My husband and I were always HUGE slowhand fans. My 3 kids know all his songs. When my husband died in an accident at the age of 36 in 2015, I couldnt enjoy Clapton for awhile, and I definitely could not listen to this song. I just knew that if I felt like I did losing my husband and father of my kids, he must have been even worse when he lost his boy. Slowly over time, I have been able to crank his tunes in my car the way we used to. Then i started to not skip tears in heaven when it would play, and I loved it. This is the first time I have heard this version, and wow...I fell the evolution of grief when I hear it different concerts. This version I can hear peace, healing, even a little bit of joy in remembering. I am so glad I didn't give up on slowhand. He is the best, no one can change my mind.
You're right, this version (a bit reggae) seems like a pic from further down the road he's had to walk with this trgedy on his shoulders. It, and he, seems a lot more uplifting than the original which to me was just pure grief finding an outlet. EC has gone through a lot in his life, I'm gad that outwardly at least he seems to have done a hell of a lot of healing. No doubt thanks to his wife and kids............

Y daughter overdosed on heroin and fentynol. I always reach for my music when pain is in my life. It helps me to ease the sorrow and helps me heal from the hurt. I always reach for Eric Clapton. The new arrangement of the song is even more touching. He is getting old, knowing he is closer to meet his beloved son again. The grief is fading but the love is still there. The tempo is lighter and faster, the grief is getting lighting chest by time. This is another level of heart wrenching.

It's such a sad beautiful song. I first heard it at a baby's funeral of a friend of mine. I have since lost an adult daughter of mine. I just love his voice and the empathy he extends.

My mom lost his son in a similar accident to Eric's son in the 90s, anytime she talks about it I become emotional, I cannot imagine how much pain she was in at the time.

Ino it probably has no contrast to many of the great people who have left their feelings and own emotions in the comments, but my partner left me and took my son with her, and it absolutely broke me in half, it was all my fault and caused the strongest person Ino to leave and break up our little family, I realised then that it was that or them. This song along with a few others helped me come to my senses and I made the decision to pull myself together and sort my problems out for good. She came back along with my beautiful son, and things have never been better. Sometimes you need to feel you have lost everything to realise wats important and wats needed to make you change. Thank god she came back, coz I love her and my son so so much. They are both the most important thing to me in the entire universe, and I’d never do anything to jeopardise that ever again. I learnt my lesson the hard way. I love them both eternally till the day I die.

We lost our son in 2021 and were told something very wise: “take it one Day at a time, you have the rest of your life to grieve, do not get anxious”.
We have been taking it slow and since we do not expect to heal fully, it has taking the anxiety away. We encourage you to become the best version of yourself and honor your lost ones for the rest of your life here on earth, knowing that God our lord will reunite us one Day with them, thanks to His Divine Mercy.
It's such a sad beautiful song. I first heard it at a baby's funeral of a friend of mine. I have since lost an adult daughter of mine. I just love his voice and the empathy he extends.

I first found Eric when he played with the Yardbitds. He is the greatest guitar player ever. But I have to say - I lost my 47 year old daughter to spinal fluid cancer on July 19, 2024. There is nothing quite like losing a child, no matter the age. There is nothing quite like listening to this song today.

Ino it probably has no contrast to many of the great people who have left their feelings and own emotions in the comments, but my partner left me and took my son with her, and it absolutely broke me in half, it was all my fault and caused the strongest person Ino to leave and break up our little family, I realised then that it was that or them. This song along with a few others helped me come to my senses and I made the decision to pull myself together and sort my problems out for good. She came back along with my beautiful son, and things have never been better. Sometimes you need to feel you have lost everything to realise wats important and wats needed to make you change. Thank god she came back, coz I love her and my son so so much. They are both the most important thing to me in the entire universe, and I’d never do anything to jeopardise that ever again. I learnt my lesson the hard way. I love them both eternally till the day I die.
