This video brings the phase "Home Is Where The Heart Is" up in my brain & reminds me that when people work together to create a home, this is where a Family becomes one. Beautiful to watch. Thank You!
I have been watching you for several yrs now & seeing the girls growing up into beautiful & hardworking young ladies is a true delight. You are doing an amazing job raising them to be contributors to the home, therefore future contributora in society! awesome s job, momma!! 👏👏👍👍
Julia and John: It's so nice to see your family enjoying building your tiny home. Your girls are getting so big, and it's so funny cuz they look like little Johns with pony tails. LOL. Too cute. Love your show and watching how you guys tackle stuff. Keep up the good work Dirt Patch Family.
Girl! You are my hero!! You not only make great videos but you can build cool stuff!! While on vacation, we went to Walnut Grove to see Laura Ingalls Wilder sites. I thought of you 3 girls when I was walking around a site of a "soddy".
S-hooks are great for hanging utensils and pots from that black shelf. It frees up the surface area and makes them easy to grab. I bought stainless steel ones on ebay that have knobby ends.- - I used one of those shelf units over My stove for years.
Your cabin is starting to look like a Home 🏡 It must feel so rewarding to learn to build your own things with the skills you are doing because I sure could use some of these skills myself. Good job 👏 👍👏☝️🏡😍🛠
I saw an adorable tiny house where they put shelves up along the top sides of the side walls for books and other things. They also put crawlways from one loft to the other and put book storage on either side of those. Thinking caps needed here. Books are important.
Julie you are a good student and need a push stick. The stairs to the kids loft is similar to ones use by Half Pint, on the Little House on the Prairie. You did have a real good trio of teachers and they taught you thinking thru your designs.
Love how you involve the girls in on your vidioes. Also I can relate to the Books. I to have a real big collection even with magazines. Hopefully when we start homesteading ill be able to make room for what I love so much. lol. My books complete me..😍
I love books too. I even make journals! I recently down sized. Very hard thing to do because nearly all of them are non fiction, DIY and reference. Then a series of Christian classics and classics. Like the Little House series. I'm down to bare bones. To get rid of even one of what I have left would cause severe pain to head and heart!!! You ladies know how to work!! Very inspiring. I'm about to build wooden crates :)
I loved ths video... I think more than any other video I've watched on ir channel. :) it feels like you are shining :) like youre in your zone or element. it comes thru. ♥♥♥
Standard stair treads with a landing and built in storage. Then build shelving on wheels with particle board . That way it can be relocated to a cellar at later time. Tour building may be later a bnb or full time storage so build in modular fashion.
Great video. I used attic ladders in my cabin we had to cut them down some but they saved all sorts of space. Plus they are out of the way plety of space to move around. I also used upper cabinets as lower cabinets because well as you know there just isn't much room and the ceilings are lower due to lofts. Your doing an amazing job.
I think folks place their counter tops to low. AS it forces folks to bend over way too much. Now that I have herniated disks in my lower back, it's very painful to cook and do any real food prep. Your ideas of trying out things are great. As it will allow you to setup things the way they're most effective for you. :)
Julie, I love your tiny cabin! You are doing so well inside. I think that your living in your camper for almost a year and visiting all of the various tiny homes has given you insight into what works and does not work for you and your family in tiny space living. Keep in mind, wherever you end up it may be that you are able to set up a small shed with storage for crates of extra clothes, books, and kitchen items. One way to get cheap heat in there may be a large skylight.
i win at book hoarding...I once said that I would insulate my house with my books...now, i say 'what you dream comes true!!!" I love your little shome (shed/home) Julie!!!
Fantastic video! It feels so amazing to be able to build and create something like you did with your storage. Before I married Robert I had no idea of tools and how to use them aside from a hammer and nails and occasionally a drill. I had no idea what went into building or how to look at something and break it down in my head of how to build it. He has been an amazing and patient teacher with me so I am glad to lend him out to share his knowledge. Lol. Thank you for the praise of our work there with you. We are so grateful to have the chance to meet you, Jon and Paige and Kaia (did I spell that right?) Your girls were so cute and a joy to be with and work around. Such hard little workers! Tell them I said Hello. The tiny cabin is really starting to come together. Nice work! ;)-Dede
Hi Dede! I love being able to look around and understand how to brace things up when I build them. I was so excited about having you hear and can't wait to see you in July!
The judgemental and nosy comments you receive kill me. You put out great videos that we can watch for free. Why do people think that gives them the right to ask about your personal life or tell you how to manage your home and family. I don't know how you do it but it makes me extra grateful for you.
I don't take the comments as judgmental, but more out of curiosity. Sometimes, things don't always make sense, so to me, seeking clarification is the right thing to do. It is the intent of the question that matters.
Love the idea of customizing the height of counters etc because I am a short person and that would be a definite benefit to me (building codes be damned!!). And your ladder is great. I noticed that the girls skipped every other rung so maybe you could put backs on the skipped ones and use those as small storage areas for little stuff? if the ladder is going to stay permanently in that spot......the girls beating rugs....oh my....I remember that from my childhood but we had a tennis racket looking sort of a thing to do it with. Thanks for that memory!!
We use the backs of the steps as storage for canned goods now! I am a little bit behind on my videos so I can show what I have finished in the last week but I am working at it! I do love them beating rugs, they are great little work horses!
Not meaning this in any negative way . I also know that you have to already be aware. That round tubing metal saw is a hack saw. The blades in that do not cut to any width in the board,so they bind in wood. They are meant to cut metal. Perhaps I can be schooled and there is now a wood cutting blade for this saw. Seems to me there should be one. When I watched your daughter cut that wood for the hanger it brought back memories of doing the same. It will always bind up. I guess we make do with what we have.
Can you build book shelves off the edges of the loft? If you are sitting in the loft and the part that looks over below (without steps) couldn't there be a shelf/box there to hold books? I would think of everything to keep my books, LOL! Book lover too!
We thought about that but now we use them as storage for canned goods. With the depth of the treads themselves it is hard to get your feet in and out ...we will most likely give Paige a pocket knife and let her shape them like you said by notching them. How are you?
We are doing well. Struggling with my garden. Extreme heat, and drought, a one day late season freeze, that took out a ton of hard work, and now two weeks of rain. Throw in a gluttonous rat, rogue chickens, and a wind storm that dumped my green house. Grrrrrrrr Gotta love trying to grow your own food, in Florida, when you have a brown thumb. We would starve, if the family had to rely on me. lol Chris and I just picked up and inexpensive camper, and we will be moving it to an off grid property, in a couple of months. I am hoping to start a video series on the work, we put into it. I love your little cabin. That is actually the one, I had looked at, when we were trying to decide, what to put on the property. Please let the family know, your southern friends, send their love.
Are there any plans in the works to do some workshops? I for one would pay to be taught how to build a chicken cope and how to care for chickens..looking forward to your reply have a great day
HI I'm maria your sister in the lord I THINK YOU DO NEED SOME BOOKS OR SELL THEM TO YOUR NEIBOURS, sell them after you see if you can fit them first, as you read some of them, then you could sell them to your neibours. blessings sis.
Suzi Q So does that mean that she shouldn't bother to build upon their home? Or should she stress out herself, the kids and him out nagging and arguing pointing out what he doesn't do? What are you getting at?
sleepygurl85 it's a very simple question, usually he is in the picture, chatting, laughing ect or videoing. What i'm "getting at" is just what the question asks. My question had nothing to do what so ever with her going on building her home or who's stressing out who... that never crossed my mind. Actually, what you've just said doesn't even make any sense ....
He is working part time in our local time while we are stationary for a few months. He will be going to school in the Fall and we are saving money so that we won't have any student debt.
This video brings the phase "Home Is Where The Heart Is" up in my brain & reminds me that when people work together to create a home, this is where a Family becomes one. Beautiful to watch. Thank You!
I love the way you let the kids be a part of helping and planning. It means a lot to them being apart.
I have been watching you for several yrs now & seeing the girls growing up into beautiful & hardworking young ladies is a true delight. You are doing an amazing job raising them to be contributors to the home, therefore future contributora in society! awesome s

Your girls are such good little helpers. You all seem very happy.
You are an amazing young lady. You dont have to catch up with anyone, you are leading the pack in the things that matter in life. I loved this video.
I love that your daughter said she already started a bookshelf. :). love that
Awe i loved watching the girls beat the rugs...precious lil helpers
I loved it too! They are the cutest kids I ever had!
Girl! You are my hero!! You not only make great videos but you can build cool stuff!! While on vacation, we went to Walnut Grove to see Laura Ingalls Wilder sites. I thought of you 3 girls when I was walking around a site of a "soddy".
"hot glue and tape..." Haha I love it! such a cutie
Right?! She does love her crafting supplies!

Wonderful girls you have - such little helpers xxx
Julie you are a good student and need a push stick. The stairs to the kids loft is similar to ones use by Half Pint, on the Little House on the Prairie. You did have a real good trio of teachers and they taught you thinking thru your designs.
Thanks Frederick! I think my teachers are pretty amazing too!
Love what your doing ! And that your kids are learning to how to live .
Love how you involve the girls in on your vidioes. Also I can relate to the Books. I to have a real big collection even with magazines. Hopefully when we start homesteading ill be able to make room for what I love so much. lol. My books complete me..😍
another option for cutting those bigger sheets is to set it up on some sawhorses and cut with a circular saw.
I love books too. I even make journals! I recently down sized. Very hard thing to do because nearly all of them are non fiction, DIY and reference. Then a series of Christian classics and classics. You ladies know how to work!! Very inspiring. I'm about to build wooden crates :)
The vertical piece that is on the side of the stairs could have some bookshelves that come off the front of it.
Love Miss P initiative when you said you would adjust the shelves, she said, "I'll get the hammer' and ran off to get it.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. YOU CHILDREN ARE BEAUTIFUL.
You can put little hooks up above the little sink area to hang your cups on.
I loved ths video... I think more than any other video I've watched on ir channel. :) it feels like you are shining :) like youre in your zone or element. it comes thru. ♥♥♥

Good job! We plan n using the space under the stair as the bathroom .

1timby .....exactly.
In my case, most counter tops are TOO HIGH...Lol, I'm a not even 5ft tall...wish I could lower mine
It's coming along very nicely ! I'm getting some great ideas from you. Thank you.
Absolutely love everything about this
Wonderful job ! Everything is really coming along/

you did a good job,
for large pieces of wood like that, I leave the wood static and move the saw. circular saw.
I like seeing this coming together. I finally got to start building our off grid cabin. Not as big as yours, but, no kids lol. Good job.
Hey! How are you doing!?
Doing great here! Glad to see you've satisfied the nomadic phase, hopefully coming back to your first best destiny - Homesteading!
i win at book hoarding...I once said that I would insulate my house with my books...now, i say 'what you dream comes true!!!" I love your little shome (shed/home) Julie!!!
Thanks Erica! I could probably insulate with my books too!
Books are "dual purpose" thermal mass. :-)
If SHTF - books, card/board games and crafts will be sanity savers.

Are you planning on living in that cabin this winter? If you are, then you should be working on getting your walls and roof insulated and closed up.
They are now insulated, I just haven't put up the video for it yet.
I think i caught a glimpse of Mr. Dirt 🙂

I also used leftover tiles on mine . Which is the same one
what about some shelves next to the stairs?
Not meaning this in any negative way . I also know that you have to already be aware.

A skilsaw and some supports to hold the sheets would work better to cut those pieces of plywood.

Great video! Thanks for sharing:).
Are you going to insulate? If not, you could build shelving inside of the 2X4s
The new stairs appear to be very deep. Could you possibly notch out, or remove every other step, and use the backside for book storage?
We thought about that but now we use them as storage for canned goods. With the depth of the treads themselves it is hard to get your feet in and out ...we will most likely give Paige a pocket knife and let her shape them like you said by notching them. How are you?

growing up my mom move a lot, your books is nothing to her.. your daughter has a starter idea
Could you use storage under each step going up to the loft? I mean for your book.
Things might do is make a outside kitchen keep up the good work
Good job
cool idea
Are you going to build a bathhouse?
great video!
What about ‘s’ hooks to hang on the under side of the top shelf?
Save the books for a bigger space im a book hoarder, ooops nope BOOK COLLECTOR 😉 and i cant bear to part with mine either💙
Yep, I have 20 boxes of books in the storage loft and I just couldn't pare it down any further!
0:26 if I wasn't on the other side of the world I'd gladly lend a hand :-)
Should have had a little higher spacing on the ladder. The rungs are too close together. Thumbs up on the rest ! ENJOY... THE SIMPLE LIFE
Are there any plans in the works to do some workshops? I for one would pay to be taught how to build a chicken cope and how to care for chickens..looking forward to your reply have a great day
Lori Pierce hi there Lori. Email us at Dirtpatcheaven @gmail. Com and we can talk about it.👍
Thanks for watching.
Are y'all going to put up insoladion
Are the dogs gone now?
hang the black shelf on chain out of the way
HI I'm maria your sister in the lord I THINK YOU DO NEED SOME BOOKS OR SELL THEM TO YOUR NEIBOURS, sell them after you see if you can fit them first, as you read some of them, then you could sell them to your neibours. blessings sis.
Why are they moving in to an unfinished home? Someone confirm, ASAP!
May I ask what camera you are using? the image quality is outstanding :)
I have a Canon 70D. It is a good camera and I love filming in our little space as it comes together.
Thanks Julie, a large sensor really makes a difference
I only make concert videos , sometimes I use a DSLR (Pentax) or a Sony music camcorder
Where is Mr. Dirt? Maybe i missed something but i have not seem him helping work with everyone on the tiny house.
Suzi Q So does that mean that she shouldn't bother to build upon their home? Or should she stress out herself, the kids and him out nagging and arguing pointing out what he doesn't do? What are you getting at?

Not time, town, sorry about that.
wrong saw...get a circular saw and saw horses....
to many steps and shelves off its back!!!
