This is a sad but beautiful song. Even always so cheerful Emppu looked serious when doing his solo. Yes, Floor is very technical, but she uses her techniques to convey emotions. That's her biggest asset.
Ironic that you mentioned Mozart. We all like to refer to Tuomas as the metal Mozart. His poetry and emotional musical compositions are amazing in my opinion. That is the perfect adjective for Floor's vocals. It is soaring over the music. So majestic. Like a 500 pounds eagle soaring ever higher on gentle but powerful gust of wind. So beautiful and yet so powerful. This is probably my favorite Floor performance. From soft, beautiful and emotional, to breathtaking power. I loved your analysis as much as I love this song my friend. Peace.
If "Dead Boy's Poem" makes your technical brain throb, "Shoemaker" will make it feel like it's been in a paint mixer. Very precise diction, staccato notes, large jumps in pitch, long phrases, all on a single breath - and then there's the finale.
This whole show is fantastic, I was lucky enough to see them during this tour and took my Dad with me who also loves Nightwish (the Decades tour, where they played mostly older songs they never normally play) and as soon as they got to 10th Man Down, my favorite song from the Tarja era I absolutely lost my mind. At the end of the show my Dad was sitting at a table on the balcony upstairs and he just kept saying "I wish I could sit here and listen to her sing all night", he must have said that exact same sentence like 6-7 times haha. I got an awesome picture of Floor headbanging with her hair all pointing upwards with reddish light making it look like her head was on fire!
Same! I went to a show with my father as well and when 10th man down came I was like YES! sad they didn't play any song from Dark Passion Play and in the end we were like "can we please have these two hours repeated?"
I have watched tons of reactions to Floors singing and I believe you are the first that appreciates Floors ability to adjust her volume to the output of the band. My compliments... Absolutely loved this reaction, you also referred to Mozart and Tuomas is called the Metal Mozart by a lot of Nightwish fans.
When you combine a composer with the ability to infuse the music with feelings and a singer that sings her soul out every time you get pure magic! = Nightwish
I’ve always been just as, if not more impressed, with Floor’s power and control of her low notes as much as I’m in total awe of her high belts. She’s truly one of a kind. Really enjoy your discussions of how she does things but also showing how difficult a lot of the things she makes look effortless really are. 🤘
Hi. Floor looks very regal with her arms spread out wide especially with her length and arms. Floor is an amazing singer and performer. I love that how down to earth she is. She was still sick at this concert a couple of days before this she a bad fever. By the end she was drained.
Well Big brain. You as are fast becoming a very favourite reactor with the Nightwish Army. Love your analysis of Floor and Nightwish. Your explanation of Floor's voice is fantastic to hear and you going back for seconds... love it. Another song for you is ;the Devil and the deep dark ocean or Slaying the dreamer. You will be blown away by the Goddess and the Viking singing together... really. Peace out and be Safe out there. Ps. Tuomas is also called the Metal Mozart and I guess you are getting to know him better and better through his compositions. He is Awesome.. all of them. .
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Thanks for replying Big Brain ( love the name). Question for you. I have a completely untrained ear when it comes to vocals, but knew I was hearing something magic in this song. Thank you for explaining about the straight tones.
I really love it Charlie, how you are discovering the immense vocal mastery of Floor Jansen. And especially, how she brings you joy and a big smile of wonder on your face. That is what Floor does. She is just incredible. I have watched and listened this song over a hundred times, and each time again, she strikes me and gives me the shivers. This woman has mastered the true art of connecting. She is a born performer at the highest level possible. And i am even not talking about her stunning eye- and facial expressions, gestures, dances, lyrical hand and arm movements, physical beauty and enriching charisma here...
B B S.........My favorite performance of this song by far. The sound, lighting and film.......All perfect, for a perfect song to my ear. Watching you react is like looking into a mirror ( you have more hair ). Smiling, shaking my head in disbelief at what I'm hearing with tears in my eyes. The lyrics and how much emotion she put into it, gets me every time. If you don't have goose bumps listening to this......Call the Ambulance.....You don't have a pulse.
I'm having so much fun with your Nightwish reactions. Don't miss "Devil and a deep dark ocean" also from Buenos Aires. You'll have fun with it, I promise.
Watching your joy brings us joy. Literally why I watch reactions to live again vicariously through others; as they experience what I did when I first heard this band. Its so emotional, powerful, and technically amazing.
Consider this was written at a time out of the current lineup only Tuomas and Emppu were with the band. How amazingly that song aged - and how great they have grown as a band since then. Not only musically, but also when you see the people on stage - their whole interaction.
I’m no professional musician, just did band/orchestra high school and college, but her control of dynamics is ridiculous. Soft to loud and back, within notes, within phrases, within sections of songs .. also for the band as a whole, not just floor(who is also superlative at it of course), that emotion channeling you talk about. Listen to Poet and the Pendulum if you want another emotional roller coaster.
This song is a pearl in her voice. Tuomas is a f*cking blessing in our times. Great reaction as always, you're able to catch most nuances in their songs. I'm happy. :)
Truly amazing performance from a still under the weather Floor . Love your analysis and most of all your newly found passion for nightwish . They are a synergy of six fantastic mature talents who give so much and yet enjoy every minute on stage . Cant wait until they are back performing and delighting all the Army .
I definitely will not get into “who is the better singer”. However at 18:00 the overtones Floor’s instrument is able to produce are amazing. I rarely hear those even in live performances of “classical” singers. If I didn’t know the song I would swear she had gone up an octave. I am really enjoying your detailed analytical reactions. I haven’t heard some of the terms you are using since I was at conservatory. You just got yourself another subscriber, and yes I hit the bell.
One of the saddest beautiful songs! Tuomas is an amazing composer!!! My personal favorite on the slow side of Nightwish is Our Decades in the Sun!! It is written for all of their parents and they had never played it live because it is very emotional for them!!
Thanks so much Charlie for doing this 🙏🏻 and you understood and felt exactly what I still do when hearing this song. Especially that note when she sings ‘night’ and takes it all back, so impressive and I never heard anyone say anything about it. 👍🏻 Would love to be on your chat but haven’t figured out twitch yet 😆 and think we’re in a different time zone as I find most of your reactions early in the morning. 🙋🏼♀️
Hey, discovered your channel just yesterday, i'm not a singer (my neighbours are probably happy with that lol) but I'm one massive fan of Nightwish and Floor Jansen so I've been loving following you being blown away by her and the band. I really enjoy your technical analysis, even when i don't sing it's nice to understand what's going on with the music you like. I'm actually from Buenos Aires but wasn't into the band at the time of the concert so I missed it, but after watching the full DVD a year ago, it was impossible not to be one more from the "Army" and also start following reactors across the world also getting hit by the Floorgasms lol At some point it would also be nice that you check out their original singer, Tarja, which is a completely different style of singing, much more operatic, but also great in her own right. I'm sure people in your twitch chat or here in the comments will eventually give you the best recommendations like they are doing with Floor's era so i won't overload that queue here Looking forward for more!
I love this song and i appreciate it even more hearing how difficult it is to sing it the way Floor did. beautiful lyrics to this one. Great composition!
Wonderful stuff again Charlie, it is much appreciated. May I observe this, Tuomas commonly refers to himself as a boy and thus uses both a boy narrator and in places a choir boy too, it is because he had a really happy and idyllic childhood and often harks back to those days. He will also use poet of course, writer and dreamer too. I suspect though he was generally misunderstood by his childhood peers and had few real friends being a rather introverted and deep thinking person. I don't believe there was ever any parental rejection, just the reverse; I see this song as Tuomas' self-written epitaph, it's what he would want to say to us all after he's gone when he couldn't say it anyway - sing what you can't say, forget what you can't play, and to remember his works not him - If you read this line, remember not the hand that wrote it , remember only the verse. It's been mentioned elsewhere, the swans in Finnish cultural folklore take you to the after life and also worth considering how "The Swan of Tuonela" by Sibelius fits in here too.
@@CharlieCalottaReacts No probs. Tuomas is not only a brilliant composer but his lyrics are often very poetic, metaphorical and allegorical, it can take some digging to penetrate them and he does not explain lyrics even to the band apparently, if you have the general idea then that's good enough.
I have submitted to so many reactors to Floor and Nightwish and seen all of your reactions to them. After this one I just couldnt not sub to you. I was tearing up when I saw your happy face about 18:00 :)
From such an aspect, I haven’t even thought about this song, it’s a very nice and telling reaction thank you for all my appreciation and good luck in everything else
I personally think that this was one of the best reactions /teaching/diagnosis from you - maybe because I love this song - but thank you for been so "explaning" from Floor's singing and through Tuomas's writing and composing Greetings from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 👍 💪 🤘 🤘
I spent the last hour watching all your reactions to NW and Floor haha. I subbed, love your reactions!! I have a recommendation though, I hope you're not just focusing on Floor in Nightwish but also her with ReVamp, After Forever, Northward, Beste Zangers and even collabs like Ayreon, Star One etc... Cause you haven't even seen half of what she can do! Im looking forward to a lot more :)
Ayreon regardless of if Floor is in there or not is an absolute must! And her Betse Zangers stuff is pure gold! She also has some music on her channel that she is working on now if I'm not mistaken, and not all covers either.
Another great reaction and thank you for your explanations much appreciated. Makes if so more impressive. Loving your Nightwish and Floor journey 😃👏🏻👍🏻🤘🏻
I love how you geek out about it :) I didn't understand how hard it is until you pointed it out, but yes, she makes it seem so easy! This used to be my go-to song with Nightwish, and it's still a top favorite, it feels like 'my' song sometimes despite me not being any kind of musician...
Seeing that you are almost tearing up on this one (it has always hit me pretty hard as well), a word of warning regarding "Poet and the Pendulum" (which will get onto your list or is already on there) - that one hits way harder than this song, especially if you know the background of the song. In the end the song that "saved" Toumas life, by performing a kind of musical suicide.
It's not essential and we have no place to direct Charlie for what he does with himself or his own channel, but I would have to agree that if you do really get to grips with the turmoil and everything behind this song, then in my opinion, it does hit many times harder. @Sartyva_EVE is quite right, it was either real suicide or musical suicide, and thank goodness the latter prevailed, what a loss that would have been. Charlie; myself and many others probably, will be in tears by the end of "the Poet and the Pendulum" especially as the final part titled "Mother and Father" is a close repeat of what his parents said to him, that's the only spoiler I should give you and perhaps you should first have a look at Edgar Alan Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum"..
I found Nightwish this past year and have become a huge fan! At 63 years old, I have been "into" hard rock....think Jimmy Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Nazareth, Grand Funk Railroad, AC/DC...and heavy metal. I enjoy Nightwish so much, not just because of Floor, I think more because of Tuomas' writing & composing skills!
Ok man now you really need to hear the Poet and the pendulum (while knowing the backstory). Tuomas abilities to channel emotions are best expressed in this cathartic song. Don't miss it!
You can see floor participate in a dutch tv show from 2019 called "Beste Zangers" (Best of singers), and I can highly recommend you to take a look on that and react to her performances. The TV show itself is very interresting. Singers from the Nederlands join up and make covers from the each others songs. The fun thing is, that Floor was not so very known in the Nederlands before this show, but with her voice, personality and way of make a metal twich to her covers, she really took her country by storm! If you want to react to them, i can recommend to take a look on the full episode 1, which contains introduction to the artists, and where they hear Floor for the first time!
Thank you, for your beautiful comment, Floor is for me the best singer ever, i love all the different colors she can give here voice to tell the story's from Nightwish.
also worth to say that Tuomas has said he is an empath so all of the emotions others may feel were felt as though they were his own Floor is a highly sensitive person and she was feeling everything and avoids eye contact with Tuomas A highly sensitive person (HSP) is someone who is thought to have an increased or deeper central nervous system sensitivity to physical, emotional, or social stimuli. i think she has also stated she is an empath as well makes this and every song that much more touching
Emotion is what makes Nightwish songs so powerful and heart touching. Most (if not all) songs are stories and memories from (mostly) Tuomas and other band members. And you know, I said before, Floor is the single one perfect person to tell all this stories, her ability to trigger emotions with her spot on stage performance makes these songs so powerful. Talking about Tuomas' emotions and stories, pleas watch/listen The Poet and the Pendulum ... Don't read into the backstory too much for the first listen because this is a good example of how they deliver emotions and tell stories in a perfect way, you don't even have to understand the lyrics I think. Then read the story about the song, I think you wouldn't be surprised too much lol.
I'm not sure if you only pull your choices of songs to react to from your stream or from comments as well, but you might be interested in checking out Floor when she was in ReVamp, which was her band after she left After Forever and before she joined Nightwish. There's a live recording on youtube of a song called Disdain - quite a departure from what she does in Nightwish (both in terms of sound and look). Might be interesting for you as a reaction vid. Cheers.

Your point of tuomas hit me. Also some call him metal mozart so there's that. In a nutshell Floor is petfect for Nightwish and Nightwish is perfect for her.

Another great reaction and thank you for your explanations much appreciated. Makes if so more impressive. Loving your Nightwish and Floor journey 😃👏🏻👍🏻🤘🏻
A lonely soul. An ocean's soul. Great finish to a powerful tune.
Thank you, I am learning so much about music listening to you!!
Aw that makes me so happy, Marianne!!!!!!! I can't even express that in a comment!
I love how you geek out about it :) I didn't understand how hard it is until you pointed it out, but yes, she makes it seem so easy! This used to be my go-to song with Nightwish, and it's still a top favorite, it feels like 'my' song sometimes despite me not being any kind of musician...
You should - eh - must see Nightwish Islander, live in Tampere. Awesome performance...
@Sartyva_EVE
is quite right, it was either real suicide or musical suicide, and thank goodness the latter prevailed, what a loss that would have been.
He now has, and damn, it was worth the wait.
Correct me if I'm wrong but from 18:00 on I think I caught you in string of floorgasms LOL... Your body language said it all. Enjoyed this one again!
Thanks for your explanation and reaction ! Hope next time Beste Zangers with phantom of the opera. Looking forward.😊
Very nice reacts till now you did on Nightwish.
A very underrated song which is't often reacted to. Sahara live at Tampa.
BTW subbed
Fine comments. Greetings from Vienna...
Thank you for having something interesting to say.
I love music and beautiful vocals, and I have never ever heard anyone that I have ever heard on Floor's vocal level.
You should stop by the stream then! We're discovering new amazing streamers all the time. Join us!
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Agree with you, there a lot of new young singers in the world with a lot of talent.
'I know it doesn't sound hard' - in my experience that's the sign of enormous skill that's been developed by a massive amount of practice.
also worth to say that Tuomas has said he is an empath so all of the emotions others may feel were felt as though they were his own
Floor is a highly sensitive person and she was feeling everything and avoids eye contact with Tuomas A highly sensitive person (HSP) is someone who is thought to have an increased or deeper central nervous system sensitivity to physical, emotional, or social stimuli. i think she has also stated she is an empath as well makes this and every song that much more touching
I love this reaction. Seen it many times. Sad charlie retired.
The first lines of the poem is "inspired" by Shakespeare's Sonnet 71. "Nay, if you read this line, remember not the hand that wrote it"
Some older nightwish songs had quotes from shakespeare's sonnets (e.g. gethsemane)
I like this version, it's different, modern, excellent use of belting. The original is sublime
Still my favorite Nightwish song... Ever.
Interviewer: Whats you happiest moment in life?
Tuomas: Floor...
He said that?
@@damianvc31 This is how I imagine he should answer that question.
@@JoakimDrakoga gotcha lol I brain farted for a second
I want my tears back live in Buenos Aires cause we are the best audience ever lol and shoemaker plz plz plz!!!
Cheers.
Uploading a 2010 revamp reaction next week
The song " El perdón " by .Diana Navarro
Hey Troy, what instruments can you play?
Troy: yes
You're not sweating. It's your melted brain that pours out! ;-)
Speaking of metal Mozart, try Gethsemane from the same concert. Classical, opera, metal all mixed into one glorious song
Awesome old skool song♥️ And Tuomas is insane here! He was 20 years when he wrote this song if i'm right ?! 😱
@@mjoezic3198 He was! Oceanborn was just magical and it arguably gave Nightwish the whole symphonic power metal brand. Stargazers, followed by Gethsemane? a m a z i n g
Hail to the Queen Floor Jansen🔥🤘NIGHTWISH ARMY
....and she was recovering from the flu.
Beautiful.
Your point of tuomas hit me. Also some call him metal mozart so there's that.
In a nutshell Floor is petfect for Nightwish and Nightwish is perfect for her.
The band knows she can produce that high sound out of nowhere,
see them performing the cover of the Heart cover " Alone" on the ship The Baltic Princess in 2015.
Marco is shouting "She's gonna do it, she's gonna do it!!"

And Floor recently singing Alone alone: amazing!

Floor & marko - ave maria
And mary christmas for all 😀
You want some immaculate low notes go for ‘song of myself’, Wacken.. and near the end there I’m pretty sure I saw a major Floorgasm. Heh.
Yes, that one is great, too.
