All we bring is some emergency rations, heath kit, radio, and one thing of our choice (wether it be a tool or toy is up to us and dad usually brought a hunting rifle while i brought fishing line) and then we would be gone for a month. I found a lot of inner peace on these trips and plan to do this with my kids someday.
That no cloth from Ahrlin comment got a chuckle out of me. went caving with him once. you guys are making me feel like I need to drop in on the local grotto meeting again.
Anyone else have a hard time watching the tight passages and get claustrophobic? I'm rather new to caving - been to Lava Beds National Monument on two trips, 4 days total time and enjoyed the "wild caves" but nothing this tight other than a few spots here and there for a short part. Back to the claustrophobia - I have had to stop watching 5 different times at various tight spots and do something else for a bit, then come back and push myself to watch a bit more. I know as I've caved more and gained more experience, that has gone away some, and I can understand how one can figure out to move and fit. Hah, even watching this video, my "tolerance" has built a bit more and more and no pauses after the rock removal. Can't wait to go on a trip with a local grotto. Thanks for sharing such cool lava tube footage!
That kid is a "beast" on successfully negotiating those squeeze spots. Him being under 5' in height and maybe breaking 100lbs sopping wet with the build of a taunt whip cord (absolutely no disrespect for his sized or build) added to the fact his level of maturity exhibited throughout every video he partakes in is astounding. Having caved myself off & on for years (wet & dry caves, various types of abandoned mines & extensive underground urban exploring) I find it exhilarating to discover places & behold sights that relatively few humans on Earth will ever have the pleasure of knowing of,let alone seeing in person. So...I thank you for refreshing my mind and helping me rekindle & revist fond memories of wonderful times before the tragedy struck.

Watching this gave me anxiety, I have no idea how you do what you do but I find it fascinating. I used to get claustrophobia from the top deck of a bus...
When I went caving as a teen" with instructors ", we worked our way through the cave until we go to the " letterbox" . It was a really small section of the cave and my friends had to take their helmets off and push them through before trying to get their body through. I was the typical skinny teen and thought I should be able to get through somehow but one of the guys in front of me was not so thin and got stuck. We were all behind him so we could not get through. He was stuck there for over an hour and was freaking out. We could not pull him back and they could not pull him forward. Eventually we got him out but thought he was going to be stuck for good. None of us ever went caving again.lol
That's the thing with 2 people. It's a double edged sword. Yes that other person may be able to help you because you CAN'T help yourself... But it's also yes that person might cause you to be stuck & pinned into an area where you CAN'T help them or yourself. There's PLENTY of stories about boulders dislodging onto the person feet once they pass under it. So they're pinned with no room to get their hands to their feet & well... that's all folks!

4:42 this gives me panic attacks, i got wraped in covers and almost lost it when i was a kid. i lost my bearings in the woods when surrounded by thick brush and panicked, i've panicked in minecraft and the forest, i can't do tight spaces and heights.
That is the fourth video of yours that i finished watching, counting the first one that was recommended yesterday. I love all your experiences so far, you have a wholesome family, it is also very lovely to find your father down in the comments in the pinned comment. This caving was so much fun and adventurous! All the more power to you and your family!
It's a good question and an interesting thing to wonder about. Because there is no next visitor. What we mark, is marked in our description of the cave as well as the maps made. This is essentially insider information as the general public does not go in caves... and if they do go in caves they don't go in ones like this!
My first thought about this was years ago when I heard about the Nutty Putty incident. I could be wrong but it seems like from what I heard the caver who died took a "wrong turn", (not where he thought he was going), into an area where there had been trouble before. And I wondered why that wasn't blocked or warnings posted since it was a pretty popular cave.
What a cool father/son duo! You guys are awesome. I just found your channel tonight and have really enjoyed watching something I wouldn’t do in a million years haha. Just stumbled across you guys' videos and I've always wanted to know.. does panic ever set in when you reach the end of a cave and realise you have to go through the same tight squeezes and awkward positions to get yourself out? The washing machine at 3am: tud* tud* tud*
got me cracking ahahah I didn’t expect that
I never get bored watching your content, I don't know how anyone can do this but the things you find in those caves are incredible!
Someday we’ll show the amazing photos of cave features. Mind blowing!
I was a roof control specialist in the mining industry for 15 years and worked in some low coal n some sketchy places but this is nutty you guys! Please be careful! I can see your very passionate about what you do and you seem to know what your doin. Definitely some wild content
I started to enjoy your videos I watch it everyday now every time in bed and every time I go smoke cigarette
We’ll try to keep up with your habit. 😂
I love how you guys have such good mindsets despite your fear ^^!
Thank you!!
You guys bring me anxiety but I like it lol
You guys are amazing. Super brave, especially Jacob. Your 1 of my new favourite channels. Keep up the good work. The commentary on your videos is always indepth and inspiring.
Wow thank you for all the very kind words.
You guys are incredible! I just became a subscriber to the channel. I can't stop watching these videos. You all are some of the bravest cave explorers I've ever seen. My hats are off to you all. I could never do this stuff cuz I'm very claustrophobic but I love watching yall explore. Keep it up!!!
Thank you so much and welcome to the darkness.
Watching this gave me anxiety, I have no idea how you do what you do but I find it fascinating. I used to get claustrophobia from the top deck of a bus...
When he said I don’t wanna panic on camera cause there are like 20,000 people watching I looked how many people watched
Holy just no
My biggest fear would be exactly that diying not because of me but because of this
@@Maria-sg3zn Was not a good feeling being stuck Maria. Take care and thanks for the comment!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's the thing with 2 people.
It's a double edged sword.
Yes that other person may be able to help you because you CAN'T help yourself...
But it's also yes that person might cause you to be stuck & pinned into an area where you CAN'T help them or yourself.
There's PLENTY of stories about boulders dislodging onto the person feet once they pass under it. So they're pinned with no room to get their hands to their feet & well... that's all folks!
I love your channel! I get my Adrenaline fix just watching. No way I could do what y’all do but can watch and enjoy thank you so much!
Holy crap, I’m can’t stop watching your videos, I’m intrigued and terrified at the same time. You both are amazing and have incredible nerve, skill and great judgement.Bravo Zulu.
Thank you so much those are all very kind words. Lots and lots more content to come. If you get real crazy, there's a second channel.
You are going to be very big if you're consistent. These videos are very enjoyable
Thanks. Caving is fun but making videos is very very hard!
I literally had a panic attack half way threw, I had to keep looking around to make sure I wasn’t in that cave with them
You are the best father, I will never be able to give my kid such wonderful experiences. Nature is beautiful, I really hope the next generation will keep realizing and won't end up into the metaverse having zero connection to what is real
We shall see.
I feel blessed, Jacob will not get lost in the metaverse.
@@CalvinHikes A father, that's NOT afraid to be a father! God bless you!
This is the best channel on the Tube. I love your videos! The sounds of joy and relief when you guys break through! 😂
Thank you!
I found your channel randomly through the YT algorithm and I can’t stop watching your videos now. Amazing! I’d never do any of this as I have bad claustrophobia, but I get excitement watching you two work together!
I think this is most claustrophobic "Caveman Hikes" to Date
Felt like it. But worse is coming.
4:42 this gives me panic attacks, i got wraped in covers and almost lost it when i was a kid. i lost my bearings in the woods when surrounded by thick brush and panicked, i've panicked in minecraft and the forest, i can't do tight spaces and heights.
NOBODY, The washing machine at 3 am.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that had me rollin
Thank you! Very few people have appreciated that wonderful joke!
You guys have an amazing control over your emotions that is so motivating!
That is the fourth video of yours that i finished watching, counting the first one that was recommended yesterday. I love all your experiences so far, you have a wholesome family, it is also very lovely to find your father down in the comments in the pinned comment. This caving was so much fun and adventurous! All the more power to you and your family!
Imagine this kid at school in geology class or telling the classmates how the weekend was.
these guys are so fun to watch i love the commentary, makes the anxiety of the tight crawls not so bad when people are talkin to ya
“This room is SKETCHY!”
5 seconds later: “welp imma poke around”
I'm now addicted to these videos.
Living vicariously through them.
Is it odd that I'm now dreaming of caves?
Point of fact, we never dream of caving.
You guys are crazy! I have never had any interest in personally doing this but it's fascinating watching you guys!
thank you for my daily dose of anxiety..u guys are awesome and very brave
Oh my days I honestly couldn't think of anything worse just watching this freaks me out !!!
I always wondered why experienced mapers/cavers don’t mark the entrance of “sketchy” rooms/holes to warn the next visitor?
It’s great you let your son also pitch in on the commentary. He’ll learn best that way, especially through repeating lessons! Keep it up, fellas!
Thank you for the kind words and welcome to the dark frontier.
@@CalvinHikes you’re very welcome. I need to apologize though as I watched another one of your videos and realized it’s an uncle/nephew duo! Might as well be father and son with the lessons he’s learning! What a cool fearless family!
I’m sure you get the father/son comments quite often though lol
Keep up the awesome work guys, amazing tours for a claustrophobic like me who would never be able to see these caves myself.
I cant usually watch this stuff. But the way you explain this makes me so less nervous to watch
Imagine one day “this floor is so smooth is so cool how the lava does this”
Lave: enters chat
Now you’re stuck in a hole being burned to a crisp by lava, nope.
Just stumbled across you guys' videos and I've always wanted to know.. does panic ever set in when you reach the end of a cave and realise you have to go through the same tight squeezes and awkward positions to get yourself out? I guess my question is, is it harder for you to go through the cave, or is the hardest part climbing your way out? Love the young blokes commitment and over all confidence in you and himself. Great team
Panic is always knocking at the door. There is no special tool against it except remaining calm and moving slow. And you do not have a choice you will either overcome panic, or you are going to have a very bad time.
@@CalvinHikes no doubt. Impressive work
Exploring caves is so awesome... From home as I watch this, no way I would go in there :)
That kid is sure brave.
