    What antenna will be the best match for the ImmersionRC rapidfire module?? and how would you recommend mounting them?
    one at an angle?
    both at an angle?
    (OR AM I OVER THINKING IT?)
    I would like a recommendation for both RACE and Long Range...
    And thanks for GREAT videos, I have learned a lot!

    Hi Alex, sorry for a random question on an almost unrelated video, but I was wondering what impact an SMA T-piece and 2 antennas would have on a video transmitter and the signal produced? For example, I was thinking of trying a T-piece from my transmitter, then install a MinIon above and below the wing. I've experimented with antennas below the wing, and they seem to work better when you're above, say, 100ft, but not so good below. My theory is the most of the time the plane is above you, so why make the signal travel through the foam? I know foam doesn't block the signal, but i'd be surprised if it didn't weaken it, if only slightly. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. I'm trying this now on 5.8Ghz, but am looking to shift some planes to 1.2Ghz in the future.

      @CAGreve1231  5 років тому

      It is usually better to EMail me questions as I respond to them better. However, your question is quite common, actually. The T-connector creates a phased array. Phased arrays can be beneficial if done correctly (Pepperbox/Sky Hammer). However, the impedance and spacing must be carefully considered for this to work.
      This is why diversity is so effective. It creates 2 separate patterns to fly within.

    Hello, i dunno if you are still active on youtube but i hope all is well. I have a really dumb question, on my VAS Crosshair, when plugged into my rapidfire, can i turn it upsidedown and it wont change anything? or will that mess up the polarity of the antenna or something? like basically spin it 180 from where the writing is right side up etc.
    thanks so much for everything you do and have done :)

    • @CAGreve1231
      @CAGreve1231  2 роки тому

      Yes absolutely you can turn it upside down. The orientation of the antenna has no effect on its polarization.

    Hi, I'm looking for a new better omni Athena for my receiver, and I'm in dough if i should go with the ION v2, or the MAD Mushroom V2? what do you advice? I normally fly around a lot of trees and do some mid range time to time.
    For the directional I've went with the crosshair extreme.

    • @CAGreve1231

      I think you would probably be better off with the Minion if a shorter cable is needed. The cable length is actually a critical part of this as it acts as a balun.

    So what's difference between the ion and the mad mushroom v2 pro?

    • @CAGreve1231
      @CAGreve1231  4 роки тому +1

      Radiation pattern. The Ion V2 is higher gain and thus longer range. The Mad Mushroom has a far wider bandwidth (covering the digital bands, too) and is better with higher altitudes.

  • @shadeshiest22
    @shadeshiest22 5 років тому

    What's the difference between the madmushroom ion v2 and the regular ion v2?? Or the minion?? Race pro?? Im lost between which antennas i should buy in your line up... You should make a video describing the differences in ALL your 5.8 goggle antennas and which is better or ideal for any given setup or flying scenario, why is it better, when would you use it, and what exactly comes in the package with every antenna... Do you make any in rp-sma? What coax do I need for the cross hair extreme for best setup? When or why do I need some circular polarized antennas over others? What antenna combo works best on my goggles or best on my quad? You guys make some amazing products but need to do better marketing them for sales at the customer level....

    • @CAGreve1231
      @CAGreve1231  5 років тому +1

      I am working on a video for all of the antennas in the 5.8GHz range (the original is quite dated by now). In general, the Ion V2 is a long range omni and the Mad Mushroom is for professionals. Professionals don't usually go out as far, but need better coverage in various orientations such as high altitude. The Mad Mushroom also covers the digital bands where the Ion V2 does not. However, the Ion V2 has higher gain and is lighter than the Mad Mushroom.

      We can't tell you what is best as that varies from person to person. The best I can do is inform you of what each product does and let you make an informed decision. Every product we sell will work, so there is no worry about choosing something wrong, but some will fit your needs better than others. Of course, all you need to do is tell me what type of flying you do, what your goals are, and what equipment you are using, and I can tell you what I believe to be the best as well. We are engineers and technical people, not salesmen and thus our goal is to inform you as best you can so your experience can be as good as it can be.

      @@CAGreve1231 hey great thanks for getting back with me quick, I was about to check out on amazon and had an ionv2 and a mad mushroomv2.. Would those two work well on my box goggles? Should I just get two ionv2 counter positioned different instead? Or one ion and a cross hair extreme? Sounds like the mad mushroomv2 isnt for me, but maybe with one and a ionv2 working in combo? Btw I fly freestyle quads, mostly urban areas, decent thick wooded areas, and also like to push them out far distance as my goggles or vtx allows... Also I use lumeneer axii micro antennas on all my rigs from 5inch down to my 75mm whoops... I'm looking for some top shelf RX antennas and use rp sma male antennas on my box goggles. Never had a decent patch that worked well so ive been using a pagoda and a cheap clover leaf with just OK results... Like the idea of a cross hair extreme but think I might need a bendable coax and rp small male connector to use on top of my box goggles to position it correctly...
