Sat in on a couple of jams in Meridian, (Gemmie Shelter) it was a lifetime ago. I hung up my guitar and joined the Army....he was committed and had a dream and so much to offer. I still follow him today. With that said, I think it is sad that such a talent was pushed to the BACK and never exposed. A really great talent that has been overlooked and or shadowed buy less talented. He is loved in Europe, I saw him there while stationed in Germany.
@@capacola262743 I’d rather be a ‘one hit wonder’ with this man’s catalogue of tunes than a ‘multi-hit piece of shit’ like*insert almost any pop star ever*
Somewhere somehow I am going to see him perform live. He was in Atlanta a few years ago before I knew who he was( I have loved this song since the 70's but never knew the title nor who the artist was). Hopefully he will perform at another venue here soon.
Heard him on bus going to Madrid 1980 for real Madrid Celtic only had him to listen to all the way all the guy's on the bus still love him variety of ages
Strictly speaking, by the standards of radio airplay and all that, yes, Steve is probably a one-hit wonder. But he's been playing to enthusiastic fans for about 40 years since this performance, and an appearance at a venue near me over the weekend was sold out very quickly. If you had to have one hit, this is a pretty good one to have. I think more than any other song, it reminds me of that time, when I wasn't exactly batting 1.000 financially, romantically, professionally, and in almost every area, but also when nothing but opportunity was stretched out before me.
I think the phrase “one hit wonder” applies to musicians whose only claim to semi-fame is a single top 40 hit. But Steve Forbert has been writing and performing great songs nonstop for 40 years - and it just so happens that one of his great songs was also a hit.
It was definitely rushed. They knocked about 30 seconds off of a 3:30 song. Here's the definitive live version that went on the album: ua-cam.com/video/yE79UxDu7Xc/v-deo.html

That looks very much like young Shane Fontayne (later to play with the likes of Lone Justice and Bruce Springsteen) and those are his signature moves you're noticing. He also played lead guitar on that much trumpeted version of 'Stairway' that Heart played in front of Zep and Barack Obama. He must've been only about 26 when he recorded this and fresh over from London England onto the American scene.
@@ShaneFontayneCatalog Thanks Shayne. I actually did meet you just once very briefly, when you came to Goldsmiths College in South London in 1987 to do a small warm up show for a gig at Wembley. I was there with the principle intention of interviewing Maria McKee for our student newspaper, but after waiting around literally all day for the band to show, I ended up just sitting outside her dressing room, sitting opposite you. I have pictures of the gig because I brought a photographer along. You all put on a great show!

Steve Forbert: Overlooked legend! Saw him live at a small venue and he rocked the house!
more like a one hit wonder...BITCH!
He'll be at the Jimmie Rodgers festival in Meridian, Ms this year, May 2019 ♡

The lead guitar is great, and lots of great energy. I was 5 when this song came out, wish there was was still music like this coming out in 2021
Shane Fontayne on guitar.
Lots of piano, too! So many tunes from the 70's/80's with great piano work.
There is. You're sitting back and whining instead of looking and listening.
What a jewel. Also, that hook.
I was in such a heartbreak back then...this song saved my life and my heart....
Me encanta desde mis 17 años...hoy tengo 61!!!❤❤❤ 👏👏👏 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
No lip-synched canned performance here! I remember the show well, but never saw this performance. Thanks for posting.
Great song. I loved Fridays excellent times
Yeah Steve ! I think I’m gonna get tickets to see you near me soon
Great song, always loved it
Glad I read Steve's book "Folk Rock Cat". I wouldn't have known about tv performances like this one. Cheers!
Such great memories!
Awesome. Forgot about this song.
Wow!!! - greetings from Amsterdam
Fridays had great music every week.
This Friday's comedy tv show was from 1980 to 1982.

ditto
I hope you do see him - he's lovely, brilliant. Make the effort, please! You will not regret it! Xx
Is that a Hammond I hear (see) pinning everything down so beautifully?
This is such a cute guy! This song reminds me of my husband!

I have to say thanks to Sirius Bridge for discovering this amazing song.
Me too I had no idea this song was this old I'd never heard it until the 2000s on sirius

Such a good song.
Lots of fun one hit wonders like this one in '79 also Pilot Of The Airwaves by Charlie Dore.
Red is DEFINITELY your color!!! Mmmm-mmmm
Good!!
(Like Campbell's soup, but BETTER!) LOL
Love 💕 💕💕💕
Such a cutie
That looks like a young Shayne Fontayne on that lead guitar.
Who played with Springsteen later...in 1992-1993
❤️
This song reminds me of Hearts by Marty Balin from 1981
I like the faster for tv tempo.
and what kind of drugs is the guy in the white shoes on that cause him to leap about like that? FUCK!
Lmao that lead dancing like🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love it
Hugh McDonald - David Bromberg Band / Bon Jovi on bass.
Note cool f-hole guitar in stand in background. ES 335 like Bonnie Raitt??
like it! alot!
I grew up on Steve Forbert. Most people have long forgotten him. I love this you tube; any album I have, I can still hear.
Molly Bell saw him live last week. still the amazing (and personable) man he always was.
#SteveForbert was #CyndiLauper's boyfriend in the "Girls Just Wanna Fun" video
Great studio tune. Live version seemed very rushed. Producers probably forced the rush job.

No it wasnt but thats a really interesting idea. thanks
I like the slightly faster tempo. I don't think it was too fast. It communicates a greater sense of energy!

not his best performance of this song, but it passes.
Nothing against this video; but I don't like live performances when they totally change the song into something totally different.
Song wasn’t changed. It was just rushed.
Michael Keaton is going to play Steve in an upcoming biography.................. sorrry, or is it Steve is going to..............?
pity the lead was too busy irish dancing and forgot to play a good solo!
LOL!

@@TM-dh8um I think the solo was fine, always tasteful to underplay. I think the moves indicate he drinks Capt. Morgan
