- I played it my way. A little rough around the edges but some cool fills made up for it. It seems as if Lars has yet to find his identity, drumming-wise. I had some fun though. I got all new heads, cymbals and sticks! Finally...
I also moved my kit around in little ways and brought an 8" tom to the party. Enjoy!

In regards to your, "It seems as if Lars has yet to find his identity, drumming-wise," comment, it's actually spot on. I read an interview that was put into the front of the 'Ride the Lightning' drum book, and one of the things Lars said is that they realized that they couldn't really play all that well.
Excerpt:
"The year we wrote most of the songs for 'Ride the Lightning', we were ready to broaden our horizons quite a bit musically," says Lars. "I remember clearly how one day a few of us were saying to each other, 'Well, we really can't play,' and it was like 'Well, let's try and learn how.' So Kirk took lessons from this guy that nobody knew at the time, Joe Satriani, and I took lessons from his drummer. When I met him I said, 'Hello. I've toured all over the world, I have an album out, but I can't play drums.' Basically everybody went back to the drawing board and 'Ride the Lightning' emerged.
That's cool man. He was still on his way on ride the lightning. Once puppets came out I started to hear Lars!

That’s a weird beat. I don’t think I ever really noticed it until I heard it emphasized here. I’m not sure what you’d call it but it’s almost like there’s an extra snare hit at the end of each bar… measure… I’m not sure if that makes sense. It would really throw me off though. You handled it like a champ, my man. Killer.
I think the bridge is one of the best guitar riffs / breaks in a song I've ever heard. The drumming fits well with it to... if only when they play this song live lars would use a flipping ride during that part.

I'm sick and bored hearing people talking about Lars drumming and comparing with the people who covering his drumming. Don't you know that Metallica is owned by Lars Ulrich. And most of metallica songs were written by him . Only 2 were not writen by him. So please show your respect to him by not talking bad about him. People aging you know.
Lars wrote most if not all the songs in Metallica of course James did most of the guitar work, but everything else there is in a song, Lars did.
