I think I over tightened my new belts they instantly started to squeal, I checked and they are in the grooves correctly etc. I’ll Suss it out in the morning and check what deflection I got. Thanks
Anthony, thanks for showing one the least things I like about the VQ Engines. The belts in the G35/350Z are not the best engineering design. Getting the belt tension right so they are not too loose and sequel, or too tight and have possible bearing damage is a pain. I wish they would have used spring tensioners instead. BTW, those idlers pulleys will require replacement when they start making noise. External oiling will do little to nothing on those sealed bearings. I know, I tried.
Nice maintenance check ✔ The Haynes manual is a good reference but for those who don't have the info on hand. My rule of thumb is that if you can't twist the topside of the belt past 80 to 90 degrees with your fingers you're on the money. That way it isn't under/over tension. Never had any slip issues or power loss with this method.
My car has a slight roaring sound when I tap the gas or turn the engine on (sometimes I can hear it slightly roar as the engine turns on). Do you think the serpentine belt could be causing this or perhaps one of the pully bearings? I was told that sound was normal however, when my car roars sometimes I hear the belt squeak and sometimes I don't. I can't quite figure out what's causing it and the mechanics said "there was nothing wrong just a belt squeak". But those 2 sounds come separately sometimes, so it had me confused. I noticed the comment at the bottom said it could be the idler pully. I will be taking it to a mechanic again eventually, it's just this whole lockdown nonsense has increased the wait time by months... Probably won't be able to get in till early Jan. But was assured it's still "safe" to drive.
Any chance you could help me? My z makes a squealing noise when accelerating unless I’m full throttle then it goes away. Doesn’t make any other noises at any other times only when I accelerate normally. Not when cursing or full gas, any ideas?
Looks like you have the same issue I do, the Z1 hoses bleeding through, I hate that. Are you aware of any brands of silicone hoses that do not do that? I noticed your radiator setup, you are running the full Mishimioto setup I assume? How do you like it?
I'm not sure if any other brands will be different. When I researched it, silicone is porous compared to rubber. I'm liking the Mishimoto setup a lot. When I drove the car in the summer, temperature was consistent and a little below half. I like the look and the idea the radiator is all aluminum now.
@@AnthonyJ350 yes, although it was done late at night with a friend. Ended up squeaking the way home and losing the A/C belt weeks later. I'm referring back to this video now to replace the A/C again. I didn't really account for belt deflection I was just going off of "yeah that belt seems tight enough" since I don't wanna damage the pulleys.
I would recommend just to get the torque wrench. It is cheap at Harbor Freight that way you do not have to worry about over tightening something. That is what happened to my friends mustang stripped his oil pan because he was cheap to buy a torque wrench.

Let us know what you find.

I agree, I wish it was self tensioning as well.

Thanks so much for the tip!
Love your videos. I always check your channel when I need to do some work on my 350.
That's so awesome to hear! Thank you for watching our videos 🙂

Sounds like you have a worn out bearing
I have done belts on this model. Good suggestion to disconnect the battery. The belts and tensioners are awfully close to the fans
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the tip kind sir.
I can’t seem to find the perfect tension I always have a a dreadful squeal when I start the car up after installing
Something might not be square with how the pulleys are aligned.
wow nice clean shop! you must work alone
Thank you! I do work by myself most of the time, it's my home shop. Still setting it up so it's messier than how I would like it.
Why when I tight my tensioner the belt is still loose ?
Tensioner isn't adjusted properly

Check the belt tensioner if it's loose. How old is the belt? Is it clean or is there oil amd grease on it?

What could it be if my car is squealing when turning on it goes on for like 3 seconds
Worn out belt or the tensioner needs adjustment or both.
I bought a new belt but its hard to put back in even after fully loosening tensioner
Did you compare it to the length of the old one? Should be roughly the same.
My belt make a sound when its a cold start(with ac on)then goes away after a few seconds.any idea why?
Belt is probably worn out and needs replacement.
@@AnthonyJ350 ok thanks
You can try tightening it first if it is a little lose otherwise do as Anthony suggests.
I literally just replaced my drive belts in my z lol how odd
Before I posted the video?

Is it possible to do this without the torque wrench?
You can, just don't over tighten anything. I would recheck everything after a few miles of driving.
@@AnthonyJ350 sounds good. Thanks anthony!
