Think that would pretty much ruin all of his commentary. Obviously if they explained to him how the world and ctos works, everything would make sense because it has an in world reason to explain it. Because he doesn't know it, he can compare how it makes sense in real life and bring the game into a realistic perspective.
Marthy _sv i got a virus infected the exe file tho because my antivirus detecting it and attempt to remove it, i not able to play it so i have to reinstall swat 4 i unexpectedly got the virus after i buy a used laptop because its cheap and installing swat 4 in it
Seriously, i really feel that no one ever told him the game's story and that the whole city is connected by the same sistem, like if they just came to the guy reacting and said "So, in this game you ate a hacker and you can hack shit around yhe city, talk obout if it's possible or not based on what you see" and that's it, thr videk could be so much more educative and interesting if people actually had some backstory and context on what they are reacting too
The reason why most of these hacks are possible in the universe of watch dogs is because of the fiction system CTOS which as shown in the games forces manufacturers, companies, and the government to employ CTOS compatibility for security, threat detection, and improved services. And as the story shows this system would inevitably be horribly abused by one or more entities
Tech enthusiasts: have smart-devices all through their house. Tech experts: the most advanced thing they have is a printer from 2004 and a loaded gun next to it in case it makes any funny noises. Security experts: wish they were in the Stone Age.
I wonder how different Samy's feedback would've been if he knew about fictional centralized system that basically has access to everything from personal info to cars, traffic lights etc. introduced in the game.
Erebos I dunno much about hacking but I did some quick search on google. Oscilloscope can be use to pick up RFID that is use by various card like credit card. He said himself that he also test vulnerability in ATM so he kinda need it.
The thing to remember with Watch Dogs is that the setting is a city that is entirely connected and integrated down to devices as simple as a treadmill. Everything has some kind of computer processor in it and is connected.
Okay gamology, it's pretty obvious some these hacks aren't possible but with the ctOS element I think it changes a lot. Was really hoping to hear his take on the idea of a ctOS type system in the real world and if that really makes some of these hacks very real.
One big thing about the whole name and personal info in the system is that the city was being shadow ran by CToS which was basically a huge security/tech firm that had their hands in everything aaaand also illegally sniffed data and recorded a loooot of it.
actually theres a canon reason for most of those, being that in watch dogs everything is interconnected with ctos including peoples information, so you don't actually hack into their phones to get that, you use the ctos backdoor
You can see they use Debian based distribution with Mate desktop environment. In the game you can see tools like Nmap, MetaSploit, Empire, Aircrack-NG and not only. I saw python, c, cpp, ruby, js, even swift code
Great video. I wish you had also have him react to cool stuff like Blackouts, overriding cars and robots. I love this game and it's quite interesting how alot of the hacks can be done. I feel like you should've given him more context by telling him what role ctOS plays in these games.
More of Samy pls!! Actually all of this things are possible, but the way Samy explains them gives another perspective yo it based on all the things he know! He is an inspiration for all or the InfoSec community!
I think the thing they are getting at with how easy the hacking is in the games is the fact that in all of these games the entire city has been pout on a city wide operating system ctOS.
First of all he's at his own home due to covid 19 and second there are professional hackers that exist that are hired to crack a company's system to tell them their weaknesses And the video outright said his occupation if you were paying attention
you got to explain to him about ctos. Marcus is not hacking the devices . he hacked ctos's server once which has a control over those devices, and he controls the servers using ctos.
This is the guy who put a JavaScript code on MySpace, then whoever saw his profile automatically added to his friendlist and victim's profile has 'Samy is my hero' written on it. Same happened with whoever, then saw victim's profile. I think that was what he got caught for.
If any one curious, all the stuff that is hacked in this game was made by the in game company CTOS. In first mission you install a backdoor into the system allowing to use various devices like phones to easily access the hardware. GG.
I love how everyone who knows about games but not hacking yellsn at ubisoft that it is impossible without listening to people who know something. The whole concept of the game is that everything is connected to a Wi - Fi
