Remember that Kevin’s powers are only a 10th as strong. Likely Ghostfreak’s DNA was diluted, incomplete, so Z’Skarr likely couldn’t imprint himself on it.
I guess the reason Forever Knights put Ben in an ideal situation to remove the Omnitrix from him is because the Omnitrix Prototype’s failsafes work accondingly to the perception of danger Ben is having in that moment. So if Ben feels in danger, the failsafes activates. We can sense the danger even unconciously, that’s why they can’t just put him in a pharmaceutical coma, they need to create a virtual world in his mind where he feels safe and invincible.
@@Nameless82284 they guessed, then tried and it worked. Speaking of Upgrade, I don’t think in dream could have done anything useful and Ben couldn’t transform in real life while sleeping
I love how Gwen’s magic trick in the first fight in the dream world implies one of two things. Either 1: Ben subconsciously thinks Gwen’s magic is really powerful and cool, and possibly that she’s better at it than she actually is, which is actually kind of sweet. Or 2: The Forever Knights portray Gwen’s magic as more powerful than it actually is because they’re slightly scared of it, which is really funny.
Pretty sure ben looks up to gwen in some ways. He just wouldn't admit it. Heck, gwen is probably the same (as proven by her you're always a hero even if you can't go hero speech in soto).
Personally, with the 2nd, outside of the dream episode, the knights really are more of a joke then an actual threat. Even in the ultimate kevin arc where ben just mows them over like they're nothing. Sort of like the box ghost where outside of the ultimate enemy and the Pandora episode, he's a joke, where in the 2 mentioned episodes, he's an actual threat.

Season 4 is definitely my favourite season next to season 1 Also it’s funny that in the perfect day Ben got a game early and I found this video unlisted yesterday
Actually, Ben says “Going hero” a lot more than he says “Hero time” in the original series. Technically that’s OS Ben’s catchphrase and “It’s hero time” is UAF and OV bens catchphrase
If Gwen kept using wind magic, and Kevin kept his lightning powers without the energy/insanity retcon, in an alternate alien force together they could have had a storm theme X)
18:00 missed a wrong transformation on the counter, before this Ben says “going stinkfly” Edit: he also missed when Ben was going for ditto and got upgrade later on the ship
I feel like “Divided We Stand” deserved a higher importance than just a measly 1. I would argue that is one of the quintessential episodes that make the whole that is the Ben 10 Experience.
I think the more rubbery type of splitting apart into clones works more for Ditto, honestly. The laser-kind of one is cool and all, but you gotta appreciate a bit of squash n' stretch
I am pretty sure that the "Ditto not being able to untransform when they are not together" might have been a glitch in the omnitrix in the og series. Because in the episode where Ditto is hunted by the Panuncian in Omniverse, he is shown to have multiplied several times, over larger areas, and he is still able to untransform in that episode, regardless of where the rest of them where.
You know, that being a glitch back when the Omnitrix was a prototype makes a lot of sense. And its a good example something that could be said is a glitch.
I thought Ditto couldn't transform back because one of them was stuck in a tube, an issue of not being able to get through the glass rather than proximity
22:15 That’s definitely the Omnitrix. Ben had reached his time limit but couldn’t turn back because all clones were not present in the same location. For this, because all clones are within close enough proximity, the Omnitrix is forcing all the clones together by sending them all into one central point like a magnet, merging them for Ben’s time-out.
@@danielsurvivor1372 that’s what I always got annoyed by in season 3 and 4. “Oh crap, we’re out of ideas, let’s give Ben like 12 more aliens and only have them show up once.”
Given how Ditto’s “shared pain” flaw disappeared down the line, I’ve sort of head cannoned that it was just a glitch of the Omnitrix. Like how it couldn’t properly handle all of Upgrades nanomachines so that’s why Ben retains his voice. Ben feels pain of his clones to compensate for the watch improperly running multiple life forms
I haven’t seen all the episodes yet but I think the shared pain thing is still a canon part of his character as it goes across multiple universal versions. Maybe it just gets removed with aging and maturing of the alien?
The canonical reason why Ditto can't always make an army is because it amplifies the potential pain that Ben can take in a single fight, to the point that he runs the risk of just one Ditto getting killed and spelling doom for the rest of the pack due to their shared weakness.

Wait, Michael Jelenic wrote Perfect Day? Huh, I guess that means he's the Steven Moffat of cartooning. Amazing one-offs, but you should NEVER put him in charge of an entire production
18:33 The more we get closet to Alien Force, the more I savor the much obligatory "Gwen, remember when you could do magic different than shooting pink light?" counter.
Ditto is one of my favorite aliens, definitely in my top 3. Paulsen basically playing him like he's an immature 90s cartoon character makes him really fun to watch, especially when his clones disagree despite all being the same Ben. He's one of the few aliens where I can't really pick which design I like best. I really prefer his elasticity and stretchy cloning animation, as well as his color scheme, from the OS, but I like his vaguely feline design from OV is really cute. If OV Ditto retained his OS animation quality, and his height, I feel like he'd be objectively perfect as an alien Also, the episode answers why Ben wouldn't make an army out of Dittos. Cuz he learned in this episode if you kill one Ditto, they all die. As opposed to Echo Echo, whose clones appear to be purely disposable. Ditto is still more fun though, despite Echo Echo having more of a powerset
I prefer the stretchy ripping themselves new clones. It gives you that sensation that Ditto is 100% organic in nature the way he just breaks off more clones. With the laser rip it just feels like he's a machine. Also, just a theory, maybe the stranded Ditto couldn't make more clones because the Omnitrix was technically trying to shut off due to the time limit thing. None of the other Ditto's made more clones either, so maybe if the Omnitrix is unable to successfully revert its host back to their normal form with such a function active, it limits the capable use of the current alien?
I've always loved that vocal effect they do for Ditto's voice. It was also quite contrasting to hear what the Forever Knight sounded like in Perfect Day as opposed to Negative 10. You mentioned Ditto appeared in one episode, but he was quickly in Ken 10. And for the next Roadtrip segment, whatever location you find next, you should make sure the link to it passes past the coast for Divided We Stand to make sense
22:38 Yeah that never made sense when Eon mentioned it in Race Against Time. Probably just something that applies to that Universe/Timeline’s Omnitrix. If it was “to keep the alien lifeforms from overwhelming and taking over Ben” (what Eon said) then every transformation in the watch would have a Ghostfreak situation going on. Probably just that that Universe/Timeline’s Azmuth isn’t as smart as the other ones and couldn’t make an Omnitrix that didn’t have that problem.
24:03: That sounds like something you would start a movie with: Hundreds of Dittos fighting an army in some random planet, and at the end of the battle all of them turn into this one guy with a bracelet.
Fantastic review, you really pay attention to every detail; I personally enjoyed the Ditto episode more because I liked the interactions between his clones, while I also enjoyed seeing Dr. Animo again.
Ditto is one of my faves; I do like how they refined his design in Omniverse (too much green tho) And that laser splitting effect is just to cut costs, so animating him physically splitting is far superior.
I've always loved episodes of the kind that take place in dreams or in the minds of characters, because the writers are given a free pass to make the story as crazy as they can.
11:07 I remember doing that boss on the DS as a kid. Anyway yeah, this concludes today's lecture on Ben 10 Game Design, tune in next week for that big plant boss that was super randomly in there for some reason and had a genuinly funny and in-character polaroid for when you beat it.
The fact that gwen in ben's dream is concerned about him makes me think that ben really wanted to have a better relationship with his is cousin, and I think that's pretty sweet
6:13 Here's the thing, Diamondhead Aims directly at the face instead of the armor, since the face is not covered in armor, so that's why the fists wouldn't shattered when punching the face
That Kevin Transformation scene and chase scene from the Dream episode always used to scare me when I was younger. More than Kevin had ever scared me before or afterward.
How useful would Ditto be if it could teleport? What interactions would Dr. Animo have with Zs’Skayr’s minions? What would happen if Tanjiro from Demon Slayer got the Omnitrix? Also check out that MHA crossover fic Heroes Never Die It’s Hero Time. It updated last week.

I agree that the rubbery effect works best for Ditto, especially when you compare it to Echo Echo Ditto is an organic being splitting himself into duplicates while Echo Echo is a silicon-based lifeform creating copies of himself, so it goes with how they work and also helps to distinguish them

It's one of my favorite episodes! So I 100% agree with this.

@@BrandonTBlackwell actually anodite don't have genes. After all they're made if magic
@@BrandonTBlackwell that doesent make sense to me
You know, that being a glitch back when the Omnitrix was a prototype makes a lot of sense. And its a good example something that could be said is a glitch.
I thought Ditto couldn't transform back because one of them was stuck in a tube, an issue of not being able to get through the glass rather than proximity
And Echo Echo (who has similar replication abilities) could turn himself into multiple Bens.

Shitty prototype.
13:05 "When in doubt, throw them into space."
I see you with that Invincible reference Kuro
The canonical reason why Ditto can't always make an army is because it amplifies the potential pain that Ben can take in a single fight, to the point that he runs the risk of just one Ditto getting killed and spelling doom for the rest of the pack due to their shared weakness.
I think having a little of both of Ditto's effects would look cool. Like having the rubbery stretch but also a little glow from where they separate.

If OV Ditto retained his OS animation quality, and his height, I feel like he'd be objectively perfect as an alien
Also, the episode answers why Ben wouldn't make an army out of Dittos. Cuz he learned in this episode if you kill one Ditto, they all die. As opposed to Echo Echo, whose clones appear to be purely disposable. Ditto is still more fun though, despite Echo Echo having more of a powerset
A Kuro in the episode “Divided we stand” did u add the one mis-transformation of upgrade to the wrong alien counter?

@@Mirrorcomics24 yes

I love Ditto splitting himself to make copies it adds to his character and the laser thing just makes him feel like a weaker echo echo
I really hope that Kuro doesn’t start getting bored of doing all these breakdowns cuz I’m really loving every single one of them!

Yeah that never made sense when Eon mentioned it in Race Against Time.
Ditto! he's my favourite alien YEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!
Mine too, in Omniverse.
So glad the breakdowns is back! Im counting the days to when we get to peak ben 10 which is alien force S1-S2
I remembered Michael Jelenic's work being story editor on Legion Of Superheroes and co-creator of Batman: The Brave And The Bold.
I've always loved episodes of the kind that take place in dreams or in the minds of characters, because the writers are given a free pass to make the story as crazy as they can.
11:07 I remember doing that boss on the DS as a kid. It took forever because the game never adequately said that you had to wreck the turbines THEN attack him, I spent a good hour once just attacking the turbines and just waiting for something to happen. Anyway yeah, this concludes today's lecture on Ben 10 Game Design, tune in next week for that big plant boss that was super randomly in there for some reason and had a genuinly funny and in-character polaroid for when you beat it.

I agree that the rubbery effect works best for Ditto, especially when you compare it to Echo Echo
Ditto is an organic being splitting himself into duplicates while Echo Echo is a silicon-based lifeform creating copies of himself, so it goes with how they work and also helps to distinguish them
