Toni Lindgren and I were stranded for 10 days in Roswell, NM when our van broke down there (it ended up being a computer module problem, and it's all fixed up now!), so needless to say, we had plenty of free time on our hands to explore the town a bit. That inspired this quirky little tune about the 1947 UFO incident. We didn't see any actual UFOs while we were there, but there was plenty of alien kitsch all over the town which I found delightful. Hope you enjoy "Roswell"! Lyrics below.

Roswell lyrics:
Back in '47
in the first week of July
there was lightning in the desert
and explosions in the sky
An unknown flying object
came crashing to the earth
and a cattleman named Brazel
found the wreckage in the dirt
He gathered up some scraps
and then he brought them into town
and the people gazed in wonder
at the marvel he had found
They called the county sheriff
and they called the air force base
they called the DOD
and then they called the CIA
There's big news today out in Roswell
that sleepy New Mexico town
and Major Marcel
what can you tell us about Roswell?
Well the Roswell Army Airfield
sent their finest personnel
a rank and file officer
was young Major Marcel
The major told his story
and it echoed round the globe
a flying saucer captured
out in old New Mexico
But the orders came from Washington
materials were changed
the town was hushed to silence
and Mac Brazel was detained
They scooped up all the evidence
and flew it to Fort Worth
staged a couple photos
and the headlines were reversed
There's nothing to see here in Roswell
just a torn up old weather balloon
and Major Marcel
was mistaken as well about Roswell
The years pass on in Roswell
but the story still persists
rumors turn to theories
and then theories turn to myth
But to his dying day
the major swore on all he had
"There's no way in hell the thing that fell
was made by human hands"
So the mystery lives on out in Roswell
that creepy New Mexico town
and Major Marcel
what couldn't you tell us about Roswell?

Awesome! I wish you guys could come to Indy. ❤️
Looking forward to seeing you in Dublin 💚 and you've GOT to sing the Roswell song !!! Love it!!! I 👏👏👏the musical synchronicity you two have is nothing short of supernatural 😁
WOW I will always think of Roswell differently after this catchy tune.
Might have to pass thru and actually stop. Thanks
That was a great ending 😄
Maybe they want autograms and an exclusive private concert.
I grew up in New Mexico. Great song and thanks for the tip of the hat to my home state. Roswell is a hot dry place even in the Land of Enchantment. Glad you enjoyed your stay 😎
Everything about this song was perfect. The structure, the changes, the voices, the guitars, the poetry, the message…
Two very talented women. Van troubles in a Roswell, stuck for 10 days......end up writing, arranging and performing a great, brand new song about the UFO events in Roswell. Amazing
Oh my gosh - this is kinda surreal.. Major Marcel was my grandfather...I love this :) Great Job!!!
Was what they said about your GF Major Marcel true? I saw a Major stand up and say “I never knew that!” In regards to your GF - He served at at an iconic time. It is a lyrical delight, this song. ❤ it was always confounding, how it was remembered. You have a GF to be proud of.
So cool! Give us some anecdotes- did grandpa talk about it?
We need anecdotes!! 😭😭
Hi Denice! Your grandfather was my great great Uncle.
My great grandmother Laurentine Marcel Bergeron was his sister. We use to live in Houma on Bayou Blue a few miles from where he lived.
My best friend lived on his street & I remember visiting him. He passed a few weeks after we moved to TN. I’m currently rereading your dads book- The Roswell Legacy.
This feels like a lost Johnny Cash classic. I can almost hear him thundering out "There's no way in hell that thing that fell was made by human hands!"
That’s true musicianship: Being marooned somewhere and instantly writing a song about it. And it turned so great with the tempo changes and Toni‘s solo. The end gave me a flashback to your space stream concert a while ago. Hope the aliens don‘t keep you for themselves 👽
Yah, Toni’s solo on this song is an instant classic.
This is my favorite song from Elle and Toni, hands down. Toni shreds on the guitar and Elle's tone is immaculate...and the music is fantastic!
So talented!
I like how every time I come to UA-cam it shows me this video. Like it's saying "Go on, watch it again, you know you want to". And it's not wrong.
It serves it up to me all the time too, I'm loving it haha
It knows us better than we know ourselves sometimes.
completely the same here. And I do watch it every time again. It's a catchy tune and nice lyrics, so why not.
100% convinced this will be a folk standard in 75 years
I love everything about this song, the music, the tempo, the lyrics. But the surprise ending had me literally laughing out loud. Thank both of you for sharing your gifts
we will ever get another video? cliffhanger
+1 to that
same... legit Laugh Out Loud! Thank you!
Man, that surfer guitar tone is otherworldly.
What a HOOT !!! You two turn lemons into Lemonchelle in a heartbeat !!!
In years to come, Reina will start saying "Back in 2022 ...", and the crowd will cheer, because they know what's coming next.
Love this!
Watching Toni play is a master class in accompaniment, tone selection and nailing it in one take. Love it... gives me something to reach for.
This will be your "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" song that tells a great story for years to come. Loved it.
Underrated is Reina laying down that bass line on the acoustic. Very nicely done.
This song will be listened to 50 years from now, calling it.
Reina and Toni undoubtedly two of the best things to happen to real music in a very long time. Love this 💕💕💕
I don’t know what blows me away more - the brilliant lyrics or Toni’s mad guitar skills!
B y the way, you sound like a whole band. Some good guitar playing there from both of you!
Easily the best song about Roswell NM I have ever heard. EVER.
That right there is a great piece of writing and composing.
Great!!! Toni's guitar work - Excellent!! This song made my Sunday - Thanks!!!
Exemplary wasn't it? We're watching the transformation of these performers into musical legends I think. It's like strolling in to find Dylan at the Gaslight Cafe.
How to bang out a tune ... a masterclass
Again Toni empresses with her voice and makes you realize she not just a guitar picker! The harmony between the two is beautiful! Love the ending!
WOW! With the way the lyrics are framed, the vibes of the chorus, Reina's rhythm guitar and singing, and Toni's "Out of this world" guitar work, this was just stellar. Every time I think you two can't get better...
It almost feels like the universe did everything in its power to have you two write and perform this song. The lyrics, the instrumentals, the way the video is perfectly framed; absolutely amazing. Hope you officially release this song soon!
The van seems quite new ; any chance of a relationship between its breaking down and an Alien's incidence ? Sometimes cars' engines get stuck because of electric or electronic mysterious diseases, at a time when some U.F.O. has been observed...I heard cases where the garage man couldn't find anything wrong or any reason why the engine stopped...If that is, good to know they have a good musical taste. You've summarised very well what I've heard from serious reports about this story. Well done girls. Congratulations !
This is my last comment on this song, I promise. Growing up in Roswell in the 40's and 50's music was owned by such greats as Hank Williams, Gene Autrey, The Sons of the
Pioneers, Tex Ridder, Johnny Cash, and Eddie Arnold. Toni captured that culture with her guitar playing. The lyrics captured the story. It would be wrong for me to say this is your best writing, but it is my favorite of your songs. Roswell is part of who I am and this song captured my heart.
Loved Toni's spooky alien guitar runs! Brilliant, simply brilliant!
I'm a 68-year-old guitar-playing grandmother in Tennessee, and I just LOVE your videos! This new song is amazing. You girls are amazing (and that Josh guy you play with sometimes ain't too shabby either). Keep it up! What a great treat on this cloudy Sunday on the plateau.
Love when you switch to the waltz beat. Seamless. Sounds like this song is from '47.
Roswell is my home town! This is awesome.
"I believe" that was U.ndeniably F.ine O.rchestration!! Loved every note!
So cool. What a wonderful gift you've just given to the city of Roswell. You took the time to learn the history and put it to music - they'll be cherishing this in New Mexico for decades!! Great job...
Yes! and the song has such a great southwestern flair!
@@nankerphelge3771,
"... southwestern flair!"
Yes. Toni can put the right seasoning on any dish Reina serves. [ 0:48 ] [ 2:59 ]
I hope you put this in your next album as its gifted song writing and Toni's guitar bridges are just plain magical.
THIS SONG is what Americana folk is ALL about! Y’all encapsulate a classic local event Turned legendary into an enchanting few stanzas which make it memorable in an adrenaline dancing way. I can’t even add to the great comments already made, but this is another of my favorites from the legend in their own life, Reina del acid!Great job!
I’m dancing 💃
My goodness, am I glad you broke down in Roswell and wrote this song! An instant classic. Lyrics, vocals and guitar playing is just ridiculous.
Wow!!! Reina and Toni. Great song about Roswell! The tune, beats and harmonies fantastic! You sure made the best of a challenging van-repair situation!!💕😃🙏🏼📚
You're accomplished beyond your years. It's been a gift to witness.
Wow, so much talent on display.....thank you ladies for that smile inducing story.
Holy crap!!! Reina and Tony, you are both pure gold :) I instantly love this song. Fantastic melody twist (line) in " There's big news today out in Roswell.... just a torn-up old weather balloon..."(E-minor to C-major and following G-major...so simple and super cool progression!! I believe this is probably one of the best songs written after the split of the Beatles and the death of John Lennon. Thank you for sharing your art!!! Have a nice day and wish you all the best :)
Great composition. Toni has become one of my favorite guitarists. She has a knack for knowing how to do the right thing at the right time.
Reminds me alot of George Harrison or Mike Campbell!!!! Always playing the right notes at the right time to enhance the Song!!! She has become one of my favorites as well!
I am left speechless every time I see Toni's magnificent guitar skills. Nice job guys it's beautiful
Good to see that no gimmicks talent still has a place in the world - along with genuine and nice people. Top song - top lyrics and top guitar.
Toni's guitar playing is so great. Great song.
My granddaughter (10) and I agree that this was one of the best Sunday morning songs.
I loved everything about this song. Great writing, singing and musicianship.
Your van breaking down was well worth that fabulous song.
All the story in a song! Famous!. And guitar begin like Perkins style, and after like Chet Atkins! I love it🤠Hi from Belgium.
👽Marcel didn't lie
We need to get you ladies stuck in some more towns in the middle of nowhere if this is what happens. Good job ladies hope you have a great trip.
This one is going to take flight...no doubt about it.
Your collaborative talents are amazing. Hang on and enjoy the ride...
What a gem. I'm hearing this song over and over again since last week and it makes me smile... Thank you so much and greetings from Germany!
The fact that I grew up in a town approx 100 miles from Roswell has absolutely no influence on my appreciation of this spectacular song. I cannot recommend this song enough. Everything perfect from the initial minor (semi-mysterious) melody to the change in flavor of the chorus with a slightly Mexican sound which is so familiar to my ears. Throw in the superb harmonies and musicianship and you have an instant winner. Bravo!!!
I enjoyed this a lot! Your songwriting skills are insane to me but also push me to write more myself, so thank you for that 😅
See you in cologne, I actually can't wait 😊
Very well done ladies, i kept expecting to see Carson, dressed as an alien, walk by in the background.
😂😂would've loved that!
Filk music was really popular back in the 70's. Glad you're giving it a comeback
50’s 60’s western style songs like this are so fucking good. Definitely one of my new favorites
Also y’all gunna drop a tab soon?
I absolutely LOVE this song! It's as though those words were just waiting to be written and put to music by you two.
I love it! Great sound and witty lyrics. Been to Roswell...can’t believe you spent 10 days there. 😊 Thank you for the Sunday morning music and safe travel!
Ha ha! That was excellent. The era and style of the music was perfect. They should be playing it in their cafes.
A real master class in electric guitar playing, as another said. I am retired in Tennessee, also a guitar player, would love to jam with her sometimes.
Seriously? Does the creative mind ever stop? That was an awesome song. Thanks for entertaining us!
Love it. That unplanned stop was clearly meant to be. Awesome tune.
One of the BEST original songs evvvver!! Needs to be on your next album. Love love love this....very catchy!! Keep at it RDC 🎧🎤🎸
Apart from the stunning theme, this is an amazing musical turning point for Elle’s writing. Love the beat changes with theme changes. Wow.
What a great song and Toni’s solo at 3:00 is incredible!
Heck yeah! What a beast that was awesome
This needs to get up voted for the shortcut! The whole song is amazing of course but mmm that solo!!! Wanna loop em both!
Dear Reina and Toni,
this is one of the finest songs I ever heard from you. Thank you so much for sharing, this is really really wonderful!
Greetings from the bottom of my heart… Ernie
A hit for sure, having been traped for 5 days in Roswell myself I feel your joy, I see you took in the International UFO Museum and Research Center and hear the information retained within your awesome song, hope you didn't miss the Stellar coffee shop, definitely the highlight of my trip. Intending to return for one of their 4th of July parades, I truly enjoyed the way the people of Roswell played along with all the history, and did I mention I loved your new song.
what a folksy, light-hearted, intriguing, creepy masterpiece of a song. bravo!
Ten days in Roswell waiting for parts I imagine. Hope you had some New Mexican green chili while you were there. Love the song!
What can I say ? This song is THE wonder itself. Speechless me.
This is so great you guys. Side of the road setup, a couple guitars and a couple vocals. A brand new tune. And it came out FANTASTIC.
Being a guitarist I especially like Toni's phrases and man, that surfy tone!
I woke up this morning thinking how it used to always make my day to have a fresh Reina & Toni Sunday-Morning video. And here it pops up batter than ever! Thanks for the great Sunday!
Always a pleasure! Thanks so much as always.
That's a cracking song. Sold on the first listen! That style for that subject - really cool
Lyrical genius. Bravo!
This is an amazing folk song. It tells the whole story. The instrumental work is outstanding snd and the lyrics are great fun... sung beautifully as always. Thank you.
What a fun ride! I love the "Legend of..." feel to the song, and the super-tasty guitar runs and sweet harmonies. Always a pleasure, happy Sunday!
I woke up in THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT singing, "There's big news today out in Roswell..." Hahahahahahaha!!! Is that what you call a hook? It will be my new, "Ah, Houston, we've had a problem," comment.
I love it!!! Great lyrics, a 50s feel, Toni's playing is on fire as well!!
Instead of being bitter at you "imprisonment" in the desert, you really make the best of your time by writing an playing this song! Well done!!!! DD
Amazing song! How did you come up with such a great piece of music in such a short period of time? Wow!🛸
So grateful I got to hear this live in Belfast. Keep on rockin soul sisters 💛
Talent oozes from you two ladies. Rock on girls!😮
You guys must be having the time of your lives. Love this song. Hope it makes it to an album!!
Love this! The tempo changes are great! ET was definitely phoning home… to buy tickets to your next show! 👽🛸
You ladies should breakdown more often! That was freakin’ AWESOME! 🤩❤️❤️❤️
Great- great song!!! 👍 I love the UFO at the end! 😜
That was great. I liked the change in tempos as the song went along. Thanks and nice ending too.
It's interesting to me that such sophistication can be put into something that is rendered so playfully. 8)
Best musical act on UA-cam. Hands down. Thanks for sharing.
That's my home town! Love the song. Best ever about Roswell. I'm just sad I'm finding it two years late. You two are fantastic by the way.
Toni’s playing is awesome!
Great ending.. Great song. Love the riffs Toni.
This song is a hit !! Really loved this.. Amazing talent you both have !! Originals Rock !!
Oh !!! That was awesome! Totally loved it!!! A+++
You are incredibly talented... both of you... I am just in awe at the vibration that comes out of Toni's guitar, and I am mesmerized by how easy Reina makes it look to be pitch perfect... this is not about aliens... it is a magic act.
You two ladies are the best! I hope there’s a big enough clamouring from Australia to persuade you to come here in the foreseeable future. Thanks for your beautiful covers, your originals and your huge talent.
There’s nothing I don’t like about this! It’s perfect. Thank you Reina and Toni!! ❤️❤️
Outstanding on so many levels. The musical arrangement is first class, vocals are very good and you told the story of the incident at Roswell without omitting any key details. Toni’s country style lead riff & chord changes are as good as any top guitarist (I’d really like to see a lesson video,
Brilliant! We will be there very soon for the 75th Anniversary Celebration. Great song with excellent lyrics.
