    I’m a 28 years old living abroad alone. This used to be one of my favorite breakfast growing up in Sri Lanka. Half boiled egg and add salt and pepper. Then eat it with bread. Suddenly I wanted to eat this 11pm and I can’t call my mum cuz it’s 2.30 am back in my country. So watched this video and it came out very very perfectly. I used to think I should put the eggs in boiling water and take out after few minutes. But most time it ended up being hard boiled egg. This method, egg came insanely perfectly. Thank you so much 🖤🫶🏻🇱🇰🇫🇷

    Hi and thank you for posting this old receipe.
    I tried this over 2 days with the following results: -
    Day 1 - 2 eggs at a time in the rolling pot of water:
    1) for 10 mins - egg white and yolk, already firmed, not runny,
    2) 8 mins - it looks more like a soft boiled egg, white firmed, yolk soft but firm, not runny,
    Day 2 - 2 eggs at a time
    3) 6 mins - white already turning firm (most of it have to be scoped up from the shell) and yolk about to get firm (ie still soft but not runny), but very slightly runny
    I also had one for 7 mins, but did not crack it open since at 6 mins, it is already not runny.
    I was using a 6 inch diameter pot and all the eggs were UK large from the same box as purchased from the market. Results so far is disappointing :(
    I suspect I have to get it to about 3 mins ??
    I also tried your traditional method of putting the eggs in a mug, but I use the same 6 inch pot with hot water from a boiling kettle. But this time I used the eggs STRAIGHT FROM THE FRIDGE and I got the following results:
    1) 6 mins - some whites still uncooked
    2) 7 mins - about right because still a little white uncooked, but hardly noticeable
    3) 8 mins - looks more like a poached eggs with whites soften firmed and yolk still a bit runny. I suspect if I leave it to 8.5 mins, both whites and yolk will be firmed and not runny
    So I suspect the ideal time for this method is about 7.5 mins (???)
    Over these 2 days I have eaten 7 half cooked eggs in this experiment with one left over uncracked yet. :)

      Boiled water and *stop the heat*.
      Pour hot water over the eggs and throw. Effectively preheating the eggs (preferably room temperature) and vessel.
      Pour hot water again to soak the eggs for 5-7 minutes.
      Size of eggs and relative amount of water matter. Trials and error.
      Best egg yolks for brain cell regeneration, say 4-20 daily. More for repair and less for maintenance. Cut down diet chicken and farm fish. Choose youngest smallest eggs, the younger the chicks the more nutrition the eggs.
      SHALOM ALL 💕

      I don’t know if you’ve already figured it out, but I’m wondering what you mean by the whites being “uncooked”. These soft boiled eggs aren’t supposed to have coagulated whites (in the video she scoops out some from the shell which isn’t ideal). The entire egg is supposed to be completely runny. The egg white is “cooked” in the sense that it is no longer transparent - it has turned white, but the texture is still liquid and silken. When you beat up the whole egg with dark soy sauce and white pepper, you’re supposed to be able to drink the whole thing down. Anthony Bourdain waxed lyrical about it, asking why not everyone in the world is eating eggs this way. I concur.

    • @tubefae3924
      @tubefae3924 4 роки тому +1

      Also, 7 minutes is generally too long. You need to experiment with the number of eggs vs size of vessel vs timing

    Here's the way to cook soft boil eggs straight from the fridge and using very little water:
    - boil about 1 inch of water (it's fast) in a small pot (for 2 eggs);
    - reduce flame when boil;
    - remove eggs from fridge and put into the pot;
    - cover with lid;
    - wait 4 minutes... half a minute more if you want firmer whites;
    - cool eggs in tap water and crack and serve.
    - for hardboiled eggs, time it for 6-7 mins.

    Thank you so much for your tutorial. Infact I was trying all these years to make perfect like what my mum used to do it when I was very young. I remembered that when I was young, I dragged having to eat this. My mum would force me to eat it before I get on the bus to school. Tears would come out. And I had to pinched my nose to swallow it all in one go.
    But as I grew older as an adult, I had a breakfast in one of the kopi tiam. And had it with bread and coffee. Enjoyed it.
    Now that I am in Australia, I tried to make it myself and couldn’t get a perfect half boiled to my liking.
    Thanks again and will try your method which looks so easy. Except that the time soaked is some sort important though.

    when i was a child my mom who was indonesian born chinese made me egg like this but not with soy sauce, just pepper powder and little bit salt served in small cup. the egg that we, indonesian, use for half boiled egg is free range chicken, the size a little bit smaller. ususally we eat it in the morning as breakfast. right noa it's not that popular anymore i do not know why. some still sell this kind menu at side road food stall or 'jamu' shop. i think british people also enjoy this menu, they even have small cup for serving it. the cup the size of half egg, they put the egg with its shell stand up inside the cup and they break the top shell to scoop the egg. they also use pepper powder, and not soy sauce.

    • @MalaysianChineseKitchen
      @MalaysianChineseKitchen  8 років тому +1

      It depends on the size of your saucepan. It will work so long as you have sufficient water to cover all the eggs. Also make sure the eggs are at room temperature. You do need to bring the water to a rolling boil. Then turn off the stove. If you are using an electric stove, take the saucepan off the stove so that the water will not continue to boil and over cook the eggs.

    Many thanks. Didn't know that it is so easy. If I have 4 eggs (50-55g each), do I follow your method ie submerge the 4 eggs in boiled water for 7-8 minutes?
