    Good tips. I think most people are best off buying a little solar to reduce their electric bill a little, and add to it a little later. The less the electric company notices, the better.

    You can now find a sun grid-tie inverter with limiter or GTIL.. It has a sensor that hooks to your input power leads from the grid and prevents back feeding through the meter but allows the loads in the house to use the electricity from the inverter reducing your power bill.

    Rules and regulations. That's exactly why I went off grid. Now they can't tell me how I have to do my shit. I live in an RV, so no building code to follow either. Can do it my way.
    And you nailed it too. They don't want you making your own power. Period. That's why in Florida, it's actually illegal to not have grid power to your home. It's about money. And you don't get cheaper rates at night. You get more expensive rates in the day. Lol

    In the UK the new meter just stops when backfeeding (light goes solid red to state no consumption) PAYG meters seem to work the same way (I only ever seen one person have an old spinner meter and there free solar system was spinning his meter backwards)
    but if they really want to be hissy they can fine you for running one of these uncertified grid tie inverters
    If you get a certified grid tie inverters like sunnyboy up to 240v 3.8kw > 16a max back feed (the inverter is automatically set to max 16a backfeed limit) you only have to notify them and they say if your street can have right away or when they have replaced the underground street transformer, if lots of people on your street have solar as the original old transformers was not designed for back feeding and if the street is back feeding to grid more than what is actually being fed into the street it can damage the older transformer
    Some early smart meters you don't want as they have a built in disconnect and would cut you off if you was backfeeding
    in Australia practically all the meters are configured in this way you just slightly send more than 5-10w backfeed they cut you off at the meter and then the electric company charges you to restore the meter as the meter reports that it was cut off because of back feeding as it has an error code on the screen which state it and they're not even smart metres they're just normal metres or the prepaid metres

    That was good information. Your warnings were right in line with my fears. I just want to cover the power needed for my AC. Out here it is scorching hot and the AC has to run from May through November. Need a way to push the power only when the AC is running. Any options on how to do this? I have 7 180wt panels mounted, but was afraid to go any further.

    Hi i was wondering i have 2 1000w grid tie inverter. And i don't want to push 2000w constantly in to the house. If i have a timer switch plugged into the wall plugs and set the timer to connect daytime disconnect night ...just simple thing will the inverter automatically click in to eiland protection mode. So example: from 9:00AM 1-1000W grid tie inverter. 7:00PM second 1-1000W grid tie inverter =(2000W). Till 12:00AM light switch turns off nr1 and nr2 grid tie inverter will that nake the inverter go to eiland protection. I only have a turbine and i don't see the point draining the battery bank when I'm not running light exstra.( So some up light timer switch trick the inverter to eiland protection?)

    I never thought they would invent something like that! Ridiculous. I saw a UA-camr with one a few days ago and swore that they coikd not invent something as dangerous as that. Why would someone make a power source with a make plug to back feed your panel?
    Why not just buy an inverter and power your TV and a few other things depending on the power consumption of those devices? That set up has all sort of complications.

    Tank You for the great video and information. Where I live, I can sell the electricity back to the power company. I will use both slar and wind to generate electricity. I have a few questions for You.Is there a grid tie inverter that would automatically turn off when the grid goes down without turning the wind turbine or the solar panels off, And automatically turn back on when the grid comes back up? Also I would like to power the house when the grid goes down from the wind turbine and the solar panels. I am trying to find a automatic load dump control. Any help would be a blessing. Again Thank You.

    I used a GTB-800 grid tie micro-inverter. for 10 day, before AEP Texas left a note on my door notifying me that I needed to submit the required interconnection application. In order to submit the application online, I have to submit spec sheets in docx. or pdf formats for each brand of solar panel (referred to as a generator), and each micro inverter, ;line drawings, and multiple photos of the system used. Most spec sheets are not readily available in these formats. After spending $140 for that inverter and $70 for a 300 watt, I was able to generate 1.5 to 2 kw per day. My house uses 25 - 30 kw per day. Obviously, it's not about the money. Yes, I have a smart meter, that transmits my info via rf. The other issue, is that any grid-tie inverter has to be precertified by UL-1741 and IEEE-1547. and these are not and are not qualified to use.

    I did make more the the half of my house separate from the meter, no connection to the meter.
    so my own lines and that works perfectly, we have lots of shutdowns so all the important things like light, fridge and house equipment are off grid, aircondion and shower are on the grid because of this I saved every month some 50 euro and the insurance that I have also light and my fridge is also working, the left over power is use for charging the batteries for the aquaponic and hydroponics and still even after a cloudy day all full

Outputs 150w then drops to 50 or 60, then builds back up to 150w, and the cycle starts all over again. If you want one of those you have to call the electric company and ask for that . And they will put one on your house if you have solar panels on the top of it .

    Begging for Forgiveness is easier then asking for permission. LOL Everything on Your side of the Meter is YOUR responsibility. Power company will tell you that them selves. That being fact they simply have no need to know. Insuring your system does in fact operate Island protection your good to go. All Grid Ties on the market that I've seen do in fact have Island Protection. Best mode of operation is to simply create no more power then your using.

    i wish he would have covered why you can't just take a regular pure sine wave inverter, shut off the main power in your panel from the power company, then run your home on your own inverter

    • @DavidHalko
      @DavidHalko 2 роки тому

      In the case of the grid tie inverters, as soon as you shut off the mains, the grid tie inverters will automatically shut off.

    • @DavidHalko
      @DavidHalko 2 роки тому

      In the case of non-grid tie inverters, you can shut off your mains, but most inverters will only run one side of your 240v panel; so you will get half your house covered.
      Pick which side gas your refrigerator ok it, and you are good for emergencies.
      With half your panel covered, don’t turn on your stove or dryer or water heater or HVAC system - that will blow up your little sine wave inverter:
      A really big inverter is needed to get off the grid. Your HVAC will have a rating call LRA (Locked Rotor Amps) and that is what you need to size your inverter to handle as the peak load.
      For example, my HVAC compressor has 130LRA, meaning your inverter must be rated to handle a minimum of 31,200 Peak Load, or a 31K inverter.
      (Think about the battery bank for that: 31.2kv / 48v battery bank = 650Ah peak capacity for a battery bank, being fed by your solar panels.)

  • @georgetavernier679
    @georgetavernier679 4 роки тому

    Actually I must say I like the way you explained the grid tie inverters. However there is one simple thing I need to know ,Does the three sprung cord that accompanies the inverter specifically for charging the battery only,or does it power up the house at the same time?If it doesn't then what must I do.Every thing else is already in place.

    • @Theunihornable
      @Theunihornable 3 роки тому

      The three prong cord is only one way to the power grid, the charging is done by a different source like with a charge controller connected directly to either solar or wind. You're gonna want a regular pure sine wave inverter for powering your house since the grid tie inverters are to trick the power company that you're using less electricity than you really are.

      Grid tie inverters do not normally connect to a battery bank.

    That stuff is not right anymore . It hasn't been right like that in years like 20 years. All you got to do is find out what uses what power with a kilowatt meter and that will fead back into your house . So if you're using 400 watts TV and stuff in that thing does 500 watts you'll have an extra hundred Watts going back into the meter . And 100 watts into the meters is nothing .
