  • Hi, in this video, I want to show you the recently failed SUN2000GTIL inverter with the AC-short, and how I repair it... Well, at least we can debate about the success :)

      yeah. We will find the culprit which turned this inverter into a 500W version ;)

    Roland, disappointing you were unable to fully repair the inverter to full specs. A thermal camera/imager might help you find a fault on the mainboard, while it is powered up. Uni-T branded Handheld Thermal Imagers are excellent value for money. Thermal imagers are great tools for diagnosing hot or cold components. Useful for finding faults in solar system too, especially faulty PV cells. Sorry I can not hep you, I do not know enough electronic engineering. I would help you if I could. :(

      Thank Matthew. I am sure I will bring this guy up to specs. Maybe the old trick with the hammer will work ;)

    By the way, the transistors should be soldered After the legs has been cutted, otherwise there will be eletrogalvanic corrosion between the openly exposed copper and tin!!!
    I am just kidding, good job! ...so far, good luck! ; )

      @@RolandW_DIYEnergyandMore Actually, what I wrote is true and it was drilled into me in teaching, but it is quite subtle and will hardly contribute to extending the life of the inverter.

      @@topeye4202 Yes. A lot more will fail before that will have any effect on the inverter :)

    Hello Roland, my sun grid tie inverter 2000w is showing 'start up voltage low'. Am using it with solar panels. What could be the problem?

    • @RolandW_DIYEnergyandMore
      @RolandW_DIYEnergyandMore  5 місяців тому

      Hi Lawrence. Is this a new issue? Did the inverter run well for a long time or do you just try to setup a new system?
      Is there DC voltage shown in the display? Do the panels provide a high enough voltage (more then set as return voltage in your power settings)? If yes, does it make a difference if you set the inverter to limit output to a small power output?
      Did you check the DC fuses near the DC input?
      Did you check for a shorted DC side after the fuses?
      The measurement circuitry for the DC side is right below the small control panel. If you remove it you can access a few small SMD components underneath where you could check if lets say there is a short over one of the small ceramic capacitors etc, or check the diodes if they still are right. Just take a general look at the DC side if you can see any signs of smoke.

    Hallo Roland , betreibst Du den im Batterie-Betrieb oder im Solar-Betrieb ? Ich frage Dich weil mein 1000er macht das seit dem ich den gekauft habe im Solar-Betrieb und im Batterie-Betrieb läuft alles OK .

      Hallo Kosta. Wie meinst Du das mit den Modes genau? Ich habe in den Einstellungen nichts gefunden was eine Umschaltung von Solar auf Batterie bewirken könnte. Ich kann nur Limiter einschalten oder nicht. Der Wechselrichter hängt nur an der Batterie.

    Roland, I will send you 20 Euro for help. I still do not know how to safely test/measure frequency using a multimeter. I have a clamp meter multimeter that has Frequency function, but am unsure of how to safely measure frequency in Australia 3-pin 230VAC General Power supply outlet. My new multimeter is Cat 3 600V Cat 2 1000VAC rated too (Uni-T UT216C 600A model). I tried many times to find suitable guide or video tutorial online, but none are clear or explain procedure. Would be great if you can upload a video the correct procedure to measure frequency from a 230VAC outlet that has Live/Line, Neutral and Earth. I am unsure if to use two probe leads and which wires to measure. I have already smoked one multimeter (also heard electric arc sound) with Frequency function that was Cat 2 600VAC and Cat 3 300VAC rated, and the RCD Breaker had tripped. From memory, I had put the Red probe lead into Live/Line and the Black probe lead into Neutral. I presume there was a dead short that happened when I did this, but even then I do not understand why it happened to prevent it from happening again. I really want to know how to correctly measure 230VAC Frequency with a multimeter. Thanks. :(

      OK, Mathew. I will do my best ;), but measuring frequency is like measuring voltage. Just make sure not to plug-in the probe into the Amps socket. I will check my meters if there is anything else to consider...

    • @Matthew_Australia
      @Matthew_Australia 5 місяців тому

      @@RolandW_DIYEnergyandMore Oh? That easy? Black probe to Earth and Red probe to Live/line?
      Maybe my previous clamp meter smoked and tripped RCD because of its lower Cat rating? I am still perplexed why the RCD was tripped. Maybe I was not suppose to probe Live/Line and Neutral, and this is what caused the RCD to trip?

      @@RolandW_DIYEnergyandMore My clamp multimeters (old and new one) only have two sockets to connect probe test leads, one is COM and the other is for the usual Volt/Continuiity/Diode etc. The clamp itself is what measures the current. There is no series connection to measure current on my clamp meters.

      @@Matthew_Australia please wait until tomorrow. I will test it out as soon i am getting up :) But in general in AC, probes do not matter which goes where. I first want to check if a clamp meter can do it by just using the clamp over the phase wire too.
