    Hi MaCenna! Something I think you should consider is a shower curtain. You could keep it open, hang it all the way to the ceiling, use thick canvas/linen curtains pushed to the right side, and just order an extra long shower curtain liner.
    I think that would help the proportion since the tub is off center (curtains pushed to the far right) and will also help with the vibes when you’re in the bath! Steam stays in, you can feel cozy, etc. I have an open bath like this and it really can feel cold (temperature cold and ambiance cold) - and I’m in FL!
    Wishing you all the best!

    That looks beautiful! I feel the penny tile needs some kind of transition to the floor and walls, it seems unfinished the way it is now. Some kind of pencil tile edge, or maybe even something made of brass, just to hide the grouted edge and finish it off a bit more? Maybe you already have a plan for this? Either way, I commend you for your hard work! It's coming along beautifully!

    hi macenna! i’m a display builder at floor and decor and your first at installing penny tile went very successful! here’s a couple tips that i thought would be important to add!
    - when cutting the penny tile on a wet saw, i cut it on a thin sheet of cardboard (usually the cardboard backing the tile comes packaged on) in order to prevent the pennies from bending inward when they meet the saw blade, it gives a bit more stability!
    - slower is definitely the way to go when cutting tile, and will prevent chipping.
    - you can also use stick painters tape on the tile, over where your cut line is to prevent chipping on the surface of the tile as well
    - also if anyone was wondering, the tile she used is called La Belle Purity Mixed Ceramic tile, and its no longer available online because its been discontinued.
    hope this is helpful!!!

    Oooooh the scenes you shot at the end of this gave me CHILLS! The way the sunlight hits those tiles above that tub-STUNNING! I love how you were able to save up for that toilet with the window panes too-I’m beyond impressed you managed to handle that on your own, windows look SO intimidating! I can see why you loved that toilet too! Who knew a toilet could look so charming?! Can’t wait to see what comes next!

    For anyone who is wanting to lay their own penny tile:
    - DO get spacers. Even professionals suck at laying penny tile and you DO need spacers even though it comes on netting. Just spend the extra $5. It'll be worth it
    - DO stagger the sheets so you can hide the inevitable wider grout lines from the above
    - DO use a trim piece (i.e. Schluter straight edge) to finish your edges

    • @ldg44
      @ldg44 2 роки тому +22

      Maybe she is going to install wood trim at the edge when she finishes the wood floors. I’m not sure how that would look overall but it’s something. If she has to go back and install the tile edging won’t she need to use more grout to set it in? Not an expert on these things ladies.

    MaCenna, what if you did a small lip over the bead board using the same stone that will be on the vanity? Similar to how ppl are doing their kitchens, taking the stone up and then creating a little ledge, except yours would be stone, bead board, stone. Food for thought. I think it'll really elevate it.

    People never understand how much arm work goes into tiling and how much cleaning the tiles need…I’m a professional tiler and I have a tip… during grouting if you use a big square tiling sponge 🧽 damp you can wipe off the grout straight after grouting and doing it in stages means it won’t dry …once it’s dried you can then buff the tiles which saves you doing all that excessive cleaning on dried grout ❤️

Right now there is a level difference between the wooden floor and tile but I'm not sure if you do have a plan for this already!

    Hey Macenna, I have a thought about the practicality of the tub set up! I’m imagining that cleaning up behind the side of the tub, under the window, might be a little burdensome in the future. Water falling from the side of the tub onto the floor, mold and mildew buildup and the accessibility of getting to that spot to thoroughly clean. Hope that makes sense. What if you maybe built something to go around the side of the tub and then connect to the back of the tub where you have all that open space? Like a custom bench, towel, shampoo holder, something like that that wraps not all the way around the tub but just on the side to the back.
    Hopefully that makes sense!!

    This is looking SOO beautiful! I can’t help but feel nervous about the lack of water proofing 😅 I know it’s not a shower but I’m just imagining there will still be a lot of water spillage and stuff. Is cement good enough between the tile and subfloor? We were sooo over the top with our waterproofing when we renovated our bathroom because mold is my worst nightmare (after living with it for years in previous rentals). I highly recommend Schluter materials. I’m sure you’ve done your research and everything though. Congrats on the amazing progress in your beautiful bathroom! 🥺❤️

      I thought the same thing. If you think that you won't get water places with a handheld sprayer thing, then you got another thing coming. Water sprays way further than you think, even if you are careful. Plus you have to get out of the thing as well and will drip.

      In the US, for showers, the only code requirement for waterproofing is mold resistant drywall with tile over the top. So technically, she’s got all the waterproofing she needs on the walls and floors with the tile.
      The wood trim is what I would be concerned about… we put pvc boards as the trim on the window that is half in our shower .

      @@freckledspeckled5406 That's not really true - there are many loc. codes with much stricter req. IBC (Sections 2509.2 and 1210.3) For tub/showers or showers must extend to a height of not less than 6 feet (1829 mm) above the floor level of the room or 70 inches (1778 mm) above the drain, whichever is greater - Water-resistant gypsum board may be used as a backing board for tile installed beyond the required tub/shower or shower enclosure walls.

      @@walterhobocienski5959 hahaha I hope everyone is making their shower at least 6 feet tall… but my point still remains (especially considering her tile goes to the ceiling): she’s technically got all the waterproofing she needs.

    I know it's a bit late to ask this, but before putting the tub in, did you ensure that the flooring underneath could hold a lot of weight? As someone who has a cast iron claw foot tub if not supported enough the floor can begin to sag over time, due to the weight of the tub + water + person in said tub.

    • @missdannydaisy1275
      @missdannydaisy1275 2 роки тому +34

      Yea that’s a good point ❤️ my worry was I didn’t see the whole floor and wall surface for the tub area get painted in a waterproof sealer so that the floors won’t get moisture absorption and end up rotting 😳 my sisters redoing her bathroom (I’m in Nz) and her partners a builder and his mates who are painters have been helping and they painted special waterproof sealer paint BEFORE even thinking about putting down tile and grout - because from my memory grout and tile are porous? I mean the whole space is super cute! I just hope it doesn’t get water damage in the future. We have to redo our bathroom (Dunedin, Nz) because the previous owners who had work done, who ever did it didn’t seal in the shower and the gib behind is absorbing water and stuff :/ good luck to maccenna though, I live for your videos girl! I have a big horticulture test today and watching you before I have to do something always gives me motivation 👌
