Biblical Christianity is true (The words that Jesus AS spoke only). The inventions of Paul are not. And the triune interpretation of God and the original sin that emerged later in the 4th centure are not true either.

I used come from a mega-prosperity gospel church. They taught that if your prayers werent answered, you were not praying hard enough. They even recorded how long we prayed each day.

My grandma has a long history with these megachurches/cults. My grandfather was killed by a cult leader in Texas for trying to leave. My grandma tithed. So much she was left with nothing by the time she got to her death bed. She gave everything & returned had nothing.

@@HaYahwarrior That's a really good question! For me, I would say it's a case of not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Many people have definitely twisted the Bible to justify their own horrific ideas, and it makes me really angry that they have done that! As Hans mentioned, in the Bible, we find Jesus frequently opposing the megachurch pastors of his day, the Pharisees. Here's an example (forgive the length of it, I just think it does a great job of showing Jesus' take on things):
As Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee invited Him to dine with him; so He went in and reclined at the table. But the Pharisee was surprised to see that Jesus did not first wash before the meal.
“Now then,” said the Lord, “you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You fools! Did not the One who made the outside make the inside as well? But give as alms the things that are within you, and you will see that everything is clean for you.
Woe to you Pharisees! You pay tithes of mint, rue, and every herb, but you disregard justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former.

Growing up and remaining in the christian church, these churches are the ones I was warned against the most. This predatory practice is so heartbreaking to me, so many of these people truly believe that they can simply pay God off.. It hurts.
It is sad. It's lack of discernment and as Jesus said not knowing the scriptures. We have to get our EYES OFF MAN AND LOOK UNTO JESUS THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH. Hebrews 12:2
Holy shit, I'm from Malaysia, I grew up in church but left, and now on my journey of deconstructing and healing my religion traumas. This video is blowing my mind!
1) Joel Osteen, Todd White, Benny Hinn, these are all pastors that my church and many other churches in the Asia follow.
2) The lay-hand-fall-back thing, istg a lot of pastors love to push you to make you fall. And when I stood my ground not wanting to fall, I got told to just allow myself to fall because only then I will allow the Holy Spirit to work on my heart.
3) The Tithes: They equate the amount of faith you have to how much you give! Telling you not to be selfish about your money with God. And because I wanted to show God how much faith I have and how grateful I am to Him, and not wanna be "selfish", of course I will feel pressure to give.
4) The "miracles": The leg growing miracle I've seen it in front of me, this trick really is being used everywhere in different churches. I also remember Benny Hinn was the hot topic in many churches as well and they held so so many healing crusades. I was young and would ask questions like "What if those people don't get healed?", then I would get answers like "it's either their faith isn't strong enough, they don't believe or it's not God's timing yet".
Not having any breakthroughs in life? Oh it's because you have harden your heart and don't allow God to work in your life; You're struggling financially? Remember to give tithes because all the money you have is given to you by God, so you should give back to Him so He will give you tenfolds; You're not healed? Oh it's because you don't have enough faith etc
Do you realize all these things, they will ALWAYS explain to you in ways to make you feel guilty, awful, to inevitably blame yourself while at the same time telling you you're blameless in God's eyes like??? It's so absurd that it's maddening.
I am really sorry for what you went through there are many people with similar stories. I hope that you are still trusting in Jesus Christ. The lord is very much against these people I am praying for thier judgement to be soon and that God will put them out of business. I hope they repent but I dont think they can. Just know this is very similar to the new age law of attraction it is gnostiscm at its finest. God is good and He saved me from the new age and the word of faith movement.

He's used to communicating with a large audience where exaggeration of facial expressions is effective. He hasn't learned to tone that down for person to person settings. He's also totally out of touch with reality. Like many false teachers I'm sure he started well, then got lost along the way when money, power and influence clouded his judgment.

Exactly what I was thinking. Kenneth Copeland has no conscience and no shame. When I see preachers like him and Benny Hinn, 2 Peter 2:1 comes to mind - "In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping." They have all the time in hell to think about all the people they fooled."

I do not like Joel Osten neither..... But I met a man I jail that we started to talk about past stuff and he looked like all his skin was scarred he said from a very bad 18 wheeler accident. He used to be a driver and had a horrible accident the 18 wheeler got shredded. He was like 6 months in a coma. And Joel Osten church paid for him to stay connected on life support. Like thousands of dollars per week, And a week before they were scheduled to stop the life support machines he came back to life.
So I'm kinda divided on Joel Osten. But to me yes he is a psychologist and is fake. But that man I met in jail kinda shocked me.

One of the churches I grew up in was a small little church in Virginia. I remember when they finally said they had to build a new space and upgrade because the congregation and youth ministry had gotten too large.
The preacher even said "we will only build the new building with donations. If it takes us a decade, it takes us a decade" --> and sure enough, the pastor was extremely transparent and it took forever to build that new church.
"The contractors asked if I wanted stained glass, chandeliers, all these frills... I said I just want comfortable chairs" he'd give little updates like that!
He owned a little house out in the country, drove an old car, wore an old suit... a breath of fresh air in a religion that is more and more being consumed by rampant wealth/corruption and hate.
My grandpa was the same way. I’m disgusted at the pastors who take donations and use them for themselves

As a christian myself it really saddens me to see how many of my siblings in Christ have been led astray. Jesus taught us about love and compassion and how money corrupts. This is not the way.
The entire world revolves around the false idol of the dollar.
There’s almost nothing in the prosperity teachings about giving to others, being part of your community, loving others such as neighbours and strangers.
I don’t mind some of the prosperity teachings but seeing the way these preachers live while others in their own community go hungry is absolutely shameful.

Yeah it's the literal opposite of Christianity. It does say in the Bible that this would happen. False teachers, people walking after there own lusts and all that.
This is where I draw the line actually. Because many times, it's like, Jesus Himself has lost. I'm really sad, but even I couldn't bargain for the reality like Jesus had said, a healthy community of Christian.

@@OPHANIM98 we would say that despite the despicable track record of the Catholic Church and all that it's guilty of, there is simply no evidence of anything resembling widespread manipulation of the Bible.
How do we know that?
Cause we have thousands of whole copies and fragments of Biblical New Testament texts from the ancient world (a fragment is any copy of a work that has not fully survived to the modern day, so that even a 249-page copy of a 255-page book still counts as a fragment). Greek texts alone number more than 5,000 with another almost 10,000 in other languages, from Latin to Syriac and Coptic.
These documents were all written down when the Christian Church was still very decentralised, long before it had anything even remotely resembling any central authority capable of making uniform manipulation of texts across the Roman Empire. Islam had the Rashidun Caliph Uthman, who was able to create a standard Quran to be used throughout the Islamic world, and then burn any copies that did not agree with what his scholars had created. Christianity had no such person(s) or group(s) that could accomplish anything even remotely similar.
Using these original 'pure' copies, we can conclude that the Bible has remained intact, with only about 40 verses in the entire New Testament in question.
For the Old Testament, it's even easier. We have the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint. These are copies that are even older than the Christian Church. The Dead Sea Scrolls were about as old as Jesus Himself (give or take a few decades) and the earliest version of the Septuagint about 2 centuries older.
The Dead Sea Scrolls contained multiple copies of almost every book of the Old Testament in Hebrew, and had remained undisturbed for almost the entirety of Christian history. The Church cannot manipulate what it doesn't know exists.
The Greek Septuagint is so widespread among Jews and Christians that we have too many copies from the ancient world to have been changed uniformly at any point.

My brother was mentally handicapped. We went to one of those healing services and right in the middle he jumped up and wanted to be healed. He came on the stage and the preacher touched his head and he fell back like everyone else. He wasn't screened and he wasn't faking it. Of course, he wasn't healed either.

I was raised under christianity and I'm lucky my family wasn't on the extreme side because I'm flooded with problems such as autism, ADHD, seizures as I would learn later in life, hypoglycemia, chronic allergies and a missing testicle which I don't know if it's undescended or if it simply never developed. I also learned that I was bisexual as a teen which doesn't play out well with extreme evangelicals

@@outofcompliance1639 While I am not religious I do appreciate the advice but I am already at peace with my issues my seizures rarely happen anymore, I embrace my autism and ADHD as they aren't necessarily bad they make me view the world from a different perspective bringing new ideas where others wouldn't, my allergies have also been dealt with by medication and I've been missing that testicle for as long as I remember so I really don't mind it.

So what if a gay person gets hurt if they know God hates their sexually immoral activity? So what if a person gets hurt if they find out that their Buddhism/hinduism was actually a form of devil worship? If you've never read the children's book "Silverwing", you should. It follows a young bat who gets lost during migration, and the misfits and mysticism is straight out of a Don Bluth film. One segment Shade and Marina, the leads, encounter a group of bats that believed they would turn into humans, wishing so hard they chanted and sang and echolocated visions of what they wanted reality to be. There were leaders who preyed on the flock's gullibility, and then there were the flesh eaters...
Awesome book series thar introduces all sorts of free thinking style ideas, from believing in yourself even when no one does to when is it right to do something wrong. The 90s YA books were literally a different breed.
There was a clip of a pastor saying that if you didn't tithe, you might as well be a thief. And said that "he (the one who didn't tithe) might as well stick his hand on your pocket and take your money".
This would've been a great clip to include in this. It just goes to show how much they worship the mighty dollar instead of the mighty God.
As a Christian, I’ve always avoided this. My family purposely went to smaller family churches against the mega churches in my area because we felt that it was easier to connect to people who were literally in our tax bracket.
Our pastor made less than us and it was nice to see someone walk the walk. This is disgusting

I'm sorry just cause you were called by God to preach his word means that you must live a life a poverty. Now I will say my father is a pastor. He has been a pastor my whole life. Now does that mean that my family has to grow up poor because my father job. My family did happen to be poor and it was extremely difficult on my family. My father would work also close to 60 hours a week. Has to sacrifice his time and his family time to be there for the people to learn about Jesus and help people. Listen I'm honestly sorry that your pastor is forced to be in a lower tax bracket. I would question your church make sure they take care of him and I don't know what your job is. However if you don't have a really great job I would ask to see how much work your pastor actually has to do. You would be surprised. I would just question yourself about why you believe that your pastor should be in poverty. Now I'm not saying that pastors need to be rich like these guys. These guys are scammers using Gods name to make money and they will have to face God one day and tell him why they did this. However I'm asking you to question your reasoning on why pastor need to live in poverty because that like saying Doctor should live in poverty cause getting money to help someone is wrong

When I was younger and still went to Church with my dad there was this priest that was always nice and asked everyone how were things going and, at the end, a bunch of kids and teens would swarm him, some knew him for a long time and helped him manage things. He even helped my dad when he was sick by bringing him food and goods. That's a real priest, one that does those things without wanting money in return. He's the only priest I've ever liked, very nice guy. Can't forget the soccer matches behind the building.

No fallible man can speak for Christ but Christ alone. Praising and praying to the saints and angels is a blatant disrespect to God, who demands all glory. I went to a megachurch. We were young newlyweds and we didn't have much money. We had a new baby. The church wanted to build a newer, bigger sanctuary, but they wanted to pay cash. We were exhorted to tithe our gross income (so that God would give us a gross blessing), PLUS give offerings. We gave, and it was difficult. When the sanctuary was done, I was glad we could keep our money now. But then the pastor said, "Now that you know you are capable of giving, you need to keep giving at that amount". And you can be sure: the pastor and the staff all had nice homes, nice cars, nice suits, and nice things. But we felt guilty and materialistic if we spent our money on anything even halfway nice for ourselves. We were doing all our shopping at thrift stores and discount groceries. That was a long time ago. We don't to go church anymore, and our policy is not to give money to people who have MORE than us. We give our money to people who help widows and orphans in 3rd world countries. They truly do need it, and appreciate it.

As a Christian myself, the prosperity gospel is definitely a problematic one. As Christians, we called, not to have riches on earth, but heavenly riches instead. We are called to help others, not profit off of them.

I'm an atheist but doesn't the Bible say to store up treasures in heaven and not on earth? If I remember correctly, Jesus said it's very hard for rich people to enter heaven. It makes sense though, if you're rich it's pretty clear where your priorities are.

I knew an old preacher whose greatest fear was that someone might think he was doing it for the money, He kept a regular job to pay his bills and take care of his family. He drove old cars that he worked on himself. He knew one day he’d be gone and the church would have to pay someone, so to train them for that he took a salary - and gave it back,
He hated passing the plate and rarely did it. Instead, at the end of the service he’d say, ‘the offering plate is by the door if you want to use it.

My mother took me to a church when I was 14 because I was struggling with severe SI. After the service, she took me down where I kneeled and had the preacher and several other people sit around me with their hands on my head, shoulders and chest. They began speaking in tongues and then after the preacher hit my forehead so hard that I fell back. Everyone began cheering and hugging me. But all he did was hit me when I wasn't expecting it. I was sick thinking that these people genuinely believed that he had done anything.

How are these mega churches any different than "normal' churches? followers in both cases are still expected to path tithes to an institution preaching about an unproven dogma. I’m Nigerian, and all my life I’ve lived in the Church by Bishop Oyedepo. In Nigeria, I went to the church, in fact I was born there, In America, MD I’ve been in thins church for a very long time. And I have to say, it works. I feel like Bishop is different, he tells us that sowing your seed is putt8ng what you have into the church. Whether it be by cleaning or using money., and I don’t mean this as an endorsement but I’ve been cleaning the church for years. As I’m doing it, I pray for all my heart desires, and I try to put my heart in it, and everything has been good and going well for me as I pray. I’m not saying because of bishop Oyedepo. I’m saying because of the teachings that God has given through him.

Yep. My granpda was super religious, and we used to go to church with him as kids. Some mega church in Illinois called life changers, (pretty sure joel olsten preached there). Well he ended up getting really sick, and all but refused/avoided seeing doctors saying "God will heal me". Well that didnt happen, he died shortly after from several cancers he didnt know about. We tried telling him that God gives you skilled, knowledgeable doctors, who are there to heal you etc.. But that only works if you actually let them help🤦♂️

American here, I never in my life thought about how insane these must seem to those not from here. It's weird to most of us too, but nothing is really done about it.
I grew up as a child of pastors who preached the prosperity gospel. During 2008 my oldest brother sold drugs because he never wanted to be poor again and because as an atheist he would have not been able to be blessed by giving to the church. I struggled with endometriosis and never felt better through prayer. All pastors i know personally, through my parents, have terrible relationships with their children. They act as if they are superior and that if their children don’t work in the ministry these children are disappointments or even demon possessed. Most of these pastors are also abusive to their children. Child protective services showed up at my house at least 1 to 4 times a year till I was 18. If you wanna be a good Christian donate into your community and not into the hands of abusive money hungry men.

Please be careful what you share. To say that being a Christian "is about suffering" sends a dangerously deceptive message to potential seekers and is completely Biblically wrong. "By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:35 ESV), "For God so loved the world that He gave...", etc. show that it's about LOVE not suffering! (And yes I HATE the prosperity perversion -- definitely won't call it a gospel -- as much as anyone)

I was severely burned at age 7. My mother was repeatedly pressured to take me to a faith healer. She finally asked if I wanted to try it. I said no. Even as a child I could see these people were monsters. It hurt to know the depths of my mother's desperation. She'd have done or given anything to ease my suffering. This is what they depend on, gleefully, lustily feed on. I agree with James. This is true evil.

They will prosper because they don't care what they do to other people--they lie, they cheat, they exploit the vulnerabilities of desperate and lonely people. I’m an aircraft mechanic and work on all kinds of private jets around the country. We did a job for about a week on Kennith Copelands G450 at his private airport. It was sickening and to top it all off when we finished the job the church tried to get the company to donate all parts and labor to the church. I don’t remember the exact number but it was pretty routine maintenance and the bill was probably around $300,000
This video was exceptionally well done. Wonderfully researched. I will pray for all of our brothers and sisters in Christ who are misguided to giving their money to someone who isn’t putting it to charity or good works.

I do believe these people know what they're doing. Extreme levels of narcissism, an ego unrivaled. Its the same thing as self help gurus and cults. They've seen that they can manipulate certain people through the guise of religion.
I feel that some (not all) of these people are so deep in their own bullshit that they believe it themselves. People distance themselves from their own wrong doings all the time, explain it away. Most cult leaders didn't just serve this shit up to there disciples / congregation / whatever you want to call them. They sat at the table and ate it up with everyone else. It doesn't make it okay, in fact i think it makes it worse. A lie is more convincing when it comes from someone who believes it to be true.
As a christian I will say the mega church as ruined what church is supposed to be, greedy people who only care about money who disguise themselves as pastors is really sad to see and I pray that they will all see that what they are supporting is wrong and that the church will be what it was always supposed to be, a place of love and not a place of greed and false preachers.

I've only ever been in a megachurch once and what sticks out to me wasn't the actual church sanctuary with the pews and worship stages, but the gigantic lobby of the megachurch. It resembled a mall food court, complete with skylights, numerous tables and chairs, gifts shops and bookstores, sandwich shops and coffee stands (all of which were staffed by unpaid volunteers) and there were ATM kiosks everywhere--but they didn't dispense any cash. They were designed solely to take donations from your debit card to the church. It was obscene, a monument to capitalism.
All a mall of merchandise and no money back.

I'm so glad I landed on this video. It really exposes these "fake pastors" and all their prosperity gospel stuff. Someone literally preaches to you about wealth and giving to the poor yet he can't even donate to a charity cause and moreover the congregation he is preaching is way poor and needy.
What I hate about it the most, is that these churches create a bad image for actual Christianity. As a Chrisitian myself I'm really thankful for this video James! I wish you the best!

As someone who was heavily involved in the worship music industry for most of my life, it's not that these churches are creating a bad image. This IS the entire image of Christianity. These mega pastors may be going farther than others, but the entire religion is built upon removing your sense of self worth. It's incredibly manipulative.
According to Islamic teaching one has to give 2.5% of his or her excess wealth each year to needy... Six types of people are not entitled like, father, grandfather, son, daughter, mother, and the last category is Family of Prophet (these people, one can give gift) .... The most important ones are ones' relatives like brother, sister, uncle, aunts and the community... Then the poor student who study Islamic teaching and mostly cannot earn enough due to studies...Then so on... So the money received by church must be used in helping poor among church members and in community and not to make the priests more wealthy....

I live in Houston, born and raised and when hurricane Harvey , one of the worst natural disasters on record hit, Joel Osteen refused to open his church as a shelter for the thousands of Houstonians who lost their houses because he didn't want his carpeting to be ruined. After he was confronted about it by local news stations, he had a change of heart and opened his church to victims. So gross.

What's sad is that The Church doesn't belong to any man, it is God's Church -- it's called His Bride. However, many of these men aren't even called or chosen by God.
