To anyone having issues getting the bulbs to go back in, (kinda) solution and explanation below. Just got through the same issue. I bought 2 halogen bulbs. Both broke trying to install. Today, I bought two LED versions from Home Depot (FEIT Electric G8 20watt). I realized that they didn't have the skinny part connected to the prongs, but instead had a thicker rubber body all the way down. Unlikely to fit. But, I still couldn't get the prongs in, so out of frustration, I tried pulling the white fixtures out with pliers. Bad move, because it shattered. But the good news was that I was fully able to see inside. The prongs get inserted between two metal tabs. The bottom half is fixed, and the top half is spring loaded pushing downwards. I suspect that the bulbs wouldn't go in because of excessive friction between the two pieces of metal, and/or because the upper springs were stuck. I took a small screwdriver (may have actually been an awl) and forced the tabs to separate. Then, basically, the freaking bulb went in. Remember when I said I screwed up and broke the white housing? Well, happy accident, because now the thicker LED bulb fits perfectly. Powered it on and everything works. Also, the rubbery LED bulb was a lot more durable, allowing me to shove it in without it breaking. Note: I highly recommend unplugging the microwave. Maybe waiting 10-30 mins for things to discharge. Before, when I broke the halogen bulb, I got a nice scary spark. I'll take anything apart, but I don't F with electricity. Also, be careful with the white housing. I thought it was plastic, but it seems it was some kind of porcelain or something. It will shatter, and it will be sharp. Idk if I want to necessarily recommend breaking the housing like I did, but if it's the only way, it's the only way.
I am having trouble replacing the bulb. We bought a halogen, and that did not go in. Literally, you can't make the prongs go into the holes so the unit is self-supporting. The new bulb fell behind the stove. So I decided to try replacing the old bulb just to practice. The old bulb will not go into either outlet. The prongs just bend. Is there a trick to this, or do I have a poorly made microwave?
That is odd. I would need to see what you're seeing. You could post pics or a video on my public group here: I want you to join my group on MeWe: mewe.com/join/shareyourtrade
When I inserted the new bulbs, the carrier for the bulb sockets came loose. As pushed on the bulb, something came loose. The carrier piece has the tab with the tapped screw hole to hold up the cover. Now, I cannot get the screw back to hold up the cover - the screw and the hole are not quite aligned. It looks like no opportunity to come into the cavity from above (inside the oven, with the door open). Any suggestions to reposition the carrier and keep it locked so I can get the screw back? Thanks.
I’m sure it’s user error, but I cannot get replacement bulb back back into “socket”. One bulb went out, I took bulb out so I would know what kind to get. Cannot get new bulb entered in that spot. So I took out the other old one (that was still working) out to practice with that one and now can’t get it back in either spot. I have one working old bulb, one working new (got it in enough to light up) bulb but cannot get either side back in now. I have tried to gently wiggle and jiggle side to side in case something inside isn’t lined up. Cannot imagine how this has happened because the microwave doesn’t get moved or messed with. Any thoughts?
@@becausestuffbreaks Thank you for your reply. Nothing seems to be broken or loose in any way. I spent a half hour tinkering with it, right hand kitchen glove on so I wouldn’t touch bulb (as instructed somewhere 🙄) and no luck. Hubs comes along this morning and gets both old and new bulbs in no problems. 😩 I literally think it’s his left handedness that did the trick. The bulbs almost look like they are on an angle, of which a left handed approach might have worked better for. So the moral of the story is, try both hands and another person if possible. Thanks again!
i just bout same microwave from a factory re-store the surface light is identican and doesnt work. Did yours just burn out or you just upgraded to led. i dont want to buy a pair if the mechanism itself isnt working, the micro works as it should otherwise
Have a GE microwave with prong contacts. What’s the part number I need to use as a replacement? The link in the video don’t work. Maybe the part number has changed?
When I'm trying to change I forgot to switch it off and it got shot with a spark ( the blub holder postive and negtive got touched) now it is not switching on is the fuse replacement works ??

We have a spacesaver above our stove and the two 40 W bulbs for the "surface light" burned out. I bought two 40W bulbs and they get way too hot after they're left on overnight. The inside feels warm to hot. The cover for the bulbs is almost too hot to touch! Is there something special about the expensive 40W bulbs at the appliance store? HELP!
Nothing special. I don't know why they use those outdated halogen bulbs. They don't last long, get very hot and waste a lot of energy. Go with the LED lights I used. I put the link to them in the description.
I love those Living Waters videos. If you don't know what bulb it takes, just take the bulb with you to Lowes or Home Depot or Ace Hardware and compare it to their selection. If you go with LED you might need to get dimmable.
Nicely done, to the point, without excessive yappage. Thank you for making my job easier :)
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
I guess you missed the bit in the beginning 😂
Thank you for making this video my girlie a** was about to call my warranty people 😂
Lol. I'm looking out for you ladies.
Is the LED brighter? Mine has 2. The stock bulbs have lasted forever but they're just not bright enough on the front burners, which I use the most.
My LED bulbs are brighter
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY 🙏 😊
Aww, thanks. God bless you too and thanks for watching!
Thank u for the video I ordered the bulbs u recommended via Amazon but they were too big sent them back for the smaller ones and it’s perfect
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!

I'm having the exact same issue. I had asked at the hardware store but forgot the bulbs to take with me
Exact same issue as described. The halogen replacement bulbs DON"T go into holes, fall out, and can't nest. 40 minutes just to try!
I gotta get my friend at the gas station to help with this microwave
Would like to upgrade the lumen output while I am changing out bulbs to LED. Have you seen higher lumen LEDs for this application? Thank you.
I haven't tried. Let me know if you find some

Where can I find these replacement bulbs and do they have a part number?

Is the plug loose and getting pushed back instead of staying in place?
