I have never used xtens before but I saw that they were going to be at the nailpro in Sacramento. I love how they have the ombré tip option, as ombré sometimes takes a long time to do.
Have been using Apres Gel-X system for a year and a half now and I absolutely can not live without it in my salon lol I'm super curious with the Xtens system French and omber tips, also the pink nude gel. The system looks like it will help shorten my appointment time a lot. Thanks for sharing the info
I'm starting nail school on September 3rd, so am very excited to try the Xtens kit. The Aprés has always intrigued me. I'm curious what about the Xtens system makes them suggest fills, yet Aprés suggests soak off?
@@PaolaPonceNails perfect! Looking forward to it! I would much rather fill than soak off, to reduce the stress on the natural nail from all the acetone, etc.
I've been using the Xtens nails with a different soak off builder gel with awesome results. My nails popped off with the Xtens gel but I'm at two weeks strong with leg builder gel in a bottle.
Thank You for this video! I just recently learned of xtens and was wondering about the differences between both brands, you answered all my questions except for one. I know the Apre's tips are made out of soft gel, what are Xtens tips made of? Soft gel or plastic, because you mentioned both in the video. I do Love the fact that Xtens is pretty roughened that will save so much time. I also like the crystal finger stand especially when applying the tips on yourself. ❤
I am soooo glad you asked this question. SO... calling the tip “soft gel” vs plastic, is almost a fraud statement. Gel is plastic, plastic is made of acrylic components. Every nail product I know, except Bio Sculpture Gel (I have a video on it in my “Reviews” Library), has acrylic ingredients to it, making them “plastic”. Gels whether soft or hard, ARE plastic. The “soft gel plastic” soaks off, the “hard gel plastic” does not. But think about it... when have you ever applied a plastic tip to the natural nail, that did not soak off? I have not known of one yet. So all tips, whether full coverage or just enough to extend, are SOFT GEL... AND wait for it... PLASTIC. No such thing as plastic vs soft gel tip. Now the manufacturer may be meaning to say they use the same “soft gel” to create their tips, but they are still soft gel plastic tips. The tip we attach to nails for “acrylic” nail applications and all other tip & overlay application is soft gel plastic. It is soft gel because it soaks off. Acrylic components are found in just about every nail product as acrylates or ending as a suffix -acrylate. (Even Gel Polish, and Regular Polish) Hope this helps. I am definitely not a chemist, but this is what I have known and been taught for years.
By the way Karen, this is not a rant against you! 💕 I have just been reading comments about this topic, so I thank you for the opp. to allow me to “get it off my chest”, if it will help your friends in the industry, pass it along. Lots of 💕
Paola, thank you for explaining it in a way that is easy to understand. So when the companies are pushing the phrase that their tips are made 100% of soft gel and plastic, is more of a marketing gimmick instead of fully explaining that mist of the tips are made out if essentially the same thing. When they say they are 100% gel and not plastic, they are not necessarily being truthful. I appreciate your honesty and explanation. ❤
@@PaolaPonceNails thank you so much or this detailed explanation and thank you to Karen for asking such a great question. Paola, why do my Apres nails not have a white streak when bent whereas my Markart, for example, show a white line when bent?
Great video!! I've been waiting for a comparison video to these two systems for a while. Have you tried to do a fill in on either system before? I've seen some people do fills on the apres nails and wondering your take on that.
Great video as always i use apres system i heard about xtenz at recent nail show only thing i wish is that apres pre roughened their tips so great job xtenz on that
Hi Paola, Thank you for this video. I have the Apres system and I’m looking for other tips to use. Are the Xtens tips made of plastic or soft gel? Why I like the Apres is because they are made of the soft gel and soak off, does Xtens work the same way? I thought I heard you say they were plastic so I wanted to check and didn’t think it would hurt to ask. Have a lovely day.
I have never seen this before what a fantastic system to work with soft gel. :D thank you so much for the education as always. Your videos have been helping me so much during school as no one but me works with japanese potted gel.
I have been doing gel nails since 1984 & I have seen products come and I have seen products go. But I've never heard of Japanese nails. They're always coming out with something new and that is definitely a new product to stump me again! 🤔 I will have to look that up because I am as curious as a cat.

So which system did you prefer? I have had xtens for a while now. I tried it because it was cheaper and was wondering if I'm missing out by not getting apres?
I think personally, because I am used to working w/ Apres I would say Apres. BUT, once I worked with the no-sanding tips with Xtens it was annoying to have to sand the bits w/ Apres. So I’m almost thinking, Apres system w/ Xtens tips. But I would not say you are missing out by having bought Xtens, unless you need a variety of long and sculpted tips. All these systems do, is help you at fast extensions by pressing tips on with gel. Both systems accomplish this goal.
Hi! I have never heard about Xtens before so interesting comparison. Apres gel x system have tips made of soft gel, not plastic as you where saying in your video(16:45 sec into the video). This is so important for me whith this system and definitely one of the advantages with Apres! I dont know about the Xtens, are they plastic?
@@PaolaPonceNails I saw your answer. But when you use the term "plastic" tips we will think of the plastic tips we use to glue on istead of sculpting extentions. I’ve encountered a lot of plastic tips that will not slough off under acetone the way these Apres tips soak off. Not to mention the glue to apply the plastic tips. It always ends off being more filing than soaking. I do believe it’s a soft gel if not, a softer plastic? Love the Apres system.
I wouldn't use full well but I do use full cover nail tips and I use gelish structure gel to adhere them and then I apply either 2 layers of the structure gel on top OR I go in with my dip powder on top.
The regular full cover tips are plastic not gel so you definitely need to do the 2 coats of structure gel on top of the tips. Structure gel is similar to builder gel, which will work the same.
Oh wow I always been using exclusive nail Couture I love them I have try Polly gel and it was a no go 4 me lol I like that xtens with the pre buffed nail
Great video! I use the Xtens System, wonderful product. Did you know they offer two types of Clear B? They do have one that is a thicker viscosity, if you're more comfortable with that. I have a different technique for applying the xtension, using the crystal finger stand for the clients finger, and never have issues with bubbles whether I use the thinner B, or the thicker one. I believe that Xtens has an application video on youtube as well ;)
