    Glad i found this video - been using the mini shotgun mics from Rode and MOVO for live interviews via smartphone, and my production mngr from the TV show i work with is ALWAYS dissatisfied with the audio… collects too much background noise. If i am not careful, the audio is worthless usually due to proximity to traffic noises or other bs.

    To save yall time, i bought the Rode USB c for iphone, it works, but the sound quality difference is negligible. You barely notice any change at all. And you do have to take your case off for it to fit because these idiot companies are still not factoring that we ALL have cases on our phones.

    Without the dead cat, even the slightest breeze from air conditioning will cause dropouts. I just got back from the beach and my footage is 100% dropping out even with the dead cat. The internal mic did much better on my iPhone 15 Pro. I need a new mic for the beach that won’t break the bank.

    Awesome video, couldn't agree more that those small mics you mount on your phone make no sense, there are so many bluetooth wireless mics around, it doesn't really make sense to use anything else (I really liked the airpods example, but I have the DJI Mic).
    In terms of cleaning up audio, it's so much easier in Resolve, with Voice Isolation and Dialogue Leveler, it's just one click and does basically the same thing (and more) as the adobe tool. That is a pretty simple no fuss method, but if you want to do things like auto duck your music so it doesn't clash with your voice over, you can do basically anything in Fairlight, and you don't need to export, upload, download, re-import.

    This video, contrary to what I thought, does not answer my question. Indeed, apart from the voice, there is no advice for a microphone (low budget in my case) that can improve the sound for capturing a show for example or any situation that is not that of a podcast or a vlog...

    • @MrPaulXavier
      @MrPaulXavier  6 місяців тому

      That’s definitely a more unique scenario, it’s impossible to cover everything in one video. But a shotgun mic would really be your only option. Or get a dedicated recorder and place it near the show. Separate from your phone.

      @wcsartanddesign 3 місяці тому

      @@MrPaulXavier It's truly pro-grade advice from a pro theater actor when I asked them years ago how I could possibly improve my vocal recordings for my singer-songwriter project. So while it was one tiny aspect of their fairly renowned university level training, I'd also never even heard of it. De-pronouncing certain letters? Sure. This seemed FAR more advanced comparatively and therefore FAR more robustly effective. And it is. (And you'll know this, and you'll hear it being employed in theater settings especially (which is kind of a fun tech craft x inside joke-ish moment.) That said, yes, in part *at first* it may shift your awareness of both your flow and pace, absolutely. But with practice, it becomes natural and whether it "helps" with those is up to you to choose that cause/effect. Not unlike breathing, use it to "help" or use it to cause/effect an aesthetic. Or like frame rates. Or distortion on audio. Etc etc. Anyway... I'd encourage you to record two short videos, same simple text-based script, one rolling through naturally and the other with attention paid to the S-to-Z x last syllable-shift technique. Maybe even make that it's own A-vs-B video that you publish. Couldn't hurt haha. (Obviously this also should be applied to soft Cs as in "advanced" etc. )
