You know you've been watching this channel for a long time when you expect the intro to go "This video is in affiliation with Collingwood...." and then get surprised when it doesn't haha 🤣
Did most of my driving lessons at night because it was winter and always after school! Glad I did though because it made it much less daunting when I passed 👍 great video!
I’ve written several comments on your videos, all praising the quality and value of your content, and this one is just another one recognising your amazing work and thanking you for teaching us great things... Greetings from Mexico!
Nice video it’s really important to know how to drive at night as most driving lessons are done during the day, so driving at night could catch new drivers by surprise. It’s also worth mentioning that halogen headlights naturally dim over time so if you notice your headlights are dimmer than usual, go and replace them you will be surprised at the light difference when you replace them.
Hey Richard, would you ever consider making a video on track driving and how to drive faster? Like how to get your gear changes, braking, steering right, etc?
This would be awesome but unfortunately, most insurances specifically mention that it's void on circuits or circuits that act as roadways. Almost all specifically name drop the Nürburgring Nordschleife to aha
Watching your videos from France. It's strange how I can understand you even with your accent. It's soooooo wierd when I see you drive on the left side of the road haha
Thank you very much Dear Richard for my requested Video :-). It was, in deed, an informative video and of course, preparation is very important for driving at night. You made the right start by dividing the video into 2 parts. Thank you.
A video on what to expect going from a modern to an older car would be nice. Plenty of people learn in a car with the mod cons that omes with a newer vehicle, then go and buy an older (i.e. cheaper) car for their first and have to adjust to the changes (Worse [halogen] lights, no parking/reverse/proximity sensors, worse visiblility, lower power/torque, no anti-stall or push start, no ABS, e.c.t.....)
Good video. I passed my test over 2 years ago and I work nights. I am used to night time driving so always do that for us. I remember when they wanted to make new drivers have a curfew to say time driving only and thought that if I was finished and passed my test, I still would have to catch transport to work
Thank you so much for the offer you gave us. ✌️ I booked my test on 04,03,21 I hope it’s not going to be canceled, even tho it’s hard to go to test with our any lesson for almost 2 months 😔 ! I even don’t know how things are going around us such a difficult time ! 😓 Stay safe ! 🤲
My dad's Renault Espace (2007) has a green dashboard light for dipped beams aswell as sidelights. The sidelight logo also isn't the same as normal.. The colour is still green though. The green dipped light turns off when you switch to highbeams. When I had quite weak halogens on my car (and a bulb blew soon after, so perhaps on their way out anyway) I accidentally drove a few hours around town just on sidelights.. With streetlighting being nearly as bright as my dipped beams and no dashboard indication, I couldn't tell the difference.!
I have done that a few times myself with side lights. I don't agree that the dashboard lights come on with side lights, seems silly to me. They situation occur when I pull over, turn to sidelights to help people see I'm parked, then forget.
I dip my lights when driving in town when street lamps are around, cuz i dont need to shine in front as much and roads around here are not exactly smooth, so i dont blind other people going towards me after leaving a nice pothole :D with no street lamps around i put them fully up obviously :)
I know you've done a reversing video, but can you do one in a busy parking bay maybe explain the 45degree and 90 degree methods if you don't mind? :) love the videos so much information thanks :)
My advice is to practise in quiet areas. When it's busy, use your signal and position to help people understand what your intentions are. The 45 degree method is a lot easier to judge as you are much closer to the finishing position before you start.
You kinda got no choice but to drive in the dark if you work a 9-5 if you live more than a certain distance away from the equator in the wintertime. Where I live, it goes dark at 3 pm on the shortest days, although on the longest winter days it can go fully dark as late as 6 pm and most winter days are somewhere in between.
I also hate driving at night, but I fear more from the 2 legged animals who drive cars.. BTW rearfoglights vs brakelights. I think they can not be confused, because cars produced from 2003 in EU all are equipped with 3 brake lights 1 is centered and integrated into the trunk door. The rear foglight mostly is in the rear bumper or nearby in the rear lights
Fact Modern cars have got extremely powerful Adaptive LED Lights which are Electronically controlled and can come on Automatically if set to Automatic ( Refer to Owners manual). Some cars have got HID ( High Intensity Diode) which are brighter then LED, this upgrade will increase visibility at night...
@Conquer Driving I admit it seems hard to find in any physical shops in UK. But I can find them in online shops like ebay and Amazon eventually. I have just recently bought a full set of Alca for both my windscreen and rear window, for £14.5. German make but made in P.R.C. I guess it will last long enough but won't be idealistically long. I haven't a clue about the origin of Bosch.
Honda Panda is the first car ever I've without a side lights option and it's very odd. If you were to tow Panda at night the lights would glare you. But I guess it's a bit more bearable if you dip them all the way down. Edit: Fiat, not Honda, lol
I got blue coating on my glasses expecting them to be as useful as green if not more-so when driving! How come blues are worse? If I knew I would've just gone for cheaper greens! 13:20
@@ConquerDriving Ok, I will look further into it then. I have thankfully got an outdated prescription pair of glasses, so if I replace those I will make them green for driving and keep blues for my constant computer use :P Thanks by the way for your videos, they helped me pass my test earlier today! These driving and night among other videos I imagine I'll still find useful going forward :D
How do cars like the MX-5 with automatic main beam know how to turn them off? Is that controlled by one of the sensors you often see at the top of the windscreen in front of the rear view mirror, or sometimes in the mirror housing itself?
Hello Richard , Thank you for your videos I have a bmw series 3 and the windscreen is smearing when i use the blade while running I changed the blade by the original one from bmw dealer but still the same problem. Can you tell me how to fix this problem please ?

My instructor never told me about this night driving because my all driving classes was based in morning class so when I was trying to park a car in reserve then my car was hit from the door of my house 😢😢😢😢 and my family angry at me so much..now I decided to drive a car not again 😢😢
Such a helpful video again, thank you! 🙌🏻 I had a question that I’ve been struggling to find the answer too anywhere, if you come across a large pot hole during your test, what’s the best course of action? My partner hit one during his test, the tyre popped and he failed but there was no way he could get out of the way without putting himself in danger. Should you stop and wait until there’s space to go around, go over it carefully, or go round slightly over the line and do you need to indicate to go round a pothole? Thanks 🙈
It is acceptable to hit small pot holes but holes large enough to possibly damage the car should be treated like any obstruction, such as a parked cars. Wait until it is safe to go round it.
I avoid night driving so thank you for this video. 1 question about Windows, I have a 2003 Honda civic and it seems to attract a lot of condensation so early mornings can be a challenge. Do you have any suggestions?
@@hayleyjones3809 Normally means water is getting into the car somehow, like a leak through the door or boot seals. There may be a leak somewhere letting water into the interior. This only happens when there is excess moisture in the car especially if it is there before you turn the engine on. Sometimes the heater can make it worse before it makes it better.

As a new driver, I much appreciate this video, thank you so much for uploading it 😀
I am a new driver and have learnt a lot from your channel. Thank you for your detailed explanation.
can't wait for part 2, it's so impossible to see on a fast country lane in the rain at night.
