Sounds MUCH better. Less muffled but the high end is not overdone. I haven't been using my DJI Mic 2 lately because it sounded so bad. Might have to do a similar test of my own! Great to see one of your vids Wayne - haven't seen you in awhile. Hope all is well!

Opinion of a 25+ year audio engineer who added video production to my "skillset" around 2014:
For full control of an edit, just like filming in LOG, the audio guys/gals want the unaffected, un-eq'ed sound of a microphone captured for full control in the edit (EQ, compression, etc).
BUT...but but but....we live in an increasingly run-n-gun world of content creation...so DJI upgrading the internal sound of their 2nd gen mics is VERY welcome in that regard. It's like using a "destructive" or "baked-in" preset, color profile, or LUT on your video that you know looks good for quick turnaround/upload to socials.
My only question is (happy gen 1 owner), can you select the new "enhanced" EQ preset for quick edits along with a "flat" preset for more involved edits?

I just found your video this afternoon and in the evening I made my updates.
And you are right: this is such a huge improvement.
It sounded flat before but with the update we have a better bass and also more transparent hights.
For quick recordings without much editing I always went back to my Sennheiser microphones.
But now I can easily stay with DJI MIC 2; this makes life so much more easy.

not a huge difference but it does sound a bit better, I would like to hear a comparison between the new updated DJI Mic 2 and the Rode
I got my first dji wireless 2 mic with the pocket 3, the second mic i purchased separately with the receiver. They did sound different until i did the last up to both of them, the newest update you did sounds clearer. I’ll do my update today.

Wayne i'm a DJI fanboy and i have to admit.. I hated how the DJI Mic 2 sounded compared to My Original DJI MIC.. especially when plugged into my Macbook pro using Quicktime Audio Recorder to Test Just basic Audio Recordings... OG DJI MIC sounded LOUDER and WAY BETTER on any setting.
i sent back my DJI Mic 2 extremely upset...
Then i purchased THE DJI POCKET 3 creator bundle with the MIC 2... hardly ever used the MIC 2
just The Pocket 3 for recording video and the audio sounded extremely good.
I'm thinking about eventually re-ordering DJI MIC 2 System again someday...

Sounds way better! It was a huge downside to me that the built in mic just didn’t sound good because it also didn’t respond that well to EQ in post for me. I’ll have to test it out with the update now and maybe use them a bit more.

Whats the sample audio you are using - is it the internal recording 32bit or the action 4 baked in audio?
I don’t even use the noise canceling feature in my audio, and I think the mic 2 does a great job of catching audio. Im in wind with engine & wave noise. I’ll see how the update does but happy either way. Just not with their mic attachment for the x4 insta camera, waiting on my 3rd party attachment

I've had enough problems with OA4 and the wireless mic connecting to the camera that I have switched to fully wired motovlogging setup for the very first time ever on my channel. The problems do not occur often but when you record as much content as me it's annoying even if it happens every 50'th time when I start recording. The lag connecting the mic when quickstarting a recording has also meant that I need to keep the camera on all the time while I do my videos. While traveling this is very annoying and runs through batteries like crazy.

the sound quality is actually incredible tbh.
I posted on the dji forum in a post called: "DJI Mic 2 Frequency Response Improvement" on 02/02/24. I showed graphs and the PEQ settings that would improve the sound. I wonder if they listened to that feedback. I'm going to remeasure again to get a before/after measurement.
I just measured the difference and they made noticeable changes. They didn't make the mic response flat/accurate, but they did add about 4dB, with the rise starting at 300Hz and flattening out around 100Hz. On the upper frequencies, they raised the treble response about 3dB, with the rise starting at 2kHz and flattening around 5kHz.

Sounds like they boosted the bass. On professional lavs they tend to be more flat because mic on the chest sound more bassy and if concealed under clothing more so. But since the most common way is with the receiver on the outside of the shirt and type of users probably aren't going to eq their audio it makes sense for DJI to do this. Note outdoors bass boost could increase wind or handling noise.

IIRC one of your Mic 2 transmitters was poor while the other one was fine. My question would be how does update affect the transmitters that were perfectly fine?

Unfortunately, I notice sometimes sound plops on my DJI Mic 2. Sometimes it sounds like stumble. Have you ever had such issues in your tests?

Quick question: do you still prefer the Zoom F3 with the external XLR mic, for solo content editor over the current systems, given the current new systems and mics (including this DJI Mic 2) ?
I guess that's why I got mine second hand on ebay, kind of cheap. I'm sure that update will increase the value second hand

does this apply to the Mic 2 that came with the osmo pocket 3? when i look on DJI support site, they list the TX and RX firmware updates for the stand alone MIc2 kit but when i go to Pocket 3, it shows a firmware update for Mic 2 TX that was release back in May 15.
would it be ok to update the Mic 2 that came with the creator combo with this latest update even thought you cant update the Osmo pocket 3 RX side?
They did a great job with that update, I just updated mine and I love improved sound.
This is great news. I've been trying to EQ mine all week trying to get it to sound more natural, but with no luck. This sounds like it will help!
I actually stopped using it cos it sounded poor compared to my RodeGo, but with this new update I will go update and give it a retry
My biggest problem is that the sound is so LOW when I record in to the mic
What was the old firmware version? was it 04.02.01.13?
A boost of the higher frequencies seems to have been implemented on the Mic 2. As people pass 40 years old (sometimes sooner) they begin to lose sensitivity to higher frequencies. This is particularly true when you are exposed to loud sounds on a regular basis. I am 73 years old, and if I have to use headphones, I adjust the volume so they are as quiet as possible. I have invested in decent quality ear defenders for use at concerts. My high frequency sensitivity is still pretty good, so I can clearly hear what DJI have done. Look after your hearing. Dial down the music in your car !
I thought the sound of the DJI Mic 1 and LarkMax was better than the DJI Mic 2, I think they should now be on the same level.
The Mic 2's audio lacked a bit of treble, making it a bit muddy.
Can a single transmitter record 32bit float yet? (without activating it first with the receiver)
@@dutchminer247 Unfortunately afaik the 32-bit float setting is still stuck behind the RX or Action 4/5, Pocket 3 menu system.

Download firmware to your computer, plug Mic 2 into your computer via USC-C cable, it should appear as a drive. Drag and drop the firmware to the Mic 2 'drive' location. Unplug the Mic 2 and power it on. Firmware will install automatically. If you want to check that it installed, plug the Mic 2 back into your computer and you'll see that the firmware file is gone from the Mic 2 'drive' location.
Hmmm, it now sounds way better... I will stick to my Rode Wireless Pro though :)
