I passed my manual test on my first try on Thursday. I have gained so much knowledge from all of your videos, thanks so much Richard. I will continue to watch you to become a better driver, you’re a legend!
Thank you Richard. This video describes exactly what I have to face everyday. I have just moved to the UK from Hong Kong. And there are many challenges on the road in the UK compared with in HK. Many closed junctions, many mini roundabouts, many busy junctions without traffic lights so I have to make my decisions, many narrow two-way roads with parked cars on both sides. Everyday I drive like playing electronic video games. Thanks for your videos!
Hi Richard, I’m from Singapore. I passed my driving test for manual car on my first attempt and your videos really helped a lot! I’m thankful I chanced upon your channel and am still watching your videos even though I passed. How it works in Singapore is that different driving faults (e.g. fail to signal in good time would be 2 demerit points) have different demerit points and serious mistakes here are known as immediate failure mistakes. To pass the test, testee should not accumulate more than 20 points AND not have any serious fault.
when i was in singapore last night i noticed that our taxi signalled way early (the turn wasn't even in sight yet) and the blinker was left on for maybe a minute and that people really weren't staying in the middle of their lane, is that the custom there or is that just around scotts rd?
great video as always. the moment you said there is a bend but you can't yet tell which way it is going, I feel a heavy weight came off from my shoulder. I always thought i can't tell the direction of a bend because of my incompetence. now that i know it is normal to not be able to tell. so i can just slow down and take my time to read the road and no panic! Thanks again for making these videos. They have made a world of difference.

Remember, rule no.1 for driving, be it on a highway or city roads, is to get safely from point A to B.

omg thank you Richard I spoke about this topic about 4-5 weeks ago thank you so much for this video My awareness has improved ! this video is great thank you🙃🙃🙃
You are so right about stressing out about the people behind so much that I am less prepared for hazards in front - my first driving instructor always got me to check my mirrors even before ever slowing down and in general always be checking/aware if there is someone behind you but I find that needlessly pulls my attention away and unless I'm pulling out or in slightly around parked cars I can't see why that's necessary - if I need to stop abruptly then it's an emergency, I'm not going to hit a person just because someone's riding my tail way too close.
You have to check your mirrors before changing anything and it's a necessity to know what is going on around you (situational awareness). It's part of the test and missing a mirror check could get you a minor fault or worse. It should become second nature once you get used to it and it's an essential part of driving. A quick glance is all that is needed and it shouldn't distract you from what is going on ahead of you.
Em, I totally agree with you, checking your mirrors before braking can only delay braking meaning you will have to brake harder. On test I've only had pupils get marked down for not checking their mirrors before slowing down if they have had to brake harshly, which I've always found to be strange as if they checked their mirrors first, they would have to brake even harder.
I have really learnt a lot from your videos especially on making right and left turns and how much to turn the wheel. Am from Zambia and we drive on the left side of the road like u in the UK and so it's easy to learn from you. Keep up the good work

Thanks for this video Richard - I'm very close to doing my test (next month) and I feel a lot more confident with my driving due to your advice on scenarios like this. I've started adopting this thought process and I believe that it will help me make good decisions and make my driving much smoother and of course a more respectful driver. Appreciate it!
I passed today with 3 minors. Your videos and way of explaining things helped me so so much. Thank you Richard for being there from the start. You really are amazing ❤️
Learning how to drive since about one month im Switzerland. You are making some really good educational Videos, thank you very much for taking the time creating these! Now i just need to watch out that i don't accidentially drive on the left side here 😅
Really helpful video as usual, I can relate to what you said about not anticipating and planning because I'm worried about the drivers behind, this was me always rushing to get out of the way. I'm definitely working on this tho now my confidence is increasing 😊 I've also never heard of the term 'leaving the door open' makes sense tho and helpful, thanks for this 😊
i rarely drive a night only if a have too, can do it no issue but what bugs me bright lights behind so when safe i give signal to left they pass. normally early morning rush, 5am roads quite and fast locals caught up some blew past but few just followed closer than i like so next town signal left they went around, driving country lanes what driven before but rarely and never at night so i was slower than normal at times, when safe i allow them to pass they happy and im happy and few give thank you wave or flash hazards as they pass but if not safe for them to pass it tough luck they have to go at the speed i feel safe, even tho im no way a slow driver quick at times always catching up people but on roads you do not know or road with loads hazards i drive with extra caution even if it is slower than the driver behind likes and if they holding back i sure help to get them past when safe, reckless ones they pass first chance they get safe or not so just be ready to adjust speed
Passed my test 3 minors today in an area I'd only previously driven for around 15 minutes. Could not have done it without watching your videos mate thank you a lot a lot a lot!
I passed my test today with 7 minors. Your videos have really helped me so I just wanted to say thanks. I will still be watching your videos though as I would like to keep improving my driving. Thank you :)
i’m a learner and i’m gonna try to drive more like this, usually i’m thinking “i don’t wanna slow traffic down” but it doesn’t help anyone if i’m driving without safety in mind
Your videos are absolutely amazing. I've been watching your videos since last 6 months and they have helped me big time. I passed my driving test here in Victoria, Australia a week back. Thank you so much for your informative videos which are extremely helpful for new driver or learner driver like me. Cheers!
Very enjoyable video. I've been watching your videos for a year now and also been learning to drive in that time too which is how I came across this channel. Very useful and interesting. Keep it up.
I live in Devon and I frequently enjoy road trips in both Devon and Cornwall. One technique I find very helpful with blind bends is having the lights on (dipped), even in daytime. Judging by the oncoming vehicle's sudden maneuver in response to the light, I can't tell you how many times I've avoided accidents thanks to that (in combination with slowing down, too).
The road where I live is narrow with cars on both sides like in your example - it also has a couple of blind corners, ohh and it's also on a steep hill! I passed back in November but feel like I'm still learning how to anticipate other drivers and plan ahead for spaces to wait/pass safely. Watching your videos are definitely helping me to feel more confident!
We should all anticipate to give way even when it's our right of way. You do see people barrelling down narrow roads with cars parked on your side and don't stop because it's "ThEiR rIgHt Of WaY" even though you already committed long before them.
I’ve watched countless videos of yours and I’m finding them so helpful! Thank you for doing these videos , I have my test on June 6th so fingers crossed I pass!
I struggled for ages, doing lessons on and off and the problem was always anticipation. I found the solution was a better instructor. My first two were very old school and made me feel stupid for making mistakes, so I'd always hesitate in fear of making mistakes. A new approach and I'm a thousand times better.
I am in the same situation now. 2 times failed already. My instructor is constantly distracted himself and always yelling at me even on my test day. School said now it’s not possible to change the instructor and I don’t know how to deal with him and this is my last chance.
Another great video with a ton of practical information, thank you for that one video! You need a membership button my friend, a lot of support will come I'm sure.
Your videos are fantastic, been watching as an add on to my lessons with my instructor. Clears up so much that we just don’t have time to go through during our allotted time. Thank you!
One thing you didn’t touch on about anticipation is that you should also factor in your survivability and damage, for example, when I’m driving a big pickup truck I’d be less nervous when I see someone with a sedan weaving in and out of traffic, and wouldn’t really bother to brake so sharply when that car suddenly cuts me off, on the other hand if I’m driving a sedan and someone with a pickup doing the same thing, I would definitely react much more differently.
Just one more reason to teach anticipation to new drivers/riders these days in some countries is because of rapidly increasing population in some cities. So, the probability of a vehicle coming where 3-4 roads meet is very high as compared to a few years ago.
What you teach should be made as mandatory rules on junctions in my country where ppl drive terribly and this anticipation is what helps me and others who do. Otherwise every single day lot of deaths due to road accident and 9/10 times due to reckless driving and not at all following rules or using common sense
@@ConquerDriving you sir are doing a great job because I am sure with less than 10 k kms under my belt am a better driver than quite a few experienced ones because they are usually over confident and end up doing sudden/impulsive breaking. Even though I look like a beginner in front of them doing such stops/pauses to be cautious on bends and blind spots, I should end up safely... 👍🏻
Wow wow super video Veey helpsful We need videos like this Have you done a video on how to deal with pot holes, pits and flood on roads? If not, please do one It will be very helpful
Another great video. I'll be starting my lessons in September and your videos have really helped me when it comes to nerves and anxiety. I've always thought that I wouldn't be able to do it, and your videos have helped me get over that mental barrier. I can see this video helping with the hazard perception portion of the theory test. Thank you!

Anticipating and awareness I don’t know when should I reacted.
Thanks for your helpful videos.
I’m not from the UK but these videos are still very helpful and try to apply these where I live and feel more and more confident when I take my driving test soon
Good luck, I hope it goes well!
I love that you anticipate that all pedestrians will fall over 😂
Great content. Thanks
Good luck with your test!
I passed today with 3 minors. Your videos and way of explaining things helped me so so much. Thank you Richard for being there from the start. You really are amazing ❤️
That's so great to hear, congratulations on passing!
I'm definitely working on this tho now my confidence is increasing 😊
I've also never heard of the term 'leaving the door open' makes sense tho and helpful, thanks for this 😊
i rarely drive a night only if a have too, can do it no issue but what bugs me bright lights behind so when safe i give signal to left they pass. normally early morning rush, 5am roads quite and fast locals caught up some blew past but few just followed closer than i like so next town signal left they went around, driving country lanes what driven before but rarely and never at night so i was slower than normal at times, when safe i allow them to pass they happy and im happy and few give thank you wave or flash hazards as they pass but if not safe for them to pass it tough luck they have to go at the speed i feel safe, even tho im no way a slow driver quick at times always catching up people but on roads you do not know or road with loads hazards i drive with extra caution even if it is slower than the driver behind likes and if they holding back i sure help to get them past when safe, reckless ones they pass first chance they get safe or not so just be ready to adjust speed
Passed my test 3 minors today in an area I'd only previously driven for around 15 minutes. Could not have done it without watching your videos mate thank you a lot a lot a lot!
That's great news, congratulations on passing!
Just want to say thanks for all the videos!! I've been watching them not-stop last week as I had a test today. Passed 2nd time!!!
That's great to hear, congratulations on passing!
I passed my test today with 7 minors. Your videos have really helped me so I just wanted to say thanks.
I will still be watching your videos though as I would like to keep improving my driving.
Thank you :)
That's fantastic to hear, congratulations on passing!
i’m a learner and i’m gonna try to drive more like this, usually i’m thinking “i don’t wanna slow traffic down” but it doesn’t help anyone if i’m driving without safety in mind
I have passed my test last year. Still come to check your videos, they are very good 😊
I can't thank you enough, friend.
Really I appreciate your time for us.
Your videos are absolutely amazing. I've been watching your videos since last 6 months and they have helped me big time. I passed my driving test here in Victoria, Australia a week back. Thank you so much for your informative videos which are extremely helpful for new driver or learner driver like me. Cheers!
That's fantastic to hear, congratulations on passing!
@@ConquerDriving thanks 😊
Very enjoyable video. I've been watching your videos for a year now and also been learning to drive in that time too which is how I came across this channel. Very useful and interesting. Keep it up.
I live in Devon and I frequently enjoy road trips in both Devon and Cornwall. One technique I find very helpful with blind bends is having the lights on (dipped), even in daytime. Judging by the oncoming vehicle's sudden maneuver in response to the light, I can't tell you how many times I've avoided accidents thanks to that (in combination with slowing down, too).
Good advice!
You will be learning your whole driving life. The first two years is the most significant.
It’s very helpful. Would you please make more video similar to this? Analysing every move is really a treasure for us learner.
Thank you very much!
Thank you, I will try my best.
We should all anticipate to give way even when it's our right of way. You do see people barrelling down narrow roads with cars parked on your side and don't stop because it's "ThEiR rIgHt Of WaY" even though you already committed long before them.
Passed my test on Saturday albeit the inspector was bribed which has to be done 😭, learnt a lot from this channel. Thank you from South Africa
Looking in the bodywork of parked cars for reflections of vehicles / cyclists approaching from around a corner can help with anticipation.
I’ve watched countless videos of yours and I’m finding them so helpful! Thank you for doing these videos , I have my test on June 6th so fingers crossed I pass!
Good luck!
I passed!!! 6 minors I’ll take it 🔥
Thank you for your videos I passed my test today with 5 minors 👍
That's great to hear! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
❤️
You helped me pass the test in the morning yesterday! Thank you ❤
That's fantastic news! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
@@ConquerDriving thank you :)
In fact you are really a good teacher, I do love watching your videos and also make me a better learner 💯💯
perfect video! I think this is the most important non-technical ascpect of driving anything! even a bicycle for that matter
I struggled for ages, doing lessons on and off and the problem was always anticipation. I found the solution was a better instructor. My first two were very old school and made me feel stupid for making mistakes, so I'd always hesitate in fear of making mistakes. A new approach and I'm a thousand times better.
I'm happy to hear you have found someone who can help. I do recommend changing until you find one that suits you.
I am in the same situation now. 2 times failed already. My instructor is constantly distracted himself and always yelling at me even on my test day. School said now it’s not possible to change the instructor and I don’t know how to deal with him and this is my last chance.
Thank you so much Richard, I'm a new driver and I got through the basics but your videos help me keep sharp and always improving/learning
Another great video with a ton of practical information, thank you for that one video! You need a membership button my friend, a lot of support will come I'm sure.
Looks like you were on an Up country road trip. Love your videos ❤️
Your videos are fantastic, been watching as an add on to my lessons with my instructor. Clears up so much that we just don’t have time to go through during our allotted time. Thank you!
Hi, i’m from the Philippines. Your videos are really helpful. Thanks
One of the best videos on your channel👍👍👍 thank you
Hey, Richard! For your future videos, that are literal life savers, could you cover the intersections and the right of way?
Thank you, I may do in the future.
Your videos are all I need right now😊
One thing you didn’t touch on about anticipation is that you should also factor in your survivability and damage, for example, when I’m driving a big pickup truck I’d be less nervous when I see someone with a sedan weaving in and out of traffic, and wouldn’t really bother to brake so sharply when that car suddenly cuts me off, on the other hand if I’m driving a sedan and someone with a pickup doing the same thing, I would definitely react much more differently.
Bro you are the best your videos helped me alot i have passed ❤
Anticipation is everything.
That's true, driving is more challenging these days.
Wow wow super video
Veey helpsful
We need videos like this
Have you done a video on how to deal with pot holes, pits and flood on roads? If not, please do one
It will be very helpful
Another great video. I'll be starting my lessons in September and your videos have really helped me when it comes to nerves and anxiety. I've always thought that I wouldn't be able to do it, and your videos have helped me get over that mental barrier. I can see this video helping with the hazard perception portion of the theory test. Thank you!
hell yeah this is the kinda video i need right now
It would be great to have your pedals in view as well for your next similar video.
I have same problem. Thank you for this video
I know you also do car reviews on TV but i must say your presentation skills are outstanding. Something i sorely lack as someone who is not naturally a camera type personality. Hopefully i will get there one day 😂 great content though.
In India, we use horns+slowness to communicate car's presence in bends and other blindspots.
Thanks a lot for your videos with detailed explanation. I am still misjudging for oncoming cars and parked cars. Can you please do a video on what extra care we need to take while taking driving test at 8.10 am?? Unfortunately my driving test is in a couple of weeks and at 8.10 am.
I haven't got any specific advice for the time you are taking your test but this video may help: ua-cam.com/video/XV7MlqitugY/v-deo.html
