"Are mushrooms the villain of Resident Evil 7?"
Quite literally, yes.
Well. Technically (as always) Umbrella corp os the villain
Mushrooms are not a mold
@@slinkadoo6292 It's the game that made the joke, not me
@@thomasdegroat6039 I know, sorry if that came across as condescending. I really like fungi and Resident Evil. My goal is to further merge the two communities so I can narrow down the perfect candidates for world domination. Sic semper tyrannis. Our cheeks will reign supreme
*Glances at Ethan* 👀
the way chris says "ETHAN, NO" always cracks me up. its in the same tone i say it to my four year old niece
"Chris?... Stop it!"
@@psbox362 "Wesker... you're pitiful!"
it always makes me think he sees ethan as a pet, just like "ethan, NO! sit!, down boy!"
“Ethan, _no._ Down, boy.”
Jill, no!
"this game came out like last year?"
Im glad I'm not alone in how COVID warped my sense of time....
I swear it was 2022. Wtf
Wasn't it like 3 years ago?
No that’s just how time feels when you get older
"What was that game we played recently that was like Resident Evil?"
"Resident Evil?"
Which video was that
"My man gets soup whenever he wants!"
this is gonna be a good series
That was my favorite line.
10:28
“Ethan! No!”
“Stay! Good boy!”
**CallMeKevin screeches in the distance**
I like Ethan reacts to Chris shooting his wife with the same tone of irritation like he just got cut in by someone in line.
Idk why they recast him.
I have never heard a less convincing professional sounding voice.
it just means he has to run to the store for more of that miracle health juice that could reattach limbs
That was my main issue with his character. He has zero emotion. In RE 7 his wife chops his hand off and he treats it like a minor annoyance.
I mean. . . She was being really mean
WHY?¿?
Arin immediately starting with the resident of evil creek joke from the ghoul grumps playthrough of Re 1 and Dan not remembering it is peak game grumps
Why, did Danny tell it first?
I mean, it is peak grumps either way, just curious
@@stoodmuffinpersonal3144 Nah but Arin has told him about it before.
Yeah - I listened to that playthrough yesterday too so it's funny seeing Danny's two different reactions on the same story
Arin decided, in his mid thirties, that getting regularly punched in the brain would be a good hobby, so I'd expect him to forget a lot more once the CTE inevitably starts kicking in.
I am just like arin. Everytime she comes up in a conversation gotta tell everyone in the room about this. 😂
I hope this becomes a series; I'd LOVE to see Arin and Danny's reaction to the things this game has, especially that... thing in Donna Beneviento's house, the mutated form of Salvatore Moreau, and the boss fight with Karl Heisenberg.
Oh I can hear Danny's screams now.
Yes
Beneviento House
It's gonna be epic
I love RE 8AGE
Pretty good chance I say, after the finished their Episode of phoenix wright, I think they said that they have a long series planned to come next (probs this) and sometime near in the future they will do danganronpa 3
They said they're gunna keep up the long series on weekends thing so yeah!
What about the flask?
40:00 Oh, so close Dan! She's the Bat Lord!
All 5 of the main bosses are listed in order: the Bat Lord (Dimitrescu), the Dark Weaver (Beneviento), the Fish King (Moreau), and the Iron Steed (Heisenberg), led by Mother Miranda, the Witch
The reason Heisenberg sounds Like That is because it's a transatlantic accent, the kind of accent they use in older movies like Mary Poppins, they also used it a lot over the radios between Britain and America. It's like a mix of the two accents and is designed to be understood by both nations. As far as I know, Heisenberg's backstory is that he grew up secluded in a factory in Germany and only really had the radio to listen to so he developed that accent.
Also excuse the Heisenberg pfp I'm normal about this game I swear...
The VA even talked about his process mirroring older movies. I think he said he was emulating Cary Grant
"You shouldn't be out here, its not safe" Ethan says to the person with two human skulls attached to a cane
LITERALLY what I said to myself when watching it.
He’s a himbo, your honor
“Were mushrooms the villain” oh Arin, your curse of foresight strikes again
I think he was remembering the mold in 7, not predicting 8.
Not really foresight, mold's pretty exchangeable with fungus.
@@dowfreak7 it does make that note hilarious foreshadowing though
@@TriforceWisdom64 it’s still the same mold for the most part iirc
@@jackofnotrades7745 it is 100% the same mold, 8 directly explains the origins of the mold
18:30 technically you're right arin, third person was added later as post content due to fan request, however all cutscenes and event triggers are set to be first person so they get a bit janky in third person
Something about ethan winters just makes first person feel right.
@@ScarasRealLover Yeah - he is the only Resident Evil protagonist without a face. You can't even look at his face in third-person.
@@DarkZide8 he has a canon face. It was even in 7. They just took it out to push the "every man" thing for this game.
It's a really weird choice - Dead Space doesn't have a GUI _except_ what's on Isaac Clarke's back, and it's a great concept... This is just Spooky Anorak simulator.
7 and 8 were specifically designed around the first person perspective. I also personally think the third person mode in village sucks
So that Magneto Heisenberg guy is played by Neil Newbon, who recently won an award for best performance for his role as Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3. That's cool.
Oh fuck I forgot Neil was in this game! He did amazing!
Hearing Arin kind of harp on Neil is somehow so funny to me xD He would love him if they met, I'm sure
He was also Nicholai in RE3!
I hate (love) that he just sounds like American Astarion... he's everywhere
I just want them to play bg3 and get rejected by everyone somehow XDD
I hate how a huge chunk of this story will be driven by Chris waiting until the very end to tell Ethan something he could have just told him at the start after the house assault, and Ethan would have understood.
The number of hits Ethan takes in this game that would instantly kill a normal person is hilarious.
To be fair, they do at least acknowledge that in game.
Ethan: "Why didn't you fuckin' tell me right away?!"
Chris: "Because I knew that you'd want to be involved, and this job is hard enough without civilians getting in the way."
I'm not sure how okay I am with this answer though, considering it's pretty much just there to hand wave away a plot hole. But at least it isn't completely ignored, I guess.
I mean one of the game's marketing hooks was "Villain Chris" which they didn't actually have any intention of doing.
@@gamefreak762 but didn't they train Ethan when they moved his family?
@@rrenkrieg7988 They did, but even with training, Ethan is still a civilian. And I guess the idea is that Chris was thinking "if the public got wind that a civilian was told about classified stuff and died because of it, that would ruin our reputation" or something like that.
Though to be honest, at that point it's kinda starting to feel like I'm thinking about this too deeply. Both the line about military training and Chris' explanation for why he didn't tell Ethan right away feel VERY unimportant because they're "blink and you'll miss it" moments, ESPECIALLY the line about military training. So I think it's entirely possible that while writing one line for the game, they weren't necessarily considering the implications for the other one.
But at the end of the day, all of that is just speculation and it hardly matters for the story anyway. Even if Chris not telling Ethan right away is technically some HUGE plot hole, I feel like it can easily be ignored for the sake of just enjoying the game.
Its also worth noting that's exactly why Mia is upset in the flashback. They're talking about Rose's medical records and referencing that ETHAN might have something going on....
....lo and behold....there's a lot of medical concerns when you survive a R.E. game lol
The hag’s voice is almost exactly like Arin’s stereotypical creepy old person voice and it’s cracking me up
All I can hear is the "computer!" bit from family feud.
internt fathers, I beg thee, so deeply, so intensely, PLEASE MAKE THIS A FULL SERIES I WANT TO SEE YOU GUYS EXPERIENCE ALL OF THIS GAME SO BAD
Aron has already played through the game. Or at least until the magneto fight.
Internet fathers, I prithee now for a kiss. Nay, a smooch upon the cheek so as to seek the truth which might be found.
I assume that's what they're doing, as this is on a long series Saturday or whatever it's called. I think they also said that the next weekend game after Phoenix Wright would be a shorter one.
my brother-in-arms, it's INTERNET DADDIES. D-A-D-D-E-Y-E-S. learn your place, grundor
Thou must beg Mother Miranda
i am SO here for them to get their asses handed to them in this playthrough
Hehe hand
@@blakewhite3131 when im in a traumatic hand injury competition and my opponent is ethan winters
@@mavericked But none of those hand injuries were traumatic. The mold in him just healed him up like it was nothing. He stuck a severed hand back to his wrist and poured some alcohol on it and it healed up immediately.
@@maxellis3325aren’t the stitches still there?
Lol I'm to the point they got to the village and were attacked...they haven't picked up the shotgun.. I'm worried lol
For those unaware, Ethan and Mia are both from RE7. Ethan was who you played as in that one too. And like Dan said, Mia was the wife he went to look for. When they fight about "Louisiana" they are referring to the events of RE7.
They're talking around the 45 minute mark about maliciously naming things after people they don't like. Interestingly one of the theories for the origin of the phrase "Cup of Joe" for coffee is that the secretary of the navy, Joseph Daniels, banned alcohol on ship in the navy, leading to a lot of sailors drinking coffee since it was the strongest thing on the ship and calling it a cup of joe out of dissatisfaction for the Navy Secretary
Cant wait to see Dan's reaction to the whole Beneviento Manor.
I will be praying for him.
Let's get him set up with diapers ahead of time
ah c'mon how bad could it be in third person...? right...?
Beneviento Power Manors!
Danny saying "I like the doll" and i just know hes gonna hate that level the most 🤣😭
oh 100% that level is going to have him hiding behind the couch
I kinda I hope they do the dlc, that section is 100% worse with the mannequins.
@@chicabearI swear they looked at everyone's reaction to that section and intentionally made the dlc version of that section into pure nightmare fuel...
i hated that part, legitimately the most scary/unsettling part of this whole game. The DLC made that even WORSE, its crazy
cant wait for Arin to be way too into both Lady D and Heisenberg
he sure does love people who can and will murder him
It's too bad that Heisenberg's voice is so lame, just like Arin said :( This was my first time hearing his voice, and in my head, he'd always sounded so much more badass. (Still would, though, and I'm sure so would Arin.)
@@kiirosoleil tbh I really like his voice and I was kinda surprised that Arin was riffing on it so much, but to each their own Ig

Dan's comment about wishing the whole game was like the storybook sequence got me thinking... they've never played Little Nightmares on the channel, have they? Could make for a good Ghoul Grumps series!
Idk why I assumed the grumps had already played this. Lady Dimistrescu's big "step on me" energy is EXACTLY up Arin's alley.
They couldn't start until he finished gooning
They talked about her a bunch back when the internet was obsessed with her but yea never got around to actually playing it
I had to double check my calendar to make sure I didn’t sleep until October, this was a surprising game for them to play
Lol yeah. I was like “YES Ghoul Grumps is starting!” Then I realized it was the first of June 😅
Same with them doing the DLC today. I hope they have some good games saved for Halloween!
Oh hell yes, on a saturday too? Makes me hope this will be a long series and not a one off
They said they were gonna do a long series in between Danganronpa in July, I’d assume this is it
I'd love for that to be the case but this being recorded over a year ago dashes my hopes a bit
@@justin99000 wait huh how do you know that?
@RedDestruction540 dan said isn't this similar to a game we just played? And arin said yeah resident evil 4

They did reuse the pt house for their house in this
1:00:07 I don't know which is better, that Arin compared the relief of the demon to the painting "Saturn Devouring His Son" or the fact that he called it "Pluto Eating His Son"
52:30 "Damn someone's wearing what she wants to prom"
LMFAO good one
I remember getting to Luiza's and thinking, "Wow, what a colorful cast of characters. Can't wait to get to know them and share in this struggle and learn lore and do quests for them."
Next episode better just have an intro recap that just starts with Arin saying *"Last time on Resident Evil 8 ...something happened! And now, Resident Evil 8!"*
Arin: When did Chris get so badass?
Also Arin: [Chris] used to punch boulders until they explode.
Kinda answered his own question there.
Punching boulders into an active volcano is sooooo 2009
Except they were talking about Ethan. They call him Chris right after in the next scene
As a massive bg3 fan, it's super fun hearing Heisenberg and not being able to disconnect him from Astarion. Gotta love Neil.
Everytime I hear Heisenberg laugh I just see Astarion now
My favorite part of the game by far is when Ethan says "The Village's residents are so evil bro" Truly inspirational
The whole opening hits different after you've played through once.
You're like, "oh... OOOOOH! Oh, yeah. Okay."
Arin during the opening lycan attack: goes every direction EXCEPT where the shotgun is
Arin is the reason the yellow paint thing exists.
O no! A 9ft tall vampire lady! I hope she doesn't find me in my hiding place!
I like how Arin said Chris 'slimmed down.' He actually looks proportional now, unlike RE5, and those boulder punching arms.
8:10 No worries. There's DLC that gives her a shadow for $20
Underrated comment
Its so on brand that Arin missed the shotgun in the opening section entirely
Yep, and didn't spend even a second to scavenge for any ammo or loot. This playthrough is going to make my brain scream.
Haha yeah, I've already decided I won't be watching this playthrough for the gameplay, it'll just be for the banter and reactions 😅

Miscommunication/bad communication the opening! "Chris what the hell!" "Dude she wasn't really your wife, we gotta evacuate you and your daughter. I'll explain more once we're clear, cool?"
this trope is so outdated it hurts, like just make Ethan be in denial of the facts instead, it's so stupid to make Chris suddenly super stupid like he doesn't understand how people work anymore all of a sudden.
They should've just had Ethan get knocked out somehow after Mia gets shot. He'd wake up as the van is being attacked, so nobody has time to explain anything.

That's the grossest term ever
Ew
*Obama voice* Mmmmbig fuckin tits!
Fun fact: Toilets were called the Lou in the UK some odd years before water plumbing because shit would literally be thrown out into the streets. People, in their accent, would call out "look out below!" With Lou sounding like the way the low part in below would be pronounced. Lou would stick in the future in reference to this, as well as it having colloquially made its way abroad, oversees, and through the generalization of common speak. Some would also connect it to names like Lou, diminutive of Louis.
Supes close! :D
The language is slightly different but it's the exact right (gross) reason. :)
It came from France, "guardez l'eau" being shouted when people tossed chamber pot contents out the windows (look out for the water) and if you imagine Arin's best Brit accent saying "gardyloo" which then became "loo" that's where that came from.
We weren't even saying toilet to mean the actual toilet for ages, we took that incorrectly from France too. XD
The John is much simpler. The guy who is credited with the first flushing toilet was called John lol
Long story short, we Brits are really bad at taking words from other languages.. XD
Yeah no. These are both just fake etymologies. Internet urban legends if you will.

Spoiler ahead, I warn, even this late, because I am nice:
"She's not your wife!"
Four little words that could have spared so much confusion, prepared us to avoid at least one trap before the end, helped us find her ourselves, or at least not made you so hostile towards a person who is legitimately trying to help.
Honestly, the way these people keep diaries, and for as long as she was there, I'm surprised Ethan wasn't finding diary notes all over the place like, "The fool suspects nothing! Soon the child will be mine, and no one can stop me!"
Ethan: _".......HONEY?_ WHAT ARE THESE NOTES IN YOUR COOK BOOK?"
GLIBNESS IS RARELY YOUR FRIEND, CHRIS!
I love the fact that Karl Heisenberg (the magneto guy) is voiced by Neil Newbon, who also voiced Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3!
“Resident of Evil Creek” was actually coined by Judge Stephen Limbough when he presided over a case regarding free speech protections of video games. He ruled that they were not protected, but the decision was later successfully appealed.
Love how Arin's first instinct after staggering the first enemy was to run at him to perfect a Leon melee attack.
They may have forgot mostly everything about the RE games theyve played so far but they still remember that
I love Magnet Magneto. He has the same voice actor as Hot Vampireman in Baldur's Gate.
I thought that was Neil Newborn, but I don't recognize him now until after Astarion ha
love neil newbon sm but i felt like his performance was a little off in this one. i don't think any english voice actor can sound convincing putting on a fake american accent
@@quacksupreme I enjoyed Hugh Laurie’s performance in the show House. I had no idea he was British until I saw an interview with him.

The funny thing about Elana is that her voice actor does another character in this game, so she was there for a lot longer. She also voiced Jill Valentine in 3 remake. The voice actress is Nicole Tompkins and she streams on Twitch and has UA-cam where she posts the vods, she plays a lot of the Resident Evil and a couple other games where she has the voice actors on to talk. The best streams are with Maggie Roberts (Lady D) and Jeff Shine (Chris in this game and Carlos in 3 remake)
It's so cool to hear Neil's voice acting again!!! His roles as Heisenberg and Astarion are my favorites :D

Resident evil on game grumps usually turn out to be my favorite series. Not that i have any particular connection to the games, but Arin's love for it makes him so whimsical and fun. Please finish this game!
Magneto's voice is weird indeed, is the same actor as Kamski in Detroit Become Human, and more recently Astarion in Baldurs Gate 3. He has a very strange voice, but at the same time he's a great actor with a wide range to work with so we don't hear the person over the character so easily.
Honestly his voice sounds like a normal voice imo but I guess being a voice actor he needs that range
The voice is super intentional. Neil Newbon, the VA, was trying to invoke the trans-Atlantic accent which is the old time American accent. Honestly I think it was a great choice.
I love that Danny said he felt like he was watching Coraline with the intro because that’s exactly what it reminded me of too. Also it’s cool to know Danny likes Coraline
9:09 - "ciorba de legume" - it's the most generic name one could have for a "local recipe" ( it's romanian for "vegetables soup")

The way Arin "hinted" at it, I think we might be watching a series here...And I'm sorry... Genuinely, but my first joyful thought was, "Yes! Another game for Danny to chant Ew at and complain about!"
"What a weird voice." Excuse me! You are talking about award winning Neil Newbon, fabulous fashion icon and voice actor! You know? The voice and body of Astarion from Baldur's Gate 3! Humph!

I hope y’all end up playing first person, it was designed to be played that way and it’ll be a great experience
Cinematographic pet peeve time!
9:06 Lady brought the pot of soup near guy. Guy is like "yummy" and reaches for the pot of soup with his hand. Lady taps hand away with ladel with playful "not yet" kind of thing.
What was his plan if she didn't slap away his hand? Was he just going to dunk his hand into the pot of soup and lick soup off his hand? Is this something he does? No wonder she's ready to slap his hand with a ladle.
Well, it's a thing that some people do, they dip a finger in and have a taste of whatever's being cooked.
I've poked a finger into soup before to see how it tastes. Mind you it was my own I made. Don't go poking your finger into another mans soup guys.

Ugh for reals. It’s so off-putting tbh
I love it when they play horror games - because these are the games I never want to experience "On my own", so nothing is spoiled.
It is truly so on brand to play a hot game 3 years after it's release, so that everyone knows literally everything about the game, and play it in the most infuriating to watch way possible. Well done GG, well done.
One of the things about Ethan's hands always getting hurt in some way, is because the game is in first person, and hand injuries are the easiest to show that aren't in themselves lethal. you can impale a hand and it looks bad, but you can't impale a first person view chest without it being something REALLY bad or obscured
Please please please let this be a full series I NEED this so badly
Alright boys, we've seen you complete countless sonic games. This game isn't even that long. You've got this.

"I wish the game was just this." No kidding, they perfectly recreated that style and it's only for an opening. Fantastic game all around, but that opening is something special.

Arin reiterating the Resident of Evil creek story from their RE1 playthrough, Dan not remembering, and neither of them remembering their RE3 playthrough.
We're off to a great start.
Also it feels so weird to see this game in third person.
You know what the opening lycan survival segment really needs to pull the whole feel together? The Sonic Unleashed jazz band. All action-packed werewolf scenes could benefit from some high intensity jazz.
I like this - but I hope Arin manages to change back to first person perspective in the menu cuz just watching this it is painfully obvious it wasn't meant for third-perspective
