The "Bob Ross" of whiskey tasting! Enjoy his videos and I don't even drink whiskey!
Do you also get those tingles on the back of your neck when you watch Bob or this guy? My dad used to watch Bob Ross and I never understood why. Then I grew up and I watched it the joy of painting and had a weird feeling. Then i brought it up to my dad and he basically finished my sentence...I was like" I dont know what it is about bob ross, but everytime I watch him.." and he cut me off and said " you get weird tingles on your neck?". I guess it's genetic ha.
I just made the same comment in another video. I don't drink any alcohol but I enjoy his enjoyment of the spirit.
Calm and peaceful. I hated Bob Ross as a kid. It's the calmness in this the video/ against the stress of today.
This dude is my go to for all whiskeys. And thank you for whistling our anthem sir. I salute you!
He bought a tiny bottle because he knew damn well he didn't want to suffer a fifth of the stuff. LOL!
Great video.
Updated my journal
Jack Daniels is very tastey. 😀
Rookie Freediver the only jack I can tolerate is the Tennessee honey
Rookie Freediver other then that the stuff is garbage juice rather drink warm fireball straight no chaser
Even so, I love the stuff. I've had expensive high end stuff and like it too. Just like the Jack!
Last time a downed a 5th as you Americans call it I was vomiting from my mouth and ass at the same time sat on the shitter with my head in the sink lol I love me some jack esp gentlemen jack but ik my limits now
I like what he has to say but Im pretty sure he swallowed a mic.
Buy better head phones or get a 3000 Wat sound system XD The sound isnt that bad fr.
LOL! Yeah, he does a lot of swishing around, but he's a no-bullshit-assessment guy. I love JD even though he clearly doesn't really like it.
Lmao
For sure!
For real
Nailed our anthem sir!
"Paint thinner"...yep, pretty much spot on.
vegarosa69 😂
To people who don’t have that much experience with whiskey it would taste like that. It’s mapley and sweet and you do taste the filtering from that, but this and gentleman jack and single cask taste overwhelmingly like banana cream.
@@kojis456 I second this. Earlier I thought Jack Daniels tasted bad because of the paint thinner-like quality, but I recently bought a small bottle and found it quite sweet with strong taste of honey and banana. I actually enjoyed the more simple taste profile. It's a whisky for when you don't want to overthink it.
@@vegarosa69 banana solvent
Having drank much of this in my youth (and vomited nearly as much), I can say this review is dead on.
He bought the small bottle because he knew it was all he wanted...
😂I was in can't throw cant keep situation fr 3 months!....
I have tried this many times, but usually with a super sweet cola. I have tried it as a shot. Until last week, I had never tried it fairly as a whiskey. I agree with your assessment about it being 'thin' and bang for the buck or what you pay, it indeed would appeal to the masses. So before one passes judgement, try it fairly- as you would any whiskey and honestly, it is not bad.
JD#7 is a cocktail whisky and a casual drink, a better one than many, if you people pretend to get a complex experience with it you're snobs and deserve to be dissapointed. For me it's a fine drink, it's not intended to be the best.
This is my favorite review so far - never a good thing when "paint thinner" is suggested in the nosing. Can you taste Black Velvet next? I'd keep paramedics around though...
I own dozens of expensive high-end Bourbons and Kentucky Whiskeys, and most are better than Jack, but Jack is a simple good comfort Whiskey. At my party’s I put many Bourbons and Whiskeys out for my guests, and guess which one gets drunk the most? Yep, this one.
I love how politely you said “yep, this is just cheap shit”
Now it's here. Today I test the Jack Daniels whisky 🥃
I salute you, Mr. Luening! We are honored to hear you whistle our anthem. :)
this is like asmr
It really is
Test starts at 7:07
7:10
LMAO!! I love this guy. A classy gentleman indeed but someone should really make a video of all of his funny sounds, facial expressions, hand gestures, initial nosing reactions, etc. I'd watch it every single morning.
Thanks
7:32
Gummi bears and paint thinner - that's what I'm looking for.
I can drink any whiskey I want butIf it was good enough for Frank Sinatra drink it certainly good enough for me.
This is probably the one time in history when Jack was drunk in such connoisseur way. Out of a nosing glass. Hahaha! Like a food critic or cigar aficionado doing a detailed review of a Big Mac or Swisher Sweet.
WhoChrisLiu and the last time..
Nothing wrong with a Big Mac
I dnt understand all this hate. JD is far better than JW Red label, and i never ever had hangover with it.I usually drink little more than half a bottle and never wake up hung over.
LedHead Half a 0.7l bottle is only around 8 servings, that shouldnt get you a hangover
more than 350ml of whiskey is more than enough for a hangover mate.
Beter? No! Both are discusting....
I'm with you! A double shot of some Jack Daniels on the rocks with three clear ice cubes to rise the temp just a bit and watch them melt slightly so the swirl of the water blends with the whiskey and opens it up into a perfect oaky experience is a beautiful thing. And as crazy as this sounds I don't drink to get drunk, I just love that flavor. I drink the single barrel barrel proof myself. Now as for Johnny Walker Red ..that Shiz is HORRIBLE! Same with the black label. I seriously don't know how it sells. BUT THE GREEN label? Mmmm....Now we're talking. Legit! I was stunned at the difference.
MrMemyselfandi415
you obviously don't have the fucking palate for drinking scotch .....for Red Label I might understand the elitists who would bash it right away and won't give it a chance and taste it well ...but for black / double black Label ....you are Certainly talking out of your ass or never tasted it before ....lol you seem like the people who drink whisky in Shots " especially JW "
Hello sir, I have watched a few of your tasting videos and I find your knowledge and delivery captivating. You're clearly an expert taster and a magnificent communicator. You have earned my subscription to the channel and a very enthusiastic thumbs up!
The sound of just his voice alone makes me want to drink hard liquor. It is Monday, and I am drinking a glass of Jacks straight up.
He would make a good voice for villains in animation.
You meant neat.
Not the best Whiskey, but not as bad as some say. I happen to like it from time to time.
Of you're selling so much bottles you're doing something right.
A very decent Whiskey and probably the best one can get for that price of 15€. Im comparison with Jim Beam White Label which is very hard to drink and only drinkable in pure form with a lot of cold soda.
It is bad if you know the true whiskeys
It’s ok as a mixer, but it’s not sipping whisky
McDonald’s selling so much burger and nuggets and the food is trasher! 🤷🏽♂️ fuck the numbers
@@atb8660 Yeh it's good with Coke but not straight.
Brah I find your videos actually surprisingly enjoyable and kinda aight. I respect the way you describe the taste, and I totally agree since I'm a majjjjor Jack Daniels fan :D
Great review. I can't help but laugh that sound he makes around 7:12 when opening the bottle 😂 Can imagine it being same sound as climax, or maybe even letting one rip😂
On a serious note though great review. I didn't know they used to do 43% volume. Prefer Jim Beam myself now (white label or better still black). Despite the sugar maple JD method I prefer the Jim Beam, as JD comes across harsher despite the sugar maple sweetness
Best JD I've had was their 1915 Gold Medal Whiskey. We bought this on vacation doing the tour of the distillery in Lynch Burg, TN, which was a great tour. The distillery has a special license or they used to have this. Haha, he is right Lynch Burg is in a dry county. Which is funny when you think about it.
Did he swallow his mic or something?
Rams Nation lmao
Old No. 7 is the 'cheap whiskey' label. Its pretty decent for its intended category. Definitely not as good as single barrel or gentleman's, which are the higher quality labels.
Cheap, yet more expensive than goerge dickel number 12, which, in my opinion, is superior.
The mellowing process is important😉
I liked drinking it in an American bar. Then it tasted good together with a dark beer.
For drinking a whiskey in quiet at home, I like Elijah Craig better.
I always get Jack if I mix with Coke. Has a little more flavor than most cheap whiskies when mixed imo. Enjoyable in that state certainly
I did visit and they are acting slow and some even slightly drunk. It's good acting. It's a beautiful place.
is a slight aroma of paint thinner good or bad?
I remember you saying "if you want me to see tasting the old nr. 7 you can wait forever."
Well was only till 2014 :'D
And now he sells it in Germany 😂
Hi there, I have tried only a few whiskys or should I say Whiskey hahaha i have to say that Jack Daniel's as something special that I don't find in any other that I have tried yet. There is a complexity and a powerfull satisfaction in every sip from Jack Daniel's. It's made to be drink directly from the bottle :)
I find most scotch to weak, missing caracter, well i am the guy who drinks hard wines, no bourgogne witch feels like water.
Like Johny Walker Black Label, it's got powerfull taste,Glenfiddish is weak, anyway I think we all have diff. taste and we don't search for the same feeling, I juste don't like the kind of snobbish against Jack Daniel's even if I usually hate everething from the U.S. hahah
Have a great day and keep up the reviews, it help to find what to buy next :)
All these wanna be snobs in the comments ... can't you just accept that everybody likes something else ? some people do like jack as their go to whiskey, and even though I am not one of them some comments make me sick. Just for example Seth MacFarlane drinks Jack and we all know he could afford pretty much any whisk(e)y .. I would love to see some people blindfold test whiskeys without knowing what they will be given
Filip Polách I totally agree.
Jack Daniels is good whiskey if that's what people like to drink.
Yeah I'm just now learning about fine bourbons and Scotch whiskey now that I'm in my 50's, but JD is a classic and it stands up on its own.
oh absolutely I can - I myself am not a big fan of Jack- I am talking about people who are just snobs and cant accept that ANYONE would like Jack
It's not surprising most people only drink that with coke! Definitely tastes pretty evil neat! It's useful if you need to wash a wound but you have run out of antiseptic. The bottles should say 'not recommended for internal use!' lol
The main reason Jack Daniel’s is one of the more consistent tasting whiskeys around is because it’s a Sour Mash whiskey. By recycling some of the spent distillate to start fermentation on a new batch, the acidity from the spent distillate helps create a more ideal environment for the yeast to produce more consistent alcohol. Before sour mashing was started, the taste and consistency of whiskey varied from batch to batch.
I noticed that you didn't mention the tastes of corn. Considering it's a bourbon with one extra step (who cares, it's taste wise nearly identical), how on earth did you miss that but get the harder to taste oak? It's a harsh corn syrupy whisky and it sells well because it has a good initial taste of sugar, but an after taste of delicious popcorn. It holds up poorly if you let it linger, as say compared to Johnny Walker Black or Lagavulin. So yes it's less for appreciation, but not many people appreciate these days, which is a shame. I think it's a great bourbon, but shit for appreciation. Really easy to drink if you add some water to reduce it a few points in percentage.
Nemesis-0300 he did mention corn
Great wee video....thoroughly enjoyed it
Hi Horst, I did enjoy your review of Jack Daniels Old No 7 Tennessee Sour Mash Whisky🍸🎅🎄👍
I love starting off with my beloved Islay whiskies and then when I’m at the tipping point and just want to get smashed I always go to the uncle Johns no.7 lol 😂❤ he’s spot on with the vanilla/paint thinner notes. That’s hilarious
Before I began tasting different high-quality whiskeys, I always thought Jack Daniels was the best.
But now that I know something, Jack Daniel's is actually one of the worst.
So snob
Sir..do you recommend this or not. ?
it also taste sauna. when you go inside sauna and can smell aroma of sauna room. I could taste that smell of sauna from Jack daniel's.
"Paint thinner" "one dimensional" "quite thin" "moldy"
always learn a lot from these videos! Horst, you are the best!
So many people hate of jack daniels lmao. Still my personal favorite
I used to hate it, until recently I fell in love with the stuff.
Mine too, don't really understand the hate.
Frantic
Snobbyness...basically
Not really, there is just so much stuff which tastes ( to me ) better out there
Jack is my go to whiskey tbh, always has been. It's easy to drink on its own straight, super smooth and great to drink in Coke or Gingerale.
7:32 when I eat too fast and almost choke
Did he say Jack Daniels is 36 years old... I think he meant 4-6 years. 6:20
yes we meant 3-6 years
can you review the SINATRA SELECT JACK DANIELS
Jack surprised me this summer when we has around +30 celcius. It will be "thin" if you serve it too cold
In my opinion jack Daniels is very one dimensional as you sayed however what's there is realy good and for me it's a "comfort whiskey".
I actually enjoy sipping on this neat, never with coke because I feel it ruins the taste of cola. Neat or with a couple ice cubes I love this whiskey, and I’m a single malt asshole, green label, hibiki, and taketsuru is what I always have on hand.
JD is underated by the whisky snobs , cognitive dissonance.
Great review this guy's the best at it no one comes close in 2 reviewing whiskeys
I don't care what anyone says, I love me some JD and always will.
It's not undrinkable as some have said. But it's not something I'd sit and sip and enjoy. Tend to drink it mixed or when I'm already drunk and don't want to waste expensive stuff haha
Horst great video!
Why is Jack so popular compared to other Bourbons that seem better?
My thing is that when i go out i want to drink my spirit with a mixer and find a double JD and coke just right. If im at home and in the mood a straight Glenmorangie does the trick. Horses for courses chaps. JD is a mixer spirit with a unique taste.
The fact that a bottle of no.7 Jack's sold at the same price of a Chivas 12 one, is just ridiculous.
7:32 What was that LMAO
What us the watch you are wearing? Thanks!
This is indeed where fine spirits meet., Horst. Reviewing the old 7 Jack would be hard and not be harsh to it shows you are a fine spirit.
Gentleman Jack for example, is a good whiskey, but Old 7 is as you subtly imply, it is more based on marketing than actual quality.
If I would wish a straight forward whisky, I usually prefer Jameson or the Famous Grouse, or maybe Jim Beam if I want a bourbon.
Jack is too bitter, coaly for my taste and even the most objective person would say that it is not that good of an example of good buy and drink whiskey.
ilove this whiskey
I would rather drink this then JW Red label. wtf is with red label. Im reasonbly new to wiskey but having a hard time drinking it. My best at the moment is Glenfiddich 12yr. AMAZING WISKEY i dont think i need anything else.😁
I'm not sure where the "Moldy" taste would come from. To me, this one is sweet and creamy tasting, then you get some hazelnut-like taste and maybe some almonds. I used to taste bitterness in it but it's no longer there I think. Despite what the reviewer here says about the whiskey, I would like to recommend this one, it's good. Reminds me of eating a nice nut cake.
I would like to add that the person in this video is saying all of this about this whiskey while having rated the Gentleman Jack quite positively, I would like to remind everyone that Gentleman Jack is even more mild, even more "thin" in a sense, while tasting nearly the same as the No. 7.
I love these videos. But he reminds me of the main villain in Jack Reacher.
I’ve watched a ton of your videos and this by far is the best. The look on your face and the lack of description of the taste, because their is none, is perfect.
I like paint thinner in my whiskey
I wonder how much it would sell if they change the color of the label from black to pink.
Really enjoy your videos!
The first ASMR of whiskey. 😌😔😐😑
It my favourite! And I of Scots Scotch whisky drinkers.
it has a pleasant nose, but you can taste the charcoal. I think that strips a lot of good things... it contributes a gentle smoke and a touch of sooty bbq oily smoke flavor.
I am here after viewing Ben’s review on Nr.7
My favourite whiskey
I have a mini, small bottle like you. I got that mini bottle.... 50ml or so. Hard to open indeed
actually. I heard they decided on " Old number 7" is because after Jack Daniels won 7 awards for his whisky. that's where he said. old number 7. that works
Horst can carry a tune.
Very nice drink.
What about Apple man !
well done
Nice.
I like it
best whisky in the world, Scottland.. period.
One word to describe JD Old no 7 - Raunchy.
Haven't drunk this in at least a decade but I do wonder how people drink this utter swill. Aberlour 10 is about the same price and is far superior. In my opinion of course.
Still kudos to them, they do have very good marketing.
that a rolex?
Yes. But Even Williams also charcoal filters and they are still a Bourbon. Jack is a Bourbon, they just dont wanna be 2nd behind Beam in the category.
I like how people keep bashing Jack. Yet its the most sold whiskey in America. They must be doing something right. #7 on the rocks is awesome! Let it sit for 30 sec and watch it open up.
Das Mikrofon mit dem Geschmatze ist ganz schlimm, zum Glück haben Sie es eingetauscht...
as others have elsewhere pointed out, the charcoal filtration is not used exclusively in tennesee, but there are also kentucky bourbons using it. as per USA regulations for what is and isn't bourbon, JD is no different to the average bourbon. as you correctly noted early in your (really good and fair, if i may add) review, it's a purely marketing gimmick. JD is, for all intents and purposes, bourbon
No it's not. A Bourbon needs to come from Bourbon County, Kentucky. JD's does not.
definitely not true. educate yourself before perpetrating falsities. read the regulations. nowhere is it mentioned that it can be made in bourbon county only.
I actually liked the green one.
I think most of your reviews are quiet same, dark cherries, fruitiness, some caramel, smokiness at the back etc.. and then mouth watering ;)
Everyone buys this for the infamous Jack & Coke.
I used to drink it when i was a teenager. The idea of drinking in now makes me feel sick
Wow you mustve been sooo cool
Same here, started at 16 and now I can't drink it anymore
brandon2932 I wanted so badly to be like lemmy, i had no idea how shitty old no 7 really is
inkey2 I do like old no 1.
Im drinking it right now, feels nostalgic man.. Like the good old days!
Edit: Yes, I've tried others and they're in their own way better but this has a special place in my heart cus it was my 1st alcoholic beverage (if you can call it that)
You sound like john hurt I like it
I agree it's thin. It was better at 43 ABV.
