That's actually more accurate than you think, Danny. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was originally being developed for PC, Xbox One and PS4, but with only one year of Dev time left, SEGA suddenly told them that it was a Wii U exclusive. So they basically had one year to scramble together what they had in a brand new engine that had to be made from scratch. The result is as you know

@@neonblaze9177 Matt McMuscles did a great video about the development journey disaster of this game (search for "sonic boom what happened"). It's basically classic SEGA, in that they constantly aim for the worst business decisions possible that get in the way of development so much.
Most of the Sonic games have some sort of similar story. A good team of devs working hard, and then suddenly SEGA brings in the wrecking ball.
@@AshMenon its crazy how like... this sort of thing isnt uncommon in the industry as a whole. But like, SEGA seems determined to be the very best at this one, horrifically flawed aspect of the industry. To the point where no amount of apologism and devils advocacy could even begin to explain their decision making.
Sega would rush development to port this game to Wii U but take a literal decade to port the later Yakuza games and Persona 4 to PC.

@@CaptainSpycrab I mean, Sonic fans have proven that they'll gladly buy dog shit if Sega slaps the blue blur on it and calls it chocolate. Sega's ROI must be gigantic. All the profits of a competent game publisher, none of the effort.
Sega have not charged that much for a sonic game since, they’re afraid of the ravenous sonic fanbase

I absolutely regretted setting it as my text tone when I forgot to silence my phone it during a serious lecture in college. Never. Again.

I love how the vast majority of this was exposing glitches, telling how terrible the game is, and exploiting the Knuckles glitch.

I remember when this was the most hated redesign for sonic. At least this series got a pretty good television show. But man a lot of people were so naive to believe this was worst thing to come out of this franchise.
I never really hated any of the redesigns except for knuckles. Making him another "big, buff, and dumb" looking guy is really boring but the comedy his personality brings is great lol
I don't know what you're talking about. Sonic Boom was the last time Sonic was ever redesigned in a major way, and nobody has ever made another attempt to change the look of these characters ever since. I am 100% certain of this.

Gee, I sure do love how the guardian of the Master Emerald, the badass gem collector, the hotheaded counterpart of Sonic who went from enemy to ally to friend, just got turned into a dumb jock-- like a really dumb jock. Character development is truly amazing.

30:15 I believe what happened was that when they fell through the wall, instead of going to the loaded level, they went to the unloaded level, which in turn gave them the broken mess that it was. But when they went through the normal way, that little spike was the unloaded part loading, but when they fell through the ceiling they skipped the loading zone.
