Congratulations! Anthony Hopkins is such a great actor, I love all his films.
What a great guy
Around 16 minutes of acting in whole movie and won oscar . What a absolute legend
+Syed Muneeb "At a little over 16 minutes, Anthony Hopkins's performance in this movie is the shortest to ever win an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role..."
+Ghulam Murtaza it was well deserved! :)
+nathan shawyer isn't David Niven for 'Separate Tables' was the shortest ?
I felt like he appeared more in the movie, I think. I saw him a lot.
+Sumo Jii I think Beatrice Straight in Network has the shortest.
lets be real, it was one of the greatest performances of all time
In my opinion, his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in both SOTL and Hannibal (the sequel) is the greatest character portrayal of all time
The silence of the lamb's wouldn't have been nearly as successful were it not for Anthony Hopkins.
@@groofoot what about red dragon he was great in that one too
Yes, his portrayal as Hannibal gave me nightmares!
Correction !! In my humble opinion, it was the greatest acting in motion picture history. !
He got a standing ovation because all the actors present agreed it was a towering performance.
It is obvious
Back then they didn't used to get standing ovations ! Sir Anthony Hopkins did something exceptional in the movie...its so satisfying to see him win and get that amount of peers respect !
David Meir - and it was!!! A living legend, Sir Anthony ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Now they give standing ovations for any shit

I was a waiter in a restaurant he liked. We were always told not to talk to him unless he spoke first. He knew this and would always make sure to strike a conversation with anyone who seem to want to. A true gentleman.
So cool
great story, thank you ;)
that is so sweet!...as if I didn't already adore him.. awww
Were you forbidden to talk to him because he was autistic and it would make him uncomfortable or because of his status as a celebrity?
I'm genuinely curious =)
@@andallthatjazz5796 Most likely the latter as the business wants him to feel comfortable to dine in their establishment without fear of getting harassed by fans. It sounds strange but sometimes this level of actor just wants to be able to go to a restaurant without any fuss over who he is. The restaurant knows this so they institute a rule of "no talking to the actor", good on him however for still being friendly. What a gentleman, if only the rest of us would aspire to be like Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Who’s here after he won Best Actor again for The Father? Such a great actor, he deserved it.

@@ATOK_ Of course.
The audience reaction was based on four things: “Silence of the Lambs” cleaning up at the Oscars - rare for a horror/thriller; a Best Actor award for a 16-minute performance; the film had been released earlier in the year when they are often forgotten come Oscar time; and the sheer greatness of Anthony Hopkins. It really is one of the great film performances ever.
Was it only a 16 min role ? I don't remember much, but I remember being freaked out by his eyes the most when his face had the muzzle on.
Absolutely 👍 the guy is a god like actor.... Amazing performance
Don’t forget that the movie won the 5 big Oscar : Best Movie, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Screenplay
Sixteen minutes of horror and a perfect performance

Now this legend has won another one at the age of 83...making him the oldest actor to win in this category and any category.
Soooo happy for him! No one deserved it more than Sir Anthony! Breat taking, mindblowing performance in The Father!
That was great.. and only this and some other categories.. Anne Roth (89) won for costume design and she is the oldest winner ever i think.
Actually, the oldest person to receive an Oscar is James Ivory for the Call Me By Your Name's screenplay. He was few months older than Anna Roth by the time of receiving it.
@@melodyal3357 Not just mindblowing and breathtaking, it's just heartbreaking and cathartic at the same time.
Like, at the age of 83, Sir Anthony Hopkins already surpassed the late great Christopher Plummer as the oldest Oscar winner (of which Plummer won an Oscar at the age of 82 for Beginners) for any acting category (Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor).
I just came here to see how he speaks normally. Yes, he is a normal person.
You can check his instagram/facebook/twitter, he is hilarious. Bearing in mind that he is 82 years old, Sir Anthony Hopkins' liveliness speaks for itself. This man is definitely a living legend

undoubtedly he absolutely deserved it. Hannibal Lecter is one of the most impressive characters.
And Anthony played the role beyond incredibly.
No, he didn't deserve it. He only had 15 minutes of screen time.
Sami Brady The screen time doesn't have anything to do with the acting skills. That he won this Oscar means, that his 16 minutes in Silence of the Lamb was rated better than the acting of the others in their movies. It's not about screen time.
You must hate shortfilms. lol
Sami Brady What a 15 minutes though.
Sami Brady That's really more of a reason why he DID deserve it. He played the part so powerfully that he captivated everyone with ONLY limited screen time. Anthony is a legend and deserved this honour without a doubt.
His accent is fucking magnificent.
A Welshman after Richard Burton.
I'm here after watching the 2021 film "The Father" with Hopkins and who else just wants to see him win again? That film was heart-breaking.

The Father was cathartic and really powerful.
Hopkins’ portrayal of Hannibal Lector was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. He was eerily charming, intense, and even a bit frightening. This award was well deserved.

Anthony Hopkins acting in "Silence Of The Lambs" is and will always be the best acting ever! I've watched many great actings in different movies over the years but this is on a whole different level! Hopkins did the Hannibal Lecter role justice!

+Althaf shameel Yes! I believe he is the only one actor who is capable to make any role seem easy, no matter how complex it's. To watch Silence Of The Lambs and see how he made us feel that it wasn't that hard for him, shows the magnificence of his talent. And so he is humble and nice. It makes him more great yet.
Luz Oliveira very true.. watch how easily he speaks with his eyes and emotions.. respect to other actors who are very good at acting but I have to admit they really lag him in this.. he can recite you a poem with his eyes and expressions without opening his mouth :-)
Luz Oliveira - loved him in the movie, The Edge
I think Brian Cox might be his equal. Never had as great roles, but he has the same magnificent presence. Daniel Day Lewis also has a rare quality.

First Annie breaks the legs, then Hannibal eats them! What a great couple they would be!
Back when actors knew how to accept an award graciously and humbly. Exceptional actor! Just finished watching Remains of the Day and was stunned, 30 years later, at his performance!
They just had to give him the award. Otherwise he would eat their livers with some fava bean and a couple of chianti.
