    I live in Chicago and we play in the Midwest cricket conference league. We need a local Chicago team in the league. There is a stadium being built in oswego IL. However in my league atm the outfields of these local grounds are so horrible, cement stripe type pitch. I think for the game to evolve it needs to improve the local grounds so the quality of the competition to improve. As long as the MLC continues on its path the die hard cricket watchers will spread the work at functions, work etc to try and pull in outside people.

      @@cricketdistrictnetwork I hope that in the future, Major League Cricket makes a stronger effort to broadcast many, many more of its matches on networks not called Willow.
      Exclusively keeping MLC on Willow significantly RESTRICTS and LIMITS Cricket's exposure to the broader American society. If MLC is serious about expanding, that will need to change.

Now with the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup being played jointly in the United States and the West Indies(Caribbean) starting in June; with the first match on 2nd June is between the United States and Canada at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas.

      My only concern is not something to do with MLC but rather with USA Cricket. I think the people running MLC are competent and they know what their long term goals are which is great but the people running USA Cricket aren't that way and I don't think they're thinking about the long term. There's only so much MLC could do to grow the sport because the best way to grow the sport would be for young Americans to see their home team do well in big tournaments and USA Cricket is not doing anything to make that possible in the future.

    • @rangergaming8316
      @rangergaming8316 6 місяців тому

      @cricketexplained8526 I do think their players are doing their job well and I'm quite impressed by their performances. They have brilliant players but the only way they get full membership by 2030 is if MLC takes off and the local talent just see massive improvement and they get insane amounts of revenue from that. I downloaded their roadmap PDF a few years ago and I'm still optimistic they can get it done in a decade or so but USA Cricket might be the biggest hindrance.

    • @rangergaming8316
      @rangergaming8316 6 місяців тому

      @cricketexplained8526 I think MLC has been doing a good job at that. They're trying to educate the audience and also market more towards non traditional cricket audiences.
      I remember seeing an interview with the people running MLC last year and they said that the first season they'd try to get a few locals but most of the marketing would be towards diasporas to help establish a fanbase that they can rely on while they start trying to attract a more broader base from season 2 onwards and I like that approach. It's a lot more sensible than just trying to get South Asian diasporas and thinking they'll make sure everything is fine forever.
      I also do think that people who run the Super Kings franchise and such know how to attract a newer audience and they're also focused on that and they won't let MLC slip up as they stand to gain the most in revenue from MLC becoming massive.

    • @rangergaming8316

      @cricketexplained8526 I agree that they haven't been up to par with their UA-cam content. Maybe they're looking to just pump out content when it's time for the season but I do think it would be much beneficial towards the long term growth if they have experts talking about different aspects of the sport during the offseason as well.
      Maybe they could have a podcast or maybe a video series about different aspects such as the different kinds of bowling (swing, seam, finger and wrist spin), different field positions, different analytics such as strike rate, average etc. and maybe even talk about pitches, the different kinds of balls used around the world and how all of those things can play a huge part in the outcome of a match.
      I doubt anyone would watch it during the offseason as most people are probably not checking their social media accounts to notice if they point them towards a UA-cam video but they could build a good catalogue of videos that a new fan could binge watch in the future once they discover the series.

    Cheers guys, interesting chat.
    Grown up with cricket and watched a lot of baseball. One of the reasons I like the two is the opposite ways that they work. Everything in the batters favour in cricket, everything in the fielding sides favour in baseball.
    Watching baseball expecting home runs all the time is like watching cricket expecting wickets all the time. Sixes and home runs are not equivalent to each other, even though the visual effect is the same.
    The equivalent to lots of sixes in cricket is probably lots of strike outs in baseball. After all, runs are common in cricket, outs are uncommon, in baseball it's the other way round. The pitcher is the one to watch in watch in baseball in the same way that the focus tends to be on the batter in cricket, at least in T20.

    I look forward to seeing the Americans get into cricket.
    A little worried how much money might skew the game. Tradition/history is great but I think there would be a loss of talent if cricket does establish well over in the US and I can see it doing it more than football (not the NFL kind), as to a lot of people would love to live in the US and get paid like Premier League footballers. As they would have so much money to throw at cricket.

      MLC will only be a two month long tournament at most and think about it from this perspective, if other countries like USA, Canada, Scotland, UAE etc. get to the level of the big full member nations then there'll be a ton of high quality players that get added to the overseas players pool for each tournament so even with a lot of tournaments happening there's no lack of high quality talent.

      @cricketexplained8526 they already do have their own league with the ILT20 and that concerns BBL and SA20 as the ILT20 takes place during the January window but it shouldn't affect MLC.

      @@rangergaming8316 yeah and happy for the increase in numbers and thus top talent playing the game. I suppose my worry comes from Americans like Baseball and if there was a country that could get behind Test cricket, I think Americans could.
      With their climate they could host tours all year round as well, spring/summer in the Northern states, autumn/winter in the Southern states.
      So I worry how that might effect the county game if there was lucrative tours on available plus all the limited overs series just worried there will be a pinch point until there is enough numbers playing at the top level but I could also be just catastrophising, whilst I get used to the new normal. 😅

    • @johnbattyll6874
      @johnbattyll6874 6 місяців тому

      @cricketexplained8526 UAE not so worried as I think they want it for the spectale and it will settle down and be like the IPL and the T20 Blast a disruption but not constant draw. Might even be handy if it allows more players to train and play in the traditional off season.

    • @rangergaming8316
      @rangergaming8316 6 місяців тому

      @@johnbattyll6874 well they would be able to host tours all year round like you said if they could afford it and I don't know what your main concern is but I think what you're saying is that you're concerned that their central contracts would be lucrative enough for them to not play in any franchise leagues and instead just play for the national team all year round leading to number of talented players available for the big T20 leagues around the world being scarce. Is that what you're talking about?
      I think that even if they become rich enough to offer those kinds of contracts, they would still only give them to a certain amount of players and even the players offered those contracts would be available for T20 leagues whenever there isn't a tour. If they ever get to that point of being able to offer such contracts then it would mean they have a very strong team meaning there would a ton of good players who don't get offered a central contract and don't get picked often for the national team so you'd still be seeing a ton of their players in the overseas players pool in foreign leagues.
      The only way they could stop all players from competing in leagues would be to impose a ban like the one the BCCI has on their players and I don't think they would ever do that and instead they'd probably challenge the BCCI to remove their ban if they ever become that rich because they'd want Indian international players to be available for MLC and other tournaments.

    MLC doesn't have to compete directly with baseball and should find at least a sustainable following. Except for the NFL, every sport in the US is something of a niche sport, in the sense that a guy doesn't assume any other given guy watches the NBA, MLB, NHL, or the Premier League (poor MLS). T20 tournaments actually share one advantage the NFL has over all those competitions, being less than six months, and every match matters.
    Kudos to Nikhil for coming to see grassroots cricket in the US too!

    Does the US have a potential advantage if they really get in to the game? Cricket teams seem to have preferred conditions, so England in England are a different prospect than when in India. If the US get enough good players from enough different parts of the country, would they be able to tailor their team to different climates? Is say Washington close to England, Texas close to Australia and maybe Florida closer to India so they could pick players from those states to be better able to travel?
    One thing I'd use to sell cricket to baseball fans is point out that you can't walk a batsman to avoid them being a risk, that a batter can't make a mistake and then hope to come back and redeem themselves in a later innings. You get in once. I'd also point out that even the positioning of the fielders is a tactical battle as they try to affect the shots of the batter, that it's more of a team effort than the mental duel between the pitcher and batter in baseball

      @cricketexplained8526 yeah, the main issue would be figuring out which leagues should be included, how many total teams should be allowed to compete and how many teams does each league get?
      I'm sure the IPL will get most likely 3, I don't even know if the PSL would be invited, BBL would probably get 2 teams and so would ECB but I don't know if they would choose teams from the Hundred or Blast. I think CPL gets one spot, same goes for SA20, MLC and ILT20 because all three leagues have IPL investors and they'd heavily push for it.
      After that it becomes much more tricky as to whether Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or other full member nations get a spot.

    • @AkilaJayasekera
      @AkilaJayasekera 6 місяців тому

      @cricketexplained8526 Obviously at present this would be in practical now but it may be something to aspire to.
      There is the potential amongst the affluent and growing North American South Asian diaspora for a league that would tap into the heritage and the sentiment that comes with West Indies cricket. A weekend following your team to Barbados or Antigua would be attractive not least for West Indies cricket and tourism.
      A team based in Florida, Texas, California, New York, Toronto and 5 West Indies teams could be attractive to a local and a worldwide audience

    We see this phenomena in Hockey all the time, with Canadian born players being more attracted to playing for US franchises, because hockey isn't as big in the US, in comparison to Canada which is crazy about the sport and with that comes media pressure, fanatical fanbases, and the added pressure to represent Canada as a whole.

    Cricket in USA will not get popularity unless the sport get reached to non South Asian, Non European, and Non Caribbean Decendents. US national cricket team is nothing but South Asian cricket team. Besides, the leagues have the worst grounds ever in the history of cricket itself. They need to fix all these. No point of bringing MLC, If you can’t support your grassroots players. No money in division cricket whatsoever. Not a single penny given to players to survive. Everyone play it like a picnic cricket. US cricket board need to support financially the local players. And stop politics in cricket.

      What are you on about? Many players have literally said that Grand Prairie Stadium is top notch and it's better than most stadiums in the Caribbean and every franchise team has already pledged to build their own stadiums with some getting done in the next few years.
      Stop looking at the state of cricket right now and making statements like “Cricket will never grow in the US” as it takes time to get non diaspora communities invested.
