We recorded this video for a fan and Patreon patron named Peyton. We were going to play some music at his birthday party, but COVID had other plans, so we recorded this tune for him in lieu of an in-person performance. The original is by Steve Forbert, and I had never heard it before, so I'm grateful to be introduced to it!

why do guys have to fill my night with tears? I took my first girlfriend to graduation in 1982 in my brother's old truck. This song was on the radio when we drove to prom. I haven't seen her since, and don't know what happened to her.
I was just a girl, not even a teenager, when this came out. It has always been my favorite song. The melody is sweet, it's upbeat and positive, and it reminds me of life at a simpler time. Nostalgia and the years would dictate that I would weep upon hearing this...but I didn't. I smiled all the way through! I'm so glad you young folks are carrying these songs into another age. Y'all did it proper justice too!
I was in high school when this came out and we were reading Romeo & Juliet in English class. Any time I hear this song it takes me back to those days.

It's a nice rendition, but the chords to anyone who has played guitar really aren't that hard to play. I think crazy chords and wizardy from what I've read, is a bit over the top. A very nice rendition though.
The only thing wrong with this, is that I can only "Like" it once. What a connection of voice. Treasure it lady's, one day, life, then, ...
When you said, "neither of us had heard of this song before," you reminded me how old I am. Anyone from my generation had this song burned into their brain, it had a lot of airplay :). Nice cover!

Saw Steve in London late 80's. Been a fan ever since. It's weird coz whenever I bring his name up, nobody's ever heard of him. I can't explain why. Going down to Laurel is an all time favorite of mine.

Steve Forbert I think is my favourite act of all time and I had the pleasure of going to see him live in Cardiff a few years ago. I flew from Glasgow for the concert and it was brilliant. You guys do a great job of one of his best! Well done. Please learn more of Steve's numbers - he is such a good artist and you can do such good covers!! 👍😀

I was 15 when this came out. I've heard the original by Steve Forbert (love the vocals, wish he'd let more instrumental melody though), Keith Urban (burns hot leaves a listener satisfied and exhausted), and now by you. You've captured the song. Thank you.

I was a newlywed (2 years married) when that came out. I had to look it up as I was listening to country music exclusively at that time & never heard it before. I like this version better than the original. It's more like Keith Urban's version. And once again, Toni's talent shows! You were both great on a song you had never heard. But, Toni looked like she had been playing it for years!
Steve Forbert is a stellar songwriter, and you too did a really nice job with this great song! If you ever get a chance to see Steve live, don't miss it.
