6:31 Jason throws a sledgehammer up to Jamie on the roof who CATCHES IT WITH HIS ROBOT HAND. This is the biggest boss move I’ve ever witnessed from you guys. Seriously, the way Jamie has been able to turn a horrific accident into a borderline superpower is as impressive as anything else you guys do. Thanks for sharing all the positive energy!
100% agree on sheathing the roof. I'm a roofer by trade and we always add sheathing to board roofs that are not tongue and groove. It's additional expense, but in the long run you avoid a lot of issues. I do a lot of leak calls and I often find nails in the gap that start leaking 10yrs down the road... Also, you guys need a real shingle shovel...
@@Beandiptheredneck tell me last video you see them ripping off old shingles. most the videos building new homes. they even said they don't like doing remodeling. so, you think they need a $100 shovel even though they didn't need it 😂 😂
@@Beandiptheredneck last time they did Remodel was 7 months ago and that remodel they didn't do any shingles removal and that remodel was Kitching remodeling, but you still think they need to spend $100 on a shovel even though shovel they were using was working. just saying.
Sweet! A full house renovation. Guys, there’s not another show like yours where you see every step of the way and every useful trick to get the job done. Would love to see more old houses in the future
I love the rythym of taking on these smaller projects in the larger narrative of your builds. They bring completely different challenges and fun. Watching your crew go into full-ham demo mode is awesome!
I love to watch how the whole Perkins crew works together , I only have one concerrn, I was a excavator operator for over 22 years, and every time I see ya'll leave the excavators bucket up in the air, if somebody walks into it , it's going to hurt, I was taught when your finished with the machine, lower the bucket to the ground, safty tip of the day
Really enjoy watching these side projects. Seeing how each one is tackled is so informative and entertaining and it also expands the types of content on the channel.
I could just watch you guys mowing lawns and having fun and i would enjoy it,but thankfully I like building stuff as well, so it makes this my favorite channel for the last couple years no doubt !
17:30 pro tip: drag the side of your hammer head along an old stud to find the nails that need to be pounded or removed. On that roof I'd recommend sweeping/dragging a 2 foot level along to find proud nails.
I've been watching you guys for years and the best tool a crew can have is a 5-7 ton dump trailer. It's by far the most productive tool I own and worth every penny paid for it. Enough so that I work solo and own 2 of them.
When I worked contracting we had a 7x12 7 ton dump trailer, we had that thing on every site and it was so versatile, you could use it for just about anything.
@@Beandiptheredneck I've got a little 7x12 that's great for demolition. You can back it on a garage, door down and not have the HOA or nosey neighbors into your business. My favorite thing is that it has fold down sides so it can be loaded with a forklift. On deck work I'll show up with the lumber, dump it as close to the deck as possible then tear the old top off and toss it in, massive labor saver.
Spread out a really large tarp to drop the roof material onto. Makes cleanup so much easier/faster. Makes for a lot less nails all over the yard. Can even just throw away the tarp too if you want. The time you save easily makes up the cost of the tarp(s).
You guys are hilarious. The energy and fun loving nature of the entire team is so much fun to watch. I'd like to hire you gents, but I'm on the wrong coast.
So good to see you all together again. Good job on the Old house remodel. Miss you all and can’t wait til you are back on the Modern Home Build! The Holzkern merchandise you all got, so 🔥!
I really ;love this channel... You guys are all amazing. You work well together also. You can see you have a lot of fun, and yet produce quality work. I have learned a lot. Thank you
Love the channel! Watch every episode multiple times and the videos showing “home remodeling” are great too! Built my own place 15 years ago, so now more into remodeling.
I have a 1940 house that was built by my next-door neighbor's parents. I started watching your Channel when you had about 2k subs for this exact reason. I can tell you every step of this project. LOL. Mine also had no bathroom when built. And I uncovered a double fireplace between the kitchen and a bedroom when demoing to add drywall. Among 100's of other cool things. This one is gonna work your nerves, but you'll learn a lot.
Our old 1900 farmhouse had the same open crawl space under the porch! I closed it off with cinder blocks and mortar then spay foamed the sill plate gaps! Made a massive difference with floor temps in the winter!
the place in the video where you have the shovel popping up the roofing brads reminded me of this pimple-popping videos...it was actually quite satisfying, I must say
I'm always amazed at how building construction and sewing construction is so similar. I sell vintage clothing (from the 1890s to the 1970s) and I'm always dealing with the same sort of mysteries you do on old houses. But instead of boarded up windows etc, I find covered up zippers, etc.
I've done a few old house remodel and I'm never shocked at some of things people do, like electric outlet under a cast iron bath, attic conversion with a ridge board that was unable to support the weight, so the ridge dipped down at least 5". Good post thank you 👍
Awesome to see you guys tackling so many diiferent kinds of jobs! Was in Vienna last summer, came by one of the Holzkern stores, did some window shopping: gawked at those beautiful watches and gorgeous accessories for a while 😄 And for Arlo: get well soon!!
Everytime your videos end I'm always waiting for more. Your crew seems to have a blast everyday,my dad always told me to do something that .awesome you happy and you'll never work a day in your life. Cheers to you guys I love your videos, keep up the great content
My house was built in 1921 and on a half basement half crawl that extended under the front porch which was covered with tongue and groove and as best as I can tell never leaked. When I was doing some updates however, I closed it off primarily because it definitely caused issues with the floor being cold in the winter.
I'm in the middle of an almost identical renovation and I Zip sheathed over a solid board system just like that a few months ago. Had leak problems. After carefully walking the roof several times and not seeing any problems I finally concluded that the old solid board sheathing was breathing up and down with temperature changes causing some moving around of the Zip. The nail heads were pulling up and down in the Zip, so I finally liquid flashed all the nail heads and a couple of places on the tape, and it sealed up after that.
The laying down thing. I do this every time I drop a fastener and pro add a light behind your view to add contrast to the background. It also highlights the areas you kids missed with the vacuum...
A good tip for tearing off a roof is to lay a tarp down and throw off the shingles on that. Its easier to clean up and you can drag the tarp when you get enough weight off of it and dump the whole tarp in the bin!
"It probably didn't even have a bathroom back then!" Yeah, I've got an old house built in 1900 that was originally a two room house. The bedroom area and the living area. Heating and cooking was the chimney that split the two rooms and a well with an outhouse for plumbing. It had two renovations over the years. One added a kitchen and a second bedroom with plumbing and a septic system. The second added a small dining room, city water, and upgraded to an early breaker panel from a now defunct company.
We got a tweener looking forward to the series and getting back into the project and seeing what happened when you guys were gone. Love the vids guys keep it up
When I used to do construction I HATED demo. It was so dirty and all you did was make a big mess you had to clean up. My favorite part was when it done and cleaned up 😂
In my area theres a product called flexstone, it goes on as a liquid, dries waterproof and is meant to be a deck/porch covering. It looks like epoxyed concrete. That might be a good option for that porch

Your doppelgänger is totally Jarret Joyce from the tv show Shipping Wars! I swear you look just like him, even sound a little like him.
I tried some of those watches on and one thing worth mentioning is that they are very lightweight as well

Seriously, the way Jamie has been able to turn a horrific accident into a borderline superpower is as impressive as anything else you guys do. Thanks for sharing all the positive energy!
Not to mention the fact that Jason threw that much weight straight UP that high!
Can we all agree that Jamie needs a channel dedicated to letting him talk. Listen, I love Eric and the boys, but I need more Jamieisms in my life.
In an older video Jamie was catching boards thrown the same with his terminator. It's impressive how much dexterity he has using the hand.
Much love and prayers for swift recovery to Arlo!
The throw of the sledge from Jason to Jamie was chefs kiss perfection
Hate to see it end. looking forward to the next episode.

Right! They're killing me up there with a spade 😂
yeah cuz they remove old shingles all time. lol
@funtyes1970 they've done it enough that it would be worth spending 100 on a few stripping shovels 🤷♂️ they're great for general demo too
@@Beandiptheredneck tell me last video you see them ripping off old shingles. most the videos building new homes. they even said they don't like doing remodeling. so, you think they need a $100 shovel even though they didn't need it 😂 😂

got my coffee...only problem I got with these videos is they arent long enough lol. I could sit here and watch all day!
Gonna be a neat place. Love that y’all are redoing
The sound of the shovel taking out nails was so satisfying. Need an unedited clip of just that
Looks like a great project to tackle! Looking forward to seeing you guys slowly but surely turn it into a charming, inviting cottage!

Thinking the same thing. Watching ya'll throwing it on the ground, picking it back up to throw into the dumpster made my back hurt.
Depends if you charge by the hour. 😂
oh man. this is like watching an episode of This Old House. But with the Perkin's Builder Brothers doing it. :) Love it!!!
Hi guys!!!! May all your best wishes come true in this new year! Almost to 1 million subs!! So excited for your continued success
Popping those nails with the shovel sounded amazing! The vibration sound was sooo good.
This project looks amazingly fun. Can't wait to see more of it. Cheers from Australia.
It takes more skill and creativity to bring new life to a project. You guys are the perfect team for the challenge!
What a gorgeous location, love that aerial shot!❤

A hammer drill with a spade bit makes short, easy work of those old chimneys.

Awesome project. I have a 1930’s Dade Pine house in south Florida and I have 5 different siding materials, I’m looking to reside the house soon.
Ray modeling those sunglasses 👓 was the cherry on top 😎

Thanks for remodeling with us.
I think I would have gotten a dumpster before I started ripping things apart. I guess they could get Jason to move it into the dumpster later!😂
Wank I love it when you guys use that word in the UK we add kers to the end a lot on site it’s the only way to get through the day.
wank has always meant the same as spanking the monkey in the US, as far as i know. Id hear wanker (brittish) and assumed it meant the same.

barehand is craaazy for picking up old shingles!
The watch is really cool bro good work to looks like a fun job
10:24 speedy nail pop was awesome!!! Hahahaha
I love older homes. More wood in that home than many new builds. Great income property
Great video all ways are
@ 6:32 Jamie that was slick...
At 18:40 you should just extend the valley do it meets the other roof lower and you won't need a flashing of any kind !!
Awesome job guys

Please tell arlo to get better real soon I was wondering were he was love this channel so much xxxx
Have tried using a Potato Fork for shingle removal? I grew up doing roofs with the family and we used potato forks.
