ORIGINAL INFO: So we’ve got this guy who shoots guns and kills criminals. What weird crap can we throw at him this week?
RUMINATIONS: A lot of people were commenting to me when this video came out that the Punisher not being genuinely black would be obviously by his hair, but that seemed iffy to me and since I am a white guy whose expertise only falls into the realm of superheroes, Star Trek, Pokémon, and boner jokes it’s best I try not to comment on things I don’t know much about when it comes to real people (I’ll pretend I know things about popular franchises and how toys are made, though!). The only other thing of note, as I said in the episode, is that because of filming the movie I had to redo the schedule and thus My Cage was pushed back and my planned Punisher three-parter became a two-parter. I prefer to look at a multi-issue storyline over several weeks, especially if it means an easier workload with single issues, but them’s the breaks. - Комедії
The "four cop cars pulling over one black guy" part actually makes sense given that this comic was published only a year and a half after the riots in LA over the officers that beat Rodney King getting acquitted.
I love when a character blatantly murders someone, then promptly say "No killing".

Don't worry, it's loaded with beanbags. And hitting them with the Batmobile at three thousand miles an hour doesn't kill them because the electrical shield surrounding it bounces them harmlessly off.

I always figured that The Punisher was sort of the "shit detail" superhero. While the cops handle everyday thugs, and superheroes handle massive world-destroying threats, The Punisher handles everything in between.

@@flashystarwinger spiderman, Daredevil, ghost rider, and the Punisher all did shit detail. The only difference was the sense of justice, publisher was more of an eye for an eye, where as Daredevil believed in law justice, spider man was more like karma, it always bites you in the ass in the end, and ghost rider was...Well, your fucked, you will lirerally see and meet demons, end up in jail or an insane asylum, get bit in the ass by your own doing and finally death...all three main characters formed ghost rider.

I kinda like Frank isn't phased by his new appearance as he is on the run so I'd imagine he'd just accept it as he likely realizes that no one will recognize him!

Lewis' point about able bodied people not taking disabled people's word for it made me think of that Dave Chappelle routine where he joked about how nobody believed police brutality against minorities was an actual thing until Newsweek did a story on it. Then suddenly it was a real problem and not something that had been going on for decades.
" it's not like he was racist and needed to be taught a lesson". That reminds me of a really good story in spawn( issue 30 I beleive). Spawn comes face to face with a klansman and he uses his hell powers to turn the man black so he could get a taste of his own medicine.
And he got hanged. Spawn was edgy.

I came in unspoiled and had no idea what the title card was getting at, so I don't feel that the title card spoiled it. Honestly, I thought it was a reference to Death of Superman and wasn't sure what to make of it.
No it doesn’t. The title card references multiple punisher comics including Frankenstein castle.

What it really should have reminded you of was "Black Like Me" which was also the inspiration for the time Lois Lane pretended to be a black woman. Although Lois Lane as a journalist imitating a real life journalist who did something a bit outre looking for grist for the mill was a good deal less random and a great deal more timely
That's just it though. There is a legit argument for a white woman in the age of racism going undercover as a black woman; I would also argue the reverse. It would make a damn good story both in and out of universe if done well.
well RECENTLY in rebirth they justifified the existance of the first superman villain ever as deliberately racistto make china and usa fight against each other. so it would be interesting to justify that story

Franken-Castle was weird and silly, but knowingly so. Angel-Castle was just.. a product of his time. He did have one cool story though (Wolverine/Punisher: Revelation).

Somehow the other three options (Frankenstein, angel and black) are less silly

0:55 also a war veteran in one of the most brutal and hated wars in American history, has been trained by several different special ops groups, has a ridiculously high pain tolerance, and a gift for violence that borders on being supernatural. But what sets him apart from the others (at least to me) Is he doesn't really have an alter ego. Sure he's Frank Castle and people call him as such but to himself He's simply the Punisher. And even though his mission is ultimately fruitless; one thug dies, two more takes his place, he continues being the Punisher knowing this. He chose a goal and pursued it wholeheartedly, despite the certainty of death and the meaninglessness of action. That's why I'm a Punisher fan.

He'd have to plan ahead. Like Batman a lot of his achievements came from strategies and careful planning. Unlike popular belief he doesn't just run head first into a meat grinder.(that's a quick way to die in war)

I've always hated how people viewed Frank with that preconception that he goes in guns blazing.
And I genuinely think Cap would be the last person Frank would want to fight. Not out of fear (cause he has none, proven by the fact that he can touch Man-thing and not burn)but respect and patriotism. (that's what I got from reading Civil war)

Oh god. I actually owned this comic back in the day. I'm not even sure if I ever read it as I had a tendency to pick up whatever comics I could find, since I had limited access in the early 90s in a small town in East Texas. What a mess.

Frank is part of the Marvel Universe and has interacted with all kinds of superheroes, but Luke Cage is the only person he knows of that bullets will bounce off his skin?
Yeah while maybe he never meet them the hulk and thing come to mind and the puinsher should have heard of them.

It's not that strange that Luke Cage could karate chop a gun into three pieces. His best friend is the martial artist Iron Fist. The two of them have worked together for years, it would be odd if Luke DIDN'T pick up a few fighting tricks from him.
It's not weird that Luke would use material arts moves, but the gun being chopped into piece? THAT is weird.
I've seen a panel of Frank in Iron Man armor telling Cap that Luke Cage can't join the Avengers because he's black.
And then Luke Cage became an Avenger in the New Avengers #1.

To answer your question regarding the whole 5 cops vs 1 person, it's so that it can be easier to handle in case the subject becomes belligerent or combative, yeah I know the comic has to have the whole "yes, racism and abuse of power exists despite the fact the number of reported cases normally apply to the one percent of asshole officers and nothing drives the point home more by reenacting Rodney King's arrest". Because try and take on one person solo while trying to wrangle them in handcuffs, you got dirt in your eyes, you're breathing heavy all while yelling for the person to stop resisting as a legal precaution, and even after finally getting them in handcuffs they can still fight with their weight and head, and god forbid they get behind you and choke you, get on top and start pummeling you into unconsciousness, or worst case scenario you feel a tug and can't feel your abdomen anymore because you've just been shot with your own gun (thankfully retention holsters are standard) or be met with a subject with their own weapon or one of your tools.

That run of the punisher may not have been the best, but that roster was great and I hope it comes back

Fun fact: the guy who would write Luke Cage's 90s comic, Marcus McLaurin, was brought in to write the dialogue for Cage and other black characters in this story arc since Marcus was black himself

I just wanted to point out that no he might not have been trained like Batman. But he was a captain in the Marines. He went through Recce, sniper and Airborne school. Not to mention he learned guerilla warfare. He served with Special Forces won the Purple heart. So it's not a stretch that he would be able to go around being the killing machine that he is.
But yeah to steal your line that comic sucks. Too bad cause with a good writer The Punisher is an amazing chracter

It's funny ya know? I think, especially as of now, Punisher is more hated by the super hero community than Deadpool. He's an Avenger, popular among the civies, actually making friends and trying to change for the better... thus making him slightly more well-liked then the Punisher. Hilarious how time goes on, huh? Except Castle, no heroes ever like him and, unlike Deadpool, he doesn't give a shit that they don't.

It's incredible this comic ever got published. In fact, I rather have to question the intelligence of some of these editors, when - in so many cases - simply repeating the premise of the comic, out loud, in public, would be enough to dissuade them from unleashing such tripe on the readers.
Punisher writes a war journal so a cop in 2099 can find it and become punisher 2099.
Maybe Linkara should do one of his secret origins month episodes on the Punisher's first apperance in Amazing Spider-Man comics.
It's funny, in the Luke Cage TV series there is a scene were someone attacks him with a machete and he backhands it away.
Punisher isn't poor, he is actually rich. He just doesn't spend his money on luxurious and material things. But on food, ammo, guns, new vests and stuff for his war on crime.
He also needs a War Journal so he won't forget why he's doing what he does and so that People can understand why punisher did what he did. It's a journal, he writes what he feels. Castle is known to be poetic.
How come nobody ever asks why Rorschach needs a Journal?

You know what the sad thing is? They did make that Luke Cage series. It was simply called 'Cage' and Marvel just put out two trade paperbacks collecting the whole thing. I think they're calling it 'Luke Cage: Second Chances' and....yeah, it's pure '90s Marvel. Enjoy!

"Why didn't they just take their word for it?" That reminded me of these people who get falsely accused of something and afterward say, "Now that I've been falsely accused of something, I know what it's like and want to help others who have been falsely accused." It's great that they now understand false accusations are a real thing and want to help others, don't get me wrong, but why did it take them being falsely accused themselves to believe it actually happens it real life? Did they think that every single person who claimed they were falsely accused was lying and that every example of someone being released due to false evidence was a mistake? Even if the majority of people claiming that were lying, that doesn't change the fact that there are so many cases in which undeniable evidence has come out the person was falsely accused, so shrugging it off with "Oh, I bet they're all lying!" denies reality.
As a former conservative: yes. they honestly just believe that that many people were lying or just making excuses or they don't hear about false evidence or they simply wish to deny reality. It's easier to alter the facts to fit their views than it is for them to alter their views to fit the facts. They are that naïve or set in their ways or just in general crappy.
Delusion is a sad and infuriating thing. Some people need to have their world crash down around them. Thank you for responding :-)

Except that actually went into the black experience in a meaningful way while this basically just had white cops beat him and thats it move on

I'm a fan of the Punisher and like that he's a change up in the Marvel universe, while they have discontinued comics of other genres, I will say that they should just kill him off permanently. his last series up to and during the recent (dumb) Secret Wars was dull. I can't say how well the new was is doing until there are a few more issues, but nobody is going to top what Garth Ennis did with Marvel Knights Punisher and Punisher Max. Best arcs other that those runs were his first mini-series (Circle of Blood), Punisher Year One, the first 12 or 13 issues of War Journal, first 8 or 9 or War Zone, and the Resurrection of Ma Gnucci

When I first watched this, I didn't know what was going to happen. I'd only seen videos around The Punisher in brief and in films, never his storylines. As such, I was shocked that this ever existed. I mean, how do you prepare for this?
This looks awesome.
My explanation on why Punisher became black in this story; they wanted to do what was done some years ago in making characters more appealing to a non-white audience, but thought just killing off Frank and have someone else take up the mantle was not a good idea. Then they just had too much weed.

6:22 This is part of the plot of Tropic Thunder, with Robert Downey, Jr.'s character getting plastic surgery to play a black guy in a movie.
Someone else has probably already mentioned this by now, but I've heard of a Superman comic where Lois Lane had this same thing done to her ON PURPOSE because apparently that'd make it easier to interview black people or something stupid like that. End result was she was led to believe the change was permanent, and spent the rest of the comic talking about the ways it affects her, rather than try to learn something from it.
Ok, on further consideration I think what was dumb wasn't the actual making her black, per se, but rather her reaction to the prospect of being black permanently.
I am gonna admit, kudos for Frank being ok with being Black. is kinda progressive...........although what consequences Frank would face about not technically exist due to lack of professional papers thats another thing
