Your basket designs are so genius. The flip over is just so clever, I LOVE it. I am using this pattern as a base for a project bag and it has so many options. I've added a pocket in the lining and it's the cutest thing. Thank you for such a great tutorial and pattern
I am left handed and it is incredibly hard for me to learn from a right handed person so I spend so much time trying to find the perfect person for me to learn from and you are that perfect person. I thank you so much.
I am a newbie basket maker after crocheting for 50 years - wow you are amazing thank you for the best explanation I have seen, I am now excited about making my first basket rather than terrified, you have shared your knowledge and have done it so well thank you ❤
You saved a project for me, I was about to tear it out but I used the heirloom stitch to add a lining and used the plastic canvas idea to make the basket I was working on sturdy. Thank you
A BIG thank you! I am on a fixed income and this is perfect for giving aChristmas present. I put in soaps and little candles washcloths (I also made) and for another I put a smudge stick kit type of thing with crystals and incense. I was skeptical about this (not because of your great pattern , )but my ability to pull it off. And I DID. Very polished and elegant I did enclose on the little card your website . I am going to stick to you like glue! I am so thrilled.
This is my first year of not buying gifts because we are also on a fixed income now. I am making wash cloth, face scrubbies, spa headband, soap holder to wash with and pretty soap from a craft show and then a basket to put it in.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I've been racking my brain trying to find a way to make sturdy bins out of what I've got hand. Your technique is just what I needed.
Hello Rebecca, I love your tutorials. I fell in love with the Nautical Basket but also love the square basket, so I just mixed the two together. I tried this herringbone stitch with another yarn which likes to split easy. First I tried doing it like you did but the hook was always splitting the yarn. Then I took a knitting needle to pull the middle one over which works but's a little laborious. Now I pull it up and just hold the left with my thumb while I pull the hook through the middle part. That makes sense and is much easier now. I do have plain white porcelan vases which I can cover with the square basket. Also a cheap plastic box will do to put inside. Well, in this case you should measure it exactly, but it works, and you can put a little heavier things inside. I am looking forward for your next projects.
Thank you !!! I love your baskets and you are very good at teaching. I made your other baskets and they are so pretty. Looking forward to making this one. Again thank you for all you do.
Thank you SO much for explaining the inside-out vs. right side-out thing. I've been baffled by that in so many tutorials from lots of different teachers.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I saw this pattern on Ravelry and loved it, but I really am bad at crochet. This seems doable, even for a non-crocheter because of the super clear step-by-step!
Rebecca, thank you for sharing this creation. I've never used the Herringbone stitch before and it's so stunning. I really appreciate all your work with the video and your written pattern. You are so awesome and I look forward to crocheting more of your designs. 🥰 < Susan >
The layer folded fabric is a very clever clever genius Idea . I am trying to plan a slim and tall laundry basket. Because the store bought hampers are Awkwardly sized and bulky which makes difficult to store. But this basket pttrn is a very practical and thought-out. It is sturdy aswell as soft/flexible enough to store/hide in tight corners E.G: behind a door, behind a dresser or headboard under a sink cabinet. and seems easy… THANK YOU SO MUCH you are a genius and you deserve more than a like, subscribe and bell-notification. I will be following your content and tutorials for sure… Cheers, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
I really like these. I have started the rectangular set for baby dresser set. Needed to tips on stiffening the structure and found them on your channel. Your work is really nice. Tks for all the tips
Hi Rebecca! I love your work!! I’m wondering if I can combine techniques to make the square herringbone basket with the spike stitch from your round mosaic baskets? I just made the large mosaic and I love it, but I want a matching square basket. If you have any advice about how to do that I’d really appreciate it. Thank you in advance! 😊
@Trevisign8 I was wondering the same thing. I made her Mosaic basket and love it but have been curious if I could do this technique with the square basket? I think I’m going to try it. Did you ever try it or just made the square basket with original pattern? Thanks, Tina in Tennessee
This is a great tutorial and super clear! Has anyone done this with acrylic yarn instead of the cotton-nylon blend? Wondering how it turned out. Thank you!
I am a beginner and want to thank you for your easy to follow videos. The very best that I have seen. I was wondering if you could tell me how to figure the amount of yarn that I would need for a basket that measures: 11" W x 11" D x 13" H? Thank You!!!
In the UK our milk cartons are plastic so as an eco-friendly, (recycled option) you could probably use a milk carton cut to size. Depending how big yoyr basket is. I have an issue with plastic. Re-using is less of a problem!
Could you make this basket taller and wider or do you think it would lose it’s shape? And if you think it would work would you use the same yarn or something stiffer to hold the shape? I have been searching for a crochet pattern for a basket for my laundry room and I love this pattern so that’s why I had to ask...tfs!
I would like to know what type of yarn you used or I should use? Because when I made mine it doesn't stay up but I did everything else like you did. And turned out well
Hey.. Thank You so much for the tutorial.... i loved it... this is the first time I have crocheted a basket, so could you please explain how to sew in the inner edges?
Suggestion: in order not to waste the plastic canvas...measure the circumference of your basket and decide it by 2 to get 2 pieces that should fit without any guesswork or waste.
Hi....great basket....but I do have one simple question. I have some T-shirt yarn that I want to use and it's pretty colorful and I'm not sure if the herringbone stitch would even show up. Could I use the HDC or SC stitch and get the same effect.... thank you very much
Thank you for sharing this. Just a general crochet question, when crocheting and any pattern and says join with a slip stitch and chain one, can you just do a seamless join instead? Its only I prefer crocheting this way x
I certainly wish! :) There would be a few reasons a designer would tell you to join. If the pattern only looks a certain way when done in turned rows, you'll have to join in order to turn. When patterns have stripes or lots of color work or stitch changes, sometimes joins are necessary to avoid a jagged color change or bunching fabric. If you see a pattern that you believe could be made seamless, it may just be that the designer didn't know how to do that technique.
II really liked your video and have one question; If I used the same yarn could this be used for a casserole basket or would the plastic mesh melt from a hot pyrex pan? Thank you!
Your tutorials and projects are amazing. I'm so grateful to you. I have a question. On the video when you are starting to work the 3rd loop round, you said, and did, chain one before starting this round. In the directions, you didn't mention chaining one before the 3rd loop stitches. Which way is correct? Thank you so stinkin' much for your amazing website and work. You are brilliant!
Thank you for your kind words! The CH1 is written on the video version of the pattern (on screen), but I went and checked the blog post and you're right, the CH1 is missing. I added it. However, either way would have ended up fine; some people choose not to CH1 at the beginning of an SC round.
I haven't, but I prefer slouchy-style bags. I know several of our FB group members have added plastic canvas to the sides of some of my bag patterns to stiffen them. Others have mentioned using interfacing.

What a joy to watch such a clear, concise and pleasant tutorial.! You've given me all kinds of inspiration. Thank you.
I am left handed and it is incredibly hard for me to learn from a right handed person so I spend so much time trying to find the perfect person for me to learn from and you are that perfect person. I thank you so much.
How refreshing to find a tutorial that doesn’t have annoying music playing all over it. Makes such a difference 🙂
I appreciate the printed instructions on the left while you explain in the video. I wish everyone did this.

I can’t believe how amazingly you explain everything. I hope you continue with your channel for a long time bc it’s become my fav!!!
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial, Rebecca. You are a born teacher! ☺
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I've been racking my brain trying to find a way to make sturdy bins out of what I've got hand. Your technique is just what I needed.
Thank you for the tutorial and for taking the time to explain every single detail. You are awesome!

I've made at least 8 of these baskets in various sizes for friends and family...they are wonderful

Oh my God Rebecca. You read my mind 😁
I've been looking for a basket like this for ages now. It's perfect! Thank you 😃
This is genius!! Im jealous I didnt think of this technique myself! Great video and clear instructions. My basket turned out so cute!! 😊

I just made baskets using plastic, but I like your way much better. Thank you.
You are a very good teacher! Thank you❤
Beautiful baskets...thank you so much, very good tutorial, the best I have ever seen on explaining.... thank you!
Fantastic 🤩
One thing I'd like to know who the one pathetic, envious human is who downvoted this unparalleled tutorial.
Lol! Thank you for the complement. I get a handful of downvotes on every video, so I've concluded that I will never be able to make everyone happy :)
Happy New Year! 🎉
These are pretty...😍 Thank you for sharing...😊
This is an awesome tuts! Thank you very much, you're an amazing teacher! Subscribed! ❤❤❤

Your videos are awesome thank you so much you’re so easy to follow and I’ve learned some great technique’s thanks to you.
Very beautiful basket
Fabulous tutorial as usual.
Btw I still love your tutorial ❤️ It makes sense and I know what I’m supposed to do I just chose a thin yarn lol
Thank you! Love it!
This is a great tutorial and super clear! Has anyone done this with acrylic yarn instead of the cotton-nylon blend? Wondering how it turned out. Thank you!
Genius!! Thanks. Stella

Absolutely Gorgeous ❤️
Perfect basket
Love this!!!
Perfect! Thank you!
Can u please suggest a comparable yarn to what you used for the square basket I can't find a color I like in the home dec thanks
In the UK our milk cartons are plastic so as an eco-friendly, (recycled option) you could probably use a milk carton cut to size. Depending how big yoyr basket is. I have an issue with plastic. Re-using is less of a problem!
Súper me gusto mucho felicitaciones desde Ecuador
Awesome. Can't wait to get me some Bernat Maker yarn and get started... Do you have any recommendations on washing/cleaning the finished basket???
If you want to put it in the washer, you should remove the plastic canvas and wash according to the instructions on the yarn.
Muito lindo. 💕👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love your stitch marker
Thanks for the video but think I’m going to make a rectangle. Wish me luck on changing the base.
Could you make this basket taller and wider or do you think it would lose it’s shape? And if you think it would work would you use the same yarn or something stiffer to hold the shape? I have been searching for a crochet pattern for a basket for my laundry room and I love this pattern so that’s why I had to ask...tfs!
Sure! You'll just need to reinforce it with as much plastic canvas as you need to make it as sturdy as you want. :)
I would like to know what type of yarn you used or I should use? Because when I made mine it doesn't stay up but I did everything else like you did. And turned out well
I used Bernat Maker Home Dec, which is hard to find these days. But that’s not what makes the basket stay up; it’s the plastic canvas that does that.
Thankyou I do have plastic canvas. How many rows do you do for the height? Before you get to the sc? Sorry for so many questions
Hi! thank you so much for this tutorial. Is there an organic alternative I can user the mesh, as I am not a big fan of plastic?
Hey.. Thank You so much for the tutorial.... i loved it... this is the first time I have crocheted a basket, so could you please explain how to sew in the inner edges?
C'est splendide !!!
Suggestion: in order not to waste the plastic canvas...measure the circumference of your basket and decide it by 2 to get 2 pieces that should fit without any guesswork or waste.
Could you demo how, and at what point, you added leather handles. How did you seamlessly attach them?
thanks for sharing.
Great video very informative!
If I wanna use cotton yarn and do 6x6 what do you suggest?
Hi....great basket....but I do have one simple question. I have some T-shirt yarn that I want to use and it's pretty colorful and I'm not sure if the herringbone stitch would even show up. Could I use the HDC or SC stitch and get the same effect.... thank you very much
Hi Deborah! Yes, those stitches would work fine. :)
Love this video! Is there another brand or yarn I can use? The one you use isnt sold at my local craft store. Thanks!
Hi Rebecca,Great basket I guess to make a rectangle it the base would need to be a rectangle how many stitches do you think for thatx
Just depends on how wide and long you want it. You'll just have to play with it until you have a rectangle the size you want :)
This is a wonderful pattern! Love this!!! Where did you purchase the yarn ? I’m definitely going to make some of these. Great tutorial !!! 🌺
I found mine at Michaels; I've also seen it at Walmart. It's been difficult to find lately as I believe they are rebranding it.
Yarn and Chai Awesome! Thanks soo much!!

@@YarnandChai thank you for clarifying xx
You make the best patterns and the best videos! You should come to VidCon! ❤️
II really liked your video and have one question; If I used the same yarn could this be used for a casserole basket or would the plastic mesh melt from a hot pyrex pan? Thank you!
The yarn would be fine, but I would worry about the plastic mesh. However you might be able to get creative and use something else in its place.
Hello, where can i order these type of yarn please. I love your tutorial videos. Cant wait to do some baskets soon.
PERFECT !!!...
What fabric is your t shirt yarn? Would a cotton make equally good looking items?
Bernat Maker Home Dec is a cotton/nylon blend.
@@YarnandChai Okay! Thank You!

great!! thank you !!
I assume the herringbone pattern wouldn't show up unless its solid yarn ?
Maybe not as well, but it probably just depends on the yarn. A really busy variegated yarn might not show off the stitch very well.
Do you make purses? Using plastic canvis.
I haven't, but I prefer slouchy-style bags. I know several of our FB group members have added plastic canvas to the sides of some of my bag patterns to stiffen them. Others have mentioned using interfacing.
