Silence of the lambs is one of only three films in history who have won all the five big Oscars, best male and female, best director, best script and best film. The others are One flew over the cuckoo's nest and It happened one night.

Jodie Foster is a genius. A straight-A student and valedictorian of her 30-member class at L.A.’s rigorous Lycée Français, Jodie applied to Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Berkeley and Stanford. Eventually she found out she had scored a collegiate grand slam. Astonishingly, she was accepted by all of those schools. she's simply the best

Perhaps the greatest irony of The Silence of the Lambs is that some people believe that this movie about the marginalization of women was stolen by a man. And sure enough, Anthony Hopkins gave an iconic performance as Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter, a slithering serial killer whose good manners give way to despicable violence. But this rich and filling motion picture - one of my very favorites - is not his movie. It is Jodie Foster’s.
It is Foster we see running the FBI training course at the beginning of the film, proving herself worthy from the opening frames and then spending the rest of the film showing her work. Every eye is upon her, lascivious or pitying, condescending or predatory. It says a lot about the world of The Silence of the Lambs that the only man in the movie who doesn’t view her as “less than” for her sex is a homicidal maniac. (And that is, if you think about it, the only reason we truly like Lecter at all. Only he and the audience can recognize Clarice Starling’s finer qualities.)
Jodie Foster plays her role in The Silence of the Lambs like a master chess player, always on the defense and always on the attack. She knows when to make sacrifices and she knows when to stand up for herself. She grows in confidence over the course of the movie, as one mentor fails her and another, more unlikely mentor gives her the strength she needs to carry on. And she does it all while fighting back a hint of an accent. Clarice Starling is a real person, and she is also an act, and she is acted by one of the greatest of all actresses, operating at the peak of her abilities, giving a performance for he ages.

Everyone knows Jodie was a gifted child and is smart and highly intelligent and that always reflected on her choice of roles. Even as a young actor from her teens she did films like Taxi Driver, Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane and then as a young adult when actresses of her age like Demi Moore or Meg Ryan were doing fine but somehow stupid romantic comedies, she was doing The Accused, The Silence Of The Lambs, Nell and then she was directing as well which was seldom those days to see a young female + actor to helm a film as a director, she's a complete genius and a role model everyone should have, her extraordinary career is something to behold and her cerebral qualities are to be worshiped, I hope she gives acting more time now like she gives to directing.

It's amazing how Jodie Foster has crafted a legacy where it's only her work that matters and not her personal life (though people have been prying on her sexuality for years, before she finally acknowledged it publicly). For someone who has been working in the film business since age 3 and has been a global movie star ever since her breakthrough year of 1976 at age 13, it's remarkable how well she transitioned to mature leading roles with her sanity & integrity intact. Not to mention between all the mayhem of stardom, she managed to graduate a rigorous french language prep school as a valedictorian, had a near perfect SAT score, graduated from Yale magna cum laude in comparative literature. Jodie Foster in every sense is exceptional & remarkable, someone who would be a better suit from a career in academics but somehow ended up being in the showbiz, since she had no choice & this remarkable intellect of her's is what distinguishes her from all of her peers or literally everybody in the film industry. A once in a generation talent.
