One way to increase the usefulness of duo trailers is to install a computer-controlled reversing function in the truck. The control unit in the truck knows the characteristics of the vehicles in the set up. The driver gets out of the cab and places a contact transponder at the loading dock and starts the truck with his remote control in hand. The truck backs up under the supervision of the driver, who stands to the side and watches and stops if necessary. Then the rearmost trailer is disconnected with the dolly and the truck and the front trailer are backed onto another loading dock. When it's time to couple up, the control unit remembers where the other trailer's drawbar is and can back up while the driver watches. The described is technically possible. It is only required that some company develops the system and markets it.
It's typical with new models) Some have to get used to it, others spend time stating the old model is 'much nicer' and so on. After a few months people have forgot about the old models, and think they look really old next to the newst model)
The seat socket is still too high so you can’t use air in the seat if you are under 180 cm long. I have to lower the seat all the way down and tilt forward to reach the floor. The cup "holders" are still pretty much just cup placement, and they are 1 meter away from you. The steering wheel is the same thick uncomfortable blob. They even changed the button layout so that in my 2023 volvo i cant switch track/song on the wheel anymore. You have to stretch out to the infotainment display. They didn’t bother designing a new dashboard when they implementet the new infotainment screen. They just left a big hole behind the new screen and you cant use for anything because the screen makes it very unpractical. Feels like they dont care. The night/sleep curtains hinges are still made out of the cheapest plastic they could find. It’s not "if" they break but when. And they are a pain to fix and they never run smoothly again. The handsfree microphone is still terrible. Everyone complains they can’t hear me, so i have stopped using it completely. The standard speaker have gotten worse, and less equalizer settings from my 2019 volvo. Still no Apple carplay/Android auto they said would come a few years ago. Like come on! How hard can it be? Scania has had it as standard sinse the first next gen. The infotainment is bare bones and even navigation is extra. There is no more functionality than from the ones in the early 2010 models. The table they give with the new truck is just a pain to have installed. It’s in the way, so everyone just removes it and never use it. The tacho is slow AF. You have to wait like 15 minutes before it’s finished loading. Scania is almost instant. All in all to me it feels like they dont care about the drivers at all. All they care about are the big contracts. If i owned my own truck i would buy a Scania..
They have power but drivers inside the cab it’s a day cab not set up for long trips like in Australia where you can spend two weeks from home ..Yes they have power but not for living days on end in them ,,but the trucks seem to get pretty good
good luck with 2x and 3x lenght on most european roads . They would only be good to deliver to and from central hubs , after that you still need 2x 3x the trucks to deliver each carriage individually to final destination. Tractor head performance of course it's insane , but we would need an "EURO Interstate" with a few lines from Portugal to Russia , Estonia-Greece , and a few smaller segments connecting the main tracks with strategic locations, with 4-4 bands reserved for big trucks only , and with speed limits up to 130.

Jammer van het weertje wel, Januari is wel zo ongeveer de slechtst mogelijke maand om een product launch in Göteborg te doen. FH16 is een iconische naam dus ik begrijp dat Volvo deze bijgehouden heeft.

When did Volvo in Europe stop using 3 wiper blades on those oversized windshields? I strongly believe going back to using a 3rd wiper would be next best thing to a "Kent Clear-View Screen" as used in the Maritime industry (which obviously will never be implemented in the road-transport industry).
the last time I saw a truck using 3 wipers was a late 90s/early 2000s DAF, and even they have moved away from that in favor of two wipers, Volvo has been using the same 2 wipers for over 30 years
Our DAF (utter shite) has 3 and it does a way worse job than our Volvos and Scanias. 2 big wiper blades does a better job at both wiping and being less stuff to replace.

It's all about the cargo. The driver is lucky to even get paid 😆 US trucks are big on the outside but relatively cramped on the inside. It's just a living space attached to a day cab. Euro trucks are way better designed for interior space overall.
Tiny cabin... height 4m (over 13ft) width and lenght ab. 2,5m (over 8 ft) and 2,11m (6'9") standing height inside. Many of them will be on the road 24/7 or 24/5 in 12 hour shifts and drivers go home to sleep.
I wonder how much shit I could break on these trucks on our job, 96t A-doubles ;) Who am I kidding, with an extra 80hp our boss will throw some extra axles at it and a few more tonnes

@@zaarkeru3391 well on a mirror one speck of dirt doesn't ruin 80% of visibility and on a mirror I can move my head to adjust my field of view if needed. On a camera one speck of dirt ruins the view for the most part, moisture in the lense is also possible and always great ;) and moving your head doesn't change the perspective. Feels very synthetic and has little benefit over very large disadvantages. The manufacturer should rather put fairing on the rear wheels as there's massive drag there
@no-damn-alias The dirt thing isn't really an issue from my experience, my issue is the lack of depth perception. I drove a test unit with both cameras and mirrors, that was truely great. Both depth of perception and a much wider angle of sight.

@@ilkkak3065 no, because there is that New law in europe that you can add 90 cm to the cab just for making it aërodynamic......Daf did that.....not Total 90cm because it would get too heavy. Daf xg and xg+ are about 40cm longer as usual....volvo could have done it too with this model

This D17 engine seems to be just an updrilled D16. Bigger cylinder diameter but the same stroke lenght. But I guess it involves something more.

best truck ever made was the MAN with the V10 engine with 600hp that could pull like a train. it could out pull any volvo or scania.

We did some internal testing and we saw about 6-8% real world savings on fuel (unloaded just the tractor), so it will make quite a difference.

@@zaarkeru3391 well on a mirror one speck of dirt doesn't ruin 80% of visibility and on a mirror I can move my head to adjust my field of view if needed. On a camera one speck of dirt ruins the view for the most part, moisture in the lense is also possible and always great ;) and moving your head doesn't change the perspective. Feels very synthetic and has little benefit over very large disadvantages. The manufacturer should rather put fairing on the rear wheels as there's massive drag there

The dirt thing isn't really an issue from my experience, my issue is the lack of depth perception.
I drove a test unit with both cameras and mirrors, that was truely great.
Both depth of perception and a much wider angle of sight.

The Aero range is just an addition, the standard cab isn’t going anywhere and you will get the standard cab with 780hp as well.

The camera mirrors lower the fuel consumption and with that help the manufacturer to achieve the necessary CO2 reduction.
It also minimise the dead angles and maximise the view. They take a Couples of minutes to get used to and a day or two to not miss to mutch.
It saves 1% fuel from what i heard, but you can get mirrors instead of camera on most trucks.

XXL Cabin is a bit longer. But it would be off from loading space if cabin would be longer.
@@ilkkak3065 no, because there is that New law in europe that you can add 90 cm to the cab just for making it aërodynamic......Daf did that.....not Total 90cm because it would get too heavy. Daf xg and xg+ are about 40cm longer as usual....volvo could have done it too with this model
