Is your over the range microwave light not working? This video shows you an easy solution to the problem. Control boards can be pricey to replace, so I went for a more affordable solution that took far less time as well. This video also serves as a product review for RXWLKJ Wireless Motion Sensor LED Lights.
EXCELLENT video!!!! I've been having the exact same problem. Microwave is not even a year old yet and light stopped working. Thank you for the great info!!
So annoying, I feel your pain!! Glad I could help!
Same! But ours is less than 3 months old! 😥 and 😠
Oh well this will be in better place than the one towards the back anyway. Plus we've needed this kind of light in our pantry anyway 😊👍
I love this fix. The problem is I have to convince my wife of this solution. I have replace the bulb as well and didnt think of the control panel. I have already ordered and when it arrive i will put it in place and say I fixed it. LOL
Ba ha ha ha. Love it.
Bro, If I was close to you, I would buy you a case of beer. This solution is the best and not to mention more affordable. Thanks for the vid, I appreciate you.
No problem. I would gladly accept that case of beer. But this comment and a "thumbs up" will work. Thanks man.
Thank you so much for this solution! Did not want to pay over $100 repair for this problem!
No problem! Me neither!
This is wonderful. I just messed up my own lights by doing somehting very stupid ( not mentioning). But the new bulbs LED will not work now after the boo boo, This video just made my day. TY Ty TY!!
Ha ha glad I could help!
Man i know the booboo because i just did it too. 🔌hurt my own feelings😔 glad this video helped made me feel alittle better. I can fix my mistake.
@@makhinoel1ify I'm glad I'm not alone it my oopsie ;)
great solution! My light was out one day, then the next without thinking it came back on. Now it's back out so bet it's a board thing... love the idea of just getting these magnetic lights. thank you!
No problem. The boards are expensive, so I just figured it made sense. I made this video 3 years ago and my light is still working strong!
** 4 MONTH UPDATE = no issues with steam or cooking on the stove top. Light still working great.
Year and a half later. Still no issues.
3 years later. No issues! Ha ha. Used this around the house when we lost power last night. Came in handy!
@@fixitFlip How long does 1 charge last?
@@MinhTuanTerryTa That's a good question. I've never actually timed it with the light on. I would say I take it down to put it on the charger about once a week or so. I do not use the motion-sensor. I feel like that wears out the charge quicker. I just turn it on when working on the stove.
Thank you for the update!!!
Thank you for the great idea! I ordered two different types of bulbs that didn’t work😢. Love that it is rechargeable
No problem! Mine is still going strong!
You rock! I was going to try and figure out how to change socket....this was so much easier!! Thanks!
Thanks! Work smart not hard!! Ha ha.
😂 wow I laughed so hard, thank you! Brilliant idea!
Ha ha, work smart not hard, right?
Thx , awesome idea. Mine work but it’s not bright enough for me. I like everything super bright. And I actually even had a recess light installed above the micro hood on the ceiling of course, and found that didn’t help much. I’ll be buying this. Thx a million
No problem. Still using mine!
Haha this is what I'm getting as I just blew out the transistor on my control board
How did I do this? I unscrewed my bulb with the unit plugged in, and apparently the switch was on. Then when unscrewed the bulb, only the glass rotated and not the base so the leads shorted out and made a huge POP!! I didn't know the switch to the light was ON. So I made a nice 120VAC short circuit.
I put a new bulb in but it didn't work, as something burned out. I know how to fix the problem but since this is a fairly new microwave, I don't want to take it apart just yet, even though it's only like three screws.
So that's why I wanna get a simple, magnetic, light for this, plus it will be much brighter and we wanted it brighter anyway. 😊👍💪 So thanks for this video showing what may be a good solution, but i fo needva soft white, like 3000 k color temp.
Sorry about the bad break (bad pun also). But yes, these things seem to break a lot. I just replaced the control board on my stove and they are not cheap. This light will do the trick. Still using my same one!
@@fixitFlip Yes, it's a good remedy to the situation. We use the down light often, so I'll get one with a good size rechargeable battery - over 4000mAH so I won't have to charge it often. Thnx!
No problem and great idea!@@anthonyhfe6450
I'm in for one! Great idea - I was looking for videos on repair - this is much better.
Thanks, work smart, not hard!
Love it… this is how I fix anything and everything. I call it the “dad way,” “does the job,” or “lazy “geniusnessing” “ yes geniusnessing. (Root word genius, and finessing. It’s not the right way, but it’s not waste your time cheap way
EXACTLY. Work smart not hard (when you can)
Well DUH!! Jeeze! I have been searching the internet for HOURS trying to figure out a solution!!! I just bought a Vissani (Magic Chef Corp off-brand) OTR Microwave. The supplied light is WAY TOO DIM!! (There are 27 low light specific mentions in the reviews on HD! So it's not just me!!) And it's some kinda weird Integrated LED, not a screw in that can be easily replaced. One customer on the Home Depot item page said he replaced the whole light assembly with something he found on Amazon, but no link or other info. And you can't respond on the HD site. (Evidently, Home Depot is the major carrier for the Magic Chef / Vissani brand.)
Anyway! Way too long story short: Thank you for posting this no-nonsense, common sense, answer!! I'm sure by reading the comments that you have been a blessing to many of us!!!
Glad I could help!
Thank you! I was looking for something like this!!!
No problem! Glad I could help!
It’s sux they just don’t make quality appliances any longer my microwave is about 18 months old. I thought it was the light bulb, I tried to replace it but the bulb cracked at the socket. Ugh. I dug the socket out of the housing tried another light bulb and no luck. This is a solution I can live with. Thanks.
No problem. And totally agreed about modern appliances.
Our microwave is 20 years ago, still works fine but lights no longer work. I ordered this today, thanks to your informative video, as I can't see throwing something that works into a landfill.
I agree with you! If it ever does go kaput on you, just set it on the curb and I'm sure a scrap metal guy will pick it up to at least keep it out of the landfill. (I wish they made microwaves like they did 20 years ago. They don't seem to last that long anymore!)
Very cool tip - my problem is the light stays ON for me. Thanks to this vid, I'm guessing it's also a control board issue.
Yes, I would think so. Thanks for the kind note.
Thanks that was good advice because my light bulb won’t come out and I have the same microwave as you thanks again
No problem. Work smart not hard right!
When changing the light bulb on your microwave always unplug it first. Many people fail to do this and they inadvertently short out the part of the control board that powers the lights. If your good with a soldering iron you may be able to repair the control board. Sometimes it the foil pattern on the board will be broken in one spot.
Good tip! Thanks!
Ok but this is ridiculous….I do not know anyone who unplugs a power source to change a light bulb…appliances or not.
@@maryrenaud6732 it's correct though, any technician will tell you that you have a chance to blow the wires if you break the bulb from overtightening when installing a new one.
I think that's what I think I did. Thanks for making this comment.
Same problem with light won't turn off. I like your fix!
Ha ha thanks! Work smart not hard.
That's so amazing idea.
I have a question
The location is over the oven. Some people cooks soup and it heat up for a long time.
Is it safe near heat ?
I cook a lot of soup and mine has been up since 2018 with no issues!
This was very helpful. Thanks!
No problem!
I used to use ours as a night light so you could see your way around the kitchen at night. I might just go with an auto on/off nightlight in a nearby plug. I leave the light on all night. I think I'd be recharging that other light pretty often.
That's not a bad idea.
My light does work, but it stay on always. Not sure if its the light bulb. Thanks.
Awesome fix
Thanks.
Much appreciated!
No problem!
I had just had the same problem with the soft-touch light switch not making the usual beep sound and the stovetop lights not turning on. I unplugged the microwave for about 30 seconds and everything was back to normal.
Glad it went back to normal for you.
What’s the thoughts of leaving it plugged in? Related to the heat and moisture.
I can’t believe, that much for a microwave and the light won’t turn off after a couple of years. Our last one was still working when we got rid of it after 20 years. I don’t believe we ever even replaced the bulb.
You spend at minimum have the cost of the microwave to get it fixed.
They just don't make them like they used to.
What the name of this again I so badly need it

Great idea that’s what we are going with!! 😅
Easy peasy!
Thank you for this. For real!
No problem!
Thank you so much
No problem
When the Samsung Microwave over the range light is turned ON, it automatically turns OFF on its own after about 30 secs
What buttons do I push on the front panel to cancel that?
thank you so much for this idea - will do the same
No problem, glad to help!
Customers need to think twice before buying the Whirlpool microwave- wmh53521hz-5. When the light won’t shut off the only way to fix it is to buy a new motherboard, and they range in price from $156 to over $300 online plus tax and shipping. Also $150 for service call to install it. And it’s an inherent problem in this Whirlpool model. You can buy a new microwave for $450 or pay that much for repairs or buy an LED stick up under cabinet lights for $12 to $18 as a alternative solution.
Yep.
That’s funny I had the same problem and have an extra one those rechargeable lights! 😄
Ha ha, problem solved!!
What about the panel that shows the time not lighting up? The buttons all still work in the microwave turns on and Cooks but those lights aren’t coming on. Same model. Honestly piece of junk I’ve had nothing but trouble since I bought it with both storable stove and microwave and dishwasher as a matter fact
Most likely a circuit board issue and an expensive fix. Junk is correct!
@@fixitFlip it came back on. Maybe some connection is loose? I’m not messing with it abs praying it stays lit. Will never buy whirlpool again. To have issues with all 3 appliances in less than 2yrs is rediculous
@@hatchmando4918 I agree with you. 2 years is a joke. Glad it came back on for ya.
Thanks!
You're welcome!
A lot of the time it’s the relay. Easy to replace without replacing the whole board, but if your solution works for you then don’t bother.
Thanks for the input. Always welcome!
Can you tell us more? My light is off as well and I don't want to replace the whole board
@@deannicholas Depending on the model of microwave, you may have a relay or triac on the board. On some you can change it easily, in others you need to solder a new one. Still a relatively easy fix if you know what you’re doing. You will need to open up your microwave and locate the component though.
Unfortunately not much more I can help with since I can’t see the microwave or properly diagnose the true issue. In reality it could be anything. A fuse, the socket, loose wire.
Excellent! TY
No problem!
I thought you were going to show some trick for easily replacing the electronic control board. LOL
Ha, that's why I put the disclaimer out there in the beginning. This light is still going strong, though. It's a beast.
Thank you!
No problem!
What if you have a gas stove and all that heat that's my concern
Good question. I can't say for certain as I've never tried that. I would think that if you moved it around under the microwave so it wasn't directly over a burner you would be fine. But can't say for 100 % certainty.
This issue can be fixed for a 39 cent triac switch. Just need a volt meter to find which one is bad and solder new one in. Like a 10 min job.
Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for this! The Westinghouse micro replacement lighting panel was quoted to us at $300 (6/2021) but company will not sell to owner only to a certified technician, who in turn will charge you another $350. Just NOPE! Will try the LED fix.
Agreed! Way too much hassle for a microwave that will probably have some other issue in the future!
Good idea
Thank you.

Have the same microwave and the light doesn't work either
Junk.
Thanks man
No problem.
It's not a true fix though why is this the most recommended
Tried to clarify that in the first few seconds.
The light burned out after a few uses. It can't take the heat.
Interesting. Mine is still going strong since I made this video in July of 2018! It has to be recharged a little more frequently. All battery powered stuff slowly dwindles in power. But other than that it's done a good job.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have the same problem microwave less than a yr old Ugh L.G. next best resolution
Yes what a pain in the you know what!!
Not much of a fix.
Nope. I tried to be pretty clear with that disclaimer at the beginning of the video.
You are so so funny
Hey, it works.
Lmfao 😂😂😂😂
no it is the inside light
Easy fix, however this light gives off next to nothing in light. My iphone is brighter.
Well then hey, tape your IPhone up there.
