Just got the DJI Mic2 today, but had this video bookmarked for when it arrived. Followed your tutorial, all went very smoothly. Thanks so much!
that’s crazy, i always agreed that the raw sound was arguably worse than the first generation. glad to hear they e done something about it
That's a pretty significant difference in sound quality for sure!
Definitely helps make the built in mic sound a lot cleaner and less muddy for sure
Will definitely update my DJI Mic 2 system
Great video!
It feels like I have a brand new mic. This firmware update did some wizardry. Sound before was very soft and less bass but now it is so crisp and sharp that it doesn't feel like it needs heavy post work.
If this firmware update had come out sooner, I wonder if I’d have gone with the DJI Mic 2 instead of the Rode Wireless Pro (which I think is the best in its product category by a long shot). The Mic 2 was, to me, a great example of how a lot of videographers overprioritize features over simple sound quality.
I found the same issues with the DJI mic 2. The 400 to 600 region was making it sound muddy so I always cut that. Going to update today.
Great video and work, thank you for us users of this device this was useful and insightfull
That was the reason why I returned the DJI Mic 2 and got the Rode Wireless Microphone Pro instead. But now the sound of the DJI is much better as far as I can tell from this video. I might get one. Thanks for letting us know about the latest updates.
Thinking about doing what you did…in your opinion, should I just stick with the DJI?
@@ForbiddenWellness yes you should!
I just got my DJI MIC TODAY! Oct 22,2024
I was kind off upset with the quality right out the box with some setting arrangements… but I’m so happy this video appeared! Thank you so much on informing us with the firmware update, the sound quality is noticeably improved 🙏🏽
How is the quality now?
@@ValasResearch in my opinion it is a lot better! I’m still learning the mics but it sounds way better then when I first tried it! I wouldn’t hesitate on getting it if you’ve thought about it
@@aztxc95 grazie mate i appreciate for your answer.
Thanks for the video guide, it made it painless and i’m very impressed with the update.
Great video! Updated my mic and looking forward to getting the boost in quality. So awesome that our devices get better over time!
Good news! I just got the DJI Mic 2 and I am pleased with it. So this update is another reason not to regret my purchase. I am using Rode Lavalier 2 with them, which already made the decision easier before the update.
just updated my 2TX kit and standalone one, very happy with the enhancement, very enjoyable for the next podcast :)
Hi I just bought mic 2 dji stand alone. No reciever.
Want to use it with s23 samsung. Is the only way to connect it. I'd with pro video via Bluetooth.
I cannot use the dji mic 2 by it self with the mail camera app??
Even with the use of USB c to usb c cable
Nice video! I'm considering the Mic 2 myself, so it's good to know they made it sound better 'out of the box'.
Do you also have a video on the post processing you do with the sound that makes it sound so good?
Could not find it, but your EQ-ed version clearly sounds better than the one DJI did :)
Just bought the Mic2 today 2-4-25 and followed the instructions step by step. The update failed multiple times on both the receiver and transmitters. I also have the pocket 3 creator combo and the Mic2 that was supplied with it updated with no issues.
That is a huge difference, thanks for that
Much clearer, much richer, preamps act way better. Nice DJI
You can also do the firmware update using only your phone and you can even transfer the 32-bit internal float recording and using mobile capcut. Here is a link to the video. I can help you do that if you're interested!
ua-cam.com/video/6svBk4remN0/v-deo.html
that is really some good change. bought it yesterday.
Thank you for this heads-up. I updated all four of mine and they seem to sound better. A subtle but welcome difference.
How would you say this stacks up to the Rode Wireless Pro now that they have these updates? I'm in between the two. Thanks.
Helpful tip: If your transmitters aren't blinking after ejecting and disconnecting the USB signifying the update, check your receiver to make sure you didn't disable the lights on the transmitters.
It sounds much richer now :)
yay i just updated mine. Thank you man
Curious, if you initially had the low-cut filter still on when you were first using the mic before the firmware update? Apparently, the low-cut filter was on by default and that was proving to be a sound issue.
The low cut filter was not on.
Wow they sound so good!
Great Video! easy to follow along!
There seemed to be a noticeable between the updated transmitter and the update going into the camera. Can you offer a simple explanation or do you have a video on the topic?
There will be a difference between the internal recording in the transmitter and the in-camera audio with pretty much any camera, because the in-camera audio is running the signal through the camera's preamp and analog to digital converter. Camera audio hardware is generally not the greatest - the budget goes into the imaging hardware, not the audio hardware. Some cameras are better than others, for example the sound quality of the audio input on my Lumix S5II is better than my Sony FX30. That's one reason I like the built-in recording in wireless mic transmitters, it allows me to have an audio file that is unaffected by the camera's audio hardware.
@@semiprotech Thank you for passing on that knowledge.
so...is the DJI now a better, simpler option to the RODE? I use Sennheiser G3 mics for weddings but I would like a mic kit that also records internally. Which Lavalier would work best with the DJI mic 2? Thanks
still sounds muffled 🤧
Thank you 😊
yes updated my set up do I hear the diff, not really, DJI best work on an App. EQ settings that we have no control of, do we?
Studio quality puncy voice after the firmware update. Thanks mate for this. I was surprised after buying DJI Mic 2 that why it is not sounding good.
What are the settings that you use on receiver
After instalation I can't link receiver and transmiters, do you know why?
I'm a bit confused. You keep mentioning sound to the built in microphone.
Is this update dealing with the internal recording to the transmitter or audio to the receiver?
I personally had no issues with the sound to the receiver before. It had a lot better bottom end than the mic 1 or rode.
I have done the update anyway but haven't had a chance to use it yet.
Solid information spread
Does Sound notably Better after the update. Did however find the sound notably better on the original firmware than when I recording sound on my iPhone. I wonder if the firmware upgrade will improve the sound when using Bluetooth as my USB C port is used buy an external SSD and I thus can’t use the receiver. I will be doing the upgrade today
Has this update fixed the audio drifting on long lengths of audio recordings?
An other helpful video of yours 👌
holy shit way better
That’s pretty big difference !
Great Video!
Hmmm - Did exactly what you said - I don't get a red light. Why can't they do it through the phone app like everything else? Hugely frustrating.
I KNEW IT, i reported this mic as sounding faulty on another channel and i felt like an a-hole because i was the only seemingly who thought it sounded off. I guess I was right all along.
Indeed you were! I did not care for the sound at all before this update.
Such a better sound, thanks
When comparing with the rode pro, you said you have to pick rode due to the sound quality, does this change your mind or is rode still better?
Yes after the firmware update the sound is much more comparable to the Rode Wireless Pro, so that's no longer a big difference between them. And I still like the direct connection that the Mic 2 has with the DJI Pocket 3 and Action 4 cameras. But I personally still do like the Wireless Pro better overall though, for the following reasons:
1. The wireless pro transmitters have threads for locking connector lav mics. The lav mics I use all have locking connectors so this is important to me.
2. The Wireless Pro has greater storage capacity in the transmitter for more recording time: 32GB vs 8GB in the DJI Mic 2.
3. The charging case of the wireless pro also has a data connection over the USB -C port so you can pull the recordings from both transmitters onto your computer over a single connection, and update the firmware for all 3 devices at the same time. The DJI Mic 2 requires you to separately connect each of the parts to your computer for transferring files or updating the firmware.
4. The mount on the DJI Mic 2 receiver does not work well with cold shoe mounts - it doesn't supply any of its own tension. It works ok in the hot shoe of a camera but in a cold shoe mount it just falls out...this is not a problem with the wireless pro. This is not a problem if you have the multi-interface shoe adapter from DJI for Sony cameras.
@@semiprotech thanks, the points you bring are solid. Really appreciate the reply and always love your reviews.
Did the firmware fix the auto on and off with the Sony multi-interface shoe?
Thanks for sharing! I wish I could make this up, but I currently own two DJI MIC 2 receivers "RX", One receiver was defective and covered under the OEM warranty, it would not recognize the 3.5mm audio cable when attaching to the designated port, resulting to no audio or as we both know LOST AUDIO!!! Here's the question I have for DJI, the RX I shipped via UPS over to the "Lone Star State" had the firmware version "04.04.05.13" the firmware version currently installed in my replacement "RX" is "04.02.01.13"??? Yes, I understand this can easily be updated but if DJI has announced the 1st firmware update for this product, that I'm aware of, how is there 2 different version out there on the market. By the way I purchased the microphones 60 days apart.
Very good
is anyone else getting a clicking noise during some recordings? also what settings do you have the receiver/transmitter gain on?
The update on the Receiver takes considerably longer than the Transmitters, be patient folks!
I'm in doubt between the DJI MIC 2 and the RODE WIRELESS GO II. In terms of functionality, the DJI MIC 2 is definitely better. But in terms of audio quality, which do you consider better between the two?
Can the Mic 2 system be used on video calls on WhatsApp, Fb Messneger, etc if I plug in the Receiver into my phone's usb-c port?
my light doesnt blink just solid blue the version i have is 04.04.0611 so I know its not the new one
Hi, recently I bought a DJI Mic 2 and I'm very disappointed because the only way to make the standalone recordings usable is to set the TX gain to +12dB, but they still have to be boosted a lot in post.
I turned off the Low pass filter, I tried 32 and 24 bits, I tried everything but the records are still very quiet when I put the TX on my chest.
Is it normal ? Does somoene managed to records something on a dji mic 2 without having to drastically boost in post ?
my PC will not recognize my device....how do i fix this?!!!
Much better
Can we update only 1 transmiter (without reciever)?
Yes! The firmware file is separate for the transmitter so you can install the update without the receiver.
@@semiprotech Thank you on the fast replay!
What do you mean ”In Post”?
"in post" is shorthand for "post production", referring to processing being done after the recording
Can a single transmitter record 32bit float yet? (without activating it first with the receiver)
Yes, you can power on a transmitter and record without being connected to a receiver.
@@semiprotechSo 32 bit is enabled on the transmitter without the receiver?
@@agambhasin No - good clarification. The transmitters work as a standalone recorder but you cannot change any of the settings without connecting to a DJI device, either the receiver, a Pocket 3 or Action 4/5 camera. This includes turning on 32 bit float and the high pass filter. So if you only have a transmitter, it still works via bluetooth and as a standalone recorder but it will be in 24-bit mode. I have not seen any settings/controls for the transmitter in the DJI Mimo app to date.
@semiprotech Thanks mate! I just ordered 1Tx 1Rx after watching your video that the quality has improved after the update I am hoping it just works. Also this is actually a very worse strategy by Dji to restrict functionality and literally force people to buy the receivers👎🏻 it's extortion actually
@@agambhasinthe new dji mic mini can change setting in dji mimo
but mic2 can,t.........
I added the file the receiver, ejected the drive, but no update process starts on the receiver. When I reconnect the receiver to try again the bin file is gone. I've tried the process multiple times without success.
I'm in the exact same situation, where I follow all the instructions for both the RX and TX and when I eject the drive, no update happens and plugging them back in shows an empty drive. Has anyone had any luck working through this?
It turns out my dji mic already had the latest firmware so the update did not have to start.
@@ONE_stepatatime Ah thanks for explaining. I'm on v04.02.01.13 and trying to go to v04.05.01.11. Is it possible that the versions are too close to update? I assume not.
Wow you would not believe what the issue actually was... I finally got it to work and it turns out that my Mac was automatically renaming the files from "dji_wirelessmic2_tx_v04.05.01.11" to "DJI Wireless Mic 2 v04.05.01.11" which don't trigger the auto updating. I just had to copy paste and replace the file names back. Sharing this here in case anyone else runs into the same issues.
so yeah what they must have done is allow higher freqyuences cos now you hear your S sounds
Somebody knows How to enable Bluetooth in mic2 with samsung phone. Mine doesn't work ????
If anyone can answer this. I have the DJI 1 mic. It sounds amazing… I just got the osmo 3 and it came with the MIC 2. To be honest I was going to use my mic 1 with the osmo because it sounds better. Does anyone know if Dji updates the mics before they send them out after an update? Meaning do I have to do this update for the mic 2 in the video abover? Or does the osmo update update the mic with it?
It’s weird not having a transmitter come with the osmo.
I would not assume that the Mic 2 transmitter has the latest firmware. You can see the firmware version on your Pocket 3 by going to the settings menu. Make sure the Mic 2 transmitter is connected to the Pocket 3, then swipe down on the screen and select the bottom left settings option. Select the "Wireless Mic" option in that menu and scroll all the way to the bottom. The Tx firmware version is listed there. The latest firmware version as of 8/9/24 is 04.05.01.11. If it's not that version, you can update it manually. You cannot currently update the firmware through the Pocket 3, you need to follow the DJI instructions to download the BIN file and place it on the receiver's internal storage like I showed in this video. Hope that helps!
@@semiprotech thank you!
@@michaelradin The DJI MIC v1 will not work with the OSMO Pocket 3, as only the MIC 2 has the Bluetooth support.
"I don't know why the built in microphone on these transmitters didn't sound this way immediately as soon as they released this product". That's the same question I'm asking myself. I've hated the audio coming out of these microphones when they were released, they sounded like cheap $10 microphones, why they couldn't do this from the start idk.
what did you double click on macbook pro to open the white box? as your editing has chopped off the top of the box and the explainer is meaningless
Better of just getting the Rode Wireless Pro.
Sounds the same
Put in headphones… I’m guessing you’re listening through your phone speakers lol
Just completed this firmware update. The sound is for sure much better, but it sill records internally at an incredibly low volume that has to be tuned up in post editing. The volume is good enough only when putting the mic directly in front of the moth, which is not what I want.
thank you!
