Shortest Stroaahh! From Justice.
With most Metallica songs I cover, I must validate my missed fills by pointing out that Lars just does whatever he feels like that day. I watch him live anticipating the fill comin up and he just does whatever he feels like. It's pretty disappointing. However, live versions of songs like Fade to Black and Bells are way better than the studio versions. Songs like One and Wherever I May Roam shouldn't be fucked with. Ok, there's my Lars rant!
With that said, I took the liberty to do whatever I wanted in some parts as well.
For those who read this, I hope you had fun with my rambling. (;{)

I don't care what anyone says, Lars' drumming on Justice is phenomenal.
Also, awesome cover!
Noble many people say that’s where he peaked I don’t think he’s a bad drummer by no means but the later albums just aren’t creative or anything new
Unfortunately I feel that was the last album he tried to be innovative on. Now he just throws out whatever trash that doesn't come to mind when writing. AJFA is a brilliant album.
@@ericx7472 metallica in general peaked at and justice for all. thats how long Cliff's influence lasted. they lost their way after that. if hadn't passed I can't even imagine the great music they would keep putting out
@@parkeryigit4434 death magnetic imo is and justice 2
Read my description. I have always defended Lars and hold him as one of my main inspirations when I started drumming. I stole a lot of things from him! However, I come from the school of thought where fills are done for a reason. He comes off as someone who does whatever and that's forever etched in stone on the album. Then when he plays live he barely honors anything he put on it. To me, that's like changing the lyrics to the song. It tends to bum the fans who hold them in high regards. Cool?
I respect that although some people can not drum with speed like they did 30 years ago. It takes its toll. People get old and fills and timing get lost. ✊🏻
Gotta give Lars credit for the arrangements he came up with in the studio for sure. He’s pushing 60 too so I give him credit for still trying to play fast heavy music. Great cover as always! The drums are killer in this song in my opinion.
I totally fucking agree with this.
To all the Lars bashers out there all you have to do is watch this video and see what a challenge it is to play his parts....he really is brilliant.
...and those drum fills were taped together, literally, about a 1000 times when the song was assembled on master track. It is some of his best work (Justice) but still...
@jonny j Steve Thompson (And Justice for All's mixing engineer) said in an interview that the drum track had soo many edits to make the drumming sound even.
jonny j he has done it on most their albums so pipe down there
Dude you forget they played these songs live so even if they were stitched together who cares.
5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51 5:51
the lyrics to this song are unreal. that 2nd verse, holy shit
The justice album is one of the most important of all time when it comes to the lyrical content. It has been judged harshly based on it's production value ( bass guitar ) , you cannot take away from it's rhythmic attack and in your face lyrical TRUTH. If you listen to Pantera's first few albums, you may hear the Justice drum sound ( click-y ).
It's different for everybody. I played long enough where my learning is just listening to it a lot. Memorizing the arrangement and then the fills. Then I practice it for about a half hour and record it. I learned, for example? war is my shepherd by request and really focused on it, it took 3 days. Some it may take a day and others it may take a month. Just a matter of becoming totally knowledgable of the song, then the physical!
That snare though
You like?
Is the snare that clicking noise, I’ve been trying to recreate it but idk how ,btw I have been playing for a month
5:36 to 5:56 Was tight as fuck! xD
Thanks for that!
5:48 - 5:56 was amazing. Awesome cover, man. \m/ Love this album. Just wish it had bass.
I've heard the version where it was increased and I actually prefer it this way.
+Josh Steffen Ah. It's all good. :)
*phone ringing*
Josh: Yeah?
James Hetfield: Hey Josh,i'm James, Do you wanna be new Metallica's drummer?
This guy is definitely good not taking anything away from him but NO ONE will ever replace Lars Ulrich. Great drum cover though I love listening to this album
Gabriel Bernabe i was joking, don't worry
#larsulrichthebest
+Gabriel Bernabe He is better than Lars.
+Bilbo Baggins pwpw eisai polu asxetos re file!!!
+Bilbo Baggins Lars wrote this. (most of it)
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your kind words. And i'm glad you pointed out my fill, I love when I can improve and it works out. Greetings from the U.S, my Polish friend!
Omg love the 5:38-5:56 part!!
5:48 - 6:00
Man you're awesome!
That was a blast. You could tell I said fuck it and just went for it.
Lars's drumming on this album is awesome.
5:46 wot
Yeah that's fun stuff!
good job man that just put a smile on my face. thank you i just love to hear regular people doing what they love
Josh, in the description you really nailed the one thing I've learned to hate about Ulrich's live performances - which is him not giving a crap. He truly does not seem to care if and when he's dumbing everything down. I think it really says something about his commitment and loyalty to the music and the fans. It's so profoundly disappointing but the really sad part is that the rest of the band just... adjusts to it.
By the way, you are an awesome drummer and I really enjoy you videos :)
Thanks a lot man.
The band kinda have to adjust to it. Their not about to kick out the founder of MetallicA
Another impeccable Metallica cover. Your snare drum sound is a perfect match and you nail every nuance with your cymbal selection. You give me inspiration. Bravo!
That is the most popular comment on my Metallica covers! It's ironic that he taught me when I was growing up. Not literally but inspiration wise. Thank you.
I’m pretty sure there’s not double pedals going on with the fast parts of a lot of Metallica songs you play it’s on pedal
0:49 ? Lars Ulrich......
Spellbound. You kicked some ass there.. May be not so technical or difficult piece to play but in those times and even now it is a real thrash gem... Keep Drumming.. Long Live .. Looking forward to more n more . Thank You for taking the effort and can see that you are enjoying to the core..
Quizas el mejor q he visto haciendo covers... Sigue asi josh 👊🏾
been checking your stuff out for a couple months now. I gotta say im very impressed by the fact that every song you do,you play it down to the tee. Down to every single tiny drum roll or cymbal hit. I have been playing for 20 something years been around the block a few times in bands and know the biz inside and out and i gotta say i have never seen any one play as precise as you lol its crazy. When i play a cover or see any one else play a cover obviously your gonna play it alittle different or not hit every single note unless your one of those ppl that gets all into the tabs and all that bull shit but its crazy how you play it exactly like it is like its your own song lol. I got some major respect for you for sure. \m/ \m/
+Chris Royal thanks man. All by ear too.
Love your vids dude also i am learning the the whole and justise for all album
Incredible! Didn't realize that song was as intricate as it is nice timing on great sound gj man!
Without words ... Man is the best cover I saw of this song on UA-cam. Believe me find many covers and all had some damage, but this cover killed the song!. I admire you greetings from Argentina.
Incredible!! Nice job!
Best drum cover I've seen on youtube!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!
Wowwww....great job!!!!!Fantastic!
Super nice job! Very well done.
All nightmare long :D!, great job dude!🤘🏻
Josh phenomenal job you are a pleasure to watch it was spot on and I'll tell you guys Lars s back in the day especially off the Justice album was excellent drumming and challenging
Awesome cover! You added the perfect amount of your own style into the song. Insane bro!
+UA Fishing thanks

Metallica - Shortest Straw (HQ Audio)
You make it look far to easy!!! Justice is the album that REALLY got me into metal, great covers from this album man!
Thanks a lot! Justice was a big reason I got into playing drums when I was young.
do u have any recommendations to playing with a drummer and keeping time? I'm a guitar player and am curious
+Josh Steffen I think this took Lars about 40 plus takes to do for the video game lol great jam (well all Tallica songs are great IMO) but again Ty my friend for a baddass vid!!
dopedpanda get an understanding of drums, or even learn the basics yourself. It will help your guitar playing immensely. Make sure your drummer is good too, otherwise timing is lost.
I Love your videos dude, Playin these songs like they were meant to be played!
5:48-5:56 Oh My Lord That Was So Impressive Keep Up The Work Man Awsome Cover One Of My Favorite Songs From The And Justice For All Album Great Work Man. :)
Thanks for checkin me out man. Yeah they have tendency to trim their songs live. You know, if they think parts of the song bore the crowd then they should either not write it or reject the portion of the audience with a short attention span. The serious fans don't appreciate it!
Excelente compadre. Siga padelante
You are amazing!
Awesome, man! I had a blast doin this one.
Well.. Well.. Well.. This is amazing !!! You're best ever drum cover brother
thanks Darcie!
Great job, man.
Congratulations from Canary Islands, Spain ;)
Anybody who thinks Lars is not a solid drummer is a fool. He could be one of the most taken for granted drummers in rock history. Just because he's kind of seen as a "dick" people discount his ability as a percussionist. He certainly holds his own in a world of copycats.
+Francisco Javier also a better musician.
i think that the lars hate bandwagon is pretty overdone, however, it doesn't make up for the fact that lars does often play super lazy live, and it's really disappointing. he is super capable of doing it, i've seen him do some crazy shit live, but it's just so rare. granted, it did get better recently. so, you know, i think both sides have merit.
true. not many people can keep drumming like they're still 20 when they're actually 50. that said, he didn't really keep in shape, but that's his perogative. i think people are upset (when it's not just bandwagoning) because lars might have wasted a lot of potential.
SuperAWaC especially the way he seemed to kickdrum it looked like he used his whole leg, while others have techniques
I love how you look at the camera at the beginning. That's funny! Great cover though man. Superb job!
Thanks Raul! You're too nice!
It's funny you say that, I remember asking Achokarlos if he wanted to do raining blood and he said I was a day late! Haha
Holy shit! You slayed it!

I think this is the hardest metallica song for a drummer. But you pulled it off. Bravo.
try battery
yash sharma Dyers Eve is pretty difficult with the constant double bass parts. I have not seen one perfect cover of Dyers Eve on UA-cam, not one. A lot of guys have come close but not quite.
nah it definitely isn't the hardest
