Yeah that whole "Do I add a second event?" question is everywhere. Paul Grogan from Gaming Rules! confirmed with the devs that only one event should be out at the start of Day 1 for the campaign. The Chapter 1 "Exodus" event should come out at the start of Day 2.
We had the same conclusion (without the benefit of official confirmation). My logic is that the first card is in the pile, but you don't actually draw/resolve it until the proper time at the beginning of the day. As that appears correct, this may help subsequent chapters as well.
So, now I need to ask before I dive in..... there was one more "Chapter 1" card in my pile. I think it was "part 4".....? My brain assumed that was some event for if I didn't get a menhir activated on time. Should that card be my first event of Chapter 2? Or won't that be Chapter 2 part 1? (This might be an obvious answer and/or taken care of in the chapter 2 setup card, I just haven't looked at that yet....)
@@TomTeachesGames Start at Chapter 2.1. I think it tells you to discard all events at the end of a chapter, and anyway, each setup will tell you how to make the new deck.
I saw on another vid someone use one of the coins and use a time token on top of it to tick down the Menhir timer. So that's an option. Also, I saw that you have the plastic coins and as you are quite crafty it should be pretty straight forward to spray paint them black and dry brush them with gold to bring out the number detail. As always, very impressed by your hard work. Thanks, Tom!
Hmmmmm! That's a great option! Definitely worth considering and would be prettier than the coin. My only question is.... will it still feel too big on the card? The die is smaller... but the coin would be prettier...... I'm going to seriously consider this! (I might even have some black spray paint from my days when I attempted to be a miniature painter.... it didn't go well, and it didn't last long....)
According to the rules, there are going to be times when you're supposed to use a time token and a dial to track something other than a Menhir, so I'd be cautious about using time tokens to represent Menhirs.
Thanks for the video. It was great to be able to read and enjoy the first chapter with you. Too bad there’s only one video. Also, 👊🏻 props on the quality of work, and organization of your game set up. I can tell you are a math teacher by the way you explain things, very thorough.
Thank you! I know that I need to get back to chapter 2..... I think I'm just nervous and overwhelmed by the prospect..... I hear it's a really monstrously large chapter....
@@TomTeachesGames actually, thanks to you, I started playing my own copy of the game and I’m currently on chapter 3A part 4. Chapter 2 isn’t that long, but depending what you do it may take you west or east. I went east to get to a specific part of the game. Anyway, hope to see a chapter 2 from you and see what you’d do. Stay safe out there 👍
Thank you! I really loved the story here.... so I’m glad to hear that it isn’t too bad. One friend told me it took him 8+ hours.... I just don’t have that kind of time right now....
That is so awesome! I really need to get this back to the table and keep this story going at some point.... I just know the next chapter takes quite a while, so I've been avoiding it....
I gave in and looked up the rulebook about an hour in, so there may have been subtle mistakes made before that point. At 1:00:05, when you were trying to find a way to end the combat without spending energy, you did contemplate the play which would have worked, but forgot to count the doubling effect on the free key. Having looked up the Horde ability for the final fight, you then didn't actually apply it the two times it should have triggered (roughly 1:36:36 and 1:37:49). It doesn't really matter since you had a lot more than 4 cards left in your deck, and the deck wasn't in any particular order.
Oh my gosh! I legit forgot (as you noticed) to even consider the hoard ability.... Like, I read it, then it went right out of my brain as I was trying to decide how best to battle..... I imagine that this is going to be a lot like Gloomhaven where it's going to take a few plays of getting the basic mechanics down before I start remembering to look at the extra words/effects... I might need to come up with a token of some kind to remember that stuff...
@@TomTeachesGames Looking through the combat encounter traits in the rulebook: - Ambush and Rush are both immediate, so won't need reminders. - Defensive, Horde and Rage, I'd be tempted to leave a time token with the damage cubes as a reminder - Defensive triggers when you deal damage, and you check the current damage as part of the monster turn when the other two should trigger. - I've no idea how you'd do reminders for Fast, Slow and Opportunist, but they're also pretty major strategic considerations, so they're less likely to get forgotten. - Guardian, Robber and Shatter all only apply at the end of an encounter, so, maybe putting a token on top of the encounter deck as a reminder for when you go to return the card? Anyway, I'm sure you'll figure out a solution that works for you :)
Here is a rule i want clarification it says in the 2.0 rulebook in page 7 of it in (IX) create your 25 card combat and diplomacy pool, take the 15 advanced combat and diplomacy cards but in the cards nowhere it clarifies which are the basic combat and who the advanced any clue how to distinct it?
Yes! That is a great point I need to remember to mention -- I have just never really been one to "mulligan" -- but clearly there will be times when I need to adapt and consider the option.
Oh man! Almost done with FORGOTTEN CIRCLES?!? How long has all of that taken you? That's so crazy. I feel like I'm only 10% through the Gloomhaven base... after two years...
Yeah, I understand there is some confusion about what stuff (if any or all) carries over from the intro and what doesn't. For me I just decided that I would start from scratch. Was that the wrong thing to do? Very possibly.... but it made the most sense to me. So yeah, I just restarted all of Beor's resources and the Menhir dial and everything.
Thanks for the Gloomhaven love and thanks for the comment! It'll be interesting to try to balance Gloomhaven, Tainted Grail, Aeon's End Legacy, and non-campaign videos.... but hey, sounds like a fun challenge to me!
@@TomTeachesGames Yes sounds you are a lucky man 😁 I'm still waiting for German Version of the Game, but KS will come this Year 😅 And I'm happy that Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion will come, so that I will be able to play a Light Version of Gloomhaven 😉🍻

That is a GREAT question that I do not know the answer to. Same for the other resources.... does the amount of food I have carry over too? For all of these I just guessed/assumed "No" and went with it. But I do not know the official answer here.
@@TomTeachesGames It seems certain that you don't carry over the menhir's life from the intro scenario, so my guess is that nothing carries over from the tutorial.

In the FAQ it is mentioned otherwise. You reveal one card during set up and then another as part of the 'start day'.

Don't forget ... If you don't like your initial encounter card draw you can discard all three cards and then pick two new ones.
