Big Dust offered up his innocence daddy. Where is the passion today, there is no passion. Just now watching this I want to see Dusty and Ole kick the Assassins asses.
I'm truly gonna miss the greatest wrestler to EVER interview on the mic. No one could or can compare to this Soul brother #1 when it came to handlin' his biznizz on the mic! Rest in peace my friend and thanks for all the wonderful memories American Dream...aka Midnight Rider
He also used it in a promo against either Dick Murdoch or Dick Slater. I also remember him saying in another interview that he had danced the light fandango and done cartwheels across the floor.
+Dewayne White oh yeah. I remember seeing an event of undercard guys at Hapeville High School gym one Saturday afternoon. Lots of wrestlers lived in Hapeville back then.
The thing to keep in mind is that Ole and Dusty had already been feuding on and off for years before this happened. What happened in 1980 was just like gas on a fire in terms of pushing the feud to a really high level. And it kept on going. Ole was still talking about putting Rhodes out of wrestling in 1985 which eventually fell together into the four horsemen getting together.
And of course, led to Flair turning on Dusty in '85 with Arn and, you guessed it, Ole joining in. As you could assume, all hell broke loose in the Omni (again) with fans storming the ringside area, the cops needing to help them out of the cage to keep from getting killed, et al...
The beginning of the big turn. What an angle, what great action in and out of the ring, and what amazing promos from Ole and Dusty that will follow. What an amazing time to be a wrestling fan. YellowDogExpress1, thank you for sharing.
It was. This led up to the first fight with them and the Assassins at the Omni. It was the follow up match a few weeks later with them in the cage (with Gene Anderson and Ivan Koloff as referees no less) that all hell broke loose with Ole turning back heel. As a kid, that was a little scary because both my uncle and cousin stormed the ringside area with hundreds of others and almost got arrested...
FLAIR, SUPERSTAR GRAHAM, LOU ALBANO, CM PUNK, THE ROCK, STONE COLD, ARN ANDERSON, EVEN CENA IS GOOD ON THE MIC..WHO IS THE BEST IS JUST SUBJECTIVE, HELL WE CAN'T FORGET BIG MOUTH JIM CORNETTE EITHER OR THE GREAT PAUL HEYMAN AS WELL..BUT DUSTY WAS ALWAYS MY FAVORITE :)
I am going to keep it in the 80s OLE ANDERSON, ASSASSIN 1, ERNIE LADD, VID RUE, MIDNIGHT RIDER, BILL WATTS, KEVIN SULLIVAN, NICK BOCKWINKE, BOBBY HEENAN, ARN ANDERSON, DAVID VONERICH, BUDDY ROSE, BUDDY ROGERS, BUDDY LANDELL, SUPERSTAR BILL DUNDEE, JERRY LAWLER, THE MASKED SUPERSTAR, IVAN KOLOFF, LARRY ZYBISCO, JJ DILLON, VALIANTS, GRAHAMS, FREEBIRDS, STAN HANSEN,
The best promo ever. DUSTY WAS THE BEST. Ole was also the best because he was believable. Years later I met Ole. HE IS THE MAN! The stories he told belong in a VAULT. Met him later in life and still strong as a bill.
"Dusty, I don't know what to say." This from the smoothest guy on the mic this side of Johnny Carson. Greatest Promo Cutter ever and Dusty Rhodes (and Ole Anderson) in an absolute classic. The uncommon denominator in all the great promos by these experts? The late great Mr. Gordon Solie who sold all the tumultuous action dead solid perfectly!🎤🔔x10😔B.W.
The glorious days of kayfabe, when we knew wrestling was "choreographed" but they could still make us believe they genuinely hated each other, really injured each other, and really valued titles and wins.
And the lo-fi local cable production values figured into it's appeal for me. It was like finding a version of Fight Club while flipping through channels. Just can't hack Vince's gladiatorial spectacles these days, frickin' Las Vegas bs.
"I offered up my innonence" This was sooooooo gooooood!!! The Big Turn. Say what you will about Ole but Rock(the 1st & original) was a top notch booker. When WRESTLING (NOT sports entertainment BULLSHIT) was king.

Dusty Rhodes sets up Ole Anderson by begging him to be his tag team partner. Is Ole a fool for believing Dusty empty promises, or is he crazy like fox?
+tony maschak Ole WAS great no doubt about it. I grew up watching him! He started having medical issues that was hindering him and finally forced him out of the ring.
Dayum!!! I remember this shyt. It was too real. Dusty and Ole the dream team.. NOT! Ole played Dusty like Nintendo 64. WWE could never duplicate a storyline like that. I miss the good old wrasslin shyt. Peace.
What Dusty didn't realize was he made the biggest mistake of his life by persuading Ole to side with him. "It was at this moment Dusty knew, he f*cked up".
Dusty and Ole did such a great job at selling the match, I just called the Omni to get my ticket. Still waiting on the line.
Spoiler: Cena Wins
Lol !! 😆 Too late..... I just got the last one ! I'm heading for the Time Machine NOW !! 🛸
@Java Flav Lol !! You got it baby ! 👍🏽
Told me it was sold out
@@davidleroyemmons I'm still waiting.
The build to the Big Turn of 1980 began here. Probably the greatest angle in the history of Georgia.
Maybe all of wrestling
Actually the build started a year earlier when Ole turned face. That kind of long term booking doesn't exist anymore.
One of the best talkers ever...and Gordon's concern/ seriousness is classic
I can listen to Ole Anderson promos all day. One of the all time greats on the mic.
The art of promotion masterfully executed to perfection.
MJ is overrated... Bill Russell would block MJ dunk and force him to shoot jump shots.
One of the greatest back stabbing and heal turns in my opinion.
Heel*
Big Dust offered up his innocence daddy. Where is the passion today, there is no passion. Just now watching this I want to see Dusty and Ole kick the Assassins asses.
Great stuff. Soon, the big turn of 1980 would happen when Ole turned on Dusty. Classic.
This was such a great story. They both had everyone hook, line and sinker.
That is how you put asses in seats. A very lost art in today's wrestling.
Big Dust. " The Bull of the woods" if you will.
Ive toured all around the world, from memphis to mobile, and all points in between...
Dusty looks pretty trim here. Another great promo from the great man.
Out of shape in shape guy
He was working in NYC for Vince Sr. around this time as well so he had to look good for the MSG crowd.
Around that time that slim fast diet plan came on the market
I wonder who's ideas it was to put these two together and then have Ole turn on Dusty. Great promo. Nothing is even close to this today. Pure genious.
Robert bishop clearly it's was both of them they were the Booker's then
Dusty was not the booker then, moron.

William Scott he sure was saw dusty in the 70s when I was a kid in west palm beach great wrestler and comical to good ol days
Damnit Dusty was Not the Midnight Rider. He said he wasn't! 😁
Dusty delivered the greatest promos
2 wrestling legends rip gordon and dusty
"Offered up my innonence"
"I'll pay ya' back in scorn..."
Dusty used the same kind of line 20 something years later in a promo with his son, Dustin.
Roosevelt Freeman Used the same line again at Summerslam 1990 when Sapphire went with Ted Dibiase.
He also used it in a promo against either Dick Murdoch or Dick Slater. I also remember him saying in another interview that he had danced the light fandango and done cartwheels across the floor.
Its a Bob Dylan lyric. Dusty used it a bunch of times.
I'll never forget the omni lots of blood spilled in that place
I went to the shows in Atlanta at the Municipal Auditorium and the Omni. Great memories at both.
Chowchilla Charlie yeah man they turned it out every big event they had here in the Atlanta area
Chowchilla Charlie and for them to make extra money they wrestled in school gymnasiums every weekend
+Dewayne White oh yeah. I remember seeing an event of undercard guys at Hapeville High School gym one Saturday afternoon. Lots of wrestlers lived in Hapeville back then.

Dusty was so great on the mic,and had overwhelming charisma that who ever followed him was in trouble, how can you follow up on the American Dream?
Uncle Quack let me tell you something, brother! Just like that
Only if you're Arn Anderson, and that's a HUGE maybe.
Pure genious on the part of ole and Dusty.
Love them both. Such fond memories.
Putting asses in seats.
Now that is fucking HEAT. How you draw ASSES to seats. WWEDisney could not do that TODAY. Not even with Stone Cold.
Rhodes, Flair, Hogan, Piper, The Rock, and Austin had the best mic skills.
MrNYCman530 I like Gary Hart, Bobby the brain Henan, and the road warriors also on the mic.
Cornette
Macho Man was the best character on the mic. No more questions!
Macho and Bitch Reed
Arn Anderson had great mic skills too.
Dusty used some of this same material twelve years (?) later when he did that angle with Dustin.
"The Dream" was a genius of the interview!
Dusty had to have spray painted to pants on ;-)
😅😅
Dusty quotes Dylan. Awesome.
The glorious days of kayfabe, when we knew wrestling was "choreographed" but they could still make us believe they genuinely hated each other, really injured each other, and really valued titles and wins.
They did hate each other, watch oles interview recently on dusty they didn't get along well

Today it sucks.Dusty and the old school wrestlers were great. The WWE is boring and lame period.

That was the point lol.
Rip Dusty
This promo is better then wwe matches
Rest In Peace Ole Anderson , Dusty Rhodes and Gordon Solie
I like his hat.
Here's what I've always thought.
What if Dusty had turned on Ole here. He wouldve been elevated to one of the greatest heels of all time in one swoop.
Too many legends in one video
Nobody cuts an interview like Dream
@Java Flav Superstar Billy Graham was just as good, even Dusty himself admitted that on Billy's WWE documentary.
Ole was always a great talker too.
Gotta love the subtitles that say Korea instead of career…that Dusty lispy twang is the thang
King of promos isl the nature boy slick Rick .woooooo!
the beginning of the trap for dusty Rhodes!...& you can better believe that jack!
wow! I remember this well
Once you see Dusty as a culture culture you can’t unsee it.
This promo is so good *I* would to go to see the match TODAY and I KNOW it happened almost 40 years ago...
Does anyone have the follow up match between Dusty and Ole?
Here from Jim Cornette podcast where Brian Last has mentioned this a few times now in relation to Cody.
Dusty Rhodes sets up Ole Anderson by begging him to be his tag team partner. Is Ole a fool for believing Dusty empty promises, or is he crazy like fox?
Dirty Rhodes is a empty , stole his gimmick from Rufus R Jones
@@santosjerez1586 No, he stole it from Thunderbolt Patterson
@@RayNDeere and Superstar Graham
Big Dust. Best talker ever.
RIP in Dusty!
The American Dream Dusty Rhodes my favorite since 1974
Did Big Dust just said "jumped on my ass" they censored it too
ole was great b4 the horseman than he was just a shadow of his former self
+tony maschak Ole WAS great no doubt about it. I grew up watching him! He started having medical issues that was hindering him and finally forced him out of the ring.
he and gene anderson aka the Minnesota wrecking crew was awesome as a tag team
+Norm. Panganiban Ole and Gene were tough as they came.
Was there a better angle than this one??? What a swerve.....
Vince can't book anything today as good as this was back then.
It was an angle and a work.i hate that word swerve , that's what that idiot Russo called it. The biggest moron in the business ever.
Best promo guys of all time-Dusty, Flair, Jake the Snake, Ole.
When Ole said something you sure as hell believed it.
The American dream years, yes dusty you will b missed R.I.P.
The beginning of history right here
I remember when Dusty was inducted into the Hall of Fame and he said(paraphrasing), "Deep down inside, I always wanted to be a Horseman."
Greatness!
Both Dusty and Ole were great on the mic
Back when 'Big Dust' was relatively lean...if you wheel! RIP Dusty!
The beginning of one of the biggest swerves in wrestling.
I hate the word swerve. It was a Russo word.it really should be called an angle or a work because that what it was.
Dusty Rhodes is one of my favorite wrestler ever besides ric flair . because dusty cold take a lick and keep on ticking.
where is the video of Dusty getting jumped the year before?
And he screws him.
Classic
It's a simple truism. The old stuff is the good stuff.
Damn another great Promo
Damn, this is good.
I watch this on TV but did not remember his hair being like that.
Dusty looked funny with that big white afro!
DUSTY!!
In Dusty's case, I thought the devil would have been Weight Watchers.
Don't go to that parking lot there's 2 evil men hanging out there 🤔😆😆
Now that`s the American Dream.......

Wasn't Ole a booker around this time?
Yup.
I 'VE WINED AND DINED WITH KING'S AND QUEEN'S AND I'VE SLEPT IN ALLEYS AND DINED ON PORK-N-BEANS !
