2Cellos were an incredible duo. I had the good fortune to see them live in Auckland (new Zealand). A concert I will never forget. Not often you see people dancing in the aisles at a 'cello' concert.

Playing as aggressively as you need to to make the sounds they did carry a high risk of breaking bow strings, but also they usually over-tighten their bows to intentionally increase the chances of it happening for the sake of showmanship in their videos. Normally, for actual play there would be a lot less.
As a former Double Bass player in a strings section one thing i learned, the composer loves it when they see bow strands breaking. To them it means the player is playing with passion. Its not hard to replace the strings and normally a player will carry more than 1 bow with them for any performance and practice.

They've done some famous songs that are amazing. Two I recommend you seeing are "Smells Like Teen Spirit" originally by Nirvana "Smooth Criminal" originally by Michael Jackson 2Cellos are amazing and they toured with Elton John and were just incredible. Those two performances I mentioned are certainly worth your time.
All the orchestral string instruments that are played with a bow (Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass), occasionally have to be re-haired because of breakage. These two musicians are playing so violently they'll be lucky if they finish the song without having to change bows before the song ends.
They are a pair of classically trained cello players from Croatia. Their specialty was modifying pop music to play on their cellos. They played to very large crowds for several years. I have lost track of them since before Covid. Glad you liked them. They are very talented.
Hi Inna. Good reaction to 2Cellos, they are from Croatia and their names are Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser. Both are classically trained cellists. Also feel free to check out ELO (The Electric Light Orchestra), they also use cellos for both rock and pop music. Some good songs with them are: "Livin' Thing", "Rockaria", "Telephone Line", "Showdown" and "Sweet Talkin' Woman". Good job, keep it up.😉❤
I saw them (ELO) in Oakland, Ca. many, many years ago. The whole stage was a huge flying saucer that split apart along it's edge and rose up slowly. The band also rose up out of their own individual trap doors playing. At one point both holding the Cellos upside down over their heads absolutely killing it.

the reason their bows shred is they are strumming much harder than normal for traditional cello playing, normally your cello teacher would rip you a new one for not taking care of your bow like that.
Just a little side note. "Cello" is one of those odd words that has kept its original pronunciation when it was adopted into English. So it sounds more like "Tchello" than "Sello". Obviously, if you've only ever encountered the word in text (as opposed to speech), you'd never know this.
If you watch them carefully when they were 'having a conversation' they were actually swapping back and forth the 'lines' each were playing. They were (unfortunately they have retired and split up) EPIC, and even better to see live, I had the chance to see them on their 'farewell' tour when they came 'down under' (at their 3rd to last concert in Perth WA), at the live show they had a drummer as well, absolutely EPIC live, but unfortunately now only in videos.
I remember back in high school. I wanted to play this song at a concert. My teacher didn't let me because i refused to play with other groups. I was first chair cello from middle school through high school. I hated playing in quartets and quintets. Because of that I'm sure my teacher didn't let my teacher didn't let me play what I wanted.
I'd recommend checking out UA-cam video titled "Apocalyptica - Enter Sandman (Plays Metallica By Four Cellos - A Live Performance)", too. 2CELLOS was created in 2011 whereas Apocalyptica has been doing similar stuff with 4 cellos since 1993. If you don't mind also having drums and singing, see for example "Apocalyptica feat. Brent Smith - Not Strong Enough (Official Video)".
Another group that does Thunderstruck is Steve N Seagulls, and they have another completely different take on it. You’d have a good time listening to them, too!
Elton John saw a video here on youtube of these two guys and decided to hire them immediately. There is a video here on youtube of Elton John talking about it. You should definitely look it up. 🙂
Clearly you've never been introduced to Zoey Keating. She has an ongoing project called "One Cello x16." She samples her play over and over again and blends it all together. Her use of the cello for percussion is particularly impressive.
Cello is mostly played with real horsehair bows. (strings plural, the bow actually consists of many strings/hairs that are all aligned in one direction, so you have the "smooth" direction and the direction with more friction on the strings. You always rip a few of them normally playing chello, but of course the way those two play they completely shred their bows.
I love this song! I have found some new songs two weeks ago and I think they're great. The first one is "Beginning of the End" by Kane Roberts, Alice Cooper and Akissa White-Gluz and the second one is "Black Widow's Web" by Angra, Alissa White-Gluz and Sandy. You should try them.
