I am Jamaica so I don't want to get mixed up in Nigerian business, but its the same thing.
People can return home, but it has to be chosen carefully. Some towns people don't care, however, in others you will be a target.
Please while slaving abroad, enjoy where you live and if you have the grace to return home, fine. But don't deny yourself enjoyment where you work, because after 30 + years your place and people would have changed.

Yes, _ile l’abo isinmi oko_ (meaning: after hard work, you’ll go back home to rest/relax). However, anywhere you lived, worked hard, paid taxes, raised your family, etc. for over 20 years has become your *HOME!!!* Rest there people, rest there! Be wise! Your kids & grandkids will never follow you back to Naija. Stay where you can all celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Anniversaries, Birthdays, etc *TOGETHER!*
Don’t deceive yourself, you can NEVER cope with all the nonsense in Naija after several years abroad. You’ll only succeed in acquiring more enemies while your truly loved ones are thousands of miles away from you oversees. Please people LEARN from other people’s mistakes. God bless us all 🙏🏾💕

I have posted this argument before and I will post again here so other people can challenge me with their facts!
In the past 10 years or so, there have been multiple cases of Nigerian husbands who ki**led their wives in the US (New Jersey, Dallas, Atlanta).
A Nigerian student at a university was recently ki**led in Atlanta, GA while another was also ki**led in Texas a couple of years ago. Back in 2005, a Nigerian student was ki**led in Illinois.
There have been many cases of Nigerian kids who were victims of knife violence in the UK. In fact, one happened recently. There was a Nigerian couple who lost 3 sons to this violence in the UK over a period of 20 years.
Why are all these vloggers not vlogging about these incidents? Or their vlogging are only limited to deaths of returnees to Nigeria? Can we draw conclusions then that the UK or US is not safe based on the deaths of Nigerians in those places?
      I want answers.

This targeting returnees is also common in the caribbean. Many of our elders retired back in the 90’s onwards after working hard in the UK for 30/40 years. They sold their UK houses. Gave their kids some money from the sale to help them buy. Once back they get targeted. People do not see them as their own any more because of the years spent living abroad. Many also realised going back on holidays and returning to retire was not the same experience. I notice what the next generation of returnees have done is to return back but to a different island where people do not know them and they can live in peace in the sun. Jamaican retires will go to Grenada etc. My neighbour is Nigerian but he and his wife are returning to the Gambia. Its safer for them, and also their family in the UK, like grandkids etc will feel safer there when visiting them. So folks Africa is a big continent, you dont must have to retire to Nigeria to reap the benefits of the African continent. Travel around the continent whilst you are in your best years and then decide, which country will best for you and those relatives who will visit you in your retirement home 🙏🏽

@@omonaija2062 I totally get your point but the fact remains that the political or societal state of Nigeria as it is today works against the citizens. It aggressively resists change.
The set of people in government are doing absolutely nothing about it. Of course there is crime in the US and UK.
BTW all the statistics you posted, are they not from a police force that actually tracks crime? Can you provide the same statistics for Nigeria? Why does our police not track crime statistics? How can they solve crime if they dont know how many crimes occurred around them? Is it because the country cannot afford a crime database? I doubt.
I will not blame any one that refuses to entrust their safety to a failed system that works against her children. Neither will I reprimand anyone that highlights the failing of this system.

They retire from such work with arthritis and other health problems. Likewise, older Africans need people to help them. It's the tide of times we live in now. Time was when Africans old and young embraced each other, stood by each other in times of trouble. We lived with extended families without fear or suspicion and love overruled all actions. Now it's the kill and amass attitude that reigns. Everyone needs to learn how to use a gun...to save his or her own life in Africa, especially in Nigeria.

My advice for Nigerian leaving abroad and wants to settle back home is to buy a house in an estate.
I have been privileged to go home every year for the past 16 yrs and I have seen first hand the downward spiral of the country with regards security of life and property.
Unfortunately for Nigerian leaving abroad, you cannot just buy land anywhere and build just for the sake of building.
Your life and property is your number one priority. Remember this private estate are very pricey.
In summary if you want to retire home, you must be able to afford to live in an enclosed estate with a very tight security at the front gate of the estate, light, water, good road and electricity.
I am sorry if you cannot afford that facility, stay where u are and retire. Simple..!!!..

Building a house at home is part of our culture, but we need to realize that culture changes with time. Diasporans should have finished paying for the home they are living in America/ Europe before starting to build a house in Africa. 45 years in America ain’t easy at all . Especially in NYC. 45 years ? I moved out of NY after 4 years and imagine 45 years of hustling just to go die in Africa 😞😞😩 nahh that’s some next level of wickedness.
