to know how good the games are, but because he makes them so awesome. I don't know how it's possible to make a review this good without trying. All he does is talk, but somehow it's amazing.
This is a fantastic game! I remember playing it a lot when I was younger, and playing it all summer, and beating it 100%, in anticipation of getting Super Mario Galaxy too! Ah memories!
The Galaxy series in my opinion is the best idea that Nintendo has ever made for the plumber and those two games will now and forever mark as my favorite Mario, Nintendo, and overall game as long as I live.
Story time! In my younger days (about 5 or 6) I was hooked on my dad's NES. He was given one by a relative/friend (can't remember which) but he wasn't really into gaming so he let me and my brother use it. There wasn't a big selection of games; we had... I'm just going to grab the cartridges... OK, let's see... Super Mario Bros., Bubble Bobble, Duck Hunt, Ice Climber, Top Gun (which I wasn't interested in), a broken copy of Devil World (which I also never got around to play, though I don't remember if it was broken back then), Hogan's Alley and Slalom. This was in the early 2000s. Let that sink in. (My current age might help in realising: 17) Anyway, I grew up and moved to random PC games until Christmas -07 when we got a Wii with Super Mario Galaxy. So I jumped from the first Super Mario Bros. to this. Let's compare the two. A 2D sidescrolling platformer from the third generation of consoles to a 3D platformer from the 7th generation. No other Mario games between the NES classic and Galaxy. The only other mainstream platformer I played was Sonic Heroes for PC (and MY GOD the slowdown was DREADFUL thanks to my dad's toaster PC, yet I still managed to complete the game... like a year after my last session). tl;dr: Galaxy is close to my heart for truly introducing me to Nintendo. Though we traded it in (it was either 1 or 2) among with almost our entire Wii library for an Xbox 360 (the disc reader broke), I consider Galaxy and Twilight Princess the games that made me the gamer I am today. P.S. Buoy Base Galaxy all the way.
@@jaretco6423 Dude, I got 2 back in the day, but never one. Lmao Until I got the 3D Collection. After beating the first galaxy, I’d say 2 is basically just an extension of this game, with bells & whistles. Lol Super Mario More
AGREED! Best Mario games! They really are the perfect blend between the two extremes, those extremes being Sunshine (Story, Hub World) and 3D Land/World (Linear, basic A to B)
Probably my favorite mario game, and one of my favorites of all time. Best soundtrack, well-designed stages, a better story than the old cliche, and great controls.
SMG is in my top 5 games of all time. Top 5 best soundtracks in a game too, ugh SO GOOD SMG2 is pretty much a DLC expansion, albeit a really great one, but Nintendo DID seem like they were low on ideas with it, still an excellent title regardless. Great review as always by the way! I agree that playing with Luigi is awesome and was a great little reward at the end of the game! Can't wait to see you take on Galaxy 2!
Mario Galaxy. This is my favorite Mario platformer (tied with the sequel). The level design is insanely creative, the hub world is fun to travel through, I like that Rosalina is a character with an actual backstory (favorite Mario character tied with Luigi btw), the soundtrack is AMAZING, the game still holds up graphically pretty well, the antigravity isn't jarring, the spin jump is great for both enemies and platforming, the motion controls aren't intrusive (for the most part), an no 100 coins or blue coins (though some purple coin mission can be annoying). The powerups are alright. I enjoyed them for what they were. Great review, Johnny. You summed up both the greatness of this game and its flaws fantastically.
Super Mario Galaxy was one of the first Mario games I've ever played, and my god, I loved it. Everything about the game (not withstanding some of those comets) was amazing, and the soundtrack is orgasmic. The linear approach, while disappointing to me as I prefer large scope levels, I feel helps those who don't like massive stages. I haven't played this game for a long time, and I should play it again someday. :)
My first game was the original on the NES and Sunshine. Say what you will about sunshine, but I find the game very easy in this day and age. I even include the lilypad stage and the plinko machine(use the hover in the plinko machine, not the rocket).
What's with all the Galaxy 2 hate? I love both of these games to death, and I originally loved the first more than the second, but over the years the sequel has won me over and has become one of my favorite games of all time. It's the best looking Wii game I've ever played. The soundtrack is even better than the amazingness of Galaxy 1 due to its mix of fantastic remixes (like the best version of Koopa's Road), tracks from Galaxy 1 (like Gusty Garden), and amazing original tracks like Yoshi Star Galaxy and Bowser's Galaxy Generator. The levels are greater in number and more varied in design than any previous collectathon Mario and integrate the most creative (if admittedly situational) powerups in Mario history to create some of the best stages in any platforming game PERIOD. There's more bosses, more stage hazards, more set pieces, and it ultimately creates what is easily the biggest and most ambitious Mario title to date (3D World was still pretty good, though). There is the occasional recycling of elements from the first, like Shiverburn Galaxy, but when this does happen, it feels like a loving tribute rather than a lazy rehash. I can't help but feel that Galaxy 2 haters are allowing the "Wow Factor" of the first game, which won't even matter in 20 years, to cloud their judgment when comparing these two masterpieces side to side. That's like calling SMB1 better than the considerably better designed SMB3 just because SMB1 was "more impressive for its time." I was there when both of these games were released folks, and while the Wow Factor of the first did originally lead me to prefer it, when I got past that and actually analyzed what made both of these titles so great, I realized that the second game has the advantage. While you don't have to like it more than the first, it's a bit hateful to refer to Galaxy 2 as an overrated piece of trash just because the first game seemed "more impressive for it's time."
its mostly the lack of story in galaxy two that makes it worse for me. I honestly couldn't care less about the soundtrack or level design. Also yes it is a rehash it's pretty much the exact same concept as the first game.
So games like Super Mario Bros. 3, World, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Crash 2, Crash 3 etc etc. are also rehashes, according to you? I mean, they pretty much have the exact same concept as the first game in each franchise. That argument is so dumb...
SomecallmeJohnny true, but I never did try to 100% sunshine (knowing I got a postcard for getting to and beating poison river made it completely not worthwhile) so I could walk away from them
So Intriguing watching this now, been following this channel for so long I remember when all your old Mario and batman videos was new(this was before I was into other games so just rewatched those occasionally because I liked your review style 😂)
This is probably the best Mario game in recent years. 3D World was good but it just didn't feel like a big adventure like Sunshine or Galaxy. Anyway, nice video Johnny! I've definitely been waiting for this one.
VonFirflirch I just want something different. Mario used to have so many different areas for each game. Like Sunshine was on a random ass island and Galaxy was in space. I want something that actually feels like an adventure. Not a game that just feels like it's playing safe.
VonFirflirch Yeah. But I want something completely different. Not something with old designs. You know what I'm saying? Like maybe put Mario in a full 3D environment with a bunch of originality. I know 3D world is 3D but I mean where you can take Mario wherever you choose. Not like in 3D World where the exploring in the hub worlds is kind of bland. It's hard to explain and I did a piss poor job doing it. Basically I want another game that feels like a big adventure that I can explore to my hearts content.
3D world is a 2d mario game put into 3d levels, in that you go through a linear level to get to the flagpole. I find that the 3d games are more vast and epic and just have a different feeling to them. Both are fantastic, but noticeably different
Rosalina just nailed this game for me. Just her presence exerts this supernatural feeling that made the whole adventure feel even more mysterious. I can't accurately describe it, but without Rosalina's presence this game would not be /nearly/ as good. How do I know this? Because even though I will concede Super Mario Galaxy 2 had some great levels, the atmosphere of that game was nowhere near as good as Galaxy 1. I honestly did not have as much fun because of that.
Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite Mario game of all time its so amazing and my favorite game of all time period if you own a Wii or Wii u get this game
I've always liked this game, it was one of my first games i got for my Wii. Everything was perfect, the gameplay, the visuals, the soundtrack, just perfect. I also loved Rosalina and her back-story, and her design, which is why she is my favorite Mario character (next to Luigi), this also explains why i have Rosalina as my channel picture too. Anyhow, i loved this review and i'm looking forward for Galaxy 2!
happy 13th anniversary super mario galaxy!!! :3 a great showing of mario on the wii and my favorite mario game(along with 3d world & odyssey) that i love so much with it's music(the orchestrated pieces definitely that add to the bright worlds in space you explore .),gameplay(though i wish the rolling ball was cut and wish the red star was brought back/made into the cape feather it took advantage of the wii/used gravity in a non forced way the star spin and cappy are my favorite features and i just found out about the homing ground pound.),cinematic presentation(it has such a movie like feel similar to sonic unleashed to me that i'm glad odyssey brought back and hope the next mario game has that.),post game(way better than pre galaxy and 2 especially with how much you collect as i loved playing as luigi again along with finding his interactions with rosalina cute in the ending picture and getting to enjoy the star festival at the end.) and especially rosalina(along with luigi/daisy,princess peach and wario/warioware's cast my favorite mario character for her sweet motherly personality, her wonderful backstory which mario needs to do more of and being my favorite nintendo god along with palutena/viridi.:3)
12:32 BTW, about that postcard, you get 2 of these after you collect 121 stars with both Mario & Luigi. That 121st star is located in Grand Finale Galaxy, which is just the intro stage all over again. The full 100% Mario Galaxy experience is not worth it, except for playing the game again as Luigi, but not the 121st star.
I hate these comments down below! Why do people have to fight over which Mario Galaxy is better? Can't we just appreciate these games? The first Super Mario Galaxy may be my favourite Mario game of all time and one of my favourite games of all time, but please, PLEASE be nice to eachother. Do it for Iwata.
That's because Galaxy 1 is better. No no I'm joking. I do think Galaxy 1 is better but I like them both. TBH I like Galaxy 2 better until the green stars came in to play.
I feel so weird for this being my first 3D Mario game. I get so much nostalgia for this game (and not so much Galaxy 2, even though I'm I played that a lot as well). I even find it hard to believe Sunshine is a main title in the series (because I know next to nothing of it). And whenever I see Super Mario 64, I don't get nostalgic for it...I get nostalgic for Super Mario 63 (fan game by Ronouw) of all things, because I played it a lot when I was young. It's odd having a different experience with the 3D Mario games than most other people.
Rosalina is my favorite mario character,I remember when I was a little bit younger and first got the game I was amazed at how beautiful she was when I first saw her,I also loved the story book part of the game that told you about her history.
+Matthew Phillips From what I've heard, he really only loves RE4 and 5. He's not as much of a fan of the classic series, but he does enjoy 2 from what I remember. He should still do it nonetheless.
i think I've mastered the art of the rolling ball after i played the "Rolling Gizmo Galaxy" that galaxy was so annoying but i got through it and also the "Bubble Blast Galaxy" especially at the end when there is all these bullet bills, it was so intense
This game is absolute perfection in my eyes. By far my favorite Mario game, and game in general. The music, gameplay, variation, and cutscenes make this game my favorite ever. Nintendo, I know you guys CAN top this, but it will be hard. Very hard.
Ah I remember this game, my first 3D Mario, it's great to see that it has remained great since I first played it 10 years ago! As opposed to sonic '06, an no I'm not joking I owned that shit when I didn't understand good games
Now that you mention it, I can't tell which is my favorite 3D Mario game. I guess Galaxy 2 is my least favorite (not counting 3D Land and 64 DS) since it's more powerup-focused than this and is less memorable in some way. But Sunshine's openness, Galaxy's level variety, and 64's combination of the two marred by clunky controls puts them head-to-head. Super Mario 3D World may be my favorite, since it has the fast running, dense levels, a plethora of levels, and measures of collecting and speedrunning.
By the way, if you do know what is funny and you are simply not laughing because you are more "mature" then pointing that out by saying "I definitely don't get it" just makes you seem immature by comparison... Erection.
SensibleGaming Oh that joke! Yeah the time stamp you put up skips that joke entirely, so I thought you were talking about something else. 10:07 is what you should have put down.
Another thing that I am grateful to this game for: Introducing Kenny James, by far the best voice of Bowser yet. And I love that it stuck for later titles like Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Super Mario 3D World (I hope you have that up for vote eventually). It's a massive step up from synthetic roaring sound effects and the grunting Cookie Monster voice in every game before.

a great showing of mario on the wii and my favorite mario game(along with super mario world,3d world & odyssey) that i love so much with it's music(the orchestrated pieces definitely that add to the bright worlds in space you explore .),gameplay(though i wish the rolling ball was cut and wish the red star was brought back/made into the cape feather it took advantage of the wii/used gravity in a non forced way the star spin and cappy are my favorite features and i just found out about the homing ground pound.),
cinematic presentation(it has such a movie like feel similar to sonic unleashed to me that i'm glad odyssey brought back and hope the next mario game has that.),post game(way better than pre galaxy and 2 especially with how much you collect as i loved playing as luigi again along with finding his interactions with rosalina cute in the ending picture and getting to enjoy the star festival at the end just wish peach was there outside the photo/we saw more of toadette considering her cameo in the intro.) and especially rosalina(along with luigi/daisy,princess peach and wario/warioware's cast my favorite mario character for her sweet motherly personality, her wonderful backstory which mario needs to do more of and being my favorite nintendo god along with palutena/viridi.:3)

I remember getting that coin save in Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario 3D World may be my favorite 3D Mario game but Galaxy is a very close second. This game just rocks on so many levels.
I was actually surprised to hear that the Wii wasn't in HD with games like this, Brawl, Twilight Princess, and Kirby's Return to Dreamland.
i would, but skyward sword looks like a GC game honestly. after replaying it, i could tell it was nowhere near HD. it did have very pretty colors though, and it still did look nice
yeah it looks really nice and stylized, but it doesn't try to hide the fact that it's not HD, that's all im saying. i do love skyward sword though
there are parts of the game where you can practically count the pixels. that's all im saying

VonFirflirch More open world. But still have stages. Like Sunshine or 64.
3D world is a 2d mario game put into 3d levels, in that you go through a linear level to get to the flagpole. I find that the 3d games are more vast and epic and just have a different feeling to them. Both are fantastic, but noticeably different
The Best Ryan I fully agree.
10 Years late squad? Who misses the Wii/Wii U era?
1:09 history repeats itself with me and Sonic Boom, Hyrule Warriors, and Gen 3 Remakes. SSB4 has overtaken my hype from them completely.
I got the soundtrack for this game when I bought my Deluxe Wii... I think that was a nice bonus.
A great review of my favorite 3D Mario game. Congratulations, Johnny.
This game is absolutely beautiful.
The music , Rosalina as a character, there’s so much to love
WHO’S READY FOR SUPER MARIO 3D ALL STARS!?
you already know I am!!!
And now it's out! Completed galaxy in two days because i was just so excited to play it again, and currently trying to complete for the first time
Got it yesterday ‼️
i remember first playing this game. One of the best things i've ever played.
that rosalina backstory the feels
ahh yes the review i one day stumbled upon all those yrs ago and became a johnny fan ever since, cant believe its almost 5 yrs
"Ok, finished all the videos I had for the morning. Time to start my homewo-"
*sees this*
Dammit Johnny!
12:40 WHAT KINDA SORCERY IS THIS?!?
I love this dude. His reviews are some example of perfection, hands down.
Another spot-on review Johnny, can't wait for Mario Galaxy 2!
Dammit. Now you make me want to buy this game again.
Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite Mario game of all time its so amazing and my favorite game of all time period if you own a Wii or Wii u get this game
johnny, you just made my weekend by uploading this video man. it makes me forget that i have to go back to school on Tuesday.
Can't believe this marathon was 7 months ago!
Solaris642 i know, right? time sure does fly when your'e just livin' life, am i right?
Yeah you're right
Solaris642 Really though, how can time fly so fast?
4:32 I’m surprised 2007 graphics still look amazing to this day!
Considering it's on Wii
Can i just say Rosalina is so adorable it hurts.
Galaxy 1 and 2 are the best Mario games I've ever played, and even some of the best games period.
I agree.
It's very interesting seeing both Johnny's reviews and NitroRad's reviews of the 3D Mario games, and seeing their conflicting views on Power ups.
Johnny, you my man, have. made my morning 10000000% better :D
7 years later and It's still an impressive Wii game.
Remember Johnny every 3d mario game doesn't have power ups
Except for 3d land and world
happy 13th anniversary super mario galaxy!!! :3
a great showing of mario on the wii and my favorite mario game(along with 3d world & odyssey) that i love so much with it's music(the orchestrated pieces definitely that add to the bright worlds in space you explore .),gameplay(though i wish the rolling ball was cut and wish the red star was brought back/made into the cape feather it took advantage of the wii/used gravity in a non forced way the star spin and cappy are my favorite features and i just found out about the homing ground pound.),cinematic presentation(it has such a movie like feel similar to sonic unleashed to me that i'm glad odyssey brought back and hope the next mario game has that.),post game(way better than pre galaxy and 2 especially with how much you collect as i loved playing as luigi again along with finding his interactions with rosalina cute in the ending picture and getting to enjoy the star festival at the end.) and especially rosalina(along with luigi/daisy,princess peach and wario/warioware's cast my favorite mario character for her sweet motherly personality, her wonderful backstory which mario needs to do more of and being my favorite nintendo god along with palutena/viridi.:3)
Personally I found SMG1 better than its predecessor.
WelloBello
*successor
@@ITNODove I noticed that also. You think he meant Super Mario Sunshine when he said predecessor?
I'm playing it now on super Mario 3D all stars amazing game
@@chadrasmussen6127 nice
@@MRWINDYMETHANE Regardless, SMG1 is in my opinion better than SMG2 and WAY better than SMS.
One of my favorite games of all time, alongside its sequel and Odyssey.
Let's see, Bowser crashes a party, steals Peach's Castle, and Mario falls through the atmosphere... Sound like the original Paper Mario anyone?
12:32
BTW, about that postcard, you get 2 of these after you collect 121 stars with both Mario & Luigi.
True words.
That's because Galaxy 1 is better. No no I'm joking. I do think Galaxy 1 is better but I like them both. TBH I like Galaxy 2 better until the green stars came in to play.
JustCallMeShwick That's your opinion and your OWN reason for why you prefer Galaxy 1. Don't state it as a fact.
TopHatLucario Lol I don't think you read my comment. XD Or else you wouldn't have made yourself look dumb.
JustCallMeShwick Just saying. You have your own oppinion.
This Is The Greatest Video Game Ever.
What a fun way to spell Baldur's Gate 2.*****
***** what... the... actual fuck?
***** what?
***** i didn't know metal gear solid 3 was another way to say SANIC THE HEDGEHOG
yet0another0account really? REALLY???
This Game is AWESOME! And I'm very glad I played it!
Nintendo. Galaxy 3. NOW
This was my first 3D mario game, as I grew up with the PS2 instead of the Gamecube. And I still love it.
1:21 - 1:32 Hey, Resident Evil 4 wasn't a bad game.
Mister S Gaming He's talking about sonic and the secret rings
It was a joke. I know he was talking about Secret Rings. It. Was. A. Joke.
Sonic and the Secret Rings, it was a broken, motion controlled mess.
i loved ice mario, skating on ice and wall jumping WATERFALLS (despite being board looking), so badass.
My favorite part of this game was Rosalina.
She's easily the best princess, that's for sure.
Finally, someone who agrees with me!
she's my favorite character of all time! in the whole world! period!
monster25man Awesome!
Rosalina is my favorite mario character,I remember when I was a little bit younger and first got the game I was amazed at how beautiful she was when I first saw her,I also loved the story book part of the game that told you about her history.
3:28 I know Rosalina, has pretty much been one of my favorite "Mario" characters. I always liked her as a character
JOHNNY VS. KINGDOMHEARTS MUST BE DONE.
One of the greatest games ever.
hey johnny, what was your reaction to Rosalina in Smash Bros? and what are your thoughts?
SMG1 is my favorite 3D Mario game, 3D World comes in a very close second though.
I just freaking love the Purple Coins music.
really wish you would do a marathon of the resident evil series its my favorite series of all time would love to see you do a marathon of it
+Matthew Phillips From what I've heard, he really only loves RE4 and 5.
You convinced me.
I might play this game one day. One my Wii U. Is it available on eShop? (I have a Wii Remote btw)
No only as a physical copy but its so cheap nowadays that you're better off just getting the physical disc anyway.
Hmmm'k... Hope I can get it for cheap here, in France...
HitsujiMamoru
try amazon maybe.
I'll do that^^ I have too many games on my list for the end of the year but maybe I'll buy it and put it on my shelf until I have the time for it lol
You will not regret the purchase!
This game is absolute perfection in my eyes. By far my favorite Mario game, and game in general. The music, gameplay, variation, and cutscenes make this game my favorite ever. Nintendo, I know you guys CAN top this, but it will be hard. Very hard.
3:40 MY-A EYES! MY-A FUCKING EYES-A!!
+Kiernan Howell-MacKinley IT'S TO-A-FUCKING BRIGHT-A!
My favorite game of all time.
Ah I remember this game, my first 3D Mario, it's great to see that it has remained great since I first played it 10 years ago! As opposed to sonic '06, an no I'm not joking I owned that shit when I didn't understand good games
Rosalina is like Shadow... considered "mysterious" despite having a more developed backstory than the hero or villain.
This game is almost 7 years old. Holy shit.
Nearly 10 years old now...
I love that one frame that shows the lost levels when he's talking about the quality of Mario games.
3 more days...
Man, I can't believe this game came out 7 years ago.
It wasn't the first time Bowser kidnapped Peach along with her castle. Remember the N64 paper classic? Good times. Good Times...
Silshadnic Paper Mario, hands down, one of the best Mario games ever, and one of my personal favorite games of all time.
***** I was talking about Paper Mario 64.
This was one of my first Wii games, and just watching this video gave me so much nostalgia. Damn it, now I want to go out and buy it again.
Galaxy is honestly my favorite of the Mario series. I can't wait for his review of Super Mario Galaxy 2!
The great thing is, I don't think most of your viewers noticed the joke at around 10:11... it was so perfectly executed. Well done.
Well you're right about one thing. I definitely don't get it.
Listen to it several times.
By the way, if you do know what is funny and you are simply not laughing because you are more "mature" then pointing that out by saying "I definitely don't get it" just makes you seem immature by comparison... Erection.
SensibleGaming
Oh that joke! Yeah the time stamp you put up skips that joke entirely, so I thought you were talking about something else. 10:07 is what you should have put down.
DAMN YOU UA-cam AND YOUR RANDOMLY SKIPPING TIME STAMPS!
This is the best Mario 3d game ever. The music, the gameplay, the story is just perfect :D
