I've heard this story from several channels by now, but this one is truly most captivating! For one, the host allows himself to treat the person in question as protagonist instead of being slicky about it, and so the viewer can understand the story on more levels, including compassion. In modern days almost all media outlets act as if they're judges instead of journalists, attaching their judgement to everything they say, trying to push one or another agenda. It became really rare when human beings are treated as human beings and facts are given as is, without staining (or outright spoiling) them with the politically "correct" tint. Good job.

But that's the thing about storytelling. You can never be truly unbiased. The narrator is sympathetic to Ross' ideology and it shows. Again - I'm not saying that is wrong.
In order to protect your identity one of the first MAJOR things people were taught when the internet began was to NEVER use your real name online. Hence why "screen names" exist. Rookie mistake by Ross. What a slip up.
Im only 20 minutes in and i can confidently say that this is one of the best youtube video i've ever watched. Super high quality, great editing, very entertaining, exiting and just really good overall. Keep up the amazing work!
I had a history project back in school, on the actual Silk Road and trade routes from China. I had to write about 3 different benefits that the Silk Road provided. I remember being very confused in high school after I simply typed in "silk road 3" to my browser, and google was suspicious that I was a bot. Now, after watching this video, I understand lol.
Who just types the broad topic they are researching into Google? Would you not try to find historical websites with more specific questions? "Silk road 3" would not yield anything very constructive even if the illegal drug trade didn't exist.
The same way cops thought they could steal from this dude because they figured they would never get caught, it's the same reason why do many people claim they had 200k during their arrest but the cops say "no money was found on scene of arrest". This happens every day in every part of the world including united states where they take you cash and later either deny it or report a much much lesser amount and keep the difference.
They stole my cash, car and items that they wanted when they raided my place- office and home. I was found innocent of all charges. Never got anything back except my laptop.
Walter White and Ross Ulbrichts story are almost similar. Ross got caught by accidentally writing his mail, Walt got caught by accidentally leaving a book on his toilet.
Damn, this is God-level editing and storytelling! No one, as of now on UA-cam, would be able to even engage viewers the way you do. Keep posting, you are an inspiration to many.
This Ross case wasn’t about the people that got killed or addicted by using the Silk Road. It was about the government having a personal problem with Ross’ leverage.
@@neferpitou. I wouldn't entertain conspiracy theorists...they have a way of justifying every argument they make, whether it sounds nonsense talk to others or not, it works in their minds, so they talk themselves into believing it's fact.
This story is so crazy and interesting, I heard about Silk Road around the time Ross was arrested but I didn’t know all the crazy details until watching this. I definitely think those crooked agents should’ve gotten much more longer sentences for the part they played. Great job with the production and details of this video and this case
You know what was really fucking surreal dude? Being 17 and in high school and realizing I could try any drug on earth and that nobody would even fucking believe me if I TRIED to tell them. God I should write a fucking book it's so much more interesting and in depth..
I’ve heard this story 3 times and actually saw the movie but I was still confused (maybe I’m just a simpleton). I didn’t understand that it was one government guy that was killing or rather not killing all those people and a different one being the mole. You explained it so well and cleared up the confusion for me. Great story telling!!
I am a straight-laced, religious prude. I never so much as say naughty words (and my "naughty" list is longer than most people's LOL). But I have zero respect for laws. I follow them so I don't go to jail, but they have zero legitimate authority. This case breaks my heart. The people who put him in jail are evil. THAT is what my religious beliefs and common sense tell me.
@@AubreyWilkinsWurstenfor real, the cabaal of plutocrats that rule the government have laws to keep us alive so they can farm us of taxes, as soon as anyone becomes a nuisance they won't hesitate to kill
I learned a couple things from this if your gonna run a illegal business do your business somewhere private really private and another thing never keep hard evidence like chats and especially diaries
I have to say the key to this channel is the narration. Oh the stories are great but it's how they are told. Such passion, such nuancances, pitch perfect, inflections on point...Keep up the good no excellent work!!
So the govt agents got 6 years and Ross got 240 years… seems fair. To me if a federal agent is caught using their position for power and corruption THAT should be minimum life sentence.
Correction: you could not buy/sell items that weren't drugs. Otherwise your item would be shut down from the inventory. The rumor that you could buy such items or services were most likely made from confusion over other websites similar to the Silk road that would have no limits on what could be sold/buy.
That is not true at all. If you look at a snapshot of the website you will clearly see that there are multiple categories of items available for sale, although 70% of it was drugs.
So I'm sick in bed and found your channel about 9 hours ago. In between sleeping and "other activities", I've been bingeing ever since. Love your channel and thank you for keeping me company. 💕
I have a few doubts about the corrupt agent. How come the bribed agent working on the case didn’t inform Ross that he was under surveillance and operation that followed. Even if he did not suspect that Ross was the Silk Road boss, he should have kept him informed on this since It concerns his extra income
There is a missing girl, 26 years old, and she was missing in a very strange way. When her mother went to look for her, the policemen and the FBI were not cooperative, on the contrary, they wanted to hide the evidence, and even the lawyers were rejecting this case, and they also found the remains of the bones of this girl, but not complete. The skull was separated from the spine, and they did not find the whole bones, and the details of the story are very shocking. We want justice for this girl, Jawaher Al-Hajji.
I've always felt like the sentence Ross was handed was pretty steep. I could definitely see 20 years then parole... But life with no parole is pretty brutal. That's just my take anyway... It's a very fascinating story and I've recently read the book "American Kingpin" which covers this entire case very thoroughly. Good video. New subscriber! 👍
This comment gives out the same vibes as ross' initial take on matters that led to him getting himself into more trouble....I suggest you tread lightly soldier
I don’t agree, The judge even repeated the part of ordering the murder of 5 people, if you take that part into account then he go what he deserves. This guy probably would have kept “ordering” murders maybe even actually get someone killed.
He tried to kill at least 5 people. His website led to people buying drugs that ruined people's lives. He's responsible for more damage and carnage than you think. It's short sited to see why the sentence was this harsh, and copycat idiots won't pop up when they hear about this story
The father of the kid who died gave a speech at my high school a few years ago. He is so brave for coming up in front of many people who are the same age his child was at his death to help protect future generations and help us learn from his story.
mayve he needed to vent it was his child..maybe do it before your child dies...esp when its from perdie phaarma and then black tar herion...they dont give shit about drigs..thjey love them...as long they sell them. no one bought from silk road
Yeah what Ross did through Silk Road the Canada British Columbia government gives these illegal substances for free now. And to underage kids without parental consent. You guys got to google it, hell on earth. The police for all of last year stood in front of the court house and give away ur choice of cocaine, heroine or crack. It’s legal here to use and carry and sell. I pray no one copies Canada bc these little kids are all dying from fentanyl and meth young young 😢 and the government gives it away free without parental consent now it’s legal
So glad i came across this channel many months ago. The documentaries posted on here are best to none. From the downfall of YAHOO to silk road. Even though I've never heard of silk road before i still watched all 44 minutes of the video. The story telling is on another level!
He sealed his fate as soon as he told his girlfriend. I can relate to his views but he should have tried to block gun trade and made a more detailed rating system. I remember a few of my friends used it back in high school. I think it worked fine for them. Lol.
If he would have taken a page out of the CIAs… I mean Satoshi’s playbook and remained anonymous from the very beginning, there is a slight chance he would not have been caught.
The problem with this case was the timing. Ross was ahead of his time. I live in Miami, I don’t consume drugs, I’m not even sure how legal it is here, but I see plenty of stores around the city selling weed (or at least weed equivalents like Delta 8). What is the difference between that and this Silk Road? Timing is everything in life.
Fascinating storytelling and work putting it all together. Morale of the story: if you wanna impede in the government business, be a smart Alec first. But of course the gov have illicit tools to know things including use of magic. You can ask Edward Snowden if in doubt. Thanks for this production 🙏

Silk Road 4 is currently active. URL is currently unknown to me due to losing it but I have heard that the Silk Road 3 website has it, or at least it did about a year ago. It has probably been removed from the site/shut down to keep the feds on the trail of something that never stops moving. By the way, Silk Road (at least to my knowledge) never sold weapons, hitman services, or anything else that has a high probability of being used to hurt/kill someone. (Part included for legal reasons) I have been on the silk road website. I have not purchased anything on the website. I will never purchase anything on the website. I do not want anything to do with illegal drugs, counterfeit money, hacked Paypal accounts, leaked credit card info, or anything else Silk Road has previously, is currently, or will sell in the future.
Sadly adults do not even have control over their own bodies, we are the governments children that never grow up. If not silk road then the store down the street for glue to sniff. Kids take cough syrup and drink alcohol! Instead of trying to stop it we need to legalize all plants and teach kids what's what.

I had no idea ALL of this had happened I only knew it got shut down. I can't believe this hasn't been made into a movie by now.
Can you just imagine how Ross felt when he realized that whole argument in the library was for him, watching his laptop being taken away? He must have pissed his pants. Ross got the right sentence for one reason only. He thought he had five people killed.
What’s worse: the 5 people Ross THOUGHT he killed, or the literal hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people the government that arrested him has killed for worse reasons?

I had a history project back in school, on the actual Silk Road and trade routes from China. I had to write about 3 different benefits that the Silk Road provided. I remember being very confused in high school after I simply typed in "silk road 3" to my browser, and google was suspicious that I was a bot. Now, after watching this video, I understand lol.
Who just types the broad topic they are researching into Google? Would you not try to find historical websites with more specific questions? "Silk road 3" would not yield anything very constructive even if the illegal drug trade didn't exist.
He was probably in like 5th grade or something.

Correction: you could not buy/sell items that weren't drugs. Otherwise your item would be shut down from the inventory. The rumor that you could buy such items or services were most likely made from confusion over other websites similar to the Silk road that would have no limits on what could be sold/buy.
