Rainbow such an under rated band Ritchie Blackmore is a god of a guitar player, the solo's on this DVD are truly awesome, personally I love Joe Lynn Turner on vocals by far the best his vocal range just suit Rainbow's tracks perfectly.
Rondinelli was --and is--- one of the best hard rock drummers to play the big stages. He made every band he worked with sound great. As they say in "Mozart in The Jungle": he "plays with the blood".
Thanks for posting this show! Lets forget about the silly argument re, "Who is the better singer?" That kind of talk is "kid stuff." When you are there, live, seeing it, its all so larger than life/exciting you don't think about who is the better vocalist. I am SO happy that I was at the perfect age to witness just about 97% of all of it. Keep the focus positive. We are a LUCKY bunch of folks! Kids now days will never experience this stuff!
Ritchie's a badass, he knows it, and he shows it. Total control throughout......but if something or someone pisses him off, prepare to see a man explode with emotion because someone is seeing him for the first time on any given night. He doesn't like to disappoint! Long live the king.

Completely agree with you. I read recently that David Gilmour from Pink Floyd when asked about Blackmore said. " I can't believe how fast he could play and incorporate the arpeggios into his solo's." What a compliment and I have never heard Blackmore put down Gilmour. Those two are the greatest strat players.

I am jealous dude. I think the sound in this concert is way better than the reformed Deep Purple from 1984 - 1992 when Blackmore left ... again. laughs
What can you freaking say, these guys were absolutely great. Wow what a show. To be there and watch this alive must have been completely mind-blowing!!! I've always been a Ritchie Blackmore fan but he was absolutely burning it up that night.
Jane, No drum solo ever sounded good. It just makes alot of noise and distorion, the very reason Ritchie told that idiot not to do it, but he did it anyway.
He was on the zone. And most of all he was in a good mood. I went to a lot of rainbow shows. And if he was having a pissy night he wasn't that. This show he gave us all. This will go down history as his best performance. Second best one I believe is California jam.
Blackmore is a genius. A master at his craft and he made great music. In Deep Purple you can catch him smile, Spot lite Kid. great riffs, Richie played the blues... Cool.
The song is dedicated to J.L.Turner, he was the spotlight kid, with stage obsession and star syndrome! When he came in Rainbow, Blackmore said - yo are great singer, but what is this Judy Garland prancing, feminine thing? I f you do that one more time, i will break the wall with your head!, or the audience will kill you before me! One hour before the Donington concert, Bonnet cut his hair to James Dean length , and Richie was very close to strike him in the neck with his guitar, and said -when i close my eyes and listen Bonnet, i think some masculine barbarian sings, and when i open eyes again, i want to close them forever! Richie confirmed that.
What a great band Rainbow was with this line up! I was lucky enough to see Mr. Blackmore with Deep Purple, 3 times with Ronny James Dio, and 3 times with this line up. Every live show I have seen has been exciting. Props to Roger Glover, one of the most underrated bassist's of all time. The guy if phenomenal. Not crazy about the Graham Bonnett days, but all other line ups were great. Should be in R&R Hall of fame.
This was Ritchie's best life performance ever. California jam is the second. He really pulled out all the stops. He knew he was on camera and this was going to go down in infamy. 50 years from now. People are going to be watching him and seeing what a genius he is on guitar. He really is top three guitars in the world during that time. Eddy took his crown. But hes second.

I just want to say we were very luck people having enjoying such a perfect music...Richiii You are perfect...
Richie and Roger actually interacting, onstage nonetheless, around 8:55, is priceless. BLACKMORE WAS SMILING, PEOPLE!
супер
Correct
Sonriendo Richie. Nunca visto.
@johnkowal6770 Paice too. Lord and Glover were good with him.
BACK IN 82....I WAS AT THAT CONCERT....THE RAINBOW STRAIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES SHOW....OH HELL.....IT WAS G'D'......AWESOME,MAAAAN!!!!.....RAINBOW....ROCKED!!!!
Man, how good was Joe Lynn Turner that night...
What would I do and who would I be today without this music!!! I have been listening to this since 12, almost 25 years now! It's in my blood, DNA and it is imprinted in my souls and consciousness forever!!!!! JLT, I love you! Joe Lynn Turner & Ritchie together = a freaking bomb of creativity!!! And what a band!!!! David, Bobby and Roger!!!!!
Best guitarist in the future! !!
Rainbow such an under rated band Ritchie Blackmore is a god of a guitar player, the solo's on this DVD are truly awesome, personally I love Joe Lynn Turner on vocals by far the best his vocal range just suit Rainbow's tracks perfectly.
It's because it is his own range.
My opinion,Ronnie was the best singer, and I love JLT,but my love lies with RJD.
San Antonio +2 coment, did Ritchie sign? You did think. Forward-ie. To: Renalto Black
Massimo Osti Yes, Joe Lynn Turner is awesom!!
NoyzyBoyZ3 Agreed RJD is/was perfect for rainbow.
HUMANITY LOST SOMETHING VERY, VERY SPECIAL WHEN THE ERA OF THESE AWESOME, UNIMAGINABLY TALENTED, LIVE ROCK BANDS TOURING ROUTINELY WAS LOST FOREVER. I am SO happy that I was at the perfect age to witness just about 97% of all of it. Keep the focus positive. We are a LUCKY bunch of folks! Kids now days will never experience this stuff!
I agree I was a teen in the 70s and we just had all these great and talented musicians ! Today's music does not compare !
Ritchie's a badass, he knows it, and he shows it. Total control throughout......but if something or someone pisses him off, prepare to see a man explode with emotion because someone is seeing him for the first time on any given night. He doesn't like to disappoint! Long live the king.
Watched Blackmore walk off the stage in Philly for 20 minutes anyway JLT singing for purple Crowd hated turner in purple
Probably pissed about a sound. @russellrobins5320
1987 Long live rock'n'roll!!!
Graduated high school in Boston that year. Played the hell out of this cassette and the Scorpion's Blackout. Great times.
noooo! SHIT! I love these guy's!
I graduated high school in Bratislava that year too.
Me too!!!
It was great to see Roger Glover playing with Ritchie again,it brought back good memories of a great band.
He was stable, I never really knew him?
actually,Roger worked with RAINBOW since the very beggining as a produser
Roger Fuckface is guitar sinking, YOU evil idiot
Dio with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Dio just puts on one heck of a show. One of the best voices in Rock-N-Roll history.
I was born October, the following year--this is one of my favorite shows! They all shine as individuals, + as a tight unit.
I used to watch this concert on MTV back in 82-83. love this set and this band.
Ritchie Blackmore - one of the most tasteful and classy guitarists my life has had the pleasure to have experienced through speakers.......
Well said....you can "feel" what they are playing. Not just showing off with speed or accuracy.
hey nicestrat ... again spot on. Blackmore, Gilmour do play by feel.
Watch it thru...the solo always gives me chills.....
there are 2 solos...
They' are all burning their hearts out here ❤
I was there with my brother. Still one of the best live shows I have ever seen.
I am jealous dude. I think the sound in this concert is way better than the reformed Deep Purple from 1984 - 1992 when Blackmore left ... again. laughs
I remember taping this on VHS off of MTV in the early 80s and watching it over and over again.
What can you freaking say, these guys were absolutely great. Wow what a show. To be there and watch this alive must have been completely mind-blowing!!! I've always been a Ritchie Blackmore fan but he was absolutely burning it up that night.
OMG! Outstanding !!! Ritchie is MAGNIFICENT as always.
Great concert, great guitarrista Ritchie Blackmore!!
This is music. long live this music. Ritchie is from another planet. The solo from Bobby Rondinelli is very good. Don't forget that to.
+janfctfan Enschede thanks for mentioning the brilliant drummer Bobby Rondinelli :)
I love this music so much. It's by fare the best music ever.
Jane, No drum solo ever sounded good. It just makes alot of noise and distorion, the very reason Ritchie told that idiot not to do it, but he did it anyway.
Ritchie is from a spiritual realm for sure!
God I play the guitar, since I was fourteen years old, and now I am 60 years old. ritchie is the best
Amazing backing females on the harmonies, love this iteration of Rainbow, RB and Glover and Turner out front, golden pipes. 🖤
Ritchie just rips it up here, that night he was untouchable.
He was on the zone. And most of all he was in a good mood. I went to a lot of rainbow shows. And if he was having a pissy night he wasn't that. This show he gave us all. This will go down history as his best performance. Second best one I believe is California jam.
Saw this right after I got my first guitar, 1983, and fell in love with Ritchie's Stratocaster. The best looking Strat ever IMO.
This is the peak of Blackmore's career & he shows his confidence. Killa show!
Blackmore is a genius. A master at his craft and he made great music. In Deep Purple you can catch him smile, Spot lite Kid. great riffs, Richie played the blues... Cool.
Killer not "killa".
Yeah but it's sad to see him now with the new Rainbow. His playing is sloppy and expressionless. It's really a pity.
"killer"
The best live performance from the best Rainbow line up.
You have GOT to be joking!?
You can’t have seen many live performances.
@@fishermansid8861 - I hope you’re referring to the OP!
Good, but not the best line up at all!
Obviously never heard the Original Ronnie James Dio Rainbow
What a great band Rainbow was with this line up! I was lucky enough to see Mr. Blackmore with Deep Purple, 3 times with Ronny James Dio, and 3 times with this line up. Every live show I have seen has been exciting. Props to Roger Glover, one of the most underrated bassist's of all time. The guy if phenomenal. Not crazy about the Graham Bonnett days, but all other line ups were great. Should be in R&R Hall of fame.
Funny moment when Rosenthal cocks up the solo in Spotlight Kid and Ritchie sticks his tongue out ha ha!
Killer Rainbow lineup.
Seen this on MTV Friday Night Concert circa 1982!
Awesome show, high energy throughout. The band was on fire! That crowd got their moneys worth. Looked like Blackmore enjoyed that night.
