I've seen Bob Dylan exactly fifty times and I can say confidently that there never again will be anyone like Bob Dylan. He's on another level completely. It's been a great ride Bob. Thanks for everything.
Thanks for uploading this version. This is why we needed an official live bootleg series of the 78 tour. The Earl's court and Blackbushe Aerodrome UK concerts were truly amazing. The passion in Bob's voice points forward to Slow Train.
Dylan fans are always excited.the first time I saw Dylan in Milwaukee at the eagles ballroom in the early 2000s. My dad took me and I took my best friend Joey. a fan in the front row was pointing to him giving him your the man hand vibes. Dylan pointed right back at him saying, "no, you!". Cracked my 13 year old self, he then went into a a wild unintelligeable version of Like a Rolling Stone. The sound in that reverb soaked ancient arcane ballroom wasn't dialed in that night, and Dylan's vocals were lost in hazy rocking delta blues renditions of his classic repertoire. We all left a little disappointed but Dylan taught me a lesson as a an artist to keep keeping on like a bird that flew; don't look back; strike another match go start a new. These phrases ring like modern day mantras resonating and illuminating still. "Shakespeare was the Dylan of his time" - sir Paul castagna of highway 2.
I collected most of the available 1978 recordings back in the day, and because I loved this arrangement so much, I would fast forward the tapes to listen to it and compare the performance with other shows I had recordings for. The best performances of the song (in my opinion, of course) were in Carbondale, Illinois, which a friend recorded, and Toledo, which I saw and recorded, but managed to accidentally drop my tape of the first half of the show in the arena. I placed an ad in the University of Toledo newspaper in hopes that someone might return it to me if found, but someone contacted me who had a superior recording of it.
I did the same thing. First had to check this song out on every bootleg I bought from 78. Had the pleasure to see this show in New Haven Connecticut. Unfortunately, there are no soundboard recordings of any of the shows he performed on this tour. A great mystery.
Never before , has a much slower version of this song been performed, until this 78 World Tour. I experienced this similar delivery of Bob and his band in Adelaide, South Australia. 78. Due to Bobs continual new versions of his own songs Live, this bootleg from L.A came to surface allowing me to remember and realize that all relationships are hard to navigate. Best version thats my take.
I heard a version live in Adelaide, Australia.1978. Played in the same spare melodic voice and instrumental style. I have seen 4 live concerts 1966,1978,1986 and 2014. No other piece of music sung in this feel has had such a lasting haunting presence upon myself since.
It was "I Want You" that he played solo with guitar in the 78 Earls Court concert that I saw. That was spine tingling - but Tangled up in Blue has grown in stature more over the years and this version is so much superior to the album version
Another great version of this song done the same way and same year but just a slightly different recording and what I think is a better vocal performance is on the bootleg “I Was Young When I Left Home” I urge all of you to find it, absolutely breathtaking

What an awesome reworking of the melody. I'd have loved to hear the song done in this style in a studio or at least with higher quality recording. Great find!
So Denny how do we go about getting this healing ,soothing and complicated love song,in these Covo times, out to others.Prescence is what we need most?
I've shared it once to a bunch of friends on an email blast that I do on Fridays. Maybe I need to do it again or might try FB. Thanks for the visit. Be safe.
Denny when i heard this version of TUIB at a concert in 1978 i realized this isnt just a story of Bob and Sahra .,but my own TUIB marriage and maybe a few others. It spoke to me becos he spoke the song, as if you where in his room and the Barb began his story.

This is why the man is a musical genius. He effortlessly reconfigures his tunes into crazy iterations to keep himself amused.
And what's really nuts is they work.

Only one Bob Dylan. I so happy I love and appreciate his music as much as I do. Bob the greatest. This song just another master piece.
Best version I've ever heard from Bob Dylan's whole Music comes to save someone's heart and soul forever young as his other ones! Loved it so much!❤

@@alanbrown8527 Yes, especially since it was basically the same tour-just a different leg-from which Bob Dylan at Budokan was compiled.
Man... this version... It hits you right in the soul.
Great version. Dylan sang with a Lot of feeling. Love the sax.
Best version ever - like a torch song - had a double vinyl bootleg from this tour with this as the outstanding track💔

An amazing version ! Thanks for sharing.
Can't get enough of it!
so exquisite...... Can hardly believe it is real..
Marvelous .. Marvelous..
Thank you for posting this on youtube...
Thank you !!
what a version
Woah. My new fav version!
I saw this at Earls Court, pretty sure he played this on his own at the end of the 1st half acoustic set, still the best performance I've ever heard
It was "I Want You" that he played solo with guitar in the 78 Earls Court concert that I saw. That was spine tingling - but Tangled up in Blue has grown in stature more over the years and this version is so much superior to the album version
Quelle belle version...! Mr Dylan merci de nous donner tant d,emotions...
He should put out a full album of the different ways he sings Tangled Up in Blue. The rearranger. 👍
I have always felt that the same could be done with different versions of Shelter From the Storm.
Another great version of this song done the same way and same year but just a slightly different recording and what I think is a better vocal performance is on the bootleg “I Was Young When I Left Home” I urge all of you to find it, absolutely breathtaking
Dylan’s guitarist on this tour said this was his favorite performance and he didn’t play on it.I saw him do twice on this 78 tour.
Great posting, 1978 had one of the best TUIB versions!
My first Bob show.
Not exactly what I was looking for... thanks for the unexpected pleasure!
Never cared that much for the album version of this song but this live performance is gold. Lovely alternate melody to already wonderful lyrics.
gorgeous. Thank you for posting.
Fantastic thanks 🙏 for sharing
I’ve never heard this. I’m blown away.
Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it!
Best version of tuib is on real live its amazing
Dylan said in an interview that the Real Live version is his favorite.
Keeping the arrangement exactly the same but changing the lyrics.... genuine genius
@@MrJmt33 he changes the chords slightly for real live too

When he met Christ he changed the book of poems to the Bible! That was in the \us winter tour.

Best rework of his own work. From LIFE SENTENCE bootleg Album and its sitting next to me but i havnt got a record player. Goddamn!
Care to let it go? :)
I have this bootleg. It is called Life Sentence. I saw one of the shows but have no idea which night. I know it was a weekend. LOL
This was actually pulled from a different bootleg, but still a bootleg. It would be interesting to see how they vary if at all.
What is the name of the bootleg Denny.
Rickey, it's from: Live In Los Angeles - Version B. It can be found on Bigozine if you look around.
Life Sentence is from those L.A. shows in June 1978 prior to Europe tour
Great . TKS
ohh God

I suspect the band didnt rehearse this version.Just shows how the now is the place to bee.

Same here - never really warmed up to the album version, but this is sublime!
Sounds like Colonel Sanders is covering Dylan or "Slim Whitman". live at budokan was artistic suicide nearly as unlistenable as metal machine music
