25:02 SO TRUE. And as bodyswap episode connoisseur I just, feel very conflicted about this episode, feels like they wasted potentially amazing concept but at the same time there are good things about it, like not switching Gwen and Charmcaster voices(only for them to switch em...) And the fact in this episode Gwen finally gets her magic book, so that deserves some credit
Jeez, it's so refreshing going from things like The Boys, and Invincible, back to the good ol days of Ben 10 and the idealised hero, and what I hope I would be like if I got powers
@@anothergamer112 I can see that too, I can think of many CN cartoons with Christmas Specials and I wouldn't be surprised if it was commissioned by CN rather then the writers thinking its a good idea to introduce santa and the Elf BS.
21:44 that's one of those convenient deductions I think works really well. Its not uncommon for people to try and take the omnitrix at this point so Gwen seeing a failed body swapping spell makes sense she would lead to this conclusion.
Sort of same here, I knew of the series before but what got me watching was reading through this book that had a mini version of Midnight Madness in it, then I actively searched out the series and binged it. So it's got a place in my heart despite it not being great.
For Gwen not using all of Charmcaster's spells, in this episode we see her not want to be evil, so I think using a spell to blow a wall out would not being something she'd do for moral reasons, especially since she gets the inmates that try to escape with her recaptured when she escapes. Blowing out a wall could let a lot of inmates escape. As for the "Sorceress" dub, maybe the original recording of the word Sorceress didn't have the right tone and they didn't wanna bring the VA back in so they just grabbed a different time Gwen says Sorceress.
You mentioned how he sometimes doesn't push the button when he uses the Omnitrix. I always thought he pressed the button with his palm so that he could select an alien faster. Like over time he figured out how to streamline the process

I feel like the aliens should have got some sort of change because of Ben, like how his cold in Side Effects affected the aliens. Maybe a raindeer Wildmutt or a Stinkfly with fairy wings
My head cannon for why malls and stuff have high security is that since Ben and his aliens have been popping up all over the country alongside the villains, each state has put more security everywhere to help normal civilians feel safe. But that's just my head cannon
@@lbspartyhouse8265 I ran the numbers and we should only have to wait 30 to 40 weeks. But that’s if he doesn’t dedicate the next week to something else, or focus on only one episode in a video, so I’m just giving you an idea.
I would argue that "A Change of Face" is a bit more important than you give it credit for because this is also the episode where Gwen takes Charmcaster's spellbook for herself and begins to truly learn magic. This is also the first moment where Gwen actually works with casting spells. Before, she just had relics that did everything for her, but Gwen now has to actively focus to cast her spells, which as we see throughout the rest of the main series is easier said than done for her.
I genuinely love the Merry Christmas episode. I’ve rewatched it countless times. I get that the plot is very contrived and it has absolutely 0 impact or relevance in the story. But honestly that’s part of what i like. It’s sort of like the “what if” episodes. It’s just a standalone one-off and tho it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense it’s just fun and whimsical. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and doesn’t affect the plot anyways so u can’t get angry at it. But yeah at the end of the day, i guess i’m just a sucker for Christmas and winter themed things 🥶
Heh, my Bwen fics are the only popular ones among my other fics. "Losing is Winning" is only 1500-ish words yet 100 reviews, my most reviewed fic. The only other one that comes close is the other Bwen fic, which has 7 chapters and 20k words. Woah, nostalgia. It's been a very long while since I visit FFN.
25:06 You can turn it without pressing the button first, it’s shown MANY times including even the first episode. You just gotta press the button to slam it to transform.
i know diamond head probably isn't made out of actual diamond but if he was itd be really funny to imagine how little value diamonds would have in ben 10
26:15 My favorite part of "A Change Of Face" was the special surprise Gwen left Charmcaster while she was in juvie. That certainly added some extra fuel to the Gwen vs Charmcaster feud.
I would say A Change of Face has more importance as it introduces Gwen having Charmcaster's spellbook, which she uses for the rest of the classic series. It also gives Charmcaster an even more personal reason to dislike Gwen rather than just "she broke the stones" as Gwen got her put into Juvie for a LONG time which IIRC is brought up later.
21:51 What else could it be, she used a spell that switched bodies and was targeting Ben at first. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that wanting to swap bodies with the guy with one of the most advanced technology is doing so because they want that tech.
Midnight madness was the first ever episode of Ben 10 that I ever watched. The moment that got me hooked in was when Ben said, "I'm not the only alien in the galaxy" out of curiosity, I watched more episodes and loved it ever since.
I think the thing we’re not used to is variety, I think it’s good to see that the team who worked on episode three of season three gave us some more variety with both Diamondhead and Charmcaster . How we see Diamondhead do more with his diamonds than just the normal diamonds coming out of the ground, shooting diamond shards from his hands or anything else we see get repeatedly used for him. Then we have Charmcaster interacting with her environment as seen when she utilizes the cannon and cannonballs. I think the reason she used them was so she doesn’t drain her mana. Or maybe mana wasn’t established yet who knows. All in all another great set of breakdowns to say the least.
After Kuro finishes reviewing the classic series he should review all the shorts that was aired during the classic series. Their all on UA-cam in a playlist.
I think what happened is that when the curse was lifted everyone who was trapped there got transported to the moment just before or maybe a little after in which they were trapped there, at least from how I understand it
In fairness to Gwen's jailbreak, she could have easily chosen not to simply bust out of there to avoid injuring or killing anyone. Also the fact that she likely didn't want to cause an _actual_ jailbreak by letting everyone escape.
Also that just being in her body she doesn't know all her spells or how to use them, unless specifically reading them in the spellbook, and it might have been one of the more complex spells to do or something.
The charmcaster episode definitely has some importance, I think it's the first episode to like explicitly state that Gwen has a special link with magic. Before the episode she was more just using magical devices that could as well just be alien technology, in this episode not only her mind is forced to learn the magic as a skillset briefly, as to actually think about what tools she has and how they fit, but also her body is just said to have magical aura, so there is a reason not everyone is a spellcaster
The thing with the old people was always weird to me, but I interpreted it as them being forced to obey Sublimino's orders, ignoring the pain and stress on the muscles so they can move way faster and hit harder
Yeah similar thing is I heard we only use like 80% of what our muscles can do or else we face problems but when it’s needed (like someone you love is trapped under a car) you can do much more than usual.
Now that I thunk about it...I'm guessing the towns/malls can pay for property damage when Ben uses Diamond Head. You know, diamonds scattered and stuff
That Diamondhead chase scene from A Change of Face is one of my all-time favourite Ben 10 action scenes and helped cement Diamondhead as my favourite alien in the whole franchise, and I really appreciated seeing you break down exactly why it works so well.
I wouldn't say a change of face is a skippable episode because it is important for Gwen's growth. Because she was able to get the spell book which kind of started her whole transformation to a magic user
I wonder who has been more simped for by Ben 10 fans UAF Gwen or Charmcaster. 38:33 it’s funny because Adult Konohomaru’s English voice actor also voices Overflow
22:02 Not really, unless I'm secretly smart(?) It wasn't hard to figure out. She finds a bodyswap spell, she was swapped with Charmcaster on *accident* since Charmcaster didn't use the spell on Gwen but on *Ben* And she knows about Ben's alien transformations. It all makes sense as to what happened. The motif is a bit of a mystery, and also it's weird how Charmcaster didn't bother hiding her spellbook, but overall, I think I would figure it out myself too if I was in place of Gwen
I think the reason why they switched voice actors with ben and gwen, but not charmcaster and gwen is because in charmcaster/gwen case, its easy to distinguish between the 2 because they were separated and have time to stand on their own. Giving the audience (kids) time to cement the idea that they are switch. Ben/gwen switching was too quick for people to register and it can get confusing on who is who while talking with each other. So they took the shortcut of switching the VA too. Idk but it feels off for them to just brush it off and not realizing it doesnt feel weird (especially for the VA)
36:42 it looks alien actually. Maybe Mr. Jingles found it and when he activated it, it locked Holiday Village in time. The Tennysons somehow got sucked into it and when they destroyed the Jinglator it shut down the time lock and time resumed naturally.
I've just realized something and want you to check it out.I was watching "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" then realized there was omnitrix activating sound effect on 26:15.Then I searched it on youtube and found a video of that scene. So if you 'd like to you can check it out.
The way I like to explain how Ben's able to use gwen's acrobatics is while their minds switch the bodies still have the muscle memory, which is also why we don't see qwen stumble over as cannonbolt like Ben did when he first turned into him in the big tic. Doesn't explain how gwen as a 10 year old is a master acrobat but hey this show has done stranger
The "Merry Christmas" episode is that of "Jumanji" plot, everyone is put back to the time they arrive. "A Change of Face" pretty much puts the brick on the building of Gwen's magic usage, the importance could've been higher
MAN, it's awkward that "A Change Of Face" had them trust in Megan Smith pretending to be Charmcaster, but not Tara Strong pretending as Gwen despite previously voicing her in "Ben 10,000"!
I'm so happy there are so many comments pointing out *Change of Face* importance rating!!! I mean really bruv?? You literally can't skip it and let the audience guess how Gwen got spell book and magic interest from??? Definitely deserves importance more than 1

Yeah, I feel they wanted to avoid the "Real bitch, remember?" line misunderstanding
Also, I bet whoever decided to do the cannon scene really thought they were clever by having Cannonbolt vs Cannon Balls…
Lol
I bet they enjoyed the 5 dollars they were paid to come up with that.

0:19 "Pointy ears will never be in fashion!"
Just wait until you watch The Owl House Gwen...
Egirls
Oh yeah, people find them hot because of that.
Mmmmmmmm, elfes.
Lol
Jeez, it's so refreshing going from things like The Boys, and Invincible, back to the good ol days of Ben 10 and the idealised hero, and what I hope I would be like if I got powers
The "Merry Christmas" episode is just one of the few episodes where you just have to shut off your brain to get at least SOME enjoyment from it
Yeah just forget about logic.
Idk, I always enjoyed it because it just came out of nowhere
I feel like it was specifically made because executives wanted yet another Christmas special
Change of Face is more important than you give it credit for since it kickstarts Gwen's sorceress arc.
And some crazy fanfic...
Yeah, her entire journey with magic started in that very episode

@@pedrohenriquemoraessantos1164 ........ What fanfic?
@@pedrohenriquemoraessantos1164 Now you make me curious
When I was a really young little kid it was actually Midnight Madness that I got introduced to Ben 10 as a franchise in general.
I also so it as well then I started watching. I can name all ben 10 aliens with there powers alone.
Sort of same here, I knew of the series before but what got me watching was reading through this book that had a mini version of Midnight Madness in it, then I actively searched out the series and binged it. So it's got a place in my heart despite it not being great.
One of the episodes i rewatched in middle school after they put some on demand
No, it sometimes just, pops up by itself.
Kuro:"Thanks for pausing it."
Mochi:"GIMME ATTENTION!"
I think “ A change of Face “ is more important, it’s because that’s the origin of Gwen learning Magic and so channeling her Anodite’s powers later
Jetray, Fast track, Chamalien and Spitter finally getting the justice
Honestly I wish never really wish to see Jetray ever again with how mechanically broken it is.
@@SilvrSavior Umm well what can we even do about it I guess we should be happy atleast they got thier own design I mean which character got thier official design after 7 years when the show is over
I feel like the aliens should have got some sort of change because of Ben, like how his cold in Side Effects affected the aliens. Maybe a raindeer Wildmutt or a Stinkfly with fairy wings
My head cannon for why malls and stuff have high security is that since Ben and his aliens have been popping up all over the country alongside the villains, each state has put more security everywhere to help normal civilians feel safe. But that's just my head cannon
can’t wait for him to do omniverse breakdown 3 years later 😍😅
Don’t you mean “5 Years Later”.
It might take time but it's honestly worth it, it's like a rerun with an expert friend
@@jacobfoxfires9647 nice one.
I could see it coming out in a year with how we’re already on season 3 of the Original series
5 reasons why i love Ben 10 1.spectacular Art style 2. Good story 3.amazing animation 4. Ben himself 5.kuro
"oh Gwen you should see the internet today"
must resist urge to make Bwen joke....

Isn't "A Change of Face" also important because, you know, Gwen starts using magic????
Yes it is
i know diamond head probably isn't made out of actual diamond but if he was itd be really funny to imagine how little value diamonds would have in ben 10
26:15 My favorite part of "A Change Of Face" was the special surprise Gwen left Charmcaster while she was in juvie. That certainly added some extra fuel to the Gwen vs Charmcaster feud.
What was the special surprise?
@@rickyronny4019the other Juvie prison
20:52 the change on Diamondhead's animation making a ramp does makes sense if we will say that Ben improved using it through experience
21:51
What else could it be, she used a spell that switched bodies and was targeting Ben at first.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that wanting to swap bodies with the guy with one of the most advanced technology is doing so because they want that tech.
Oh god.... Its those episodes
I feel like the security at the mall could declare a war against a country and win.
After Kuro finishes reviewing the classic series he should review all the shorts that was aired during the classic series. Their all on UA-cam in a playlist.
19:20 Getting to wear whatever you want in prison, what is this? Green Dolphin Street Prison?
Ben 10 predicted Stone Ocean confirmed
That mall has a ridiculous amount of floors. Go back to the scene when wildvine is on the elevator and tell me how many floors you saw
I think what happened is that when the curse was lifted everyone who was trapped there got transported to the moment just before or maybe a little after in which they were trapped there, at least from how I understand it
31:03 My country is too hot for having snow.
We only have one snowy spot, and no one is allowed to get in during the winter.
Make it fast is a CN groovie where CN would license music or have music made of certain cartoons and make a special music video to go along with it .
Thanks. I got all whole memory overflow when he showed the clip
25:51 I think Ben was trying to maybe jump up or out of the way and Gwen’s muscle memory just randomly kicked in
The thing with the old people was always weird to me, but I interpreted it as them being forced to obey Sublimino's orders, ignoring the pain and stress on the muscles so they can move way faster and hit harder
Yeah similar thing is I heard we only use like 80% of what our muscles can do or else we face problems but when it’s needed (like someone you love is trapped under a car) you can do much more than usual.
She must have said "I'm the real Charm caster" but they changed it to make it more clear. That if anything.
I can't wait for Benwolf, game over, monster weather, and possibly and super alien hero buddy adventures.
The Answer to that "should I do a counter for every time they use that scream" question is yes.
Maybe "sorceress" used to be "Magician"? Hex almost exclusively refers to himself as a "master magician" in OS.
23:10 You could say both honesty, Kuro. As it is a spell/charm that's placed on the bag to make it comes alive and get back to Charmcaster
Now that I thunk about it...I'm guessing the towns/malls can pay for property damage when Ben uses Diamond Head. You know, diamonds scattered and stuff

"Okay, we get it, he's short. It's not that funny. "
That Diamondhead chase scene from A Change of Face is one of my all-time favourite Ben 10 action scenes and helped cement Diamondhead as my favourite alien in the whole franchise, and I really appreciated seeing you break down exactly why it works so well.
2:51 Ben uses that Slam Dial transformation in the episode where Snare-oh was introduced
The episode of Merry Christmass was so bad that it break Kuro both phisicaly and mentaly: 36:45
23:38 "you guys are doing a great job today"
Today, 15 years after this episode aired
IT STARTED WHEN AN ALIE- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, thank you kuro for that great clip 30:51
22:02 Not really, unless I'm secretly smart(?) It wasn't hard to figure out.
She finds a bodyswap spell, she was swapped with Charmcaster on *accident* since Charmcaster didn't use the spell on Gwen but on *Ben*
And she knows about Ben's alien transformations.
Review was great, but I think we can all agree the best part of the video was the short cat cameo at 15:56
No wonder why all these villains keeps coming back. Prisons are way to lax, letting criminals take whatever they want in there.
30:13
Kuro:Still looks preety good though
Greymatter:This doesn't look good LMAO
I honestly think the "magical aura" comment might just be setting up any future "Gwen's 'magic'" plots
It was
Dude. A change of face is where Gwen gets the spell book in the first place. It’s super important.
I think that's just Gwen's actor putting emphasis on real, so it sounds like sorceress is a little different.
The "Merry Christmas" episode is that of "Jumanji" plot, everyone is put back to the time they arrive.
"A Change of Face" pretty much puts the brick on the building of Gwen's magic usage, the importance could've been higher
Yeah but they didn't explained
36:26 I was always okay as a kid. But now a days depending on what you can do I can speed right through them
Ben does have a magical aura he just can't use it because he doesn't have the spark. He is still part anodite.
Yay being a portion of a species that has no DNA...
MAN, it's awkward that "A Change Of Face" had them trust in Megan Smith pretending to be Charmcaster, but not Tara Strong pretending as Gwen despite previously voicing her in "Ben 10,000"!
is Tara Strong Ben's va?
I'm so happy there are so many comments pointing out *Change of Face* importance rating!!! I mean really bruv?? You literally can't skip it and let the audience guess how Gwen got spell book and magic interest from??? Definitely deserves importance more than 1
Just wanted to point it out, you probably forgot to edit the episode name in "merry christmas" at top left, because it's still "a change of face" Cool breakdown, I laughed out loud at "Should we scale that?" Comment. I'm looking forward to the benwolf episode since benwolf is my favorite anur alien (including ghostfreak. yes.)
37:07 grandpa max “come here” is more aggressive than scorpion’s “get over here”
I think the Midnight Madness episode could have been better if there was 1 security guard that just had a heck of a day dealing with hypnotized Ben. He could have even made a cameo after Ben's secret comes out
I have to admit, there is one thing I like at Merry Christmas and that is seeing XLR8 skating on ice.
