- Welcome FLocers (fellow locers and aspiring locers). In this video I talk about the pros and cons of starting your locs with comb coils.
Pros
1️⃣ an easy starter method
2️⃣ perfect Loc form: form of the coil is already cylindrical
3️⃣ easy to fix if one comes undone or unravels
4️⃣ possibly the quickest starter method for your Loc to mature
5️⃣ nice looking style when you walk out of the salon
Cons
1️⃣ typically use a gel to hold them in place
2️⃣ they can come unraveled very easily especially if hair is short
3️⃣ allows for a lot of swelling so locs get very big

I love that comb coils have that beautiful cylindrical shape from the get go but I didn't start that way because I wanted my locs to be on the thinner side and not swell up.so much as they mature. Also I didn't want to deal with the unraveling. So, I chose to start with braids instead.

Very good information. The pros definitely outweigh the cons (if I were comparing the various methods you mentioned). My hair is soft and low density, so the interlocking method works best for my SL.
You channel covers the gamet for those who have lots of questions and don't want to jump around trying to find answers to FAQ's.

I started my micro locs with finger coils no product and I don't have an issue with the unraveling

I have 2 strand starter locks I don’t know if they will lock fast or slow idk if comb coils are better
Comb coils aren’t better but they do tend to Loc the quietest out of the starter methods
i been wanting to get my hair lock I was scared but I don't know were to start I don't like comb coil I was thinking insta lock
Don’t be scared to Loc your hair. Every starter method has its pros and cons. You just have to decide which one fits your lifestyle and personality the most! They all turn out amazing 🙌🏾
