The rabbit would be pitted against a bear and a fox and would often get himself out of sticky situations by tricking him.
One of the funniest moments of this scene in my opinion is a cowboy just sitting around so casually in the far left in the midst of this carnage. Thinking of that man just sitting around while Mongo was tearing the place about is such a surreally funny thought!

True fact: After a number of takes where the horse failed to drop correctly to to stunt rider's pulling on the reins, Alex was a little pissed off. In the final take (used in the movie!) Alex actually hit the horse!!! They say the horse was almost completely knocked out!

Take a look at the horse laying on the ground, and, it has this look on its face that says WHAT THE HELL JUST HIT ME?!?!?🤣🤣🤣🤣 BTW, this is and the campfire scenes are my favorite in the movie.
I have to admit, the two moments at 2:17 and 2:30 where Bart is a bit taken aback always crack me up. Sometimes Bugs Bunny reacted like that, like when he first hears the bagpipe in "My Bunny Lies Over the Sea".
I recall a version where Bart plays all sorts of Bugs Bunny tricks on Mongo, like having Mongo go diving down a well in an old fashioned scuba suit and then cut off the air supply while lowering a sign that read "more air 25 cents." The candygram was just one of a few tricks on poor Mongo.
There was a movie in the late 60's or early 70's called 'Vanishing Point " Big hit , almost a cult following , and Cleavon played a blind D.J., keeping radio contact with the star , who was driving a 1970 Dodge Challenger 'cross country , alerting him where the cops roadblocks were. Pretty cool movie , it and Little Big Man were the drive-in hits that summer .

Yeah, I've read conflicting things. Some say that that part wasn't in the theatrical release, just in the tv edit. Others say that the extended parts with Mongo right after this scene weren't in the theatrical release but that this part was. I'd think this part at least would have to be in the movie. I had the movie on VHS and at the end it included the tv version's scenes but I don't have a vcr to check it hah.

Candy gram was in the theater release. Several scenes were made and they play on the television version because of all the scene cuts due to content, but candy gram was original. I was 15 when I saw this movie at the cinema and remember it well…plus I’ve seen it countless times since.
