And if I were you I will do a series Where I will Speak for my characters in The comics Because I can't have one And I will be very thankful If you manage To speak for you characters by written the Bubble of line Where do you put lines of words of your characters
My radical headcanon about mistransformations is that there's a bunch of celestial sapiens heavily invested in Ben's life story, and they all have favorite aliens, so occasionally they'll just force it upon him when he's trying to transform into something else. By extension, you could also say that maybe a few of them like seeing Ben go through a specific character arc, and occasionally reset his personality so he can once again learn how to be part of a team and not rely on the omnitrix.
Canonically canonbolt is the worst choice to “blend in with” considering his species is literally extint. So almost anyone would immediantly notice him and question it
Are they extinct though? I know their planet is destroyed but is the species extinct? Most of the alien species in this show are all well versed in space travel, so we don't know that every member of Cannonbolt's species was there when it was destroyed, or that nobody could've escaped.
36:42 Y'know, it's kinda fitting how the first Nemetrix transformation was Heatblast's predator, since Heatblast was the first Omnitrix transformation. Kinda makes up for Ben using Lodestar earlier.
Headcanon I just thought of for Kevin's outfit change: These are his job clothes. The clothes he wears when he goes out to fight bad guys because he's grown so attached to the nice clothes he's started wearing that he doesn't want them to get ruined while fighting alien or criminal threats after all the times his shirts gotten torn on the job.
That's what I was thinking! It'd be funny if folks just assumed it was a half baked costume at some point and not just his worn down every day clothes.
Fun fact: Omniverse have the art style as as Mystery Incorporated. When I found out about this, I got hooked into the show, straight away. I liked Omniverse, since the first episode aired. I never had a problem of art style and animation in Omniverse, Ben’s personality at times in Omniverse is the biggest problem as the development in Ultimate Alien threw away. I miss Kevin and Gwen, as we do see them more in Omniverse. Rook is very cool as it didn’t take long for me to like him. Ben should’ve been 17 in Omniverse. Rook is voiced by Bumper Robinson, who voiced Principle Bump in Owl House. R.I.P Dwayne McDuffie for writing the first two episodes.
I find it hard to believe no one knows that OV and Mystery Incorporated were designed by the late and great Derrick J. Wyatt. Because when some Ben 10 fans say "I hated OV cuz of the artstyle" they are indirectly saying they hated Mystery Incorporated which is widely accepted by Scooby Doo fans as the greatest Scooby Doo cartoon to ever grace our screens
It's insane to me that all 8 seasons of Omniverse came out in only two years, but then it makes sense with things like Crashhopper in the intro and Pesky Dust's species showing up in the pilot when they're not actually introduced until a few seasons later. Obviously they were just all in production around the same time with a very tight turn around so it's easier to slot stuff in much earlier while making them.
@@mollof7893 1st season is the Khyber/Nemetrix centered season, 2nd is the Malware arc one, 3rd is the Incursean Invasion arc, 4th is Albedo's season, 5th is the Anur season, 6th is the Servantis arc, 7th is the one with the Mad Ben World and the one that introduced Maltruant, and 8th centers about Maltruant and the Time War.
Ok, but he's gotten familiar with most aliens in his active Playlist, so just slamming the dial and expecting to get Humongousaur is just asking for shenanigans.
@@andrewwhite7385 No, the flanderization and comedy is get worst in the laters seasons. To the point that seeing Rad Duesman punch Ben in the face is the most satisfying moment in the series.
I wonder if part of the reason omniverse is different is also because the "edgy" culture of the 2000s was also fading away at the time while the 2010s have a more colorful pop culture overall
Considering we only see Ben's characterisation "regress" when interacting with other characters and not on his own with no one to judge him, I do think he is putting up an air of hubris to overcompensate with the departure of Gwen and Kevin
@@alos197 this is what us fans are for. Make lots of exuses and explanation that were not planned by the writers from the beginning (even though i do like this headcanon)
As someone who’s watched omniverse multiple times after initially hating it, I’ve got a huge appreciation for it now. Definitely needs to get respected more by the fanbase
I am happy to hear someone else point out how the new omnitrix interface would realistically be a nightmare to use. Even the silhouettes of the original omnitrix are easier to identify than those tiny stylized faces. I personally love the full body holograms the most.
i love silhouette style the most just because it leaves mystery with the alien like you dont actually see what it really looks like or any details but its still easy once youve seen it to see which alien it is
45:44 I just realized, Cannonbolt would be the worst alien to disguise himself as. His home Planet was destroy so his species are possibly endangered. Meaning Ben chose the most unlikely alien to appear on Earth due to how few of them there are in the universe now.
not really for one that was when ben was ten it's been 6 years by that time they could have easily made a new home and repopulate, two just because the planet is destroyed doesn't mean the species would be endangered they most likely ditched the planet when it was dying doesn't make sense that they would just stay when the planet is clearly dying.
@@frankspick7544 true true. We don’t really understand their reproductive cycle. Also it make sense that they might have intergalactic travel capabilities. Still, even if they found a new home they would need to make a new home on a new planet. Meaning they would need to put a lot of time and resources into infrastructure. That’ll take years. Although it might make sense that their would be a few of them on Earth as refugees. Still. He could have chosen a less conspicuous alien.
@@gerardomacias7370 any attempt would have been thrown out of the window due to ben transforming right there and the omnitrix being visible. Also they could of have a colony some were. and again it's been six years any problems like that would have been over.
Also just to mention one point Kuro made in the breakdown, having Ben Subdue the Crabdozer with Spider-Monkey's webs would, again, make Khyber deciding to hunt Ben make far more sense, like, he's at a massive physical disadvantage against the Crabdozer, but still managed to turn the fight around by webbing Zed up even if only briefly, it would showcase him as "Worthy Prey".
Feedback fits so well into Young Ben's arsenal honestly, electricity was actually the one key element that was missing in the Classic series (except Frankenstrike, but he showed up once only), so he fits in well in terms of powers
I think the main issue with the new omnitrix is, like you said, the icons are too small and hard yo identify because if you notice in this episode 37:24 , Ben actually skipped Humongousaur and moves to Spidermonkey. Even in some episodes, I noticed that he actually does transform into the selected alien, just not the one HE wanted.
From my understanding all the mistake transformations in Omniverse are 100% Ben’s fault because the Omnitrix 2.0 (or complete) isn’t a prototype anymore. I will say I don’t like how they compensated that without making Ben act more foolish than when he was even a kid and didn’t showcase the most mature version of Ben with the full complete (and made specifically for Ben) new Omnitrix.
He does that CONSTANTLY in Omniverse honestly, almost every 'mistransformation' can be attributed to this. If you pay close attention to what he actually selects, he almost always DOES get it, it's just not the icon he thought it was. Makes the 'he's actually randomizing it by slamming it so hard' explanation pretty weird though, as we can SEE throughout the show that it's not really the case, the animators went out of their way to make sure the icons actually did line up with what he ends up getting.
@@lilylopnco actually the randomization bit was not about wrong transformation, it was about the timeout function. "The impact sets the timeout function to a random-"
@LilyLopears & Friends I believe there are some episodes that he actually DOES mistransform from the selected alien. Like iirc in one episode, he wanted Water Hazard, selected Water Hazard, but got something else. And even with this is it also makes the whole "omnitrix gives me alien fit for situation" a giant plothole
I think this episode was an excellent introduction to omniverse. I found the visual style a bit jarring at first, but having characters I've grown to love such as Max, Gwen and Kevin make appearances with their voice actors reprising their roles really eased me into it. Also the interesting lighting choices, excellent animation and busy backgrounds made me give it a chance. Honestly, undertown feels so busy and alive as opposed to the bland, uninspired backgrounds on UAF. There's a lot of energy and substance that I find very appealing in omniverse art style as a whole.
As someone who in recent years pays more attention to animation, I am impressed by the level of quality in OV's animation. From the blending of different effects, the variety in color, the amount of detail between frames/shots and the fluidity of motion with how frames are used together. It blows UAF's animation out of the water, maybe even classic but I find that more subjective. It reminds me a lot of the change in artstyle between Batman The Animated Series and the New Batman Adventures, whereas I might prefer style of the former in singular shots, but in motion the latter is the clear winner.
I don't think Ben is over Gwen and Kevin at all, and I think he was very much coping this episode. I think him saying "I'm looking forward to being in my own" is very much just him not wanting a new partner after they left. Like, Gwen and Kevin were his best friends, and they just up and left without telling him, and Grandpa just found him a new partner without saying anything. Who wouldn't be hurt or at least upset by that?? I can honestly see where he's coming from. If I were him, I'd prefer being on my own over randomly being forced to work with someone I didn't know too, especially after what just happened. He needs time to come around to Rook, expecting him to accept him with open arms is honestly a little unfair.
yea its like he’s not willing to just accept ANY partner just bc gwen and kevin left, and he’s never had to either so it’s a big adjustment that it’s understandable he’d be apprehensive to make. he’s trying to convince himself he doesn’t need teammates bc he’d rather that than having to confront that change and adjustment which i think is super relatable tbh.
It makes sense that Max has had a plumbing shop this whole time since we learned in classic Ben and Gwen thought he was a regular plumber and most plumbers are self contracted so its not too far fetched.
Unpopular opinion, but I really liked the fact that Gwen and Kevin left so soon. In a show targeted more for kids, it properly showed us the painful truth that people move apart, despite how tight they once were. Like in the pervious 3 series, Gwen's education was very important to her, and now she's finally pursuing her goals. Gwen and Kevin do make occasional returns, but it wasn't the same like the old days, and that's the point. Whether these themes were done intentionally or not, it was necessary.
Honestly, same, I was so excited for this. I mean, we know that Ben will eventually work alone and Kevin and Gwen will leave to do their own thing. It was inevitable. I love the Trio, but I loved the idea of Ben doing some solo hero work, even if he does have a partner now, but hey, the partner is Rook, so I don't mind
It does make the times they do appear much more of an event, an opportunity for the writers to do something quite interesting with them. The two episodes that take place simultaneously, one with Ben and Gwen dealing with a mole in Plumber HQ and the misdirection worn cousin Lucy, and Rook and Kevin at the same time going to a car show where Kevin’s past unfortunately happens to catch up with him. I also like when they’re in the episode where kid Ben and teen Ben are bodyswapped, with kid Gwen interacting with teen Ben, and teen Gwen having to put up with kid Ben while the situation is handled. From a marketing perspective it works too because hype can be built around their guest appearances.
Honestly considering the fact the network wanted a version of Ben 10 that captured more Kids like the OG, I was surprised right off the bat how serious they made the trio separation. The way Ben took it was so relatable too and something the older audience that grew up with the show would have to deal with very soon when they went off to college (or maybe already had experience with if they were from military backgrounds for example). His reaction when he realized Kevin was leaving too really hit me. I thought it was nice to showcase how tight knight the three had become and to force them apart in Kevin and Gwen’s desires to pursue their goals while Ben stayed where he was comfortable.
Gwen's design in the Omniverse pilot is my personal favorite design. Like, it's a nice blend between UAF Gwen and the Omniverse style. I feel like they leaned too far into the nerd design when she came back in Omniverse with the short hair and glasses.
The glasses and short hair is actually something I really love and think it also fits her character in a way, but her outfit was a bad choice. Just felt like they tried to force her 10 year old outfit too much and it doesn’t align with how her style progressed in AF and UA. Maybe if they went with like a vest and buttoned shirt underneath, it would still give that bookworm college aesthetic without regressing her design.
My favorite design for her is actually the OV version of Gwendolyn/Future Gwen. I think the mana-lined Charms of Bezel are a great finisher to her look, and it kind of makes me wish that we got see a UAF version of Gwendolyn in _Ben 10,000 Returns,_ even if it was just briefly after Ultimate Ben 10,000 finished fighting Eon in the future. I agree with you, the OV Team leaned too much into the nerd stereotype when Present Gwen came back with short hair _and_ glasses, like how Cooper's AF design leans too much into the nerd stereotype (seriously, did he grow at all since Classic? I love UAF, and think it's the best era of Ben 10, but damn, Cooper's AF design was a very toxic stereotype). I also think that bringing back her shirt from Classic was a bit creepy...
@@stephenschneekloth1535 It's actually his design from _Ken 10_ without the chin scar and super long hair. Sarcastic Chorus's videos on "Julie: How to Waste a Character" and "Ben x Kai: Forcing a Ship" cover that part of Wyatt's goal in _Omniverse_ was creating a prequel for Ben 10,000 and if you start to look at it through that lens, a lot of the design choices and character decisions make more sense. I would argue that the Ben we got in the Ultimate Kevin Arc of UA was basically on the verge of becoming Ben 10,000 (minus Master Control), but that's an argument that's been made over and over again.
@@jagnestormskull3178wdym creepy? Is it that bad to try and satisfy both parts of the fandom by blending the Classic and Alien Force designs? Like, you get the colors and cat symbol of the classic, which are important, but also the whole school vibe from the Alien Force design. A lot of the designs are a middle ground, and I don't see it get acknowledged. Ben is treated the same. He gets a shirt similar to the classic but he gets the green and black color scheme of UAF, as well as the 10 symbol. Kevin, the same. Gets those rough looking clothes from the classic and the jeans from UAF. Etc.
Something I find funny and only realized it recently on my most recent watch of Omniverse. Ben was trying to go for a disguise in Bowman’s place. However the omnitrix gave him Cannonbolt, one of them many aliens that only the wielder of the omnitrix could be since cannonbolt’s species (excluding the ultimate) are extinct 😂
Why do people assume that all the aliens keeps track on what species is alive and what isn't? I mean you're a human on earth. Would you know if you saw an extinct crab on the beach?
May I say that love it when we get species available in the Omnitrix as their own characters? Tetrax, Malware, Dr. Psychobos, Maltruant, etc. Especially when they look distinct
I love the Omniverse intro, not just because it's a bop, but because we go from the fun cartoony original, to the teenage years of trying to be more cool and serious, to fully accepting the silliness once again. My favorite stage of growing up is the reacceptance of childhood whimsy!
Exactly. Classic series is just beaing a child, UAF period is growing up a bit and becoming an edgy teen, and Omniverse is fully growing up & wanting to be a kid again
I’m on board 100% with the silly, thinking it’s cringe that it’s unapologetically silly IS CRINGE!! Thinking that you have to be all moody and boring and gray and dark when you grow up is STUPID! LET SILLY BE SILLY
What I like most about the first "wrong alien" transformations in Omniverse is that you can actually see that Ben transforms into the alien he selected, and that him not getting what he wanted just shows that he isn't used to using his new omnitrix yet. In the Spidermonkey transformation for example, you can clearly see Ben selecting the Spidermonkey icon and in a later episode you see him choosing Rath while he was going for XLR8.
That always felt like Ben never paid much attention to what he was selecting, but I guess you can weave in the fact the head icons are something you do have to get used to.
If I’m recalling, a later episode has Azmuth spell out to Ben that all of his “wrong alien” moments since the very beginning were caused by him slamming down on the watch after selecting, turning the dial at the last possible moment.
@@mayborneflower It kinda makes sense that the Omnitrix being more advanced than the previous models also comes with the tradeoff of it being more delicate.
That’s true but another thing that bothers me with alien force onwards is that even if Ben gets the “wrong alien” he can quick change so mistransformations shouldn’t be an issue for this version of Ben , but that just me tho
That intro is awesome. We have finally made it to the Omniverse breakdowns. Let’s go. This series took a while to grow on me but I still enjoy it. Although, the first line of the Omniverse theme really got to me on my first viewing.
I'm still 100% of the opinion that the first Omniverse episode should have been about the Annihilarrgh and Ben resetting the universe, to both do the joke of the art style changing between UAF and Omniverse in the middle of the episode, but also because you can use the universe resetting as a means to just explain any changes that don't make sense right away. It'd be an interesting and also really funny way to do an in universe update.
One of the things I genuinely hated about Omniverse is Ben's "antagonistic" relationship with Mr. Baumann. He's somehow so comedically incompetent in the store that I basically always side with Baumann all the time and yet I feel like Ben never learns. Really, it's such a lame characterization/running gag of just "haha look, Ben destroyed the store again" and it was never funny for me. Same with Pakmar but I just feel that Baumann's store gets destroyed more often.
Sending Gwen and Kevin away is honestly a genius idea. 1. Painfully relatable, in life you can get separated from your friends and family, even though you've went through so much, how you cope with it defines you 2. Ben will have to adapt to working with someone entirely new and different from any of his allies 3. Mentor phase for the reckless hero 4. The new character's presence and development won't be overshadowed by the more popular main cast 5. Rook is awesome.
After the first season it barely feels like they’re gone anyway. They somehow show up in at least half the season finales and we have a lot of episodes at gwen’s college
Omniverse to me feels like a metaphor for change. Ben was so used to working with his usual team that it makes sense he would have to re-learn a lot of the lessons he did prior. By being pushed into a new environment, it's actually believable he would default to his old ways again as he tried to develop a new trust and rhythm with a new partner. Edit: Kinda expanding on that thinking about it more, it makes perfect sense. The original series was about childish nature and growing into being a hero. UAF was learning not to be a lonewolf and working together as a team. Omniverse is not only being about change but being able to accept that change and grow further. The progression is naturally realistic and awe inspiring.
Fun fact: Corey Burton, Bumper Robinson and David Kaye were definitely brought onto the show because Derrick has worked with them before, AND grew up watching cartoons starring them They're Transformers alumni. Corey Burton voiced Shockwave in the origunal G1 Transformers, David Kaye was the voice of Beast Wars Megatron, and Bumper worked with both of them on Derrick's own Transformers show, Animated, Bumper as Bumblebee, David as Optimus and Corey as Megatron, while also reprising his role as Shockwave.
@TheGlassesPro May have something with the fact that with James it's often family members. But most DC stuff Jennifer Holland appears in wasn't even James' idea.
While I can't speak for David Kayne since he was grandfather'd in by Heroes United, I have no doubt Corey Burton and Bumper Robinson were bought on because Derrick worked with them on Transformers and Teen Titans, shows that Derrick just so happen to have worked on prior to Ben 10.
@@retrogamer6403 Omniverse was in production when Heroes United came out. David appeared there because he was going to be aprt of Omniverse, not the other way around.
One touch about the first episode I do like is that when we first cut to 15-year-old Ben the setting is at night just like most of ultimate alien force, but in this show there are a lot of episodes that will take place during the daytime so The breakup happening at dusk is a nice way to transition from one team to another
@TheGlassesPro OV 1st episode Gwen design is best IMO, I got used to her normal OV design & kinda fine with it, but I kinda wish her design never changed after the 1st episode (or at least a few more episodes with the 1st ep design, besides like 2 eps, I think, with that design), again kinda wish!
I could be wrong because it's been a while since I've seen omniverse but Ben to me is a lot less annoying when he's with Kevin and Gwen. Ben and rook get along really well later on though so I still like this version. A great example is the episode where Ben gets his brain swapped with his 11 year old self, and talks to 11 year old Gwen about what's happened,he's a lot more sincere in that moment compared to how he was acting at the beginning of that episode.
I really love how the transformations mostly start from the watch and then moves up to the rest of the body. It gives them a certain type of flow that I find really satisfying.
I like to think that Ben commits so many little mistakes in this episode because he's still depressed over the fact that Gwen and Kevin left so he wasn't fully concentrated in what he was doing.
That credit to Dwayne McDuffy made me really happy, he was a legend who made so many great projects come to life like the Justice League shows, Ben 10 UAF and in part omniverse, and even the creation of the Static comics in 1993, rest in peace, you made so many childhoods
I've gotta say as someone who lost interest over the course of Ultimate Alien, the energy this premiere brought really stood out to me, it felt very fresh and I've always appreciated that.
I remember being confused by Omniverse mainly because the channel I watched never clarified which series was playing just saying "Ben 10" for OS AF UA and OV because I didn't know there was a fourth series. I also have memories of OV episodes that I swore were UA episodes until I rewatched the whole series in 2020.
I can agree that Bloxx as a species would never exist in a pre-Omniverse world and even in Omniverse, he’s a very big big challenge on one’s suspension of disbelief. But personally, I’m able to forgive it because I find his shapeshifting powers entertaining to watch. 😊
Personnally I think they could have made him work if they had made him a coral-based life form instead. That way we could still get the lego-like aesthetic and colors, while making it somewhat believable that he'd fit in the Ben 10 Universe. But eh, that's just me.
@@Theokal3 That sounds like a really cool idea. 😁 But that might’ve limited his usability in case he can’t be away from water for too long, like Ripjaws.
@@sumeracarnatia6997 I meant coral-based in the sense that he'd be similar - you know, a bug-like creature forming a rock-like colorful carapace around itself. He wouldn't need to be actually aquatic like real corals^^ Ampfibian and Water Hazard are based on Jellyfish and Crustaceans respectively, and neither of them are stuck to water^^
@@austinforgie1069 For one, TTs colors were more desaturated and toned down. It was also more obviously animesque in its designs, which Omniverse is too but to a lesser extent.
42:08 i think Kyber being fascinated by ben just running is truly a psychopatic hunter mentality, there are cases where illegal hunters hunt for fun by letting the prey run first(its a thing for serial killer too) so if anything i think this fits well
Honestly I think the Icons being so small and hard too diffrenciate is one of the reasons Ben keeps getting the wrong Aliens. He just simply mixes up the icons in the heat of the moment
The touch screen interface also looked more annoying to move through. And honestly as someone whose lived through the slow gradual change to everything being haptics and touch controlled instead of actual buttons it is pretty difficult to select anything compared physically moving a dial. I know they tried to make the new omnitrix design futuristic but it isn’t super functional (it does feel like a “futuristic” device from the early to mid 2010s).
One thing about the theme to Omniverse is I like the "Galatic Monsters" version. It was darker in terms of literal brightness and the vocals were deeper. It felt more like OG Ben 10, but still looked like a kids cartoon. That version of the theme should’ve been the default.
Omniverse is definitely a lot to get used to but when u give it a chance it really delivers great action stories Characters & comedy. This huge milestone for the channel I’m glad to have been here since Classic. Also love the new intro
Aw man this is gonna be a hell of a ride. Love the new intro, so much energy, so many details and it bangs. Definitely gonna hype me up for every single one of these
Omniverse to me isn't just a simple tonal shift, in a way it feels like its own show, but still pays tribute and homage to what came before (or retcons it out of existence if needs-be). But I think that works a lot in its favor. Yeah going from the dark backgrounds and orchestral scores of UA to OV's bright colors and VERY 2010's theme song is jarring, especially in watch-through form, but I've always seen it as a breath of fresh air and a strength. Brighter, more interesting designs and unique scenarios that- whilst yes are very cartoony, don't overstay their welcome. Mostly. And of course no disrespect to UA, but honestly without your breakdowns I probably would have never seen anything from that show, let alone give it a chance, so it's honestly fun finally seeing you get to my personal favorite Ben 10 show. And ultimately, I hope these breakdowns give people a better appreciation and love for OV as well, as even after all these years later the hate for it has never really died down. So I hope these reviews change some people's opinion on this show, as you change my opinion on Ultimate Alien.
I started watching Omniverse after your Breakdowns of the other series and have really been enjoying it so far. It has this chaotic energy that really entertains me. There’s definitely some forced stuff done to appeal to kids, but it’s humorous and adventurous enough to be fun for all ages. Really love the art style as well.
I always felt that the Feedback Arc was the strongest storylines out of Omniverse so I guess its no surprise that Dwayne McDuffie was involved with that one.
@@ilyassebenana3824 feels more like Ben 23 was a one time thing instead of something they planned, that just happened to coincidentally work with Eon's setting, if they wanted to tie it into an arc they would've spent more time fleshing it out by introducing some of the other dimensions' trix wielders before tying it together in one large season finale, instead of haphazardly throwing it at the start of a season, then retroactively tying how vilgax got the timebomb through maltruant a few seasons later
@@StigmaKRL Honestly while the No Watch Ben two-parter was good, it always felt rushed to me. The various alternate Bens could have used proper episodes to introduce them and flesh them out rather than throwing them all at once, and I would have appreciated if they actually explained why they worked for Vilgax - *especially* Albedo, for whom it feels highly out of character after he got betrayed.
@@hybrid6045 indeed. But I was not complaining, just pointing out how there's a special place in my heart for his breakdowns...an y'know, all the little details along with it.
I feel like the advantage to the new Omnitrix dial is you get to see a few aliens at once on the selection ring so you can sort of know where an alien is without having to scroll through individually. Might even give you ideas if you didn't think of an alien but you see them in the playlist
55:52 i can see him in 3 previous shows but with a drastic redesign and different sounds for his shape-shifting abilities, because I myself think about Lego games when I hear his powers
So in the arabic dub. The galactic monsters was called the galactic monster (without an s), and the entire point of the commercials was like a riddle "who is this monster dude that ben is gonna face in the next season?". And since the first episode of the arc had to deal with zombozo, it was HIM. The commercials after premiere of some episodes were like "That's right, the galactic monster is zombozo" I have no idea why the commercial made zombozo sound more important to the arc than he is. Very mislead
Never knew for Rook's species any conjunction is basically a cus word but feels pretty natural for the species because they are so focused on doing tradition that it makes sence.
Maybe I've always read too much into it, but I like to think that Ben saying that he's looking forward to flying solo was more trying to tell himself that than telling Rook. Like, trying to convince himself that he doesn't need Kevin and Gwen is his way of coping with how much he misses them
I think if you ignore the fact that Blox is literally Legos, he'd be a pretty cool alien. He has cool powers, his sound effects are neat, and I think his voice is cool too. Like with Ben 23's version being mostly blue so it's a little less blatant.
I was unfazed by the art style change when I was younger in fact I liked it a lot I was never really biased toward the series when I was younger but now I really appreciate each series for what they bring to the table in terms of uniqueness
“Isn’t this where your friends show up and save the day?” I love how Rook is all like “Oh that’s my cue!” Seriously, the way he gets up it’s like he’s thinking that exact thing
But it feels like that theme came out too early because less than 5 months prior we saw Ben defeat a squid alien with the powers of a squid demon who’s conquered multiple universes and giving this lighthearted and a theme like this doesn’t reflect that
I used to also not be a big fan of the Omniverse theme song, but as someone who almost never skips the intro song in TV shows, I spent a lot of time listening to it, and it's really grown on me. Sure, it's a massive tone shift, but it's fun to listen to. I like to imagine it's a song Ben himself made up in-universe, and he sings it to himself when he's alone.
I'll admit I do see some problems about the Omniverse artstyle that people usally talk about, but truth be told, I do really love the passion Derrick gives it and the designs despite their flaws
On the topic of wrong transformations, you'll see that in the crabdozer scene, the hologram actually shows ben picking Spider-Monkey (the little face he picks has a strong resemblance to Spider-Monkey) but for some reason he like doesn't look I guess and just assumes he'll get humungousaur, This goes for a lot of the scenes in Omniverse where the hologram is visible. Just something to look for, so he isn't turning into the wrong alien, he's just not paying attention to what he's picking.
Oh you'll love it after a little while Everything about Omniverse felt weird at first but after 3-5 episodes you get so settled into the lore and world building it's crazy
37:00 I think what would've been better is if the middle of the ring would've contained a picture of the chosen alien complementary to the icons so you can see better what alien it is while keeping the icons for sort of orintation.
37:14 I imagine some of the Omniverse mistransformations are because Ben has similar problems. Azmuth probably designed the new interface without realizing that Ben would just try to use the New Omnitrix the same way he used the old one instead of trying to figure out the changes. Instead of slamming every time, it was probably meant to push it down when he wants to carefully select a specific alien and slam to randomize when he's in a hurry. But Ben assumed that the transformation button was functionally identical to the previous Omnitrix, and slams it every time.
I’m sorry but that’s just really dum to me like why would Azumuth think Ben would use the new Omnitrix any differently than the last 3 he used? That doesn’t make any sense to me lol. And I also think it’s dum if he specifically built it to randomize if he slams it like what
@@StigmaKRL I think it was based around how Ben sometimes benefited from using aliens he didn't want and other times stops to pick a specific one. So Azimuth probably wanted to make it so Ben could still get the benefits from picking random aliens without losing the ability to pick a specific alien.
One headcanon I always had for the Omnitrix is that the Core is basically an injector. The reason it pops up in the completed Omnitrix is because it still needs to ready the DNA to be injected into Ben.
I have this headcanon too as it just makes sense why it needs to be slammed down after choosing the specific DNA in it's catalogue and with master control it automatically injects.
@@TyandOnGoing he doesn’t have to slam it, in the first episode of the classic series, he simply pushes it down slowly with one finger and turns into HeatBlast
I’ve always see Ben’s development in Omniverse as him accepting Rook specifically as his team mate and not just him relearning the same lesson but that’s just my interpretation of Ben’s character arc.
ahh omniverse, I'm glad that this series after a long time is getting the recognition it deserved there are so many good things during Omniverse: unique art style, Ben and Rook's friendship, awesome arcs during seasons, many aliens from classic show return after a long time, Ben uses aliens from classic and UAF, lots of cool new aliens as Gravattack , feedback and Atomix. this show is really worth watching
@@mayotango1317While omniverse is my 2nd favorite, I really hate Kai in both series. Probably the most annoying character in all of the franchise. But its just that ov has mire episodes with her se she migjt be even more annoying than Ben sometimes

The only reason I never bothered how Omniverse was very focused on pulling up kids is because I was pulled by it I had watched the previous incarnations but mostly at re-runs in cemitery channels like Boomerang
this breakdown episode means a lot to me. I grew up with the classic show and UAF, but for whatever reason hated OV strictly because of the artstyle and then never gave it a chance. last year around January the first Ink Tank video I watched popped up in my UA-cam recommended, and it was the Ben 10 recap. when I saw that and didn't remember half of it I was hella confused because half of the cool stuff in the entire saga happens in OV. I then rewatched the entire saga up to UAF in like a month lol, but OV still didn't stick with me. I watched the first episode and there were just too many things I didn't like about the path the show was sending the saga down, but about 7-8 months later I started actually watching OV, and I loved it. as a classic fan, and a fan that (like you said yourself) matured with the show, I still very much dislike the goofy silly vibe it has, but ultimately ended up enjoying it just as much as UAF (pun intended). thank you for reigniting my love for Ben 10. been watching every breakdown since, and plan to watch the breakdowns from before I started watching, once you're done with OV breakdowns. so in like 2 years if we get a breakdown a week, haha. keep up the absolutely incredible work
my headcanon always was that Ben literally does not know what any of his alien's faces look like. He didn't mistransform into spidermonkey, he selected him and assumed that's what humungousaur's face looks like.
On the aspect of Kevin and Gwen's development and getting rid of them, I think there's also something to be said about what to do with them now. You're right, they are very developed, and that development was done very well, but where else are they supposed to go? And with the tonal change they were going for, I think it's better that Gwen and Kevin leave, so as not to ruin their characters in the process. Ben, the argument can easily be made that he lost some of his maturity after becoming famous, that part was already established in UA, but Kevin and Gwen would have been so out of character to make them less mature just to fit the tone of the show, so I think removing them actually works out better for both the show, and these characters.
Honestly the most jarring thing about omniverse so far is not only the arrogance but how seemingly incapable he is even when compared to his younger self. It almost makes no sense to be as arrogant as he is with how much he doesn’t really get stuff done effectively by himself
That's what I feel hurt this series. We do get moment where Ben is amazingly competent, like his fight against the Revengers, but most of the time Ben seems less skilled than his earlier shows. And they have his personality regress so they could have him learn some 'lessons' again. Like how he breaks free of hypnosis by reminding himself that being a hero isn't about fame, despite having said as much to Captain Nemesis. Or being afraid of clowns until he's practically useless.
@@harrietr.5073 Ben never acted scared of Zombozo during Ultimate Alien. Even if all the other people being turned into Zombie Clowns did trigger his fear again, he could've managed to keep going to save the day. If it wasn't for turning into Toepick and scaring Zombozo, Ben would've lost. Plus the reason was a bit of a letdown. He got terrified of clowns because Max had clown makeup on? I was honestly expecting more.
@@cybertramon0012 such good points you made, there’s literally a scene where Ben blows off Max for trying to teach him the same lessons from when he was 10 years old and it’s like…what was AF and UA for ?…
The 1st time I watched Omniverse, I had some enjoyment that it would be lighter than UAF and how the art style would be different but I never hated it TBH.
My best friend got me into this channel about a Year ago. We both loved Ben Ten and this channel goes over everything so well. We would always come together to watch a new upload. He died recently in a shooting. But he loved Omniverse. He was so excited to see you talk about the series. I know he’s watching from Heaven though ❤
40:00 he just wasn't paying attention. You can see Spider Monkey's face as the choice, so, at least in this one case, it was him not paying attention, like that one time in uaf that you mentioned.
9:46 I think even then people would understand it’s a flashback because how many times during UAF did we see Ben alone battle anyone in a forest area in daytime?
Honestly the omniverse themesong is my favourite in the franchise, I love how it sounds like a duet between 16 year old Ben and 11 year old Ben, I love the animation, the lyrics, the beat, it's so fast paced and just genuinely fun, ultimate alien and alien force always felt like they were trying too hard to be serious with their instrumental themesongs, they sounded so boring The omniverse themesong reminds me of a classic shonen anime themesong, it's just so fun and energetic I get why people wouldn't like it but I absolutely love it
@@skibot9974 Diamondhead is close but still very much not one. (Petrosapiens were recently revived so they would not be Cannonbolt level of conspicuous.) One of the worse picks was Chromastone. A genetic clone of a one-of-a-kind being. If you see a Crystalsapien, it's either Sugilite or Chromastone. The worst pick (if he's seen) would've been Nanomech: The lifeform that quite literally only ever existed as a transformation within the Omnitrix. But he's very small so he could hide.

Welcome to Omniverse, it'll be quite an interesting experience. Sometimes good, sometimes frustrating, but overall, an unique experience. If I'm being honest, when I initially started the series I fell off early because of the tonal change, but I heard from others how good it was and came back and really enjoyed it
"Sometimes good, sometimes frustrating, but overall an unique experience." ... Well, that's one of the most accurate descriptions of the show I have ever seen. Congrats.
I really got into Ben 10 at the start of AF so Omniverse took me a long time to get used to, but after rewatching all 4 series (a few times), Omniverse has become my overall favorite series. And even though I am now a diehard OV fan, I highly doubt Kuro would make a criticism of it that would harm my enjoyment of these breakdowns. Whether or not I agree with him, the points he makes are always fair and justified and open my eyes up to new perspectives. I’m beyond excited to begin this journey of revisiting this amazing series with Kuro!
As a fan from the start, I was able to get into omniverse with no problem. I never felt the changes were bad and loved every moment I saw from the beginning. Plus rewatching all the series now, I actually like omniverse more than even UAF and maybe even the original. I know heresy, but I love this version of the show the most.
@TheGlassesPro Julie joining the duo as a new teammate would've been so good especially since ship is a galvanic mechamorph but idk how she'd balance tennis with heroing.
I'm not the biggest fan of this one for the longest time I thought it was set in another universe because of how distinct it felt, but I did notice that the majority of the fan base for ov were kids/younger audience or was their first introduction to the series. I guess it worked in the end from a studio and marketing standpoint lol. Don't loathe it as I before but don't love it either. 😂
Speaking of tracks, I know that the track of Ben entering the plumber base for the first time in this is used again when they do the "time war" with eon and vilgax. All the Ben's going against vilgax and clockwork resetting everything is when it's used I think😄
I rewatched all the breakdowns of each series' premiere The rankings are: UA: Fame - 22 Omni pt 1 and AF pt 2 - 21 AF pt 1 - 20 Classic - 18 Which is interesting, but I guess also makes sense as they got comfortable with the characters and production with each new series even through the changes
@Lucien Haulotte kuro was waaay too harsh on classic pilot. He wanted to sound as unbiased as he could but honestly? No way in hell it gets anything lower than a 5 in importance.
39:00 Man the Omniverse Omnitirx is just cool to me, this is probably the first time in your breakdowns I haven't been able to understand your point at all , it's just neat
Also, omniverse being as different as it is makes it feel like a whole new world especially with all the new space stuff that came with it. So whenever older aliens appeared or callbacks or anything in regard to the previous series you get reminded this is the same universe and it acts as a soft reboot which I'm a huge fan of. I'm not really sure what they could've done with the past series to not make it repetitive or seem like a fanfiction story.
Personally I think that the reason was acting like that about wanting to be alone was less than he actually believes that and more that he's trying to convince himself that he can do this. I think the reason he rejected Rook so much is that he didn't want to just get a replacement.
Yeah, Ben (and the viewers too) really liked the trio, it was hard for Ben to move on, he was denying that he needs help because he "lost" his two closest allies and friends, so he covered up his grief with bragging
I can’t wait to see the Omniverse breakdowns continue because I think it will help bring recognition the show deserves. As a fan of OV from the start this means a lot. Sure, it’s got its issues but so does every other Ben 10 show and being able to criticize something doesn’t negate all the good it has. I truly love how OV combined elements from the past shows.
Another thing I want to say is that while Ben’s character regression is well known by now in the fanbase I don’t think it’s terrible. 1. Ben 10 takes a lot from comic books and the prime timeline is actually a perfect translation of comic storytelling (intentional or not). Each show almost feels like different comic run on the same character done by different creative teams while maintaining continuity. A staple of comics is the characters having a status quo. It’s not to say that character development and their stories are meaningless because many times they still acknowledge those past stories and growth. But they eventually, in some form go to said status quo. 2. My second reason is that Ben still feels like Ben even if it’s pretty exaggerated and his characterization leans into how he’s been a hero for a long time and has experience. All the past shows are acknowledged and utilized.
Main reason he mistranforms, is because he's not paying attention which alien he's picking. He picked spidermonkey thinking it was Humongousaur. It happens in almost every episode.
Kuro, I have to thank you. Thanks to your reviews, I rewatched all the series until UAF and watch Omniverse for the first time. Now I can't wait to see all 80 episodes again with your amazing observations and fun facts.

So almost anyone would immediantly notice him and question it
"Oops"
Ben
I mean what if theres a few that escaped
I thought the same thing, but not everyone’s gonna be able to look at one of billions of alien species and go “hey, that one’s extinct!”
Are they extinct though? I know their planet is destroyed but is the species extinct? Most of the alien species in this show are all well versed in space travel, so we don't know that every member of Cannonbolt's species was there when it was destroyed, or that nobody could've escaped.

When I found out about this, I got hooked into the show, straight away. I liked Omniverse, since the first episode aired.

Then again, one of the comments did mention that Kyber saw Ben not using 100% of his brain power as a challenge

Which gets a little annoying
He needs time to come around to Rook, expecting him to accept him with open arms is honestly a little unfair.
yea its like he’s not willing to just accept ANY partner just bc gwen and kevin left, and he’s never had to either so it’s a big adjustment that it’s understandable he’d be apprehensive to make. he’s trying to convince himself he doesn’t need teammates bc he’d rather that than having to confront that change and adjustment which i think is super relatable tbh.
i think there is an episode where ben says that kevin is like an older brother to him in UAF
It might’ve worked too well. Gwen and Kevin leaving was the main reason why I never gave the show a chance as a kid
I think it's just a case of having the rip the bandaid off. Of they stuck around for a full season it'd be even harder to say goodbye
Gwen's design in the Omniverse pilot is my personal favorite design. Like, it's a nice blend between UAF Gwen and the Omniverse style. I feel like they leaned too far into the nerd design when she came back in Omniverse with the short hair and glasses.
Agreed, but for me Kevin's design in Omniverse is the worst.
Some of his species did manage to escape their planets destruction but yeah. It's a little on the nose there Ben.
Ben: Okay Cannonbolt is a little conspicuous... Let's try this again *(hits Omnitrix)*
Ben: *(turns into Nanomech)*
The omnitrix didn't give him cannonbolt, he gave it to himself, his icon was the one selected on screen when he transformed.
Why do people assume that all the aliens keeps track on what species is alive and what isn't? I mean you're a human on earth. Would you know if you saw an extinct crab on the beach?
No it's just there home Plante is deysorted

Ben is just ADHD around slamming the watch ig
They basically made them like Dennis the Menace (even Ben's 5 year old design kinda resembles Dennis) and Mr. Wilson.
The pakmar ones are rarely actually his fault I find. Like there’s no way you can tell me what happened in predators of prey was Ben’s fault
@@ahaha272 True, Pakmar's wasn't as bad but it just exemplified that fsr Ben is written to be known for ruining stores.
@@uncannydcmarvelous5732 Deep Cut and Old Reference, i like it. i don't see many people bringing Dennis as much nowadays.

Sending Gwen and Kevin away is honestly a genius idea.
1. Painfully relatable, in life you can get separated from your friends and family, even though you've went through so much, how you cope with it defines you
2. Ben will have to adapt to working with someone entirely new and different from any of his allies
3. Mentor phase for the reckless hero
4. The new character's presence and development won't be overshadowed by the more popular main cast
5. Rook is awesome.
After the first season it barely feels like they’re gone anyway. They somehow show up in at least half the season finales and we have a lot of episodes at gwen’s college
6. It turns out Rook is a car guy and a nerd so Ben really didn't lose much
Absolutely Right in my opinion, even as someone who likes Uaf trio the most.
Also it makes Gwen and Kev seem more like they have lives outside of Ben and the alien stuff. Didn’t always feel that way in AF/UA.
Yeah It’s not like the Gwen and Kevin are gone forever, they still have plenty of appearances in Omniverse.
Fun fact: Corey Burton, Bumper Robinson and David Kaye were definitely brought onto the show because Derrick has worked with them before, AND grew up watching cartoons starring them
They're Transformers alumni.
Transformers Animated was great. It's right alongside Prime as one of the best Transformers show.

Yup, we’re in the Endgame now. I’m so glad Kuro is still hitting us with the Breakdowns after 2 long years.

I honestly have such an appreciation for Omniverse mostly because of its world building its just phenomenal to me
I started watching Omniverse after your Breakdowns of the other series and have really been enjoying it so far. It has this chaotic energy that really entertains me. There’s definitely some forced stuff done to appeal to kids, but it’s humorous and adventurous enough to be fun for all ages. Really love the art style as well.
I always felt that the Feedback Arc was the strongest storylines out of Omniverse so I guess its no surprise that Dwayne McDuffie was involved with that one.
it was the only good arc tbh

So in the arabic dub. The galactic monsters was called the galactic monster (without an s), and the entire point of the commercials was like a riddle "who is this monster dude that ben is gonna face in the next season?". And since the first episode of the arc had to deal with zombozo, it was HIM. The commercials after premiere of some episodes were like "That's right, the galactic monster is zombozo"

Seriously, the way he gets up it’s like he’s thinking that exact thing
I don’t love how bouncy the new intro is but I a really like the lyrics. “When lives are on the line, it’s hero time!” is just so good
But it feels like that theme came out too early because less than 5 months prior we saw Ben defeat a squid alien with the powers of a squid demon who’s conquered multiple universes and giving this lighthearted and a theme like this doesn’t reflect that
I used to also not be a big fan of the Omniverse theme song, but as someone who almost never skips the intro song in TV shows, I spent a lot of time listening to it, and it's really grown on me.
32:19 the introduction of Plumber HQ in Omniverse was one of my favorite scenes.

Everything about Omniverse felt weird at first but after 3-5 episodes you get so settled into the lore and world building it's crazy
37:00 I think what would've been better is if the middle of the ring would've contained a picture of the chosen alien complementary to the icons so you can see better what alien it is while keeping the icons for sort of orintation.
true
like having os' silhouettes as he is scrolling through the faces
And I also think it’s dum if he specifically built it to randomize if he slams it like what
Azmuth should've known better given how long he's known Ben, especially when it was said that this Omnitrix was the model specifically made for Ben.

this breakdown episode means a lot to me.

He died recently in a shooting. But he loved Omniverse. He was so excited to see you talk about the series. I know he’s watching from Heaven though ❤
Damn. May your friend rest in Peace. I'm sorry for your loss.
I’m sorry for your loss
40:00 he just wasn't paying attention. You can see Spider Monkey's face as the choice, so, at least in this one case, it was him not paying attention, like that one time in uaf that you mentioned.
9:46 I think even then people would understand it’s a flashback because how many times during UAF did we see Ben alone battle anyone in a forest area in daytime?

Honestly the omniverse themesong is my favourite in the franchise, I love how it sounds like a duet between 16 year old Ben and 11 year old Ben, I love the animation, the lyrics, the beat, it's so fast paced and just genuinely fun, ultimate alien and alien force always felt like they were trying too hard to be serious with their instrumental themesongs, they sounded so boring
The omniverse themesong reminds me of a classic shonen anime themesong, it's just so fun and energetic
I get why people wouldn't like it but I absolutely love it
Absolutely.
It’s funny how Cannonbolt is probably one of his most suspicious transformations, considering they’re extinct now lmao
I can only think of two worse picks, lol
@@yannismorris4772 Diamondhead and ghostfreak?
@@skibot9974 Diamondhead is close but still very much not one. (Petrosapiens were recently revived so they would not be Cannonbolt level of conspicuous.) One of the worse picks was Chromastone. A genetic clone of a one-of-a-kind being. If you see a Crystalsapien, it's either Sugilite or Chromastone.
The worst pick (if he's seen) would've been Nanomech: The lifeform that quite literally only ever existed as a transformation within the Omnitrix. But he's very small so he could hide.
@@yannismorris4772 if we're talking pure conspicuous-ness and not just alerting people to the Omnitrix specifically, I'd put Alien X and Waybig high up as well for obvious reasons
Welcome to Omniverse, it'll be quite an interesting experience. Sometimes good, sometimes frustrating, but overall, an unique experience. If I'm being honest, when I initially started the series I fell off early because of the tonal change, but I heard from others how good it was and came back and really enjoyed it
"Sometimes good, sometimes frustrating, but overall an unique experience."
It means you have no taste.
@@alos197It's called having opinions lol. You're cringe
@@alos197 🤡
Speaking of tracks, I know that the track of Ben entering the plumber base for the first time in this is used again when they do the "time war" with eon and vilgax. All the Ben's going against vilgax and clockwork resetting everything is when it's used I think😄
I rewatched all the breakdowns of each series' premiere
The rankings are:
UA: Fame - 22
Omni pt 1 and AF pt 2 - 21
AF pt 1 - 20
Classic - 18
Which is interesting, but I guess also makes sense as they got comfortable with the characters and production with each new series even through the changes
@TheGlassesPro because the other had already been establish while classic was new ground ans try some shit
It’s mainly because you can barely tell who’s face you’re choosing 😂
To be fair that donut interface looks like a pain to use
Kuro, I have to thank you. Thanks to your reviews, I rewatched all the series until UAF and watch Omniverse for the first time. Now I can't wait to see all 80 episodes again with your amazing observations and fun facts.
